Radio or Bad Phone? - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My phone freezes up alot and I happened after I got the OTA, I've tried factory reset, rooted my phone and flashed a different rom and then did more wipes and stll no answer, so today I will try to flash the old radio. I was just wondering if a radio can cause that problem?
Can't get a new phone from verizon since I am a new customer and brought this phone off of someone else in order to save my upgrade

Yes a radio can cause that, the original radio caused a lot of reboots for most people. Try a few radios out to see if they work

The only radio I know is the mr2 and the new ota one. What other is there. I'm still getting freezes but much less

I have links to two radio listings in my Q&A thread linked in my sig. It's in the radio section. Anything 1.70 or higher will work, but the 2.10 and higher are generally the best.

Can I DOWNGRADE my radio?

I need to downgrade my radio from v1.48.00.00 to v1.41.00.10. Is it possible to do this, or is downgrading out of the question. The reason I want to is because I got MUCH better performance out of the older version than the new one.
FYI:
ROM: Black Satin Normal WM6
Current Radio: 1.48.00.00
Protocol Version: 32.81.7070.20H
SPL: Olipro v2.10
I did some searches of the forum, but couldn't find anything relevant, and MR VANX's site doesn't seem to have anything specifically with regards to downgrading only the radio of the PPC.
I'd appreciate any quick responses you all can provide. Thanks!
Can I DOWNGRADE my Radio
The short answer "YES"............
The long answer........ "READ"......... "READ"........"READ".........
Although this has become much easier and SAFER thanks to many wonderful and intelligent people on these boards, IT IS NOT something that you should undertake if YOU DON'T KNOW the answer to your own question.........
A BIG HINT.......take a look at MrVanx's guides......the wiki...... and the "radio only".......upgrade forums, guides, etc......
The Answers are OUT THERE.....................all you have to do IS FIND THEM!!!!!!
I've flashed a lot of ROMS......I'm no techie by any stretch of the imagination, however I ALWAYS....read, check, double check & check again. to ensure I have a pretty good understanding of what to expect, what to do if something goes wrong.....etc.....
Not flaming you......but I am strongly encouraging you to get the wisdom, BEFORE you jump of the CLIFF.................grasshopper!!!!!!!!!
Good Luck,
vpu2....OUT!!!!

Yes , you can downgrade your radio rom like a normal upgrade.
Ciao

What didn't you like about the 1.48 rom? I went from the official cingular radio to 1.48 and I notice better reception and TERRIBLE battery life. I seem to get about half the battery life that I did pre 1.48. I have the same apps that I have had with both radios.

So I can just run the updater for the v1.41.00.10 radio version and downgrade that way without worrying about it catastrophically killing my phone?
Oh, and I want to go back to the older version because I found that I would get signal drops where I previously had signal and could make calls. I would also more frequently get the signal tower and ! mark, and not be able to make calls at all. I also noticed power draining MUCH faster than before. I thought that might be caused by the new Satin ROM I was using, but I'm glad to find out it might be caused by the radio upgrade.
So is it just a normal downgrade by running the updater executable?

But becareful of HTC_Bootloader, since from 1.38 to 1.48 are still 0108
so it's free to up or downgrade.
Once it has been changed, then we might not be able to do that again.
Pls correct me if I am wrong.

Yeah it would be nice to find out definitively, since I'm sure none of us want to see that 'GSM not found' or some such error...
Can anyone answer with any sort of confidence (even just confirming imdantes's post above would be good).
Thanks!
Of course if you like.
The bootloader can't be downgraded as of now.
I'm an unfortunate victim of this little issue.. my X01HT extended ROM had a radio version of 1.14 listed, but some bogus bootloader version much higher than anything released currently.
Now I'm stuck with an inferior radio version and can do nothing about it due to the bootloader that I can't downgrade.

This is the thread I got most of this information from, pretty logical.

If you have SPL 2.1o Olipro then you are relatively safe in undertaking this task. I have downgraded from 1.48 to 1.47.10 when i was trying to solve some problems.
You really need to read this: http://www.mrvanx.org/cms/

Exact same thing here. Which is why I tried 1.50 (a LOT better battery life and voice quality, pretty much the same reception though).

I also experienced 1.48 drains much more power than other version of radio.
(almost 50% more)
Since Radio 1.50 is still 0108, I might give it a try!

Can you downgrade from radio 1.50 to 1.48?

Will this cause any problems?
I flashed my hermes 300 many times to both versions without any problems.
Yes, Radio downgrades are quite common around here. I just did mine from 1.50 back to 1.47.
Galaxys, can I ask why you downgraded? I see you use T-Mobile as do I.
May I have the link to the 1.47 radio?

For some reason the radio 1.50 drained my battery real fast when using edge gprs. It did have good reception in my area. But, 1.47 gave me both good battery and reception. I might try 1.50 again the next time I upgrade my OS rom to see if this still happens.

I just upgraded mine yesterday, and I seem to be doing good on battery and call reception...but we'll see.
1.50 drained my battery as well. Though even when I downgraded to 1.48, I still had the problem. Ended up re-flashing HTC WM6 from scratch.

Not sure of U'r carrier or location.? But, it seems like the radio sometimes does not in sync with the OS. Did U happen to hard reset before reflashing the OS rom? Before my next flash (which will be any day now), I'm going to reflash 1.50 first. Then see if there is a battery drain! Stay tuned...

[Q] Where to download legit MR1 radio (link please)? MR1 vs MR2 vs MR2.5

Hi, Im BHBMASTER (thats my real name, ill show u my drivers license if u dont believe) were on DRUGS and AIDS when they concieved me. Sorry for the lame humor.
Okay guys im not new to all this stuff, but im trying to figure what radio to download I know some roms only work with MR1 and some with MR2 or MR2.5...
MY question is Where do I download the MR1 Radio that will work with all the MR1 Roms (Especially the CyanogenMod 7.1.0 new release one)
Oh and will I brick my phone goign from MR2 to MR1?
And my second question is what is the best radio with best results, least problems(switching from 2G to 3G to 4G, etc), etc.. so overall best one for lets say CyanogenMod 7 Rom (I know this one now works with MR1 and MR2 and MR2.5), Stock Rom
(MR1 only i do believe), and BAMF Sense 3.0 (MR2 and MR 2.5)
Who ever answers this the best gets a free imaginary hooker oh and did i mention nonexistent. oh and a Fake imaginary cookie too.
Thanks a mil

To sum it up, MR1 is for froyo and MR2 and 2.5 are for gingerbread. I found MR2 to work best for me. Your experience will likely vary. You shouldn't worry too much about bricking from flashing radios I don't think it is very easy to mess it up if you follow the instructions.

I've gone back and forth between MR2 and 2.5 and I haven't noticed much of a difference between the two. 2.5 seems to have better battery life, but takes longer to charge. Just my experience though, ymmv.

thanks guys i appreciate ur quick responses. Adrynalyns radio thread has all the answers you need on.. 7 lte and. 6 cdma radio combinations. Different radio combinations worked better. It was trial and error. The main problem was that. 6 lte and. 6 cdma didn't do well with picking up eHPRD. Which is responsible for switching your network from 3g to 4g. I had better luck with a. 7 cdma and a. 6 Lte radio combination. The numbers represent the end digit in the radio version. I'm pretty sure most people started out on both. 6. Then went to. 7 when it was leaked.
402w_1 is the latest froyo radio. Not sure if its the greatest. you're best bet is to try a few combos out and see which works best for you.
Just make sure to check the MD5 sums, make a backup, and have plenty of battery before flashing anything

Finally a good answer on the MR1 radios... what about if i download the top radio from this link (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1045081) looks like both cdma and lte are .7...... u say u had good luck with both .6 and better luck with cdma .7 and lte .6..... BUT have u tried both .7 and how did that work out for u?
I hate to ask a stupid question but i need to get 10 post so I can actually post in the correct spot a problem i'm having so forgive me. So here it goes.
But what does MR stand for in the new radios?
MR = Manufacturers Release
i have a question about radios, I flased MR2 and now I have no signal, I am in airplkane mode and it will not come out of airplane mode, I then tried MR2.5 and the same thing...should I go back to MR1 or am i S.O.L now?

[Q] Change radios

I'm pretty new to HTC phones, is there a way to change just the radio file?
On my Galaxy S it was extremely easy to flash a lot of different radio files to the phone and do some data testing with them to see which one works the best in different areas.
I've been getting really crappy data speeds since we got the OTA update a week or so ago. I like most of the stuff in the OTA, I just want to flash back to the prior radio.
Is this something that's possible?

With S-On we can't flash radios, except the OTA , but I think Con pulled the radio files and made them flashable in his Stock rom OTA thread for people that were having main ver issues and couldn't flash the OTA.
So, I think if you changed your main ver back using the main ver fix you could flash the original RUU prior to the OTA , then flash the Con rom with the updated radios pulled out . So then you would have original radios with the rest of the OTA updates. Sorry if this is confusing, trying to explain the best I can.

No, I'm pretty sure I understand what you're saying. Edit my mainver back to 1.0.0 then RUU back to how it was stock/new. Then flash Con's ROM that includes the OTA updates and bug fixes, but his ROM sticks with the older radio file.
I think I'll try that.
I wonder if others are noticing a serious drop off in data speeds as a result of this new radio. I mean even my wifi is a lot slower. My home internet connection is 15Mbps down, and before I could get 14-15M over wifi, now I cant get over 5M, meanwhile my mac and my laptop both still get 15M so I know its not a cable modem or wifi router issue, its an issue only with this phone.

Before the update on 4G I could get 28M down, 14M up on a consistent basis. All different times of the day and different locations around town. Now since the update, its considerably slower. Like 6-12M down and 1-2M up. Night and day difference. What I dont know is, if Verizon is doing this on purpose or if it's just a flaw in the new radio.
Also, like I said above, my wifi performance has been basically cut into third of what it was. Which is ridiculous.

Newer Leaked ROM Radio

There was a radio in the newer leaked ICS ROM with a slightly different ID. The threads are not specific enough to determine if the radio image alone is actually different from the earlier one, and if so, are there any improvements (or problems) associated with it?
Have been thinking of flashing it, but don't want to di it if no benefit.
The radio is the same. It has exactly the same md5 checksum, and the same version #.
yeah my signal since the first ICS leak is terrible i get edge only in my house now its terrible. and now hearing that the "new" radio isnt any different im all like....

I am curious to know whether the bootloader would flash a RUU that contains the same release number (probably it looks for the build number) as the one already installed on the device. I don't think it would flash older versions, though.
