[Q] Galaxy S2 ATT, which CF-Root? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Good Day!
I just picked up a shiney new Galaxy S II from ATT (from my iPhone 4). I've had various Android tablets, and rooted many droid phones (including the Vibrant I had a week).
However I'm unsure which CF-root to use with this baby, and I don't want to brick it.
Under Settings, About Phone this is what is listed.
Android Version
2.3.4
Baseband
I777UCKH7
Kernel Version
2.6.35.7
My understanding is the CF-Root I need would use KH7, but I haven't found one (at least in the CF-Root thread, but its 200+ pages long!)
Any information would rock my world and save quite a bit of time for me!
Thank you!

Hey there
XDA created a new forum for AT&T SGS2 located here http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1301 I just did a quick check and see a few rooting threads under development you might want to check out. This forum is for the international galaxy s ii so you most likely won't find the kernel you're looking for to root here since its technically a different model with the soft key buttons and all. I believe Codeworkx created a rooting solution over there
Hope this helps

Thank you, not 5 minutes after I posted this did I find the link to the other forums! rock on xda!

I just got it... can u send me the link?

I have the same problem, do you think you can send me the link to download it?? thanks!

Hi guys...I am a rookie in this items and fell the same problem to install ROMs or Kernel due to our SG2 from AT&T are coming with the 3er edition of the Recovery software that don't permit to open a zip files unsigned we have to downgrade to a 2nd edition using a Cf -Root and have a lot of files.

[Q] Noob - Where to Start

Hiya guys,
I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 that I got this week. Im finding the phone is brilliant to use at the moment and works very well. It's alot better for me to use this device that it was when I had my previous phone which was an iPhone (don't shoot me)...
Anyway here we are. I've had the phone 4 days and i'm wanting to root it. The main reason for this is that I hate bloatwear. Samsung have filled it with all their own specific software that they find useful and I don't want that. All I want is a lovely OS with no Samsung to worry about etc.
Right a little about what i'm wanting. Ok so the phone is a Samsung Galaxy S2 GT-I9100. The andoid version is 2.3.4, the Baseband is I9100XXKI1 and the Build is GINGERBREAD.
Im basically wanting to install the exact same version of Gingerbread but without all the bloatwear. Is this possible? Im completely new to this so any guides and tutorials that you can point me to would be brilliant. Is there anything I should be wary of when rooting my phone etc.
I have been looking around on the net and from what I can see Cyanogen M7 seems to be the same version as what im on now other than you don't get the touchwiz.
Any help would be brilliant on where to start.
If there are any questions then please ask.
Regards,
Just freeze the bloat yourself, rather than trying to find a ROM with it removed.
Root via zergRush, freeze bloat with one of the apps on the market.
However, if you do go down the CM7 route, just follow the instructions on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1176411
Other things to look out for. If any instructions are telling you to make a nandroid backup, do it, and back up your efs folder. You can use Hellcat's kTool for that.
Ok thanks for your post. So i guess my next question is What is Rooting and what does it actually do to your phone?
Do I need to root my phone in order to install new Roms??
Also the link to the M7 *Nightly* release you gave me. Is that stable? I read on their forums that I should only look at installing their *Stable* release and be wary of their *Nightly* release as its still buggy.
Since your first post said you were wanting to root, I kinda thought you'd know why. Bad assumption on my part, I know.
Anyway, before you flood the place with more questions, have a read for a while.
FAQS/Guide/Additional Info For Rooting S2 - High level summary
[FAQ] GT-i9100 Galaxy S II FAQ thread
Also, there is no so called "stable" CM7 build for the Samsung Galaxy S II.
Hi again.
Ok so I've had a read through the links provided to me and Im positive i want to root my device so that i can install new roms and unlock the phone and such. So next then can someone suggest what method i should do next. could someone also tell me what cf-root and clockworkmod is? Im confused as to what these are.
Regards
CF will give you root and clockwork, you can then reboot into clockwork and flash roms. Just make sure you read everything thoroughly and be sure to avoid the repartition option in odin.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
Thanks but could you explain to me what they both do? Im assuming that its better to use cf-root as it allows you to install roms also...
Love spoon feeding eh?

[Q] Custom ROMs, anything to do with root, what should i do?

Hey guys, this is my first post, so correct me if im in the wrong place!
So i've had my Samsung galaxy SII (GT-I9100) for about 3 months now, and i only found out about root probably 1 week ago! haha
So i have rooted my Galaxy with CF-Root, off xwkk2 kernal (link below), on Gingerbread 2.3.6 and i was wondering what i should do with it? I have tried a few custom roms, none of which seem to want to stay working, so do you guys have any good ones i should check out?
Also, i was wondering if anyone can point me towards a list of all root apps, as i am interested in more than just Titanium Backup (AMAZING) and the like.
Oh, and if you guys could tell me both how to "Thank" someone on the forums, and even how to install anything you have suggested, i will love you forever
Thanks a lot guys,
Tangent5
Ps Thank you everyone on this site who has helped me with boot problems, and special thanks to Chainfire!

A google of "android root apps" gives numerous lists.
Without knowing which custom ROMs you've tried, why they didn't work for you and how you use your phone, it's very difficult to recommend you anything.
You rooted thanks to doing your research and reading here, the same method will help you with installation queries etc. Check the links in my sig.
This thread is a good one if you're wanting to freeze/remove 'bloat' from your phone (I recommend freezing rather than uninstalling outright) using Titanium.
thanks a lot guys! deleted loads of bloatware
Oh and i tried the resurrectionv1.0_remix, it was good, but it didnt come with CWM, so i have to unroot then re-root to get everything fixed, as all recovery i tried went mad
So is there any other roms? I've heard DARKYROM is good, but i cant seem to find the best place to dl, and i cant really be bothered if there are some you can recommend
thanks again, sorry but how do i thank you /give your post karma?
No. Many people don't do recommendations for roms/kernels (I don't anyways).
Because everyone's phone is setup differently, everyone uses their phone differently & phones come out of the factory slightly different component-wise. Chances are you wouldn't have the same experience of a rom or kernel than me for those reasons.
Given how easy it is to backup/restore with CWM, I recommend having a look at the threads devoted to different roms in the development forum, usually reading the first page & the last 10/20 will give you a fair guide to the features/pluses/minuses & other users experience with the rom/kernel.
Then try out as many roms as you need to until you find one you like.
Edit to add - Also, this thread is a great source of info for Aus SGS2 users.

have you checked any MIUI roms so far???
you will really enjoy with its themes.....never get borred with the theme..
start with GB MIUI now, all ICS are in beta.....also not mutch themes supported yet.
if you like try this one : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1502664
very stable...
best way to get to know your phone is break it few times lol
this is what i did in 1 - 2 months when i bought my SGS2
flash alot of things > play around with tweaks/mods > soft bricked it twice > settled down onto what i found to be best

In that case be aware that root custom roms or rom counter above zero void warranty .

[Q] Samsung galaxy S II GT-I9100T Stock kernel for Vodafone Australia

Hello everyone, I've just recently switched from iPhone 4S to Android Galaxy S II. My phone info is given below:
Model: GT-I9100T
Android version: 2.3.5
Basband version: I9100TDUKJ1
PDA: I9100TDUKJ1
PHONE: I9100TDUKJ1
CSC: I9100TVAUKJ1
I have already followed the guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399 to root my phone. I used http://download.chainfire.eu/50/CF-Root/SGS2/CF-Root-SGS2_XW_LUX_KJ1-v5.0-CWM5.zip and used Odin to flash it. I'm now having the yellow triangle which I want to get rid of. According to the instruction, it says "(4) Find an original Samsung signed stock kernel (preferably from the same stock firmware you have, but it's not terribly important)" however, the secure kernel link which I found from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1101671 does not seem to be listing any KJ1 version. Can anyone please provide me a link for downloading this? Would it be the one here? http://hotfile.com/dl/144715979/1949050/I9100JPKJ2_I9100OJPKJ1_I9100XXKI4_HOME.tar.7z.html
Thanks in advance.
metalmaze,
Your best bet would be to download the stock firmware from Samsung themselves. Unlike many other companies, Samsung has a database where all (or rather most) of their stock firmwares are stored.
Since I'm unable to post outside links on the forum for now, do a Google search for "SamMobile firmware" and click on the first link. You will have to register in order to download any files from SamMobile, but it is quick and free, definitely worth it.
Hope this solves the issue! Best of luck!

Hey |Shadow|,
I've posted a reply in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=25489604&postcount=6
Thanks a lot for your reply!
Get the KJ1 kernel from here, read the first post very carefully, follow the instructions to the letter & you should have a rooted SGS2 within a few minutes

Hey omar7os, the link you gave me does not have the KJ1 kernel so far I can see? Also, the rooting part isn't the problem, the flashing of the stock kernel to get rid of the yellow exclamation mark, while retaining CWM v5's features enabled is the problem. I believe this is due to not having the proper stock kernel for the KJ1?
try to use this http://www.unlockroot.com/

Hey omar,
You're missing my issue here. My issue is not rooting, that's easy. But I'm trying to get rid of the yellow icon by following the instructions which is not working. So I believe I need the stock kernel for KJ1.

You may have mistaken this site for Samsung Support. It isn't.
Folks on here help out of a sense of community, they don't get paid for it.
The person you just told to feck off is very knowledgeable and answers a heck of a lot of questions nearly every day.
I am on the same T-Mobile UK network as you and have downloaded from here the very ROM you are looking for, although that has been updated since them. I could easily do the same search on here and point you the link, but would you know what to do with the file? Or have you already fully read the Odin flashing instructions on here?
My first time here was with the HTC Compact III, I read for at least a week all the stickies at the top of each section. When I was sure I wanted to flash a rom, I read and re-read the thread and was as well prepared as I could be.
I am deeply indebted to all those developers and the more knowledgeable on here, who turn my phone into something very special. The least I can do is search before I ask, because nearly every question has already been asked.
i know what to do

The BOKE3 was the origonal firmware for the T-Mobile UK SGSII.
BOKF3, BOKG2 and BOKK1 are revised firmwares.
The stock kernels are there if you have rooted your phone with a CF-Root kernel and then reflash with the stock kernel to get rid of the warning triangle at bootup.
The one you are looking for is not a T-Mobile UK ROM, but rather a Samsung Stock ROM for Europe. Flashing that would invalidate the phone's warranty (if you had to take it back to service). That said, that ROM is really old. For newer versions of Samsung stock ROM then look * HERE *
you are good

How do make Galaxy S3 usable? (2019, Latest ROM, rooting, etc - new user)

Hello, this is my first time posting on here.
I have an old Galaxy S3, USA version, T-mobile, SGH-T999. I was wondering how to update it to make it usable? From what I've read online the best way is to root and put in a custom ROM. The problem I'm having is finding the latest ROMs. Is there any way to find the latest official ROMs for the phone? And if I download an unofficial one, how can I know which will run well on my phone? Do I just simply get the latest unofficial ROM?
Lastly, if any one has any step by step guide or video on how to root and install ROMs it would be much appreciated as I've never done something like this before. Sorry if this has been posted before, I'm new to this site and have been having trouble navigating and searching old posts.
Thank you.

I suspect the reason that you haven't gotten any responses in the last day or so is that you are on the wrong part of the Forum! This is the area for the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 9.7" Tablet, not the Galaxy S3 Smartphone.
You might want to take a look over here for the T-Mobile S3.
Hope that helps clear things up
