$25 media hub voucher - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

Just a reminder to those like myself who typically leave the paperwork in the box. There's a $25 media hub voucher good for buying various tv shows on the Samsung Media Hub app, many of which you own forever. It's a free credit and it expires 1/1/2012. Actually the expiration depends on when you activate it. It appears to be 90 days out...
So use that thing!!
[EDIT] Sorry, missed the part about being only for TV shows.

Ha, I just went through the box and found it accidentally.

Mine isn't greyed out. I don't feel like buying any movies, I download everything, newsgroups and verizon fios=epic. So I don't even feel like downloading anything. If I could just figure out how to transfer massive bluray files onto my phone/sd card...that would be awesome.

Movies are not grayed out for me either. I haven't tried buying any, but it does prompt me for a code. Tested on about five using rent and buy.
And yeah, I download all of my movies/TV for free . Fios FTW!
Too bad it expires. It would be nice if I could add it to my account and keep it available in case I'm on the road and missed a show and want to watch it quickly. Oh well, I guess I'll find something to buy in the next few months.
Also, Samsung had a web signup form for people who purchased their devices and want the $25 credit. I wonder if I'll get another one since I signed up.

Totally missed this. Excellent -- I'll hold off on uninstalling Media Hub (for now).

Movies won't be greyed out. The gift card will be and you won't be able to choose it as payment option when purchasing movies.

You have wifi on the road? lol Or can you use this with 3g? I just tried to view a trailer no on wifi and it wouldn't let me. Buncha crap. haha I'll end up buying random movies from there just to use the credit.

Yes, wi-fi is everywhere.
Didn't know about the network restriction requiring wifi only. I was a bit curious why the $25 voucher said, as step 1, to make sure you were on wifi. Probably some deal they brokered with AT&T. Damn them. It makes no sense since the devices already support streaming media. But my earlier comment was more along the lines of being away for business, or vacation, etc. and wanted to catch a show I missed.
One of the reasons I bought this was for the tethering ability (for my Galaxy Tab 8.9). Since it too has Media Hub, and would connect to the GS2 using wifi, I bet that I could download the movie/show on it using the phone's 3G. Might have to test this out later tonight...

With the $25 credit, you can only rent/buy TV shows. You have to be on wifi to download anything. Going to download and watch some shows then remove Media Hub.

I see what you mean now.. at first I thought it was grey out at the movie page.. then it was actually grey out at the purchase page.. only TV shows.. argh.. so hard to spend the $25 then.

Yes sorry i wasnt more clear. You can only use it for tv shows. I downloaded the charlie sheen roast from comedy central and saturday night live since they are all an hour long and the only thing i find worth it.

Great find! Time to UNfreeze media hub lol

Samsung Media Hub

Is there a way to make it work on the gs2? I copied the apk from my infuse but says it can't connect to server, something like that. I got Netflix app working great but now I need this.
Thanks
I even went further then you did. I signed up for a Media Hub account using a Droid Charge at Costco. Then Media Hub on my SGS2 lets me sign-in, store credit cards, and shop but won't let me buy anything. I'm sure it'll be on the U.S. variants so maybe we'll have better luck then.

I found the Media Hub APK on one of the other Samsung XDA forums and installed it. It wouldn't let me do anything. I used the Droid Charge to set up an account. Media Hub on my SGS2 recognized the account I already set up. It still won't let me buy anything though. Samsung Movies from the UK is pretty cool too. It won't let us buy anything because it recognizes the phone's outside the UK. We're orphans.
That worked! Got the right apk and its all good, thanks!

You are able to access previously downloaded media and purchase new? Like some of the others I can browse but can't purchase... I was set up previously on the Charge and Infuse and already have paid for movies that I cannot access on the SGS2.

Consider the deal broken. I think the Samsung servers are reading something off the phone and can tell it's not a valid device. Maybe one of the devs can figure out what data that is and spoof it. If not we're out of luck. Maybe things will change once the U.S. variants start to roll-out and we can install their APK.
Has anyone managed to find a solution for this? It seems odd that the AT&T branded S2 has this built in but those of us using the international S2 are locked out. Has anyone managed to edit the apk?

How does having Sprint or being grandfathered in on a Verizon data plan help anyone with the AT&T SGS2?
Amazon's cloud player is also very nice. Which one is better really comes down to personal preference. They do almost all of the same stuff.

this may have already been stated, but i feel so strongly about it that i'm replying before i finish reading. cloud computing is going to fail because of companies taking away unlimited plans. the main time a person would need to use cloud computing would be while they are mobile, and with tiered data plans, why would you risk it? if you're just a person at home with a prehistoric hdd too small to fit your music, then i can see how it would be useful. i have enough space to store 1000s of mp3s and flacs, and would get more use out of a micro sdhc/sdxc than cloud computing. Apple, Amazon, and Google all need to get together and offer unlimited mobile data, or convince VZW, ATT, and anyone else to revert if they want this to work. even my cable ISP occasionally sends me a postcard about how my account has used above average data, and i should check my wifi security and use anti-virus/anti-malware. i keep reminding them about hd quality streaming, lossless audio (that i paid for), youtube, and the year we are in, then tossing it in the trash. cloud computing is a nice idea, but i wouldn't put money into it. it's going to get to where you have to pay every company for every mb you use if this continues.

Its great for someone who is on wifi and dosent want to carry around 32 gigs of music around on their phone. Its also nice to have a digital copy backed up in the cloud in case your HDD ever decides to crash. To go even further, if you are a flashoholic and like to flash a lot of roms, then having all your music backed up to the cloud can be a nice way to quickly access your music.
It may not be for everyone in every situation, but most places have wifi and this will/has appealed to a lot of people.

i didn't really think of that because we don't have city-wide wi-fi where i live. at my university, you have to be on certain floors of certain buildings for open wi-fi. in West Virginia, we still use horse-drawn carriages.
Used it quite a bit yesterday, songs take 1-3 seconds to buffer and play when they aren't instantly loading and going... I'm a fan, not to mention my coverage is less than stellar.

SlingMobile is awesome

I have used SlingMobile in my last four phones (TouchPro, TouchPro 2, DroidX, Rezound) and the app really kicks major butt in the Rezound using 4g.
I have the newest HD Slingbox and with 4g service the picture is outstanding.
I have two different inputs I can select from, standard cable and an HD cable box. If I use the standard cable input, a viewer at home can be watching a different channel than I am watching but the picture is lower quality.
I even get perfect TV reception while driving down the road in my truck. My Wife watched a movie in HD HBO on demand while we drove on a 3 hour trip last week.

I have never used anywhere near the amount of data that a lot of the posters here use every month.
Last month, I used less than 4 gigs so I would have been fine even on my Wife's 4gig tiered plan.
I don't believe data hogs are what caused tiered data anyway, I attribute it to Verizons greed.

By the way, I have had unlimited data since the first day it was available years ago and I also have the unlimited 4g hot spot so you can KMA with that attitude........

He's using the data on his smartphone with an app he purchased. He's not running a whole home network, which are the people that are abusing the data.
As for the slingbox, I got one last xmas, it died in march, 92 days after I activated it. Contacted sling, they told me they couldn't give me any tech support without either paying 30 bucks up front or adding the extended warranty for 50 bucks. Horrible customer service in my opinion.
I can say, that when it worked, it was great, never had any problems with it. But the fact that it only worked for 3 months is what was bad. If you get it, get the warranty. Just consider it part of the purchase price.
As a side note, with mine (the base model), it took over the dvr, so if someone was watching tv at home, if I changed the channel, they would have it changed as well. Works for me because I work nights.

Something else you can try (I use it for netflix because we dont have tv) is to run an hdmi cable from your comp to your tv and you will be able to watch whatever is running on your comp.
Slingbox has had big problems with defective equipment. It is much easier and cheaper to look up their problems online and and fix it yourself or have a local electronics shop do it for you. There are online instructions to do this. I bought the parts I needed at radio shack and did it myself.

this and their customer service is ATROCIOUS....i dont think they care since Dish or whoever bought them...they wanted 100 bux to fix, after i spent 20 bux on a power adapter that wasnt the problem, and then if it broke after 90 days i was back to 100 again...and this was all 3 days after the warranty i bought expired...seriously...
so i researched and bought a brand new vulkano for 100 bux...works and is simply awesome as sling will not be getting another dollar from me...
just reminded still have to try the mobile app for vulkano...

[APP] HBO GO with HDMI support!

Update: So apparently this has been cracked by HBOTroll1, all thanks to him. You can find his thread here. Unfortunately I have dumped my photon because of Motorola's failed promises. It was a great phone but I will never again by from this company. I also do not have HBO GO anymore because of this issue but I might get it again to try this apk. I am reposting a direct link to the apk here.
This has been confirmed to work on the Photon by others. Also if you have an MHL device to try this on that would be appreciated. I am not sure if MHL is a problem to begin with though...
Disclaimer: To my extremely limited knowledge reposting this does not violate any copyright laws, which is not my intention. My belief is that this is a lack of functionality in the program which has been fixed in this apk. If such is not the case, HBO please contact me so we can discuss this error in your program.

Anywhoo... I tried plugging the photon into my tv as the PS3 does not yet have an app and HBO GO refuses to play video with the HDMI plugged into it. Does anyone know any way to stop the app or the system of realizing that the signal is being sent out?
I would be willing to put in a lot of effort into getting this hack to work but I don't even know where to start. So any advice would rock!
RANT: I know they have a reason for disabling this but for realz I can just torrent their shows so when I'm paying I'm not going to try and rip off their stuff. I mean there's a reason that I'm paying!
RANT EXTENDED: I hate all of this DRM like bullsh!t that makes it more difficult to be a paying customer then a priate. I mean you can just go to isohunt or thepiratebay and search for game of thrones 720p. Then download the playstation media server and install the extra codecs and whatnot they recomend. This will let your computer transcode the video files so that the ps3 can output the video over your network. Wifi N can handle the video great and plug in a hundred foot Ethernet cable for $13 and get beautiful streaming with 5.1 surround sound.

Unfortunately I don't think there is any kind of workaround for this. I remember having the same issue. Think I tried running HBO from browser in Webtop mode but can't remember if it just didn't work or if it worked and the video was bad quality.
Probably better off downloading vid from the net and installing to view locally.
what we need is to get our hands on the earlier version of the app
I've heard people report it USED to work using a combination of the first release of the app and something called Xternal Display (which just mirrors the image on the screen.)

I'm guessing that it check the version number and would want you to update. Though if anyone has an older apk I would love to try this out!
I have version 1.3.1, I just installed version 1.7.1 and installed this version and it still plays fine, haven't tried hdmi out using version 1.3.1 yet. But I'll upload it tomorrow, I'm away from my computer right now
I got it working perfectly

sorry everybody, i thought the thread was dead but here is the hbogo 1.3.1 apk, just fyi it gives out the original error message saying that there is something wrong, not the new one stating the program doesn't allow hdmi out.

Man, I never thought I'd use the TV app...

...but I don't even use my cable remote anymore. It is so damn convenient being able to browse movies and shows on my phone and just tap on what I want to watch. HTC really nailed this function, it works flawlessly for me. The IR blaster is insanely strong, I don't even need to point the phone even remotely at my TV or cable box. It also makes playing with my phone while watching TV perfectly justifiable. Brilliant!

I was surprised at how well it works. Better than universal remotes - some of them can't change the input (i.e., hdmi, TV, etc.). Soo good - hard to believe this isn't getting more attention. This one excellent feature is better than the S4's several gimmicky ones.

Wish there was a way to change TV providers with each remote setup... I stay at my girlfriends house 1-2 nights a week and I have to change from Directv to Time Warner every time. It only takes a minute but it's still annoying.
Awesome functionality/app otherwise! Use it all the time!

I haven't tried multiple remote setups yet. So if you make a second remote profile you can't set it as a different provider from the first?

I haven't tried the GS4's but I agree that the One's should be getting more attention. It is a great feature that actually feels fully fleshed out. They really did a bang up job with it. The only thing I would like them to add is custom buttons and programmable macros. Then it would be perfect.
The ir blaster on the one works better. Seems stronger and better placed.

Loving the blaster, been real fun at peoples houses. Also very practical at home.
Does anyone know if it can control the DVR? I currently have DirecTV.

It can control the DVR on my Comcast box so I'm assuming it'll control the DirecTV one just fine. One thing I just noticed though is that there is no option to record directly from the guide in the app (at least I don't think), which is a feature I think HTC could easily implement.

Yep! Controls my Directv DVR just fine. Just go to your remote and it's one of the pages available on the bottom.
Controls my DirecTV DVR fine as well.

It was so funny. I was turning off TVs and changing the channels. They were freaking out. They even called the cable company and reset the cable boxes. It was so hard to sit there with a straight face and just act like I was playing on my phone. They kept changing it back to the bulls game and I would change it to golf. lol.
