How to revert back to rfs before flashing a new stock Gingerbread ROM ?
You don't need to... If you flash a stock rom through Odin, you'll be automatically reverted back to rfs...

Thanks bro
most onepackage stock rom didnt have data.rfs, so when u coming from already ext4 filesystem rom and flash onepackage stock rom, /data wont be converted to rfs, its still ext4 thus resulting in bootloop.

Right.
For I5500, there's a "downgrade", megaupload.com ID =Y5BA7QG3 (from madteam).
Inside it's just the data.rfs file. You just flash that with odin before flash the lower firm.
Not tested (by me) on ACE, but it works on G5.
I suppose you can just take a full ACE stock rom and delete all files inside onepackage/tar but keep the data.rfs in there and flash that to get the phone back to rfs.

ext4 manager is not working with my galaxy ace. i have coderom nexusace and cf-root b78 kernel. even if i press the convert to ext4, i would see "installation aborted" during the reboot. and once i run ext4 manager, my filesystems are still rfs. please help me. are there any other way? or am i missing something?
EDIT: it now worked. i figured out that i just have to use the ext4 manager that came bundled with cf-root.
off topic
what is you score at quadrant whit that combo ( nexusace+cfroot)?
thanks!
Guys, need your help.
After flashing Coderom V2, used the EXT4 Manager to convert the internal memory to EXT4. And accidently forgot to revert the filesystem to RFS and tried flashing another rom and ODIN gets stuck at the command
<1> system.rfs download
This is the case on trying to flash to any rom with ODIN now. Now the phone is bricked and not able to get into recovery mode. Download mode is still posible though
Need some method / link / help to get the internal memeory back to rfs so it could be flashed and brought back to life.
Thank you

Hey!
You welcome!
For that we are here(to help each other).
CHEERS!
anyone can help me? im using CM&-kang and i wanted to flash back to stock rom. i downloaded the firmware from sammobile.com but what i got is a one package file. is it safe to use it?
here is the file that i downloaded
S5830DXKPD_S5830OLBKPC_S5830DXKPD_HOME.tar.md5
TIA
no, u need to flash full package or u'll get bootloop.
Actually it's okay as long as it's 2.3 to 2.3, the 2.3.3/2.3.4/2.3.5/2.3.7 revisions doesn't matter much.
onepackage or full package does matter tho. onepackage doesnt have data.rfs, so flashing from previous ext4 rom will not make /data partition into rfs filesystem, and because stock kernel doesnt recognize ext4 filesystem, result is bootloop.
but if u insist on installing onepackage on top of ext4 rom, u can try to convert the filesystem to rfs using cfroot app beforehand.
thank you guys! i just flashed it with one package and then wipe it from stock recovery and its good to go...

ahh forgot to mention that earlier, formatting data via cwm will also work because i think it will format data partition to rfs too
Just a simple question here.
This is about planning to go back Stock ROM from a custom ROM.
We all know almost custom ROMs here are ext4 supported. Means flashing a custom ROM from a Stock ROM converts its RFS to EXT4. So If you backed up your stock ROM using CWM and restoring it running a custom ROM you'll get freeze on "Samsung GT-S5830.." boot screen because of "RFS and EXT4" stuff (incompatibility).
Now this is what's confuses me , thus RFS and EXT4 is the only one thing that prevents restoring your stock backup from a custom rom? (And your last option to get stock rom is use ODIN) Means, if you convert your custom ROM to RFS then flash stock backup you'll got all working?! If Yes, anyone have the flashable EXT4 to RFS converter?
Hope you got me here mates! Thanks.
its not because incompability, it because stock kenel doesnt recognize ext4. if ur restored rom includes cfroot kernel, it doesnt matter since cfroot works with default rfs and ext4. once i got messed up upon restore, /system ext4 while /data and cache is rfs, and it boot just fine with cfroot.

if you are looking to flash back a stock ROM from a ROM that has been ported to ext4 file system, you can flash directly using ODIN with no problems.
As quoted from ketut

Obviously you should revert back to rfs before flashing a new stock/modified ROM!

Also from the same guy, this implies that you SHOULD convert back your file system unless you are flashing to stock ROMs mentioned earlier on. Using ext4manager will help you change file system. Get the one that has been modified to work from ketut's CF Root's thread in Android development.
If you are however going from custom to custom, i suggest that you should flash in CWM only if the file systems of both ROMs are the same. Otherwise use ext4manager to make same.

Somehow cleared my mind up! Thanks mate

I have a Nandroid back up of stock rom, i am now using CM 7.1, how do i restore my stock rom? When i just boot into cwm and restore the back up, it just gets stuck at the boot logo. What do i do? Is there a procedure? Please reply asap
Restore doesn't convert you system partitions to rfs (CM have it in ext4, and stock roms doesn't support it). Flash a mulit-package firmware via ODIN, then flash CWM and restore you backup.
If you want to restore stock rom from cwm backupp use these
Cf root kernel
Ext4 manager
Then when cf root is flashed
Use ext4 manager on stoc rom to convert system to ext4
Then when done make backupp
And
Then it works
Sent from my GT-S5830 using xda premium
Some time ago I converted ext42rfs (by Chris41g for the Epic 4g) for the galaxy ace, I never tested it. Install the zip through CWM.
I repeat, I never tested it, so it might not work.
(no backup) It formats everything to rfs (use this if you are going to restore a backup in cwm) : http://mir.cr/JAVTQDRJ
(backup) It backs up everything, formats to rfs and restores the backup (this is if you are on a stock rom and converted to ext4 and want to return to rfs): http://mir.cr/Q2CNG6JD
Report back if it works please.

The dude above you says something else, he says stock rom doesnt support ext4 at all.

Stock rom with stock kernel doesn't , but Stock rom with custom kernel does.
Okay, now i am on CM 7.1 .. I Have to install a Stock rom via Odin, then i dont need all these.

Thats why i said 'cf root kernel'
It supports ext4
Or try in cm7 to convert it to rfs

Now to get CF root kernel, i have to go back to stock rom isnt it?
Was using stock 2.3.3 but flashed 2.3.6 KPP. Played around with a few CM7 roms and decided to go back to stock. Heard had to flash stock first (due to stock not having ext4) so flashed the closest one i could find on samfirmware. Ran the CWM backup and this presents two issues:-
1) Kies says cannot use this device. Is this because it is detecting the baseband from the one file package i flashed?
2) Trying to install from market and it says cannot install to the chosen storage.
Anyone know what might have happened.
(currently on ICS FINAL and loving it but my stepson wants this phone after me so thought would put back on stock when he gets it)
You should've used stock recovery to format all partitions back to rfs
OR
You could flash CF-ROOT and the.problems will be gone

Can you not format back to rfs with CWM recovery?

Like I wrote in that post, I never tested it and if you try it and it works please reply.
New links: (no backup, don't reboot after. Restore your CWM Backup.) http://mir.cr/JAVTQDRJ // (backup) http://mir.cr/Q2CNG6JD
Your /cache still in ext4 and ext4 filesystem not supported by stock kernel. Flash CF-Root and use ext4 Manager to check the whole filesystem type. DXKT7/XWKT7.BLACKHAWK is a near stock firmware, you can try it
Thanks Guy's for the replies. Once filesystem is back to normal and I restore the backup of my stock rom will all be good with kies?
