Possibly silly question but must ask in regards to rooting and roms. - HTC EVO 3D

**Edit, I think I even posted this in the wrong forum :\ Is sprint CDMA? Not sure how to delete and move the post. I am sorry guys**
I have my Evo3d for about 2 months now, and I saw there was temp root stuff at the beginning, but is all that fixed now and is there a permanent one?
What exactly can you get out of root on the Evo3d, I remember rooting my G1 to get things like multitouch and what not, but what is the benefit of rooting a phone with all of that already?
I tried to look through all the different things in the development area for the phones. I have a sprint Evo3d. Can someone point me in the right direction of what I would need to backup all my apps, pics, and other data, and perhaps a nice guide on how to root, as well as some roms to use? I saw there were a ton of different ones, but could not really tell what ones did what, was it all just for different looks? I can not imagine it to be.
I am sorry for asking such a silly question on an advanced user forum but some help would really be appreciate fellas.
Thanks in advanced!

Hi, your right thread was the question&aswer thread. But to all your questions, with root you can install custom roms and custom Kernels! To make a nandroid backup you have to be rooted and you have to install a recovery system! There are two ones, clockwork and revolutionary! Choose one of the two! There are enough threads in cdma developement forum about and how to root your phone!
And you have to choose your favourite rom by your own! Some like the one better and others not! For cdma phones is the cyanogen mod rom available! Try out a rom for some days, if you dont like it ... try another one! And the specials about each rom you have to read the op in each rom-thread!
I hope i helped a little ;-)

Hey man, I appreciate the quick respones, but once I root my phone do I not loose all of my personal data when I do? How can I got about saving everything before I try and go for the root. Also once I pick and mod, ( i have use cyangen on my G1, but my G1 blew so didnt get to use it much) will it not delete everything again if I were to switch to another?

You dont loose anything by rooting! There is a thread called: root your evo 3d without fastboot in cdma section! Ive done that and didnt loose my data! Then you can make a backup from your current rom!
When flashing a new rom you have to wipe everything, data, chache and dalvik chache! But you can restore your data in the recovery! Backup&restore/advanced restore/restore data!
But i dont Don that to have no issues! All my data i need are the phone numbers and they where backed up on google! So i dont need to so advanced restore! On my first android phone are always troubles with restoring! Issues and such things! So i dont so it! I prefer to do always a fresh install!

What exactly can you do with the Evo 3d if its hacked these days? Like I said I knew on my G1 I got multi touch and such, but what kinda things can you do with Evo other then change the look from what i have seen?

These days you can do not so much! Wer all wait for the release of the kernel sources, for overclocking, uv and such things! But with root you can deinstall bloatware which you dont need!
But some nice tweaks are available now (included in custom roms) to make it faster and smoother!
Best regards

[Q] EVO 3D lagging, not as fast and smooth as before.

So I rooted my EVO 3D with unrEVOked, and I noticed some problems, so I went back to 100% complete stock. So after a couple of days, I started getting SMS errors and radio interfearances. Well I got it fixed a while ago, but it also lagged once in a while when I'm typing a message, sometimes scrolling through screens, when I make my phone go to sleep, it like sleeps then wakes up right away, but now it's been like around two weeks, and I've been having a little more lag when I'm typing a message, or making the phone go to sleep, so I have to keep restarting the phone to make it run smooth and fast. I updated the phone already, and idk if its the update or the root that messed up the phone, but if anyone knows HOW this happened, and how I can get rid of this lag, then PLEASE help me out, cause this lag is pissing me off. Thanks.
Root your phone again and get rid of that sprint crap...problem solved..hehe
Sent from my PG86100 using xda premium
But I updated my phone to the latest version. Can I still root it?
U can through HTC but u can't flash very much..just 2.3.4 stuff...do u have s-on or s-off?
Sent from my PG86100 using xda premium
Oh, well then how do I root it again? Cause I mean the lag pisses me off.
Go to htcdev.com and unlock your phone then find the Su zip in the dev section, then flash a recovery either twrp or cwm then u should be good...I'm assuming you have s-on correct?
Sent from my PG86100 using xda premium
Oh alrite then, nd yes I do.
Wait, and another thing, can I still root if I have 2.3.4??
Then yeah follow the directions from HTC then do the rest and flash 2.3.4 roms u won't be able to flash kernels yet but u will soon..should find some good roms from the devs
Sent from my PG86100 using xda premium
As long as u flash the Su zip then you will b rooted and flash a recovery I prefer twrp...go to the development section and there will b a walkthrough
For ya...
Sent from my PG86100 using xda premium
After you flash a recovery like twrp make sure you wipe everything including cache and the complete wipe of the phone before flashing any ROM, I think that's why your experiencing lag because you flashed over the stock ROM when you should of wiped everything before flashing.
Sent from my PG86100 using xda premium
Wait do I get the Su zip and walkthrough? Do I get it here or at HTC?

Well, actually, my phone has nothing of root whatsoever, so its 100% stock.

Well, most people that first come here don't know what they are doing. I think what you meant to say is, if you don't even know where or how to find a guide on rooting and flashing then before attempting anything, there is one thing you should do first. READ!!!! Read the stickies in the dev forum. Read the links in the stickies in the dev forum. Use Google to find as much info on the internet as you can before attempting anything!!! Please, for your own good read as much as you can. We cannot hold your hand through it. You need to be able to do this on your own. Read until you become familiar with the terminology. Then if you still don't understand come back here and ask. If you do that we will understand your questions better and you will understand the answers better. We all started out knowing nothing about this. I read on these forums for 2 years before posting anything. I am by no means a professional, but I do understand how to search for and find the answers to my questions.

Help with my EVO 3D

Hi,
I have been reading this section for sometime and my friend has ask me to fix his phone. He owns an Evo 3D and it has all this Vodafone bloatware all over phone and would like to remove it. All he complains is about how bad that Rom is and of.lags the phone badly. He would most likely like to continue using HTC Sense and is there any generic HTC Rom that is available ?Also the Vodafone logo on bootup on his 3D. Now as far as I know he is running on Android 2.3.4 and the hwboot is 1.49 I think. S-Off is also on so I would like how to turn it off.
Thanks

CleanROM is one of the best Sense based ROMs. Fast and battery lasts a long time.
Well does it matter if I flash a cdma Rom with a gsm EVO 3D?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Yes it matters.
We're comin from a pure power source.
Yes, it matters, because the CDMA ROMs will not work on the GSM phone and could potentially brick the phone, don't even try it.
I'm on Vodafone too, and luckily I didn't get any of the bloatware crap like the start up animation and stuff, thank god. At the moment I'm using virtuous quattro ICS Sense 3.6 ROM and it's working great, smooth, no bugs (from what I can tell) and it's not caused any problems. The only bad thing is the camera and USB storage doesn't work within the ROM at the moment, so to mount your SD card you've gotta have revolutionary CWM 4.0.1.4.
Have fun.
Can you link me to a guide on rooting this phone please?
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium
It depends on what hboot version the phone has. But either way, all the rooting guides are in the stickies in the Development section, just like I said in the second post of this thread.
I got hands on my friends phone and its using a hwboot 1.49.0013. I can't seem to see any threads on rooting and turning s off for this phone. Do I need to downgrade the Hwboot in order to get root and S off?

Root...then what??

Ok so I've had my HTC Amaze 4G for quite sometime. I'm new to the smart phone era. I've had a smart phone since April of 2011. The amaze makes my 3rd phone. I recently discovered rooting and have become very interested in doing this. I've read some how to's and what not. I'm wondering though if anyone has any suggestions as to which to Rom would best suit this device in a rooted state. Im no tech wizard. I'm a quick learner though and follow instructions well, so I Definately would appreciate the help. Please, and thank you.

there isn't any one "best" rom out there, it all depends on your taste man, do you want sense or not? if so which version? are you a benchmark freak? do you want Ice cream sandwich or Gingerbread?
honestly the first thing I do when i root my phone is get setCPU on there, although I've been using system tuner to great effect.
I'd use faux kernel as well, better battery life and overclockable if ya need the extra horsepower, but I noticed it breaks a few things like wifi tethering for me on a few roms (it seems to be only ones built around a non T-mobile base)?
after that its up to you, good luck!
Lol but seriously... Energy ROM is the best
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using Tapatalk 2 Beta-5
I too use NRGZ Energy ROM. Everytime I flash a different ROM I always tend to revert back to Energy.
If the Sense 3.6 ICS ROM by Adjust was fully working i'd rock that. I tested it and that ROM flys! Too bad tho with all the drama that seems to revolve around him.
Ok ok. I've been hearing that the big issue with rooting the amaze is the s-off situation. I read a thread where someone mentioned successfully achieving this feat on an amaze with running an unlocked bootloader. As mentioned before...I'm super new to these terms and this process, so I've been having difficulty locating these instructions. I've been told to have someone do it for me, but I really want to learn these rooting skills for myself. I live that you guys have come up with ways to make our phones just that...OUR phones. Sorry for the noob questions...but I truly appreciate all of your help.
Read the Stickies on how to root. It's actually really easy to root this phone.
1. Unlock your bootloader.
2. Flash a recovery
3. Flash superuser for rooted stock or flash a custom Rom.
Of course there are preliminaries that must be done first. Like having ADB and the HTC USB Drivers.
Chuck Norris CAN touch MC Hammer!
s-off allows the user to flash a different boot.img (custom kernel) as well as different carriers' RUUs, you can still flash a boot.img without s-off but you'd need to use a program like the Easy Kernel Flasher. Regular ROM flashing isn't affected by s-off other than that
and am I the only one who doesn't like NRGZs Rom? I flip between One Good ROM and Stock

It will pretty much do everything for u except flash a custom rom which u do through recovery. And i believe he had to remove all the recoverys so i recommend using this one http://androtransfer.com/xboarder56/HTC Amaze 4g/Recoverys/5.8.0.9/ph85img.zip after u unlock your bootloader, place that file on your external sd card. Turn off your phone, turn it back on holding down the volume down button to boot into bootloader. It will then ask if u want to install update, select yes. U will now have a custom recovery.

Okay there is no 'best Rom' because all Roms are great! (Just saying that because you will get flamed later if I didn't get it out of the way now... ) If your looking for stable the ics Roms are great. It's the sense 4 roms that aren't AS stable. I'd recommend trying some out and picking the one you like.
For the rooting process, its fairly simple as long as you can read directions. BUT DO RESEARCH BEFORE DOING ANYTHING! don't forget to unlock your bootloader too... And finally, If your anything like me, you will end up rooting your phone tomorrow morning.
Hope this helps!

Hello, Jonathan. Rooting is easy. Dont be intimidated by the process. Also, once youre rooted, as long as you dont accept an ota update or go back to stock using an ruu posted on here you wont have to do it again. We dont know if youre cdma or gsm though so we cant help you until then. When we know what carrier youre on we can help you more.
Why do you think you need a dictionary? Your spelling teacher wouldnt be too angry, and you obviously know what the words mean, but your english teacher is shaking their head right now reading this.
Like the previous people said, read! Just go to each thread and read. If you have a question, search for the answer exstensively first. More than likely, youre not the first to ask it.
Good luck, and welcome.

Last I looked, the nonsense ROMs have issues with both 4g and 3d. However, I think that the issues with 4g are about to be cracked by the awesome devs here (if they haven't been already).
I like the two ROMs in my signature. They are Sense based, but everything works. You could also try Devil Toast if you are looking for something that is AOSP.

[Q] Most attractive option for selling an Aria?

I finally upgraded to one of the ginormous phones after fighting it for so long. I just couldn't take the "out of memory" errors anymore on my Aria. So now that I have the HTC One X, I'd like to sell my mint-condition Aria. It's got CWM and CyanogenMod 7.0.3, but like I said, with hardly any apps on it, it's constantly out of memory.
So my question is what should I do with this Aria before I list it on Craigslist?
Official HTC Android 2.2
Fresh CM7
Other?
Plain ol' stock Aria's are selling for $100-$125 here in LA. Should I add a premium price for having it rooted and custom ROM installed?
In my experience, having a rooted phone with a custom ROM had actually lessened interest in phones I've sold. I would go full stock, unrooted, stock recovery also. You never know when someone will want to do a factory reset, and if I understand correctly, this causes problems for rooted phones. The people that know how and are interested in rooting will do it anyway, the rest will be perfectly happy with it in stock form.
Good point. Thanks.

I'd go with rooted 2.3.5 liberty S rom. I'd delete some stock apps and overclocked the core. Then i'd sell it. But that's just me
Stock ROM I would pay less if the Phone's ROM is customed.
I'd just leave it on a stock looking ROM.

Dude... Jealous of your rooted One X!
stock with automatic transmission
My guess is you would have better luck for resale with stock ROM.
I base this on the experience of selling a nearly new car. I have always been a fan of manual transmissions and to this day that's all we have in the garage. About 20 years ago I was assigned overseas and had to sell a nearly new Mazda 626 with a stick. I got few calls, all of whom had overlooked "manual transmission" in the ad and backed out immediately when they realized it. I ended up selling it back to the dealer at a big loss.
Only five percent or so of automobiles on the road today have manuals. I imagine custom ROM users are a similarly small minority.
Even though the experience is better, even though my own technophobe wife loves her Aria running CM7 nightly, a random buyer--who probably will drive up with an automatic--would be more likely to buy with the stock ROM.
PS: By mentioning a car sale 20 years ago, I've probably identified myself as part of an even smaller minority: old people who run with a custom nightly

This is well and good until they decide to factory reset within the ROM for whatever reason. I'm not sure if that is disabled in Liberated FR008 or not, but better safe than sorry IMO.

I can tell you that once I tried to wipe data from the ROM itself (not CWM Recover) and it hosed the phone. I couldn't boot to anything.
This was when I first got my Aria and didn't know much about rooting Android devices.
I would restore Stock and sell it. If the buyer asks about any techie-stuff like "is it rooted?" you could root it, load CWM Recovery, and ask if he'd like a custom ROM on it. You could even ask for a little extra $$ for the effort... Just a thought.
