[Q] Unlock Dell Streak 7 outside USA - Streak 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I am from Sri Lanka. I have received a used Dell Streak 7 from my sis which is locked for T Mobile. I tried to get the unlock code from both Dell and T Mobile but they are asking either the purchase documents or details of a data plan, both my sis does not have as she has stopped using the tablet some time back. Currently the tab is in Sri Lanka.
Can anybody give some clue as to what should I do to get this tab unlocked?
Thanks in advance,
Manjula

You'd have better luck asking this in the Dell Streak 7 forum. This is the Dell Streak 5 forum.
However, if your sister doesn't have the proper information, you'll have to pay someone for an unlock code.

To get an unlock code from dell or t-mobile you have to be/show that you are the legitimate owner. And if not your only option is to buy the code from a reputed seller.
There are some web sites as well as ebay sellers that exclusively offer the s7 unlock code. it range from $30 at ebay to $55-$80 in web sites. Yet success rate is not known. Web sites like look more promising than ebay as usual look more promising (as well as the price) than ebay as usual

Hi,
I bought 4 dell steak 7 from USA & import it to UAE , my problem is that , the phone not work , there isn't any call app in this system , when i put 2 G simcard , the sim card register & receive SMS , but can't make call !
when call to the simcard with other phone , only receive free line & tablet not show any or ring .
Please assist , how can fix it .

Normally I cut noobs some slack on their first post, but this post is just ridiculous. My recommendation is to sell your units, since you clearly don't have a clue what you're doing. After all, you managed to figure out how to quote what I posted, yet not actually read what I posted.

I'd have to agree, for the fact that the S7 CANNOT MAKE CALLS,
it's been asked dozens of times on the S7 forum.
The hardware is (likely) physically incapable of making calls.

the hardware is not likely .. it is physically incapable of making calls because thats the way it is being designed ...
however, there is this bluetooth hardware that allows you to make call using s7 ... i have seen that and even ipad or ipod can also make calls using it...

By make calls I mean cellular calls, the modem is incapable of making the connection.
I'm not talking about voip calls as it can do it natively.
It has a mic and speakers

USA Dell Streak WARNING!!!!

Hi all.
I am currently on the phone with AT&T as my USA beta Streak has quit working!! I am being told that the US Streaks were designed to quit after the evaluation period was over!! I now can not make any calls with it at all except to AT&T!!
Any one else had their Streak IMEI blocked by AT&T??
UPDATE: Over at Modaco they are starting to drop like flies......several posts about it now! It is happening as we speak!!
UPDATE 2: Quote from Dell:
All 1100+ US beta Streak IMEI's are now invalid! They could not (or would not) say if the IMEI's will be good again after the release!
UPDATE 3: Dell states that it was AT&T that did this to us and that the affected units will work again AFTER the official USA release! They could not say when that would be tho.....
that sucks. im glad i didnt do anything rash like buy a streak on ebay or something.
Yeah, mine went down around 10 am. Sucks, I've only had it two days, I guess I'm stuck using my old unlocked G1 again temporarily...
just a heads up guys... found this on engadget!
AT&T blocking Dell Streak beta units?
looks like your out of luck till AT&T sort themselves out.
mine went down an hour ago, im glad i got mine through the beta and did not pay for it
mine is down now too. I was using an Ipad sim card. Will try later with my other ATT sim to see if it works. Let's hope the streak releases soon!
Another reason to hate at&t. I was 100% going to get the dell streak once it came out in the U.S. for tmobile. Fortunately, I had a change of heart when the Galaxy S (Vibrant) was released. Not only has dell announced it will be available only for at&t, but also at&t has delayed its release for ages. Poor dell, should have gone with a different carrier.
so if it's only being blocked on AT&T then if we use it here in Canada it should be good then right? Or is it the actual device that is being remotely nuked?
I'm curious. Couldn't those who are blocked use another SIM card?
I found my answer. International_Mobile_Equipment_Identity is phone specific, not SIM specific.

To put it bluntly... that is 100% illegal. It is the equivalent of changing the VIN of your car.
Pardon my language, but its **** like that, that made me say **** AT&T and move to Sprint.
They're just digging their hole deeper and deeper. It amazes me that Apple renewed their contract for the iPhone. That makes Apple a bigger idiot... besides being too slow to the market with the iPhone4. But I digress.

According to rumors, Apple did not renew with AT&T and we may see a new iPhone come holiday season with the possibility of it being from Tmo. There are HUUUGE articles all over the place right now that there is a possiblity that AT&T is movin to WinPho7/Android in place of iOS devices ... even if you look at their line up and the fact they are to be the first WinPho7 carrier in the US you can tell something is changing at AT&T. This could be for the better .. or the worst but they need to get the ball rolling faster if they want to survive as the #2 carrier with out Apple pulling them through...
ok now that's it's been officially announced... who's putting their sim back in?
I think a few have tried it, and there's mixed results..
I put mine in, and within 2 minutes I got the text. Been using it about an hour now though with full service.
EDIT:
Still works after the night, been about 15 hours now.
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
i put mine in 2 and half hours ago. Still working and no text
Just tried my sim. Got the message in less than a minute.

[Q] Streak's unlock code is not found! Why?

I bought a dell streak AT&T (full price) from BestBuy usa. Then i returned to VietNam. But i can't use my streak because it requires unlock code.
I tried to contact with many code provider, but they said that my unlock code is not found (rebelsimcard - unlockallcellular - dellstreakunlock.)
I called for AT&T and they talked me that " streak's unlock code is not found"
Then i called for Dell Support over 6 times. They gave me a service number and number phone to contact with them after 2 weeks. Now I called for them and my phone went out of minute after a hour for waiting (I spent over 60$ just to call for them althought that is number phone toll free because I live in VietNam)
I tried to contact with Dell support thought email. But It can not be to register by Viet Nam user and live chat service is not supported for Dell Streak
I were very disappointed. they said that can not to find unlock code for me. I'm look like a unlucky guy. because they got some problems with my dell streak. they request me to give my streak back for them to check in 30 days. you know, i live in vietnam and i can't fly to usa just to give streak back for them. it's not fair because i paid full price for that thing.
Now i got pda streak without phone. I don't know what I have to do with it. I took much time for it, but i got nothing. It's not fair. It is not my fault!
That's all my situation. Who can help me?
Thanks for reading !
Good luck to all you !
how about mailing your dell streak back to the us?
or you could get a rebelsim or go to dellstreakunlock.com
I would imagine that Dell wouldn't normally have permission to give out unlock codes since they are carrier locked. Usually the carrier provides the unlock code. If AT&T says they can't find your unlock code, but it is locked to them, I think they may be making a mistake.
Keep calling them and ask them for the unlock code. You could also call the BestBuy you purchased it from to ask them for assistance -- my opinion is that BestBuy has a lot of experience with dealing with AT&T, but that all depends on how nice the person you get is.
If you decide to call AT&T yourself, just prose the question: "How come the phone is locked to AT&T and yet AT&T doesn't have the unlock code?"
Sounds like a ridiculous situation to me because they can say they can't give it to you, but really doesn't make sense they don't have it. Try asking for their manager.

You can easily unlock it. The first thing you need to do is to determine whether your phone can be unlocked or not. There is software to do that. It tells you whether your Streak is "unlockable". If yes, unlock it with that same software. You can download it for free. The download site is:
http://www.unlockstreak.com/pages/download-dell-streak-unlock-software
at&t will make a case and you should get the code via email in a few days just call them back thats how i got mine was very simple and good luck!

HTC Flyer (Singapore)

Hey guys
I just came back from the Launch of HTC flyer in singapore & found out some of these information. Not sure if it has been said before.
1) Flyer is not capable of making voice calls, only video calls via skype (& voice call via skype)
2) Flyer will be receiving an update of honeycomb
3) Flyer will be on sale in Singapore (3G + wifi) for a retail price of SG$1068.
-They say it will be cheaper when it's on sale
4) If im not wrong it's a 32GB model

Hmm, yeah these are the crucial information. Now my question is.. can we somehow make a custom rom to perhaps port phone.apk from desire S to HTC flyer? It's such a waste that this phone can't make phone calls.
I asked the representatives why and they told me it's cos they don't want consumer to feel irritated having to charge both the phone & the bluetooth headset.
Cheers to all of you who plans to buy this phone
thanks for the info. I believe everybody knows that the device is not able to do voice calls....All blogs on the web describing that, but I believe our dev will succeed porting the phone.apk. But at least the SMS & MMS? What you found out?
It's way too expensive.
If has the communication device (radio) for making calls it sure will be done here.
thinking of buying this one... need more reviews . Which store will it be available?
OK, not only am I mad at HTC mail support to have previously confirmed to me that "The Flyer will definitaly make phone calls" (I keep my hopes for the European version to allow that, but it seems it won't), but the fact that it doesn't is pretty much a dealbreaker to me : I would'nt mind using it as my every day phone, since it does offer a better experience for movie watching in the train or web browsing anywhere (I make very little phone calls), but the cost only (barely) seemed justified by the fact that it had phone internals...
So you don't think Google Talk with video and voice will work for this?

Thanks for the info. If that turns out to be true, I'm gonna be so broke next month
Just because the device supports the required frequencies doesn't mean it will be able to make phone calls out of the box. My T-mobile Galaxy Tab supports the right frequencies too but the phone.apk is crippled so calls can't be made. Even if you flash a custom rom to enable the phone features, you are blocked from 3G access and limited to Edge speeds on the GT on T-mobile in the US.
You might not be limited in the same ways on European carriers but it really depends on how much they want to limit how you use the device on their networks.
Just make sure it works the way you want it to before spending your money.

Don't worry, I never buy a device without being absolutely sure it fullfills my needs.
My last hope for the Flyer is it could be like the Galaxy Tab : being unable to place a phonecall in the US, but being able in Europe. I definitely wouldn't buy a such expensive 7 inch tab if it doesn't replace my cellphone completely. I'd rather go for a 10 inch (probably Transformer) for that use.

You can try a mobile phone accessories shop at Plaza Sing basement 2 in front of Carrefour. I bought my screen protector there. There are 2 different cases for Flyer. I didn't get any and ordered Melkco online.

Seems like this app is getting popular on here.
Ill break it down 101 style for you.
It's a voip app for your phone similar to skype except that you can charge money on your phone kind of like chargeable calling cards except that its an app. The rates vary from country to country but it seems like they made most of their rates slightly cheaper than skype's for direct competition. Personally I been using it for about a week and it seems to have cut down my long distance calling bills by about 30% so far. I previously used skype for about 30-50 bucks a month.
Has anybody here have heard of Global Call?
phownage that's a substantial amount of savings for international calls, I'm impressed. so it's somewhat similar to skype only cheaper I get it but how cheap is it? where can I see their rates?

[Q] ATT Locked (SDC)

Hi guys, I just attended the Samsung Developer Conference at San Francisco and gave us a Gears S as a gift. The device seems to be sim locked for ATT. I contacted Samsung and ATT and they know nothing about that and could offer me any solution. Hoping there's some other attendees hanging at xda, Does anybody was able to solve this problem?
Thanks

What are those conditions? They didn't announced any official app but there was an app contest with some interesting apps though.

If you are a AT&T customer/former customer(i e have.had a number) your good you can request unlock code. If your new you have to be with them for x amount of days (40 or so). Or find someone willing to add it to their account so you can unlock assuming you've paid outright. If you were never a customer YMMV but most likely no unless they feel like it then it will be emailed to you

Typically, the conference organizer will give you instructions about how to obtain a unlock code from them directly. Calling AT&T directly won't help.

That's where mine came from - I was there. Wow, the demo gods did not smile on Samsung
Anyway, no - no info was given, and I honestly doubt any thought was given to how to unlock these "dev" phones for non-AT&T customers. I happen to be on AT&T should I want to use a sim in mine.
If you register on the AT&T forums http://forums.att.com/ then you can send a PM to ATTCustomerCare (http://forums.att.com/t5/notes/privatenotespage/tab/compose/note-to-user-id/192773) and tell them the situation. That team has been the go-to team for "edge case" unlocks. Alternately you can keep trying to call the support number until you reach a supervisor who can ok the unlock, but essentially you're reaching those same people via the forum without the hassle of endlessly calling.
You can get it unlocked using cell unlocker. It took them a few days but they finally sent me an unlock code that worked first try.
I must have been the first one they did because they kept sending me emails asking I had tried it yet. Because I was travelling I had to wait a couple if days.

My fiancé and I are in the same situation. We also got the watches at the Samsung Dev Con, but we're T-Mobile customers. (Also, did you notice that the Note 4s they raffled off were for Verizon?) We already tried calling AT&T, to no avail, and now I've posted on their forums asking for help and I'm sending the customer care people a PM, as recommended in this thread.
Worst case scenario, we get our friend (an AT&T customer) to get the unlock codes. But if it comes to that, we can probably get yours unlocked with ours, if you want. We're happy to help.
I'll post an update if the customer care PM works.
Last time I was at an Microsoft event and with the AT&T phone they gave me, there is a note inside told me to email someone with IMEI for unlock. I did and they quickly email back with unlock code. You should contact your meeting organizer, not AT&T or Samsung support as they have no clue.

If you are not an AT&T customer and are on T-Mobile or Sprint, I would recommend selling the AT&T version and getting one from your Carrier that way the Radio Bands will work for you.
If you are out of country, I would recommend selling the AT&T USA Version as some others have posted where they can't get apps if the Country doesn't match their Phone, or something like that.
That being said, if you are looking at selling the AT&T one cheap, send me a PM. I bought one, had it about 6 hours before the wife confiscated it for her selfish purposes.

I am from Norway and got mine at the Samsung Developer Conference. I unlocked mine using cellunlocker.net. I received the network lock code less than an hour after submitting the order and it worked like a charm.
HOWEVER: For other non-US-citizens, you need to check whether the AT&T-device has support for your local GSM-bands. Here in Norway we have GSM 900/1800 and the AT&T device is only GSM 850/1900 from what I can find on the net. Which matches my end result of not being able to connect to my network even after unlocking.

850/1900 bands are for North America only. Only two other countries outside of North America use also use these two bands: Brazil and Australia.

That's not right. If you use AT&T messenger on the phone (as AT&T wants you to do), you will not be able to reply from the watch. So, you will have to switch back to the Samsung stock Messages app.
MMS might be a problem but regular text SMS won't be a problem. For MMS, you may need to add AT&T MMS APN.
