Hello,
Some of you, or many, might have or might have not looked for a Windows Phone 7 Mango ROM for the Samsung Galaxy SII. I know I have.
However, to no avail, Google had failed me in my searches, and I couldn't find any, or maybe I've just failed. Also, I had a look around the forum, and again, there was no such luck. My guess ? Probably because there are none.
If that is the case, and developer working on such a ROM for the Galaxy SII ?Or, even, is there one already that is hiding from me, and from many others for that matter ?
never gonna happen, as its Closed source
Your post does beg a few questions...
Why not just go for a windows phone itself than such a ROM?
i am honestly refraining from saying something rude here...
If you are looking for a look and feel then here's some post on a theme
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1288324
Please bear in mind that smartphones so far are more near to apple desktop/laptops than PC...
they can run OS from only one platform....
Not going to happen unless samsung put out a windows phone with similar hardware to the sgs2, and as wp7 has a very limited hardware spec which doesn't include the soc used in the sgs2 I don't see it happening anytime soon.

I usually express the same when people buy an Apple and would like to install Windows on it. Why not just get a laptop from the beginning ?
Anyhow, that's not the point. I've had my share of Windows phones [mobiles]. I first used a Windows Mobile 6.1 pro on my Samsung Omnia back in 2008. But, I didn't remain loyal to it. I am happy with my Android.
The point, is, or was, such as the HTC HD2, that is shipped with Windows Mobile 6.5, and can run Android, and also Windows Phone 7 [Mago too], thought maybe it could happen with the Galaxy SII.
It is not, however, going for a Windows Phone, but, it'd be nice trying it out without buying one. Not just the look and feel, sir.

That's because the HD2 has the same specs as the Desire HD (android) and HD7 (WP7)...

And microsoft were testing wp7 on hd2. In sure that's where the first rom came from. And that's why no other phones have had wp7 ports.

Guys, pardon my ignorance, I am a total newbie here as you can see. I am an iPhone user and can work around with iPhone pretty ok and I am new to Windows Mobile devices.
I am very enticed to upgrade my Windows Mobile Device to the later version which i Believer is Windows 6.5.
I downloaded the "cooked" roms as they say it. I dont know if its similar with the booloaders and stuff in iPhone but anyway.. I must say I am totally nood with the terms used in Windows Mobile Development community. Pardon me.
I just cant find the simplest tutorial on how to upgrade my device. I was hoping someone would be sooo KIND to lend me a hand. I am dying to see Windows Mobile 6.5 run on my device but I am not sure how to do it.
I am currently running Windows 6 Professional.
I hope someone can help me with this. you may send me an email at rap.espiritu(at)gmail(dot)com.
Please..
Thanks a lot guys

i was just wondering if a hero can run wm 6.5 and would it be worth it.
Well... while in theory it's probably possible to write an emulator or even hack Windows Mobile to work with different hardware, it's highly unlikely that anyone has bothered to do so. So the short answer is, no, get a Hero if you want to use Android, or get another phone if it's Windows Mobile you want.

i dont think it would be worth it. the hero is an awesome phone, but it isnt anything special hardware wise. if you want winmo it would be a whole lot easier to just buy a winmo phone. i reckon more people are interested in doing the opposite. i would love to have android on my TP2.

Why no, the why wouldnt you want to part i understand.
Seeing the new HD 2 running on wm 6.5 WITH a captive touchscreen and
about all the hardware being the same on the winmo phones (diamond2)
makes me think it is possible, but still it would be easier to just buy a winmo phone...
Could this be a sticky. I have a feeling this going to a frequently asked annoying question. It has already been asked several times.... Want a Windows phone buy a windows phone.

Why buy a windows phone when the Hero suits your visual demands and is able to run wm 6.5
I can imagine people not buying the hero for it's looks, same with the diamond2
Imagine me loving the hero phone but don't want to leave winmo... would be great
if it can run on it.
Whilst I'm sure it is possible that some enterprising chef could cook up and post up a WM6.5 ROM for the Hero, it would be removed instantly because it would be warez.
The Hero didn't come with WinMo, and therefore doesn't come with a licence to run WinMo. I'm sure someone would argue that they've an old WinMo device and want to "transfer" their licence to the Hero, but the chef could still find themselves being pursued by MS.
The same is not true in reverse of course, because Android is open source, but we've already seen Cyanogen receive a C&D letter from Google for distributing their closed source binaries with his ROMs.
Regards,
Dave
Nah, you wouldn't want to put WinMo on the Hero.
BUT I have an old Orange SPV which runs an old WinMo, could I put Android on to that ?

Hello
Is it possible to run Android on Touch2?
Nope, it needs the HardSPL first and then a custom android rom cooked just for the touch 2.
If I sound like i know what I'm talking about, I dont, but thats what I've been told so far.

I dont think that you are right! You dont need HardSPL for Android not even to change ROM! You can run Android under windows for many devices just not Mega yet! Check this.

Why did you bought HTC Touch2, which is with WinMobile OS, when on other side you could buy HTC Tattoo with Android, and with more hardware, and also little cheaper...
And now, you want to put Android to Touch2...
Why didn't you buy android phone...?
I just don't see point...
How about getting WM on the Tattoo?
These two devices seem as similar as it gets.

The touch 2 is half the price the Magic and the Hero are.
@secosan
Touch2 is about 10 euros more expensive than Tattoo...
@LtBlue
It is nice to have dual boot (WinMO and Android). I have it on my Diamond.
Only thing is that Android will never get 100% ported to Diamond (or other WinMO device). There is always something missing,... and battery life when using WiFI is very short (approx 2 hours). This and other small bugs (plus frequent Android crashing on Diamond) is turning me from android on Diamond...
There is android topic in Diamond forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=402002 with more than 6000 replies, and more than 1,600,000 views, but solution for 100% port of Android to Diamond is not yet found.
Honestly, I think it will never will be made... More likely, everyone who desperately want Android on Diamond, will buy Android device, like me... (still need money for that)
Well, I just wanna say to you all: Don't give up with android on Touch2, but most likely it will never work as it work on native Android device.
If you are desperately in need on Android device, then buy one...
And have in mind, that you will get more hardware with Android phone, and it will be cheaper than WinMO device in same rang.
Hope I helped a little...
Anybody have tryed to flash windows phone 7 OS on our beloved android phones?
And is it possible?
Won't work. Completely different hardware architecture. And as someone remarked in another thread asking this a few weeks back, "Why would you want to ruin a fantastic phone by putting Windoze on it ?".
I bet you'll never guess who that person is

Right, never owned a windows mobile in my life, Im an android person, but Ive just bought a nokia lumia 800. The phone is a few months old but its in decent condition for its age. What can i do with this phone OR do to it (without screwing it up). I know the lumia 710 can be jailbroken (hate that terminology, jailbreaking is for ios devices). can the same be acheived with the lumia 800?? I guess i should do a search. Easy to do or a ball ache? Im still going to stick with my htc sensation but its handy to know this stuff and where better place to find the experts than on xda forums :highfive:
Any help and advice will be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance

hi nice to see another lumia fan well it goes somthing like this
if your lumia has a qualcomm bootloader your free to install the custom rom in the dev thread on here but as i have found your phone might be on 7.35.0.0 and come up as qualcomm device but if you dont have access to the nand (in windows it would come up as a flash disc) then your pretty much stuck with stock roms and stock apps untill the dload bootloader is cracked. have a read in the dev forum there quite bit of info to get you started

Tip for when you need the phone to last longer (like weekend visits etc.)
Sync and mobile data is a huge battey drain. Disable mobile data and it the phone will last for days.
My advice is go slow..
With Android, most of the stock google applications like gmail were garbage so you had to go to the marketplace to find better versions.
Also, you have to root Android phones to get rid of crapware installed by carriers.
With WP7 and the Lumia..
Like iPhone, all the stock applications are excellent quality. The Mail program for instance is second to none; I don't even have any supplemental programs to it..
Also, while the Lumia will come with carrier crapware, you have probably already found out you can simply longpress and delete these with out jailbreaking or rooting. I understand this was a rule Microsoft imposed on all carrier programs to create another selling point for WP7..
So the only reason you would need to unlock would be to install homebrew applications, custom roms, or simply dicker around with the phone. All of which are fun to do but unnecessary.
In short, I found with Android (I had a Samsung Vibrant), you HAVE to unlock and Root just to have a good quality system. With WP7, you don't - the phone is good out of the gate and you only need to Root & jailbreak to do some higher level experimenting.
Good luck - hope you enjoy the phone!
What should I do?

Hello,
I have some carrier crapware into my Lumia 800 - it doesn`t let me to use another SIM card but the provider`s (it`s locked on Bouygues Telecom - France) And I was wondering if a NOOB`s guide to interop unlock my phone exists. Thanks.
Android convert
My first visit to the lumia 800 forums and I am in the same boat as the op.
I've been an android fanboy for several years (htc desire, samsung galaxy s, htc sensation, htc one x, acer iconica a500) and have found myself obsessed to the point of addiction. Yesterday, I bit the bullitt, put my one x on e-bay and ordered a network un-locked lumia 800 to be delivered today.
I would like advice on how to unlock the full potential of my device and will be reading this forum very carefully before I do anything risky but, before I start, could somebody possibly advise as to wether there is anything that is important to address before and during my initial set-up?
Hopefully I will not become too obsessed with my new venture and any informed advice would be much appreciated to a windows phone noob
ps Had a windows mobile 6.5 device a few years ago

First few hours on the device and loving it. Couldn't sync google contacts which was really bothering me but did an update whilst searching for a solution and the update had solved the problem!
Would love to 'jailbreak' it (like to mess) but, rightly or wrongly, I am getting the impression that it's not possible on this. Any ideas how to do this? Is it like root access.
It's all very different to android but makes a great change so I think I'll be staying with this little beauty for some time.
