Anyway to get the unlock code for Samsung Galaxy S2 i will be travelling abroad in 10-15 days ?
Note : I don't want to root my phone
I heard that if you have paid off your phone, and you can show the receipt, then you can call customer service and request it. They will probably wants to see that receipt.
I know you don't want to root, but it might be easier to just root it instead going through this trouble...
isint there an app on the market that does this?
i used the same app for my captivate.
compatibility list shows sgs2

I think it requires rooting to unlock using that app.
If you're willing to devote 15 - 30 minutes to it, call up AT&T and explain that you're going out of the country on business (lie, unless you actually are) and that your company is going to give you a local SIM to use when you arrive so they pick up the expenses for phone service. Give them the ESN. They told me this morning (when I got the unlock code for mine) that they would give it to you as long as you've been a customer in good standings for 6 months. I actually had the same guy agree to give me the unlock code for my Captivate on the same call (told him I wasn't sure which I'd use overseas).
You will need another SIM card to insert so that you will be prompted for the code. I used an old Nextel SIM card -- anything non-AT&T should work.

Question for you guys. I have a chance to buy this phone (SGS2 ATT) for $370. Like new and comes with everything, the seller has had it for a month and said he just didn't like it. I've done research between both the Amaze and this phone and I like both. I'm currently on Simple mobile and will need to unlock it but I know I will only get EDGE. Is it worth getting this phone and trying it out, and if I don't like it just sell it? What do you guys think?
You can definitely try it out and if you don't like it, you can probably sell it for that price or higher is my guess.. You can unlock it by rooting the phone or buying the unlock code from eBay or something...
Yeah, this is a great phone and you should (or at least I would) give it a try. There's already a thread about unlocking the phone, its just an app you download then run something once.
you dont have to buy any code to unlock it..if you've been an AT&T customer for more than 90 days and are in good standing all you have to do is call customer service and tell them you're traveling over seas and you need the unlock code..they'll give it to you for free...you just need a sim card from another provider to be able to punch in the code..once the codes punched in..its good forever..put ur AT&T sim back in
i did this
^I thought that your phone have to be registered to AT&T for more than 90 days.. which this phone only been out for about 73 days.
Either way guys, I don't have AT&T. I'm on Simple Mobile (T-mobiles Brother network )
my mom is here, in cambodia, visiting from the states. I'm trying to unlock her phone, so she can use the SIM here. Her phone is rooted with the stock ROM, would installing a custom ROM unlock her phone? or if there is another way to unlock her phone, without the unlock code from the AT&T, let me know. Thanks.
yeah. pay an online site for the code. does she really need to make long distance calls from her note? why not just grab a throw away local prepaid phone.
i dont think there are any free options at the moment. well there is Dell Fongo wifi calling app.
as stated, you must visit a site and pay for an unlock code. there is no custom rom that will sim unlock it. As of right now there are no free unlock options either.
Don't some ICS roms support voip? Would that be an option, and if she needs to call, just wifi tether off your phone or go somewhere with a router?
Also paying for minutes with Skype and going off your wifi

if you have GrooveIP, and a wi fi connection, she can call all she wants for free..
thanks for the reply. i understand your concerns but its more convenient to make local calls. she has friends and family here that she needs to call or they call her. there isn't wifi everywhere she goes. i mean she paid for her Note, she shouldn't have to spend another 10-15 bucks on a cheapo. she has every right to use her phone anywhere, even if it's not on an AT&T network. anyways, we'll try to contact AT&T.

we understand your frustration but by the time AT&T gets back to you she'll be on a plane back already. having a killer phone in hand and not being able to use it is infuriating. besides $15 is cheaper than the $30 most online unlock places charge.
yea. shes here for another week. when i called AT&T before, for my unlock code. it was quick, i just gave them IMEI number and they gave me the 16 digit unlock code. no more than 5 minutes.

Well!!! Good for you! About time ATT was cooperative.
HI, I just wanting to throw something out there...I was looking at some different sites about unlocking the galaxy note...and I was also checking the reviews for the sites too(can never be too careful).. and I ended up picking cellunlock.net and going with that one...the unlock was 39.99 but after using the promo code I searched in google (android50) it brought it to 19.99..well while I was waitng on the unlock email I stuck my sim card from tmobile usa in there and come to find out it was already unlocked...well I still got a unlock code in my email about 12 hours later but never tried it cuz there was no reason too...well since then I got a new note ( a white one).. and it was not already unlocked...believe I checked haha...but I checked reviews again and there were several saying that the never got a code..and several saying that the codes they sent were fake...but I really needed the note unlocked and at&T wasn't helping..so I went for it anyway...I got the unlock code in my email about 28 hours later and I tried it and it luckily worked!...now that was about 4 hours out of the time frame that they gave me...but it worked...so I just thought Idf let people know my experience...but try at your own risk!
at&t has been giving out the unlock codes for free.
I dunno if the sale is still on, but I got my code from unlockthatphone.com for about $14.
I talked to AT&T international care on the website and they gave me the unlock code in 2 minutes without a problem

yeah that's where I almost always get them from...but this one they wouldn't give me...something about people abusing the right to get the codes or something like that..but hey..what the heck..i don't mind paying 20 for an unlock code
I called 611 from my cell today and asked for the unlock code and they gave it to no questions asked... well other than my imei and if I had any other questions.

You weren't kidding. Called and said I wanted to use the phone overseas and gave them the imei number and a minute later she had the unlock code for me. Nice!!
Same for me - I got the unlock code straightaway on a web chat with AT&T. The site says something about a limit on the number of unlocks one can obtain on an account, I think it was something like 5 per year.
I don't see why they would give you a hard time unless you're unlocking a bunch of phones on your account.
Same for me, I used the AT&T International Support web chat and they gave me the code right away. Too bad you need a non-AT&T SIM to actually use it.

That is the point of unlocking a phone -- to use another carrier's sim card. Otherwise, why unlock?

For me? Higher resale value. All other phones I've unlocked didn't require a SIM at all to do this.

Ohh. Good answer. I've never sold my old phones (23 and counting. . .)
Hi there! I know I'm about to ask something stupid.
I've owned and modded a Defy for almost 2 years, and today I got a second hand MB860 (I found that you call it Atrix 4G; here we've got no 4G for the time being, so it is just an "Atrix"). The fact is that it's still simlocked, and in a few months I might need to ask the guy who buyed it a the phone company to ask there for the subsidy code, or pay someone to give it to me.
One of the guys who unlocks cell phones over here, in a forum, has said that it is necessary for the phone to have the Stock ROM at the moment of entering the subsidy code. Honestly I didn't believe him, I've always been convinced that there is no way for the ROM to interfere at the moment of simunlocking a cell phone. Am I wrong? At the moment of introducing the subsidy code, does it need something special? I've been searching here, but found nothing yet.
The problem about this is that that guy says "Ok, if you don't want to believe me, don't do it. Try it on another ROM, but I won't give your money back if my subsidy code just doesn't work". I wouldn't like to lose 25 USD without the possibility of complaining to the guy, and I'm a bit curious about what he says.
Thanks in advance!
Hey i recently unlocked my atrix on a rom that isnt stock. It shouldn't matter which rom you use. What i did was call AT&Ts wireless department. I didnt know which specific department i needed so i waited until i was transferred to a real person and told them I needed to unlock my phone which had been under contract with them a long time ago. I was actually never in a contract with them as the phone was a gift but they didnt ask any firther questions. So they transferred me. Told me to give them the IMEI number and told me to wait while they look it up. They then instructed me to put a sim card from another company to get the sim unlock prompt to popup. I put in the code they gave me and i succesfully unlocked my atrix. I did this on monday and used a tmobile sim i had lying around. I was given the code within 10 mins. Best of luck

Thanks! I think I will keep reading a little so as to mod it (I found the Atrix a little bit riskier than the Defy) and then unlock it.
There is always the option of flashing stock again, but I'd like to avoid it .
Hello XDA,
I have been here a lot of times, but didn't remember my essential info to log on as before.
I was in USA recently and someone stole my backpack. I went to t mobile, to buy a phone. And I specified, I need it to be unlocked because in a month I am flying back home. I paid the device normal price 350 dollars for an S3 and got it or 300 dollars don't remember. I am now home and the device doesn't work. And I want to unlock it and remove the T mobile firmware.
is it possible?
Regards
Mario

Not sure where the lie is...? They don't sell the phones unlocked, even when purchased out right. If you were told that, most likely the CSR just didn't know what they were talking(common) about rather than actively lying to you. You should be able to contact their customer service to obtain an unlock code though if you have proof of purchase. Other than that, if it isn't updated (not likely) past 4.1.2 you can unlock it yourself via hidden menu. If you are on 4.3, this method no longer works that I have seen and you'll need to purchase an unlock code from a reputable source if T-Mobile refuses to help or you are unable to provide them with the necessary details for them to give you the code.

I asked her like 4 times. Will it work in my country? The answer was yes, and the last time was, are you going to ask me again sir?
Can someone direct me to the secret menu? I am in my country now. Will it unlock?
I am on odin and I cant flash back the 4.1.1. why is that. If I flash it back I will be able to use the secret code
So, you got it from the US, and not you are home (can I as where?) and it doesn't accept your sim card?
Do you have an authentic receipt with the full price, and/or proof of purchase?
if so you can contact an authorized Samsung dealer in your area and describe the issue, and they will give you the unlock codes.
Something similar happened to me: I bought a brand new Galaxy S3 from Europe and sent it as a gift to the Middle east, where it didn't work, but with the receipt and some patience (a week/10 days), Samsung sent us the unlock codes.

No, once you update to latest version (4.3) with its modem, you can't use old unlock codes (unless you backed up your EFS), but I guess your only hope is Samsung, try them first.
