This just started today but my 3G signal is sporatic going from 3G to 1X. Anybody experiencing this? My signal even drops completely.

Let me guess...
You are on an MTD ROM like MIUI CM7, (or some variation of CM7)...
The 3G data dropping out is a problem that comes and goes on many people's phones that can usually be temporarily fixed by toggling Airplane mode or a reboot.
There is no known fix at this time
But... if you are not on an MTD Rom, then disregard my reply
It's also a known fact that the Fascinate has a terrible radio chip. Whether on MTD, modified TouchWiz ROMs or stock, my signal constantly goes from 3G to 1x. Hopefully my wife(Nexus Prime) won't do that.

I live in a very good area and always have great signal. Never had speed issues with my Fascinate but now with the X2 lately the last couple weeks my 3G signal is all over the place. I'm on my 2nd X2 because the first one felt like it was on fire when using data. Well this one did it too. The 3G radio gets really hot when using data. Except for the last few days it doesn't do it anymore, doesn't get hot at all which is good except my data speeds are terrible the majority of the time. Now its not always bad, but 90% of the time or better its less than 0.5 mbps with 3-4 bars. When its working correctly I get 1.2-1.8 mbps in the same places like at home where I'm getting 0.5 mbps or less most of the time. Wondering if the 3G radio could have burnt itself out or is it a software issue?
It may be a VERIZON issue. Can you compare it to someone else's in the same areas?

Yeah, my wife's fascinate is fine.
Mine seems like it could cook an egg with w/ how hot it gets with heavy radio use. I had spotty speeds at one time for about 2 wks and upon calling VZW they told me it could be the 4g updates rolling out of my nearest city. They were dropping local towers to upgrade them causing my radio to lock on a tower further away. Things have been normal as of late with my speeds so maybe they were correct, for once.

Mine was just the opposite. Spotty 3g speeds with my fascinate + the missed call thing=a move to the x2 where my data has been rock solid for the most part, especially with naven's tweaks. Do you have any apps that hijack the radio? I had root call blocker installed & its a great app for blocking unwanted calls but it has to hijack the radio at boot up to insert its script and sometimes it would take 5+ min for 3g to come on. I ultimately lost all data one day only to find that somehow my radio had been set to 1xrtt instead of 3g evdo. The only thing to fix it was a factory data reset. I've never put that app back on my phone & have never had that issue again.

I never had a speed issue with the fascinate, my issues were missed calls and battery life. I don't believe I have anything hijacking the radio.
Well it appears to be a verizon issue as I was in a different part of town this afternoon and was consistently getting 1.3 mbps+ as I ran a speedtest several times to make sure.
Soooo that means that the tower near my house is crap for some reason right now, which is also the one I am on at work apparently because its only a couple miles from home.
Thanks for the help guys.

A small observation i have made thus far with running code's Kang
There seems to be alot of bouncing between 3G and H+. Im not sure what the implications are in terms of bat drain or issues, however just somthing i have observed that i do not running a similar OS on my Desire HD.
My area we are not yet H+ however i hold steady at h+ most all the time.

All 4G phones have H+ constant unless they fall on EDGE

I understand this, however its bouncing between H+ and 3G constandly like once ever other min, which seems odd

I know devices typically switch if something is actively going on (an active data session). Are your data transmission arrows lighting up when showing H and nothing when showing 3G? If so, I think this is typical.

Wrong. Phones only use HSPA when transferring data, they idle in vanilla UMTS.
AT&T mangles their frameworks to report everything as H+ even when it's not actually in HSDPA+ mode.
CM7 is just reporting the truth that AT&T's mangled framework hides from you.

Its bouncing both in and outside of data consumption. I dont find this to be the case Running CM7 or MIUI on my Desire HD
Just an observation
Drew
Different RIL.
And our RIL might have the same minor issue that the Infuse RIL did in which HSPA+ was reported as only UMTS - so if you were in a non-+ HSPA mode it would be H, if you were in 3G it would be 3G, if you were in HSPA+ it would be 3G. This was a display error... Do you notice any significant differences in actual data speed performance between CM7 and stock firmware?
(Actually, you could still see slow data if the CM7 tree uses older TCP buffer size values.)
Anyone else experiencing 4g issues after update? When I'm in areas where I used to have strong 4g, I'm getting weak 2g now. Also, sometimes WiFi signal strong but pages load slow and switching from WiFi to tmo network causes no data connectivity. Stupid updates grrr
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using xda premium
Same here. Kind of wish I could go back to how I got it out of the box. After the update I get a lot of 2G signal where before I would get 4G nearly always. At least the latest update fixed the issue of not being able to turn the phone off. It did for me at least.
I have seen that as well and suspecting the new radio in that latest update. in many cases, my phone get stuck in 2G
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using xda premium
I have not seen any difference. Do you have a 128kb sim card?
Which update is this? I haven't had an update for a while now.
I work at T-Mobile. Anytime I have seen an issue was because it was not a new 3G-G sim.
that is true my brother updated his phone and has been having service problems ever since sometimes even no service at all. He has baseband that ends in .08 and I have the one that ends in .07 so mine has been ok.
As the title says, periodically wifi connections will cause my note to loose connection to the network. I will get the "no signal" crossed circle where the cell signal strength bar would be located....after that happens i have to restart my phone to reestablish the network connection. Wifi is not affected. No amount of toggling radio switches or going into airplane will affect the network loss...only a restart.
I am on the stock att Rom at the moment.
Anyone else experience this?

Every time I've encountered quirks with WiFi and cell signal on my android phones airplane mode for 15 seconds or so has fixed it. Odd.
Hopefully someone else chimes in for you. Bump.

Anybody have a fix for this issue?
Seems everyday, I will have to turn on airplane mode to jump start my mobile network. I'll see a signal (3-4 bars) and 4G/4G LTE...expect the signal bars will be gray. I always have to activate airplane mode and then turn it off, to reconnect to the mobile network.
I've reflashed my custom GB ROM (Flapp's) and no luck. I still end up having to do this at least once a day. I don't know....
RIL / Modem conflict perhaps?
Does anyone else have problems with mobile data dropping frequently?
My thunderbolt and rezound act the same. At work, the signal strength reported in the about phone screen fluctuates between -63 & - 73dbm. Ill lose mobile data countless times daily. If you go to the settings to try and toggle mobile data, it's greyed out and says turning on...
So frustrated with this behavior
Ehh I have this problem to a certain extent with the nexus but its not too bad

Verizon probably have a weak signal in your work place.
This happens. Also, LTE is known to stop allowing traffic (at random) and require a turning off/on of Mobile Data (especially when using constant data for long periods of time).
It's annoying.
Different places - happens more than others.
I have also been experiencing issue with Verizon data connections as of late. I have a hard time even locking onto 3G with my Rez. But my other phones no issues, I am now on my 4th Rezound in over a month since having this issue.

what other phones gets better signal? just wondering?
I have this same issue... What is the problem? Should I get a new rezound?
Its pointless to have LTE if I cant use it......
Its like when it works it works well, but most of the time, it just sits there the data arrows unlit, when i try to use data..
I powercycle, turn mobile data off and on, and sometimes it works, but most of the time Im stuck to using Wi-Fi...
So why should i pay verizon all this money for Wifi?
Ugh.. Im gonna return this pos.

Compared to my unfortunate experience with 4G devices, any of my other 3G phones hold onto and got better locks on 3G than compared to the past Rezounds. Now the latest rezound finally does get a data lock the prior 4 did not.
I've got no 4g issues. Almost never drops. I'm in southern California.

This issue has been addressed a lot in many forums for the rezound, tbolt, gnex, and pretty much every 4g phone out. For some phones its not that bad. I think its software based cause once I rooted and s-off I've never had it happen to me again. The gnex I think they narrowed down to combination of software and hardware issues. I've been running ice roms since I rooted. I've been through 3 replacements, all did it, all had new Sims all new phones (not refurbished).
Here's a post I followed when it was happening to me. I've done lots of research on this and I truley do think its software based (mostly because Verizon won't admit its their network)

It's a network. If you have -65 -75 dbm on 1xrtt that doesn't mean you have the same signal strength on lte. LTE signal is different from 1xrtt or evdo. The reason that you lose date quite often is because the LTE signal is very poor in your location especially if you are indoor. to improve LTE signal wilson electronics has very good amplifier, that calls sleek 4g-v get it. It may improve the signal by 20 dbm.
There is a few threads on this and no resolutions. There is some kinda of problem with the network that Verizon isn't owning up to. There is a bunch of forums posting the problem as well, where the 4g just drops off and then comes back on. Prior to the begining of June if my 4g dropped out it would go to 3g. Now the places I had solid 4g I am getting it on and off every minute or so. I went down to verizon and the girl said she is having problems with her Tbolt. We changed out the sim and she said she could get me a new phone but to me it sounds like the network if so many people across all phones are having problems. I am going to call Verizon probably this weekend or monday cause I am tired of being on 3g all the time and not being able to use the 4g is driving me nuts. Things are so slow. Arg.

once in a blue moon my signal bar would drop a couple bars even though its been in the same spot for about 5 minutes. but thats about it.
Im stuck on 1x since last night -_-
Try using *#*#4636#*#* and toggle lte on and off. If you absolutely need lte only set to only allow it. I have a good lte signal at work, but it dies quickly once in the building.

From all the responses, Galaxy S3 is the best signal people are getting to date. Better than the one xxx and the Motorola Razor Maxx. And HTC and Motorola have been known to have the best reception. Go figure.
I won't have my GS3 until July 9th so I can't say first hand.
