I tried to google search this but found nothing. My phone is ROM'ed atm but their hasent been a update for it in a few months. So i want to put a more updated ROM and also because every 12 hours my phone ask me to upgrade to gingerbread. Now the question is in order to add a new ROM can i just install it over the old ROM or do i need to uninstall it. If i need to uninstall it how do i do so? just wipe the phone? Also sorry if this is in the wrong spot cant ask this question in the developer part.
Sbf to 2.3.3 if you want to get anothr rom. Dont ota for an update

So your saying just install gingerbread, root the phone again and then rom it? So its safe to just install gingerbread without wiping the phone? I have no idea what sbf or ota means so im kinda lost.

Look up the sbf article in the sticky, follow it, root, install bootstrap, flash now rom. Its that simple.

Oh sweet thanks ill try this out when i get out of class tonight.
ok so i installed rsd lite and got my phone to stock gingerbread. I rooted with 'MotorolaOneClickRoot_psouza4 and that was ok. I installed bootstrap and when i click install recovery it says Install Failure /data/data/com.tenfar,a4.recovery/files/surunner.sh (Permission denied). What does this mean? I know im rooted since titanium backup is working and superuser is asking permission for stuff.

I do not think that you are rooted then. Do you have adb installed? If not, I would just rerun the exploit again.

great i redid oneclick root and now i dont have root on my phone. Im going back to froyo and downloading gingerbread and then trying to root that somehow. This is very annoying.
Why go back to froyo? Just SBF gingerbread 2.3.3 and one-click root it.

You don't use RSD, its not a SBF, you download it to your phone, rename it to "update.zip", go into recovery and select "Apply SDCARD:update.zip" or "Apply SDINTERNAL:update.zip" depending on where you saved it. Then you select reboot, and your done!

It wont right now. I think Nitro tweeted earlier facebook sync is working on the new 2.3.4 build.
I think u may be able to just use the facebook app from the market to do that also...not sure...I didn't want my facebook contact in my contact so I haven't tried.

I just picked up a X2 off of CL and it seems to have a partial root (if there is such a thing). It has SuperUser on it but no CWM recovery installed. Where do I go from here? I have tried to do a factory reset and the SU remains there. I would like to get the thing fully rooted with some custom recovery/ROM awesomeness....
There is no such thing. If it has SU then its probably rooted. Look for an app that says system recovery. If you wiped then it probably gone. It needs to be reinstalled. It installs like an APK with options to install recovery and a recovery mode and a charge mode. The recovery can be found in DEV section with any of the rooting guides.

Superuser gets killed if your phone got an over the air (OTA) update from Verizon. Easy to fix, all you need to do is SBF to 2.3.3 or 2.3.4 and use the one click root method to root then install boot strap recovery if you want to install a custom ROM.
Search the development X2 forum for the SBF Tutorial. It will explain step by step instructions.

He speaks the truth. Worked for me
Recommend starting on SBF 2.3.4 and use the OneClickRoot to root it afterwards. Just make sure that after flashing stock 2.3.4 to set the phone from Charge Only to PC Sync and allow debugging (Settings -> Applications -> Development) so OneClick can see your phone.
Recommend installing System Recovery afterwards. System Recovery lets you boot into a CWM recovery mode, and of course, flash unsigned .zips (ROMS) Note: Just a heads up, you can't boot into the tweaked System Recovery unless the USB is plugged in the AC outlet or a car charger. I found that... as a minor speed bumping when getting it to work.
If you are unsure how to use the SBF with RSDLite let us know and we will help you run through that.
SBF 2.3.3 then one click root
I would start off with the SBF for 2.3.3 and then the one click root. The leaked version of 2.3.4 has battery issues still as far as I know.
There is an official 2.3.4, not just the "leaked" Soak Test version.

Try one more factory reset after you flash. That has happened to me before but goes away after the second factory reset.
Is it possible to flash CWM from rom manager for the Photon and if so which model do you select??
I had the bootstrap on my phone which was from the x2, but I'm not sure if CWM will be the same or if Atrix would be better or if I'm barking up the wrong tree lol.
Basically I flashed a theme and now I have no settings so I can't setup my BT, WiFi, or even install an app on my sd card because I can't change any settings. And I can't flash a new rom/theme without the settings.
EDIT: So I flashed the Atrix recovery from rom manager since a google search said you could and then flash another. Once I did and tried to boot into recovery it said "failed to boot 2"
Do a factory reset through bootstrap. Happened to my buddy last night after applying a theme, he had no settings.
I restored the bootstrap by using titanium backup when I hit that snag last night
Or if you have an backup, you can take the settings app from it and place it in the system apps
LMAO, and why I didn't think of that I have no idea. I've had mybackup pro since I had my Evo over a year ago and use it religiously, until now that is lmao. I just backed it up before I flashed the new theme and didn't even think of that, good looking out guys thanks.
EDIT: Anyone know of another way to flash CWM without using ADB or SDK??
EDIT no. 2: installing from backup didnt work, it prompts me to go to settings because install from unknown sources is blocked and when I try to go to it I get a Force Close.
Is it possible to just put the settings.apk in the right folder with root explorer or something of that naturr?

That's what i did, I put the settings apk in the zip and installed it and now everything is fine. Settings looks normal but its there

Why can't you factory reset, and then flash the latest stock build using rsd lite? You should have everything there. Just back your apps up in titanium and restore each one after.
Sent from my MB855 using xda premium
Even doing factory reset using ##786# I couldn't get it to detect in rsdlite using rsd mode on my photon. I found out my rsdlite was an old version and I had a hell of a time finding the newer version (even the links I found on here were broken links) Once I got that I flashed the current sbf, then went about the pudding unlock steps and got it all done.
Ok, so I was installing the ubthrottle script and it didn't go as well as planned. I have lost root access. Superuser.apk is still there so if I try to reroot the phone it fails at the end because the apk still exsists. I can't get to the BSR so I can't restore any of my backups. Obviously I will probably have yo sbf and start over. The only bad thing about all of that is the only internet access I have is via my phone and don't have an sbf locally so when I download it, it takes a huge ammount of data. Anyways if there is another solution let me know

Luckily, it sounds like you didn't lose anything, but that's why, whenever you're going to flash something, it's always good to nandroid first so you can get back to where you were before.

I guess what I was trying to say was, before you flashed the mod onto your phone, boot into BSR, nandroid backup and then flash it. I'm assuming you had to boot into BSR to flash the mod? Not familiar with the mod you were talking about.
Anyways, once you SBFed back and rooted, you would have been able to reinstall SBR and then nandroid recover your previous installation. That's what I meant.
Anyways, glad to see you're back up and running.
Sorry for the misunderstanding on my part...and it was the script that motcher had posted to ubthrottle it was handled with a scripter not the bsr

My friend found the way to root OTA .629!
Make sure your phone working on .629,
1.Flash repacked .608 sbf
http://db.tt/xj6oos8G
(Never Try Full .608 SBF !!!)
2 .Download tool PetesMotorolaRootTools or SuperOneClick extract all and run.(Just like rooting .608)
Note : - FIRST - Please Enable USB Debugging , Then connect cable for usb type Charge only
3.Install app otarootkeeper(Can be found in Play Store,it's free),backup su, unroot.
4.Reboot to Motorola Recovery, Wipe, apply .629 OTA update.zip,reboot.
5.install otarootkeeper app again,restore su
Check your device, it should rooted
ATTENTION: Reapply .629 update is very important, when you flashed our repacked .608 sbf, your device is working on a unstable hybrid rom

Now, rooted, I'm finally able to delete all those stupid Verizon bloatware (I'm not on Verizon, even more, I CAN'T use Verizon, I'm not in U.S.!) - got around 10-15% on speed (some things apparently are in startup and slowing the phone down).
Other thing, before this update, I had some minor and occasional problems with touch - like ghosts or something, after unlocking touch started to do weird stuff, opening apps by it-self, moving icons across the screen - no more, it works great (for now). This might be because of fresh and full install and wipe (yes, it's a hassle to do it, to install all apps again, set them up... but, it's kinda good solution...).
Enjoy yourself

I've been trying to get CM7 on my X2 unsuccessfully for about two hours, here's the process I took.
I saved all my stuff, and erased everything on the phone using the Android Recovery. I went back to 2.3.4 using RSDlite, then Root using Pete's Tool and installed OTA Protect. I then installed Bootstrap, installed recovery, went to recovery mode, installed CM7, and then GAPPs. Now, I wipe data, clear the cache, clear the davlik cache, and reboot. Now, this is where I just get stuck at the M Dual Core Technology Screen.
I searched the forum for answers, but I couldn't really my problem. It seems CM7 just isn't booting for me. I have tried this 2-3 times already, please help me out!

Load BSR for CM7
You CAN NOT boot CM with regular BSR loaded , hence the wipe Data before booting.
