Just turn off Auto-sync within your Accounts & Sync settings and they dont display.

hey guys,
i just cant find the setting to disable the automatic sync of the gmail app with my account. can some one please help? :-D guess i'm just not seeing it
thx in advantage
Okay found it. It's in general phone settings under data synchronize.
... and you can also turn off all syncing by disabling the backgroung data
ok, i'm not normally one to have trouble with issues such as these, but this is my first android phone (htc evo 3d) and when i first got it on launch date, i manually entered all my contacts from my old phone to my new one. well i recently went through the root process and read that if you had your gmail account as the primary google account, that you wouldnt have to worry about your contacts anymore, after a wipe or changing to a new phone.
well after root i let the phone do all the gmail syncing after enabling it, and my contacts are still not there. i am having trouble getting into an option that will let me view or add or edit contacts from google. i go into accounts and sync, click my google account but all it will let me do is enable or disable the syncing of contacts. can someone give me a brief rundown of exactly how this works? and are my contacts all gone?
It works pretty much the way you described it; once you have the contacts in your phone you sync and they all get saved to your default gmail account. Then when/if you decide to wipe, you run sync again and they'll be uploaded to your phone.
This is what I'd do if I were you;
- Open gmail -> contacts and check if they are actually there.
- If your contacts are there, then maybe you don't have them set to shown in your phone display options under contacts.
thanks for the quick reply. when you say to open gmail, do you mean through the accounts and sync settings menu? or the gmail app? when i go through the accounts and sync, i just get the option of turning the syncing for each category (i.e. contacts, weather, news) on or off, i cant actually go into each one to see what they are comprised of. i feel pretty dumb not being able to figure this out, but i had over 100 peoples numbers and information on my contacts before i wiped and rooted my phone, so i'm willing to accept sounding like a noob in hopes of possibly getting them back.
thanks again in advance.
No problem at all No, I meant open it on your computer (http://www.google.com/contacts) and see if there are any in there.
Regarding display options; I don't know which phone you're using, but you get there by opening Contacts -> Display Options on my LG (http://www.shrani.si/f/30/1s/1KBZD0Ot/screenshot-1314442655693.png a screenshot of how it might look like if it's of any help)
Hello, I have using a custom rom ics aosp in my galaxy s2,
i have had the issue that the contacts dissapear from the telephone and become google contacts I have set the contacts application to show phone contacts only.
from time to time i see my list of contacts empty and after digging i found out they were moved to google contacts. I do not want this. I have disabled syncing also as a extreme measure i have disable background data but this doesn't seem to stop this behavior, the only thing i have found to get past this problem is to delete the google account.
is there a hint to avoid or completely disable contacts getting synced to google, there is no individual option to disable contacts sync only.
I hope i made myself clear. thank you

Just a suggestion:
There is an option in settings menu to enable/disable to backup some data to Google servers, such as contacts, wifi settings, etc.
Maybe you should check this option and disable it, if it is enabled.
Settings => Backup and restore => Save/backup my data
Good luck !
Mate if your contacts are geting saved on server then wats the harm..it's gonna help once you change to new phone.. That time you can get your all contacts back in few minuts by log in to your gamil account..however if you still wanna do it then Go to conatct >settings and then disable it from there..perhaps this can help you.

there are some folders in my gallery that i cannot open nor delete and it shows that there are no pics in them but still take up like 83 mb. This started happening the first time i connected my phone to the computer and when i reconnect it, the folders dissapear until i take a pictur then all three folders reappear. here is what it looks like
Those are shared folders from other devices connected to the same wifi router.

Access your Gmail account from your PC (or even the browser on the desktop settings). Go into settings and disable or delete Picasa from there.

I can't find anything in settings related to picasa, do you know where abouts in settings.
I seem to have somehow developed an invisible exchange account on my rooted (but otherwise stock) 4.1.2 AT&T HTC One. I don't know at what level to attack this problem -- is it a Sense issue or an Android issue? What app or data should I delete / uninstall or clear?
If I go to Settings -> Accounts & sync -> under the "Manage Accounts" area there is no Exchange ActiveSync account even listed.
If I try to add an "Exchange ActiveSync" account I get the Error message in a popup box that says "You have already set up this Exchange account." Googling for that message or searching for it on xda did not yield anything helpful.
I'm not sure if this developed at some point from a Nandroid restore or what...
Does anyone know how to delete this invisible Exchange account that it says I have already set up? I can't see the account anywhere to delete it, but it's data must exist somewhere inside "Accounts & sync" and so it thinks I have already set it up... I'd like to delete it for real and then re-add it.
Thanks for any ideas.

So the problem is I can't update my Exchange account password because the account is not there to even select in "Accounts & sync"... so, similarly, I can't delete it... and can't re-add it, because it claims it is already there, tho' I can't see it...
I suppose maybe a total factory reset would fix it ... and then restore all other app's, but that seems like a nuclear option considering I just want to delete an account. Plus it would be better to understand the correct way to fix this, rather than resorting to a total wipe.
thanks...
Oh well.. just thought maybe there was some way to delete the offending hidden exchange account from the back-end since I'm rooted... if I could use ES File Explorer to nuke something... but I doubt that is easy to figure out.
I suppose the only real solution will be to factory reset and re-install all app's... well... a good excuse to install Revolution HD or some other great ROM... then I'd have to be re-setting all system settings anyway.
Note that I actually called HTC about this and the (nice / smart) tech. support guy was equally baffled by the weirdness of this... so it goes...
This kind of stuff never seemed to happen to me in the iPhone universe... less error-prone it would seem... however... I'll still take Android flexibility over the gilded cage .
Still if anyone ever has any ideas about this, it would be interesting to hear... thanks.
SOLVED!
Someone from Android StackExchange guided me to fix my problem!!
The solution was to delete the app data for the "Mail" app on the HTC One. I guess an invisible Exchange account was lurking attached to that app somehow.
After clearing the data for that app, I can once again create the Exchange account I need! My calendar works again....
Fixed!
