I have tried to figure this one out but I am confused. I am noob got pretty good at the FUZE but this Android stuff for loading is kind of confusing. Got my SGII rooted.....and and got rid of the yellow triangle.....tried to do a factory reset to start over and now I'm stuck in recovery mode.....can move the selections up and down but the power/enter button does nothing. I have a plug and can get to download mode.....but can't find a stock ROM image to load and I don't believe that I can load it from ODIN.....probably wrong but not for sure. I could certainly use some assistance..... I know that there are those of you out there that know this stuff cold......I just want to get back to a rooted stock ROM (if I can) and am having troubles. Thank you in advance for any and all assistance. Hope I don't go down in flames!

Why would you do a factory reset 'to start all over'???!!!
wipe data+factory reset is used only while switching to a new ROM.
You can flash ROMs from ODIN.
Use google or search in XDA to find odin flashable ROMS.
For clockworkmod flashable roms

OK....maybe I'm not the brighest bulb in the box......I can get to download mode with the plug......I have loaded CF-Root-SGS2_XW_XEU_KH4-v4.1-CWM4.tar using ODIN.....it loads w/o error. When the phone reboots it's stuck on ClockworkMod v4.0.0.2. The volume up and down keys work fine for the selection....but the power/selection button takes me to a tophat and the phone does absolutely nothing from there.........sat at the screen for 8 hours..... Might be simple to some but I'm lost......not a expert like some.....just want to get my phone back to working.........

Well I have read and tried to piece together information from the posts in the forums. I read for two weeks but it's difficult to glean info from a post that starts OK then everyone puts their 2 cents into the post then you have a 150 page post the your trying to get the info from. I'm not here to get flamed.......as I pretty much figured that I would....... I can not get CWM to take an "enter" from the power on button.....so I can not reload CWM by it's self, cause the phone won't boot. Or from the phone booting..... I can get to download mod and have tried to reload the afore mentioned image.......it loads ok from ODIN but on reboot it stops a CWM and again I can go no futher........I get the tophat and circle....but that is where CWM stops........ I can not get it to go further. I thought that was a legitatmate question.........

Download the stable kernel (4.0.1.5) from OP and flash using ODIN. If your phone boots normally, then you can go for different roms/kernels/modems whatever.
Also, before powering off the phone if you had forgotten to tick USB debuggin, then the phone won't automatically boot after ODIN flash. But if flash was a success, you can manually reboot.

I'm trying to figure out how to get a factory image back onto my galaxy tab 10.1....It will only boot up to the Samsung screen and then immediately re-boots...I've even gotten into recovery and wiped everything 4 times already and it still wont boot up. I just really need some help as to what to do now..I've heard that by using Odin, that I could re-flash the entire operating system, but I'm not sure..Any help, thank you guys!
Re-flash the stock file using CWM
How can i get into cwm if it wont even boot up?
1) Power On
2) When you see the Samsung Logo, hold the Power and Volume up buttons
3) It will then display the Downloading icon as well as Recovery icon
4) Select to boot into Recovery.. Flash your stock image if you backed it up.
First off...thank you so much for taking time to help me..secondly, i dont think i backed up stock image..ive only use titanium for backups. Am i out of luck or is there a way to get stock image onto this thing so i can flash?

Did you get your tab working?
No i am going to attempt it tomorrow morning when i have more time...but to be honest...i am a little nervous
So was I the first time, but it's simple. FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS!!!!!! I see post all the time where something isn't working all because someone didn't wipe or backup.
If you have issues, there is a tonne of threads with how to fix. Good Luck
Hey all,
i've read through many treads on how to do this but im getting confused as different threads say different things and there is info i think i am missing so i was wondering if you could help me as im noobing out and im confused as hell now. so basicly i have a stock standard Galaxy S2 with the Australian Vodafone ROM/OS/ whatever its called. Model is GT-I9100T running 2.3.5. so with all the info i have been reading the things that have confused me the most are
What version of kernel to use as there seem to be like 50 billion (may be exaggerating)
What is the "modem" that gets mentioned every so often and if i need it what one do i get?
How to use the Clockwork mod and how do i install it because i think the new ROM i want to install is the Cyanogen mod and it made me install a different root and the wiki for it was unclear when it came to the end of installing it
and then how do i install the Cyanogen Mod once i have done the rom.
i know there is a fair bit of info out there but all the threads i read are either incomplete or im just well....... yeah. Help would be amazing for this as the Vodafone OS is starting to annoy the hell out of me!
Thanks heaps!
To root your phone, go to this thread & find the kernel that matches with the baseband details in settings/about phone. Flash this kernel in the PDA section of Odin (DL link also found in this thread).
This will also install CW Recovery on your phone.
No need to go changing modems unless you have problems with coverage/data and you're sure this isn't a Vodafone coverage/capacity issue in your area.
To install Cyanogen, refer to the thread devoted to it in the development section of the board. Follow any installation instructions to the letter (there's a hint right there).
Bottom line, if you're confused/scared/not confident about rooting your phone or flashing a custom rom/kernel, don't until you are confident about it. Whilst these processes are relatively simple if you follow the instructions, if you skip things and don't do your homework first (there are no shortcuts, read, read some more, and keep reading until your eyes bleed), you run the risk of soft bricking your shiny new toy at best (and having to live without it until you fix it), or hard bricking it at worst, resulting in you having to pay Samsung to fix it.
Every rom or kernel I've come across on here has had absolutely simple installation instructions normally in the first post of the thread.

grr so using odin the way that the guide you linked said and downloading the kernal the way you and the guide said and following it I.E. booting odin and the connecting phone to the comp in download mode i get the line from odin "<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 0)" and it wont show anything when i connect the phone yet when the phone is connected in normal mode it will show me some info in the ID:COm area, am i doing anything wrong? i tryed to post into the guide but i wont let me >.>
1) In settings/about phone what details do you have ?
2) Which kernel did you download from the CF Root thread ?

ok sooo, baseband version is I9100TDUKJ1 thus following what i read i downloaded "CF-Root-SGS2_XW_LUX_KJ1-v5.0-CWM5" from the site
OK. Two ticks for that info.
So. You need to unzip the tar file from the zip you initially downloaded. Do not further unpack this. It must be the tar file you flash in Odin.
Fire up Odin. connect a USB cable to your phone, then plug it into a USB port. You must have 0:[port number] in the first panel in Odin directly under ID:COM on the left hand side in yellow. Keep trying different USB ports until you get this. This indicates Odin recognises your phone.
If it doesn't, you need to download Kies so you have drivers installed. If you do need to do this, make sure you kill Kies in task manager as Odin won't work with Kies running. We're only after the drivers.
On the other hand, if Odin recognises your phone as per the 2nd paragraph, click on PDA & navigate to where you have the unpacked CFRoot tar file & select it. From here, click on start & let Odin do it's thing. If it's successful it will show pass highlighted in green in that panel under ID:COM on the left hand side & the phone will reboot. Pull the USB cable & your phone should now be rooted.
To get rid of the yellow warning triangle when it boots, get a jig from eBay (search for Samsung Galaxy S2 jig or similar), they only cost a few bucks & can be handy if you ever need to return the phone for warranty service. There is another method in the CFRoot kernel thread to get rid of the triangle, but I prefer the jig.

ok so when i do this when its booted in normal mode it will appear in odin and be in the left box when i get it into download mode (start it holding vol down home) it wont show up in odin, does that mean im doing it wrong OR i am meant to do this in normal mode?
If you'd read the CFRoot thread you'd know the answer to this question.
6th instruction/bullet point - "Put your phone in download mode" :-/

yeah thats why im confused because when i do it in download mode it wont pick up the phone, does that mean im missing kies drivers? coz i can only get the phone to show up in odin when its in norm mode
ok so removed then reinstalled the drivers and was able to pick it and the install worked =D woot
So you got pass in Odin and you get the yellow warning triangle when the phone boots ? To check you have root (you should have), get Root Check Basic from the Market if you want to be absolutely sure.
Also if you boot into recovery mode (volume up/home/power buttons held simultaneously when the phone is switched off), you should get CW Recovery.
If you install Ti backup or any other app that requires root, if these work then you can be sure the phone is rooted OK.

ok so did that and then was able to install the new ROM, it froze for a bit and i thought that i bricked it but it works and its soooo much faster! thanks for the help only thing now is to fix the yellow triangle on startup! THANKS SO MUCH!
No worries Get a jig to get rid of the triangle/reset the flash counter & you'll be set. If you find the jig doesn't work, you're using firmware with the new "locked" bootloader. If this happens, flash the old bootloader from this thread (there's a paragraph in bold red text about halfway down & a link to download it) in the PDA section of Odin & the jig should work.
So far as installing other roms/kernels go, as long as you follow the instructions to the letter (some require flashing the rom twice in a row without wiping like CM for example), you shouldn't have too many problems/shouldn't brick it.
First thing you should do now that you've rooted it/installed another rom is to make a Nandroid backup in CW Recovery, then you can get something like Titanium Pro & backup your apps & so on. Good practice is to make a Nandroid backup before your flash a new rom/kernel, that way if anything goes wrong, you can restore your previous setup in a matter of minutes with no harm done.
Also, get Hellcat's kTool from the Market & backup your EFS details ASAP. Keep a copy of on your external SD card (if you have one) and also keep a copy on your PC/external drive/or a CD/DVD/USB drive. These basically contain the IMEI of your phone & allow it to work with the network. Occasionally people find the EFS details get fried for various reasons and this can mean your phone no longer works with your network provider. Obviously if you have a backup and this happens, you can restore it.

// edit // - just noticed I posted this in the i9100 thread, I'm sorry if someone can move this please.
Ok, so I rooted my Galaxy s2 last night and it went well, except I put a 9100 on it and my search/back button stopped working with any ROM i put on it. So after trying 20 different roms I went back to a stock ROM I downloaded.
Everything works well, and now i'm on a rooted kernel, except I cannot get into recovery/download mode by doing the 'button dance' anymore. The only way for me to get into recovery mode is to boot my phone up, use the widget "reboot widget root" to boot into recovery/download. Lets say I soft brick my phone installing something, I won't be able to boot into recovery since the OS isn't booting.
Any advice?
Thank you
I suggest you do a complete wipe for your phone and reformat the internal sdcard to get rid of any issues from flashing roms that were not suitable and then reflash with your preferred rom.
Since you have basically reset your phone everything should work properly now.

You lost the buttons because the rom you flashed contained the secondary bootloader for the I9100, which has different button combos. There are a couple of paths you can take. You can flash back to stock including bootloaders, and start over. Or you can first flash the I777 secondary bootloader using Odin, which will fix the button combos, and then use CLockworkMod Recovery to flash an I777 kernel. You might have to hell raise that rom. At that point you should be fixed.
You can get the files you need from the Download Repository, and the kernel from the development section. See the link in my Signature.

Ok, so it's been a while since I posted this thread. Since then, I've gathered the courage to attempt a re-flash. I've reflashed using ODIN and a different bootloader. Got that all taken care of and found myself a good stable copy of jellybam with CM10. Been using that for a while pretty successfully other then the battery life being sucked out and a couple random reboots.
Got rid of the SGS2 today and got myself an SGS3

You might've had the stock from the 9100 still in your phone so you shoot clear cache, and factory reset your phone and then flash the stock ROM again. Hope this helps.

I have the Korean SK Samsung Galaxy Note. I tried to root it tonight using the galaxy note II dev kit (was that my first mistake?) I picked the model number closest to mine and did everything as recommended. I got up to the Odin tool and followed those directions to a tee, but after that it just got stuck on the Samsung logo and wouldn't go anywhere after I closed the Odin tool.
I got the bright idea to hold the power button and the top volume buttton to hard reset. Now it is stuck on a drained battery screen with the loading logo just frozen in the middle of it.
Help?

what happens when you pull battery?
can you get download mode?
ALWAYS check your "Super Everything Thread".... it's in the General Forum. post#3 deals with Korean model
flashing wrong firmware usually results in brick. if you can get download mode, from what I understand, your OK.
go to super everything / rooting / read / read / read............I thought d/l mode was vol down and power. could be wrong.
follow instructions and let us know what happens. nothing worse than offering advice and not knowing if you helped.
Thanks for the advice. I did finally get into download mode but I can't really figure out what to do now. I think I just want to go back to stock. I tried doing it through KIES but that isn't working. If I use Odin, will it work?

don't let one bad experience ruin it.
not many are willing to follow the advice. I know your new here. the advice is always read, read, read. feel as confident as you can in what you are doing. it took me the better part of a month to work up the courage to flash anything.
first thing.............get rid of the Note 2 file that you flashed. don't need to go through that again.
read super everything again and again if needed. get all the files you need together. walk through the processes in your head.
you should have Odin opened up when you go into D/L mode. wait for phone to register "com #?"
make sure you run Odin as "administrator"
go slow..........its a marathon not a sprint. whats you hurry.
check Youtube for a tutorial......make sure everything is for YOUR model

Odin is the best and easiest way to return to stock, but you still have the same process to go through
Okay I tried to flash stock with Odin through download mode and everything seemed to work perfectly. It boots past the Samsung logo but NOW it gets stuck on the spinning T (I think it's a Korean thing) that is floating in space. Ugh, this is so frustrating.
I just want to get my phone back to normal at this point...

the T may be a Korean thing??? couldn't tell you for sure.
I may have gotten stuck at a similar point with my model.
I think 1 time I ran the Odin again and maybe another time I pulled battery and rebooted. but you have movement. we have had some files lately that just take longer to completely boot up.
patience
How long are you waiting for the spinning T to go away? It may take several minutes. Give it some time. And you are trying to install the stock SHV-E160 ROM and not something close?

I'm trying to install the 160S rom from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1899200
I've left the spinning T for about 20 minutes. SIt flashed okay in Odin but nothing is moving forward. I keep reading about the Tegrak rom and Clockwork recovery but I don't really know what those are. Should I try to read up more on that and try to that?
I'm not sure how that would work. I never saw or installed a rooted ROM using odin. I would think you would need a custom recovery first since all versions of superuser require it. Just guessing. So you have the E160S version? Try to use google to find a 100% stock (non rooted) ROM to install using Odin. I tried to search myself and found many links but was unable to read because of the different language. Maybe you will do better.
Also what version of odin did you use? Try to use the latest version 3.07
Root and recovery have nothing to do with each other.
You can be rooted with stock recovery,
Or have a custom recovery without root.
I've released a pre-rooted custom Rom .tar for use from going from bones stock to that Rom.
Not saying this isn't broken, just that it's doable.

Hi I tried to root my phone using this method ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1504218 ) and it left my phone stuck on the reboot. I then tried to flash the stock kernel via odin, and when that didn't work I flashed cwm via odin and then a rogers kernel through cwm and it is still stuck on the rogers logo.......?
could someone help me......?

I see your post count and realize you cannot post in the development section yet. that should not however stop you from reading. maybe you have but you may not have read the whole thread. i know that may seem like a daunting task, it is for me. so what I o is go to the most recent post or last page and start reading backwards. that way I get the most up to date information even on an older thread as you are referring to.
if you did that you would have seen a post from AGOATTAMER.

this is also the method I used. believe me, if I can pull it off, anybody can.
more tips..............
make sure you have all the files you need
rehearse the process
I know it sounds crazy, but these phones aint cheap and if you mess it up, can be pretty screwed.
so what is more valuable???? your phone or acting crazy and talking to yourself for a few minutes.
if you can still get download mode, your good, no brick
good luck
You flashed an older incompatible kernel with a newer ROM, but I guess you know that now. Flash the stock ROM found here using odin.

Go into recovery after install and do a factory reset. Then start over. Many have used the link that captemo has mentioned. There are newer versions of recovery than the one listed on that site but it will get you rooted. Look at this thread also. Since you are installing the stock ROM via odin you will not have to deal with the script mentioned here.

Just flash twrp with Odin, don't reboot into android, not directly into recovery after the flash finishes...
In recovery wipe data/factory reset.
When you go to boot it'll see you're not rooted and ask if you want to.
The easiest method to root.
