[Q] Xperia Ray - bricked after 2.3.4 update - Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini, Mini Pro, Xperia Pro, A

I have two Xperia Rays, both with unlocked bootloaders and identical firmware. Yesterday, I installed the Gingerbread 2.3.4 OTA update on one of the Rays, which worked fine.
This morning, I performed the update on my second Ray. During the update, however, the phone suddenly stopped working. It did not respond to button presses anymore and wouldn't start or reboot, not even after a battery pull.
I noticed that the phone now seems to be in some sort of permanent download mode. The green led is on while connected to a pc. When connected to the charger, it doesn't show charging progress anymore. Fastboot mode (blue led) doesn't work.
I then tried flashing the generic 4.0.1.A.0.283 firmware using Flashtool, which was successful, but the phone still doesn't start. The update service of the SE PC companion recognizes the phone but says it cannot update until the phone is fully booted.
What could be wrong and is there any way to fix this without sending the phone in for repair?

You shouldn't ever update OTA with an unlocked bootloader for that exact reason.
Did you pull out the battery just to make sure that it is totally switched off?
Follow this:

Read the getting back to Stock ROM section of the post.
Good luck.

The fact that the other Ray (also with an unlocked bootloader) could be updated OTA without any problems made me think that with the Ray, FOTA-bricking was no longer an issue...
Anyway, I just got my phone back to life using the FlashTool/FOTAUnbrick fix.

boot / battery problem

Hi everyone
yesterday I bought a X10 (it wasn't brand new)
I turned it on and it asked me for settings (language, time, etc) (yeah it's not new but they changed the rom before sell it to me)
I worked with it for like 10-15min and I got a big vibrate and it turned off. I pluged it into the charger, there was an orange led for 5min and then nothing, when I tried to turn the phone on I saw SE logo and it restarted. I plugged it to the charger, nothing again, not even orange led
I took it to a store and they shocked the battery, i came back, turned it on, it booted ok everything was fine,I plugged it again to full charge. orange led for 1.5h and then green led.I worked with it a short time then turned it off to put the sim and sd card in
when I turned it on it booted till lock screen and rebooted. again SE logo then boot again
it sometimes boot till lock screen sometimes only se logo and reboot
when it goes to lock screen I see antena has red x on it, i thought maybe that's the problem, i removed sim and sd, still the same
Please please please help me
ps 1: I can't connect it to the pc, I tried but when pc wants to recognize it and install drivers, it stops and says "not successful"
Have a look in the dev section for flashtool (there's a tutorial in the q&a section), look in the firmwares sticky in the dev section and download the firmware for your region. I suggest you pick a generic firmware. Now use flashtool to flash the firmware to the phone.
This should solve the problem.
thank you Frosty for fast answer
but my problem is my pc dosen't recognize the phone
flashtool works even without drivers?
Flashtool works in flash mode. If you can't get your computer to recognise the phone when it is powered on, it should still recognise it in flash mode. If not, there is an option in flashtool to install the drivers.
Sent from my x10, rocking Wolf's 2.3.3 + DooMKernel, overclocked to 1.2 GHz...
good, so I think I still have a chance to fix it
btw, now I have stock 2.3.3 installed
which rom do you recommend? should I install 2.3.3 again or downgrade to 2.1?
I want it to support farsi
X10i_3.0.1.G.0.75_CUSTOMIZEDARO-ARO GENERIC 1241-1846
is right?
You could do 2.3.3 or 2.1. It shouldn't matter.
As for Farsi support, 2.1 supports more languages than 2.3.3 I think. I just checked the list of available languages on my 2.3.3 ROM and Farsi isn't listed. 2.1 might support it.
You could always try both to see which one better suits your needs.
That firmware you have is 2.3.3, by the way.
thank you so much frosty
I asked if i could install 2.3.3 because now have 2.3.3 and i have this problem. installing same version will fix it?
and one question about baseband
should i download one or it comes in firmware pack/zip
if I have to download it, how do I know which one?
Your're welcome.
Oh, in that case, you should be fine.
The baseband is included in the firmware file.
I'm facing a weird problem
I can't turn my phone on, I've been told to try flashtool and install a new rom
my old rom was 2.3.3
I downloaded flashtool and X10i_3.0.1.G.0.75_CUSTOMIZEDARO-ARO GENERIC 1241-1846
first time I tried instrudoction in second post in this topic. it seems flashtool recognized my device and startet flashing but after a few min it said flash aborted
I wanted to try again but this time even before i connect the device to usb cable, flashtool say flashing start and nothing happen
I also tried SE update service, it downloaded the rom and it seem it worked (second green bar went to the end and said disconnect phone and restart)
I restart the phone but it reset after SE logo, sometime it boot till lock screen and reset again
Please help me
Sorry to say this, but you might be out of luck.
If re-flashing stock couldn't fix it, your issue may be a hardware problem.
Do you have any sort of warranty? If it's second hand, you probably don't.
You could try taking it to a Sony Ericsson service center and see if they can do anything.
omg
I'm officially beeeeeep
thanks anyway Frosty
btw, pc campanion and se update service do something different
is it possible that pc companion can fix it?
Well you could try. Couldn't hurt.

[Q] OTA Update failed....I can't flash latest stock firmware on Xperia Neo

Hi everybody,
First of all, if I am in any way repeating something written somewhere else, I am sorry but I am quite newbie here and, even if I searched around this forum, I couldn't find any info about my specific problem.
This said, to the problem!
I have an Xperia Neo (europe) with 2.3.3 Android and yesterday I was signaled of a OTA update available. I then switched on Wifi, connected the phone to the power cable and started the update. After downloading everything, the phone rebooted and showed me an updating screen.
After a while, though, the phone turned off and....well, it didn't turn on anymore!
No sign of life from the battery led either!
Now, after some stunned panicking seconds, I started googling and came at this thread:
http://www.techofweb.com/technology/recovering-bricked-xperia-flashtool.html
and downloaded the last version of Flashtool from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=920746
and the latest stock firmware ( MT15i_4.0.2.A.0.42_GLOBAL.7z ) from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1258723
....I tried to flash the firmware with FlashTool and the operation completed, but when I try to turn the phone on now I just see a quick green blinking of the power led and then nothing else.
I tried to take out the battery, and also tried to flash an older (2.3.3) firmware, but the problem didn't go away.
Now, the phone is in warranty, not rooted and everything....I could bring it to Sony, but it would take 15 to 30 days to them, so I just wandered if there was anything I was doing wrong and that, if corrected, could save me a lot of time and efforts.
Thank you guys a lot!
Bye!
you downgraded from 2.3.4 to 2.3.3 ?
If so then you get 0% battery issue... Search about it in this forum

thanks in advance...
Try reading the previous post in this thread?
I'd be surprised if flashing firmware with Wotanserver won't fix it. Just go to wotanserver.com, follow the steps and flash.
Before u flash using flashtool or wotanserver, makesure u hold the back button while connect to usb until the green LED appear.

[Help] Bricked Xperia X10 I mean Really Bricked

Hey guys i've a problem with my x10
So one night i was playing with it than the other day the phone would start
so i thought yeah right might be the battery or something. i took it to my friends x10 it was with 87% charged so i exclude this
Than i tried to flash with flashtool a new kernel and i get stuck at 9% or 15% depending on the kernel i use.
With SEUS it starts to repair but it says. No new updates avaiable after a few moments.
Some information regarding my phone
Unlocked Bootloader
FXP KERNEL
MM TEAM MIUI V4
The phone vibrate but doesn't start or load the kernel.
What do i do?!
Srry for my bad english
Thx in advance
Usrle flashtool to reflash kernel or firmware.
already did but i get stuck at 9% or 15% flashing the kernel
I'm downloading a full generic rom x10a
having similar problem
Hi, I had similar problem as well
X10i running FXP CM7 suddenly just wont boot n charge after I turn off the phone
it wont boot after flashing anything (firm or kernel) except the official firm
now that I end up with a cap R bootloader but flashtool claim that bootloader is rooted
do I still keep the bootloader unlock?
i guess you have a locked bootloader since the original firmware is loading just fine even tho rooting has nothing to do with the bootloader it self. i'm only guessing.
I'm stuck at. Flashing Loader
I bricked my phone last week and it got stuck in a boot loop.
I downloaded the x10a generic Stock ROM and flashed it via Flashtool and it worked like a charm.
Hope this helps.

But that way you weren't at a brick point.
You get brick when u get those 3 blink red LED and the phone doesn't do anything
By the fact that your phone were able to load the kernel. i guess
same problem repeat
Hi, just confirm that the bootloader remain unlock as long as the flashtool claim its ROOTED
had you try other than official 2.3.3 ftf?
because I just got the same unable to boot problem repeated again
this time cant get boot on even stock 2.3.3 firm
but I was able to boot up and charge on 2.1, then get root, recovery and kernel (w/o unlock bootloader again) and go straight to custom ROM with no problem

Anyone?
guys?
you said your phone is "bricked"
I'm not sure if you know what that means.
If you say you've bricked your phone then no one can help you.
A brick is a brick. It doesn't matter if it weighs a few kgs or a few hundred grams. A brick can't receive phone calls.
And your phone isn't even a normal brick... You wrote that it's "really bricked"
Are you building a house anytime soon?

The red led blinking rapidly three times means the battery is "out of juice".
I've said it earlier: Several X10 devices have reached an age, where battery failures are fairly common due to charge cycles and/or age. Specially if one got it just after the launch.
Anyhow, what you can do, is let the device charge "blindly" for a while, and a while I mean for half an hour to a few hours. Then it should, out of the blue, jump into "active" charging (With the battery screen showing offline charging)
If this doesn't happen you might have to charge the battery externally.
...or even replace the battery.
-"Why?", one might ask.
Reason is that the flash mode only works with a charged battery.
If it empty, it won't engage the flash mode at all. Stupid design, yes, but that is how it is.
Worst thing is, that the battery does deplete/discharge while in flashing mode. That is why it's so important it's fully charged and fully working, before one engages in flashing activities.
See this post for more information about this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1642154

Well, if the battery issue was fixed, and you're sure the battery is fully charged, then try this: (Quoting from my other post)
I've charged/replaced the battery, and are having trouble with starting up. Earlier flash failed. Now what?
Don't worry. It's pretty darn hard to truly brick this device. Even if the screen remains black, there's still hope.
Once that the battery issue has been dealt with, you can move on:
Download the latest Flashtool and the proper global firmware (FTF-file) for your device from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...ight=flashtool
1: Extract/Install the Flashtool to a folder of your liking.
2: Copy the ftf-file to the "firmware" folder in the Flashtool folder you just created above.
3: Start Flashtool. Click the Bolt icon (flash). A Window appear. There, choose "flashmode". Cllick OK.
4: A new window appears. In the list on the left, choose the Generic firmware you downloaded and copied into the "firmware" folder. Should have a similar name as the file itself. (Or manually open the ftf-file from the "..." icon on the top right.)
5: Hit "OK. Follow the instructions you get on the screen:
1 - Unplug the device.
2 - Power off the device. (Unplug and replug the battery to be sure it really off, and not stuck in black screen)
3 - Press the "back" putton, and hold it down while performing the next task.
4 - Plug the device into the computers USB.

Hi @almomdegal,
if you try flash using another full charge batt n its not work, I think this forum is no longer works for u anymore.
I own a faulty X10 as well, random shut down (no warning at all) then wont boot n charge
reflash it, revive for few days and dead again, and reflash....
now it is really dead, no problem appears and it show flash successful and it just wont boot or charge but vibrate non stop
I just send the phone to service center and the board need to be replace
so its time to send to the real professional to solve it, coz this problem ain't software downloaded from internet can solve anymore

Dead LWW after update

Hey, I'm in some trouble and I need some help please. Few hours ago I saw notification on my LWW that there is an update available, after agreeing and everything the phone shut off and now I can't turn it on. When i press the power on button the LED blinks once green and nothing. My phone was rooted and had some mods on in. Could this be the reason. After few searches I tryied to flash it with few older firmwares but nothing changed.

Download stock firmware and flash it via flashtool
Are u sure battery is not empty?
Battery was half empty, also I think bootloader wasnt unlocked, I tryied update OTA. After searching a bit more i did "6. Turning the "brick" into a smartphone" from the first aid topic and it worked flashed with older firmware and updated with seus to latets. All working now thanks.

I can hardly undrstand your English.
did you try to flash the stock using flashtool?
shutdown your phone, and hold on volume down while connecting phone to pc.
you will see the led notification lighting in green.
flash the stock after you place it in firmware folder.

Use flashtool to flash everything from the same version of firmware, meaning baseband, kernel, and stock ROM.
After replacing the Display i flashed the same software "android 4.0.4" that was already on the phone for the last year. The phone worked then for 2-3 days fine. The Batterie was empty and i put it on the charger then i tried to start the phone and nothing happens i just can see the sony logo.
Story abaut the phone:
I bought it for maybe a year ago with android 2.3.4 i flashed it with android 4.0.4 then i used the kernel 4.0.3 to get root access. Then i flashed the kernel 4.0.4.I deleted Facebook etc.all the apps i didn't want to have on the phone. Then I used the phone for a year I bought a new one and my girlfriend would have my Ray so i decided to repair the display and make new software on it because she want facebook etc.
