FD up my phone - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have been on Simply Stock for awhilenow and wanted to try MIUI. I odin back to stock and after that my screen is black. I cant get into DL mode either. HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have you tried using a download jig? It may help

My phone wouldn't turn on at all once, I mean NO LIFE AT ALL! I thought I was screwed but I kept trying Download mode and eventually counted out in my head about how long it normally took the phone to boot and time when I would normally let go of the power button. I was amazed but it werked! I can't remember but I don't think I even saw the yellow triangle with the shoveling android. I mean the phone was totally dead to the world. The only way I knew I was in download mode was that it connected to ODIN and I saw the little yellow bar.
Good luck!

I came up with the Vibrant UnBrickable Mod just a couple of weeks ago. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1277056
This mod lets you upload "Download Mode" from any situation. Give it a try, or send it in for JTAG. If you need help, send me a PM.

Its hard to say what the possible cause could be, it could range anywhere to bad file downloads for what you were using to unbrick ( I assume you were using odin) all the way to hardware failure. I personally have never had that problem but if for whatever reason you aren't able to get your phone working again complain to samsung as it was their software that messed up your phone.

thats true ive already tried complaining to tmobile but samsung would say the same thing because i bought the phone off of ebay so i dont have any warranties i really hope that this method u showed me can help
This method will get you back to stock. IF you want to update through minikies, then you will probably have to update to Ji6 first after doing this But this will resolve your problems
1. Download Eugenes 'Froyo that does not brick' file.
2. Extract the files.
3. Open Odin, plug in your phone, then put it into download mode.
4. load the PIT file in appropriate area.
5. load the .tar file in the PDA area.
6. DO NOT check 're-partition'.
7. Click start, let it finish. Your phone will load and reboot into stock recovery. It will error out again. DONT panic! This is what's supposed to happen.
8. Now, pull your battery.
9. Load the JFD rom for the vibrant'.
10. Extract the files.
11. Once again, open Odin, plug in your phone, put into download mode.
12. Load the PIT file into the appropriate area and the .tar in the PDA area.
13. THIS TIME you want to check the 're-partition' box.
14. Now click start, let it finish, and this time your phone will load up just fine!
15. Then, root the phone and you can flash your new Rom.
doing this method will get everything back to normal and the phone will work just like it did right out of the box
also i would like to add that i have been trying odin i havent got any sleep at all trying to fix this phone ODIN SUX and im a bit upset that ive tried this over and over and it does work..
it wants me to get into usb debugging mode how do i do that if i cant get the phone to cut on?/
sigh now i got red text and the phone wont go into download mode again can anyone please help mee??/
Also, you will need to pull the sim and the sd card 1st before Odin back as long as Odin recognizes the phone you are ok, if Odin gives you problems you may want to try heimdall it works the same but sometimes just using a different program helps.
mr okal can u pls send me links to your method pls idk where to get the files

hold vol up and power only from a powered off state. this should bring you to a screen with red-orange writting. from there hold down vol up\down and power and that should bring you to dl mode. from there you need to use eugenes froyo that doesnt brick.
ive tried that already idk if i have the right eugenes froyo file but i got the phone to turn on and it does exactly what i told u guys it boots up and everything is ok except usb mode and my computer doesnt recognize it at all then once i turn the phone off it doesnt come back on unless i try the unbricking method all over again
it also whipes everything i had saved away.. Can someoen pls assist me with this?
i called samsung they offered to fix it because i have a warranty but there has to be a way to fix this at home i need my phone now to be honest. samsung will take forever to fix this and ship back..

***head desk*** you need to odin to stock jfd not unbrickable froyo. You ccan flash eugenes stuff after you go back to stock 2.1 . Use the links I provided earlier for odin then use the steps others have listed to get into DOWNLOAD mode. Then flash with odin

Ok I'll walk you through this. First download vibrant tool box
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=954509
Next pull battery. hold both volume buttons and plug in your usb cord. This should put you in download mode. once there choose flash stock in tool box and it will walk you through the steps to flash stock back on there. Once done you can use it to root your phone and flash whatever custom ROM you want.
If you need more help PM me. I'm not as big of a noob as I use to be =)
forgot a step download odin http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=821625
Then do as I said with the battery and toolbox =)
yeah i have tried odin and it still gives me the black screen with lower buttons lite up.

u might b doing something wrong because i had the exact same problem and they told me to odin and i didnt know what was that and they guided me and its really simple..... jst open odin...... get your fone in download mode... choose the PIT file and then the PDA file and select them in the right place..... but before you do all of that check if your fone is regiterd with a yellow box on ODIN.. once the box turns yellow it means that your fone is connected then hit start once you selected the appropiate files and then it should b doing its job... thats all i do and it never fails me..... if you think you dont have the right files ill email them to you so u can download them and put them in there.....
Ok thanks. Really hope i have not taken the phrase BRICKED to a new level . LOL

hmm sounds like it may be, what was the most recent .Tar you used?
the ones you needed were
512.pit
T959UVJFD.tar
What. Tar files were you using? Did you verify the md5? Any lights when you charge, anything? Remove the battery and try again.

If you'll look down at the bottom of your phone it has 4 buttons that "light" up when you touch them
It shouldn't be 100% brick unless if u had damage the bootloader the worst brick u could probably have is hard brick.

Do the lights turn on?
Tried charging it?
Is anything, anything at all on the screen?
If you even get a little flash screen on your phone, it can probably be fixed.
If nothing happens, you MAY want to try a jig, not sure if those work for hard brick.
Or send to tmobile for replacement...
I've sent in my second vibrant just the other day, the phone randomly heated up and shut down (i keep that phone closest to stock so it wasn't me screwing with the kernels etc)
I was in the same situation when I flashed the GB bootloader without unchecking the reboot checkbox. To get it back, I removed the battery, hold vol up + vol down + power, launched odin, plug the usb, and slide the battery in. By the way, I did that with my two hands and 10 fingers.

I'd suggest to anyone ever having an issue of not being able to get back into download mode to buy a jig (you can usually find one for less than $10)
I got one and have used it a couple of times.

I Think I'm Bricked...

I think I've bricked my Galaxy S II.. I got it yesterday and tried to flash 2.3.5. When I was flashing with Odin, the program went unresponsive and crashed. There was nothing else to do but take out the battery.. I shouldn't have done it, but I did. And now it won't turn on at all. I've tried the 3 button method, for download mode, and a jig from my old i9000. Nothing has worked. The screen wont even turn on. I don't know what to do... Help Please??
you need a jtag.If it wont go into download or recovery its gone.
What do you, Jtag? I've got a usb jig, does that work? Or are they the same thing?
*What do you mean
aren't jigs phone-specific?
Any new info on this? Did jtag worked or whatever. I keep eye on this thread but looks like OP disappeared. Genuinely curious what happened with the phone.
Hmm .. very wierd that phone wont turn on ... i have broken Odin flashes purposedly many times myself but always I can get back into it ...
You could try power drain ... remove battery ... press power on button for 10 seconds (WITHOUT BATTERY IN) ... now put battery back in and try to go into Download mode.
Sorry but i got busy with other stuff but wanted to explain to him about the JTag.Its a special box called a RiffBox JTag and what it does is basically wipes the motherboard/bootloader and in most phones repears the bootloader aswell of a fully bricked phone so it can be put into download mode again letting you re-flash via Odin and thus saving your phone.A little miracle that means no more bricked phones. There doesnt seem to be that many around and to buy they aint cheap at all but if you can find a dealer or a phone shop who has one they can do it for you.For example.I bicked my phone and was going to buy the box on ebay.es imported (in spain there isnt any for sale) for 160euros complete or 140 without cables.Searched this site:
http://www.jtagbox.com/riff-jtag-bo...s-unbrick-bricked-phone-riff-box-owners-list/
and found a shop in Barcelona who did it for me for 35euros plus postage "BARGIN!!!!".If you search youtube and google for RiffboxJtag in your country you should find someone with a unit willing to help out or check the link ive given as it has a list of users worldwide.
EDIT:A jig is not a JTag.A jig will boot your SEMI-BRICKED(phone showing some kind of life ex.classic icon of phone/arrow/computor,menu and back arrow lights work e.t.c.) phone into download mode.A FULLY-BRICKED(dead,no signs of life.wont start.no download, recovery, lights nothing.DEAD!!!) phone needs a JTag
@cooza , Thanks for that explanation and site I even found one near me, that some day might come handy.
I must ask now to further clear my doubts, this riffjtag box, like you said is able to "revive" or "unbrick" _any_ bricked SGS2? No matter how bad is it? Im kinda new around these things and trying to suck up as much info/knowledge possible, before I decide to flash/root/?brick? xD haha ( hope not for last one) my phone.

Hi.As i said before there are semi and hard bricked phones.A semi bricked phone can normally be booted into download mode with the 3 button combo or a jig and your away again. It has the usuall symbol of a phone and a PC with a warning sign in the middle of them.Hard bricked is when the bootloader is damaged and there is basically no return. You got yourself a very expensive paper-weight for the office desk. Its like trying to turn on your phone with no battery in it.Dead, gone and not coming back. Before the Riffbox the only solution was the rubbish bin or maybe change the motherboard(but a few years ago that was an extremely pricey task if possible). Now we have the box.You can screw you phone to the point of no return and still the box will bring it back to life as it wipes the motherboard and in the case of the SGS2 also repears the damaged bootloader which is what boots your phone to start with. One thing to know, and i dont know if it happens to everyone but mine came back with 2.3.3 installed but there was no recovery mode.If this happens all you have to do is re-flash via Odin a more reciente firmware WITHOUT PIT FILE and yourll get recovery mode back at reboot.Obviously youll need to plug in your phone before hand to re-install the drivers.Same with Odin.boot to download, plug in,installs, unplug, then open Odin and flash.
EDIT:yourve got my name there so if something ever happens and you need a hand to re-flash after a jtag just send me a private message. Here to help.

Thank you mate! I am getting my SGS2 this week so ive been doing alot of reading and research about everything. Thanks for your contribution and kind offer to help if ever comes to that. Very appreciated.
No worries mate.truth is its very hard to fully hard-brick an i9100.The main thing to watch out for,and its a mistake that first-time users/flashers have done,is to flash there i9100 phones with i9000 firmware by mistake. An SGS is not an SGS2 and if they are mixed you WILL hard-brick your device. Here on XDA everything is clearly marked and on their right pages so you cant go wrong if you take your time dont rush-in.But just in case you havnt seen it heres the thread:
Firmwares:

Hi, dont bother faffing with it mate, if you have only had it a day take it back and tell them it wouldnt boot after an automatic Kies update. If they cant turn it on they wont know you bricked it until it gets back to the factory and to be honest after selling 10 million of these babies they wont even bother checking it out, they'll just put it into spares or straight recondition it.
I did the same thing to my xoom, PC world couldnt turn it on so they just gave me another.

think i bricked my s2 :(

i tried flashing it and ionstalling a rom for the first time but it froze halfway through for like 3 hours so i just unplugged it and now this screen comes up...
no whenever i turn it on it gives me a screen with :
a phone .... an explanation mark in a triangle ! . .. . a computer
anything i can do?
also ive tried every button trick on trying to restore it and none of it works all of it just come with that screen. except for the download one where i press volume down home button and power

you are really not giving a lot of details here...all you are saying you tried installing a rom and then it froze halfway..
Are you rooted firstly?
If you are have you flashed CF-root kernel?
How did you try to install the rom?
More info and then more people can help you out buddy..see if you can get into recovery and restart your phone.
well... if you've tried "every" (its not like there are a lot) button combination... then just go buy a jig from ebay and force it into download mode...

Nothing from what you said would help..
He obviously flashed it with Odin, and he said he's getting a yellow triangle with a computer behind it..
From what I understood, he could get into download mode.
So just boot into download mode and flash stock ROM. That should do it.

anyone else seeing an increase in the "i bricked my phone" threads?
dont think its coincidence they are increasing after the american variants have been released. People need to check what model they have before flashing things.
OP: not saying thats what has happened to you as you dont say if you have the i9100 or not, hopefully you do.

its ok and same goes by my post as well buddy..we all been in his position one way or the other
1st - Your phone is not bricked if it show an image. Whatever image it is. The only real software way to brick your phone is to flash bad bootloader or stop a bootloader while they are being flashed. However, Bootloader are flashed first. So if your phone stoped half way, you should not have trouble too much.
Remove the battery from your phone for like a minute, then reboot your phone in download mode (vol- + home + power and when the phone light up, release power.) Then flash another rom from odin.
Also, what rom did you used ? If you flashed a rom for another phone, then you might have flashed bootloader for that phone on yours, which is bad. In this case you will surely need a JIG.
sorry im new to this whole rooting/flashing thing. i downloaded the lightning rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1095274
i have never rooted or doneanthing to my s2 before. all i did was follow the instructions on the page and thought it would be all good? it froze about a quarter of the way there in odin so i just took my phone out.
I usually find from this state I can get back to bootloader or download states
push and hold vol+ and home then power for bootloader
push and hold vol- and home then power for download
sometimes the phone can seem to freeze a little or even die (this happened to me loads on the galaxy s and once already on the s2) and removing battery sim etc or attaching the charger can jog it
however as other have said a JIG is your friend if for no other reason that even if you recover without it, custom roms up the rom count which some twitchy carriers might invalidate your warranty for, the jig will reset this
you can get them from ebay for less than £3 delivered, or there are instructions on this site for making them yourself if you are so inclined.
simply search 'galaxy s2 jig' on ebay mine was delivered today from portugal as I am way too lazy to make one and only wanted a counter reset anyway
