Set the router in a single mode, not mixed mode of b,g and n... You will find these settings in the wireless area. Keep me posted if you managed to get the problem solved

guys
my Hero cant see ad-hoc wifi networks. i am running modac's latest rom and latest radio. all ny nokias and samsungs can use this ad hoc network but only htc hero cant. any ideas? cheers
take a look at this

Tethering is using your data plan for the mobile to connect your laptop to the internet. This is great if you have a good dataplan.
I think he wants to do the oposite : use his landline (dialup, adsl, officelan, whatever) to connect his Hero to the internet. This is usefull when abroad, in many hotels you only have a wired internet connection to avoid "stealing" bandwidth.
I tried to figure it out last month when I was in the US, but there is only very limited information available for this. I couldn't get it to work.

Have a look at this thread :

But as I said, I could not get it to work myself. And it requires rooting, what I am not fond off, I don't want to brick my expensive phone.
Hello,
Is it possible (and, then, how), to connect the Hero to Wifi using a laptop?
Thanks!
i wouldn't know of a way, maybe you can do it with adb port forwarding.
you do know that the hero has wifi on its own?
Yes I do know that ;-)
I am travelling quite a bit in Asia and sometimes hotels still have internet with cables in the rooms, or, like in this place in Korea, I would need to pay per MAC address for WiFi. I know it's ridiculous. But then WinMo does that with ease.
I've looked in the forums but can't find anything on this subject. Here's my question.
I'm at my Parents house and they have one computer that's hooked up to a broadband connection. I have a laptop and they don't have a router or wifi.
Is there a way to plug my phone in and use it as a wireless router using their internet connection?
Oh and I would use my phones internet but the signal is pretty much zero in the neighborhood. Still haven't put up that cell phone tower.
I'm using NFS Rom on my Touch Pro CDMA from Alltel..well now Verizon
I am happy htc hero user for 2 days. Tmobile (uk) branded. My problems started from the very begining. My phone was able to see my router and even connect with full signal strength but connection was inactive - couldnt do anything, browser giving error like no network connection available. I did my search and found kernel might have some issues with wpa psk coding. Tried all the settings on router (even with open network) - nothing helped. Updated to MoDaCo 3.1 rom and radio updated to newest available (downgraded using goldcard to root). Now i got wireless, can connect but its kinda slow (slower than 3g/hsdpa) and signal is very weak. I cant get signal at all downstairs where htc touch hd and nokia e71 both show ab 50% ?! even if i go to bathroom signal strength drops to 30% while htc touch hd and nokia e71 got ab 70%.
Router is netgear dg834g v5 - virgin.
Any suggestions please. I really like the device and this is only but major drawback.
It has been reported a lot that the Hero does not like some wireless routers. Various suggestions include that they won't connet to those using n rather than b or g. they will say they are connected but whenever you try to download you get an error message. I have 3 routers - 2 work fine and 1 (the newest and most expensive) doesn't.
Try a search of these forums for more details.

I agree on this one. The signal is better one some routers. I have a great signal all the time when connected to my Linksys WRT54G (old but good one). At work, where we got Cisco SB Wireless-N Gigabit VPN Routers the signal drops quite often...
i really hope the title made since but if it didnt hear is what im wondering is possible to do in any way with any app. i know how to use my G2 as a wifi and usb hotspot via tmobiles blazing fast 2meg service here in louisiana but what i actually would like to be able to do is have my home charter internet from my wifi router to my G2 and from the G2 to my new desktop via usb cable (doesnt have wifi and im out of usb wifi adapters). So basically .....Netgear wifi router>HTC G2>Usb cable>Desktop. Is this even a remote possibilty or am i stuck using the 2meg (5gig limit) tmobile connection? thanks for any help that can be offered, veritasaequita
So you're essentially attempting to utilize the phone as a WiFi adapter, correct? If that is the case, I'm pretty sure you can connect to WiFi and then connect the phone to your PC in internet tethering mode.
that is exactly what im wanting to do, im gonna try it real quick. i hadnt tried it because as i recalled when wifi connects usb greys out but i could be thinking of wifi tethering doing that. ima give it a quick try and post back. thanks for lending a hand
You're very welcome
