[Q] Install CM7 ROM problem - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

Noob question.
Installing CM7 with CWM and ROM Manager, I'm getting can't mount /emmc
using internal SD with "the hard method", rooted with SOC
do i have to partition the SD card?

Dont flash CWM with ROM manager...use Odin to flash CWM kernel (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1285823). Also, dont use internal SD option, just go to install from SD in CWM and find the file...I had issues installing CM7 so let me know how it goes for you.

What the reply said. I initially had troubles trying to install from my SD card, so I just used root on my internal SD card. I flashed CM7 from CWM rather than using ROMManager, and ended up having my phone hang at boot. After some research, I discovered there's a glitch where the flash doesn't work correctly, so you actually have to flash CM7, and then flash it again right afterwards. Works like a charm for me now.
Hope this helps!

thanks for the replies both of you!
i did get CWM flashed ok...v5.0.2.3
when i'm in CWM, i disable signature checking then install from zip from internal sdcard and i get
E:Can't mount /emmc/

I think internal and external SD card are switched somewhere in CWM.

thanks! how do i fix that?

ok, yes Entropy you were right, the internal sdcard gives the /emmc error, the zip from sdcard works, and cm-galaxys2-full-75.zip starts installing then give the following
asset failed: getprop....
E:Error in /sdcard/cm_galaxys2_full-75.zip
(Status 7)
i also tried toggle script asserts

i figured it out, it was the galaxys2 nightlies from rommanager, not the galaxys2att, trying that now...

I don't think the euro GS2 nightlies work with ATT GS2, I could be mistaken though.

Thanks dan40hands,
I got it working with the ROM posted in Dev...
Doesn't look like the euro nightlies work...
Andrew

Use this one http://www.multiupload.com/73J3G4C1CV
1. Boot into CWM
2. Nandroid back-up
3. Wipe data & cache
4. Choose install zip from SD card
5. Select the file downloaded above and install
6. Repeat step 4 & 5
7. Reboot and Enjoy

Why would you have to do 4 and 5 twice. Ie install it twice?

Oddity with Cyanogenmod in regard to coming from Samsung-derived ROMs, I think involving filesystem formatting. It was the same on the Infuse. Once you're on CM7, you'll only have to do updates once.

[Q] CWM can't mount error

Good afternoon,
I am having a big problem with my white Samsung Galaxy I9100 S2. I haven't sd card, but my internal memory is 11.5 GB. So I would like to install CWM. When I root via CF-root I have CWM 4. Everything is fine and I can to install zip via recovery boot.
But when I flash other kernel with CWM 5 (with blue text) I am getting an error when I try to install zip via recovery boot. Error says that E:can't mount /sdcard/.
So where is the problem? I have tried everything: about 10 different kernels, different roms, format internal memory, use ROM manager and so on. When the CWM is 5 it doesn't work, I get an error. But when the CWM is 4 everything is fine.
I am waiting your answers.
Thank you in advance!
Regards,
MySelf
Still waiting your answers..
So basicly if you use CF-root everything is fine. Then what is the problem? Where did you get CWM 5 from?
The problem is that the CWM5 doesn't work. Read my first post.
CWM5 I got with a kernel from xda forum.
Again: the problem is that if I have CWM5 I'm getting error which is saying that E:can't mount /sdcard/ and I can't install zip in recovery mode.
Regards,
MySelf
Yes I can understand that. But why do you need CMW5?
If it comes with an other rom, I then can understand that you have no choice. But if CWM4 works, then there is no point in using CWM5.
Choose internal sdcard, not sdcard.

It comes with other rom and kernels. I would like to use other rom (not SGS2 stock) with other kernels and I can't, because I am getting error.

How to choose it? It is set by default I think, because I can't find anywhere where I could choose CWM usage internal sdcard, not sdcard.

In newer versions of CWM recovery, (such as 5.0.2.7 in Siyah kernel) after you select an option like "install zip from sdcard", there should be multiple options:
choose zip from sdcard
apply /sdcard/update.zip
toggle script asserts
choose zip from internal sdcard
On a stock ROM "from sdcard" refers to /sdcard/external_sd (i.e. a physical microSD) and "from internal sdcard" refers to /sdcard (i.e. internal storage).
Before installing zip try this:
go to mounts and storage
mount data (thats mean change it from mount /data to unmount /data)
and so on for system.
then install your zip file.

[Q] Why can't I see SD Card from CMW?

While trying to install a ROM from my SD card with CWM I am getting the message "E:Can't mount SD card" I was able to move it internal and install the ROM but I'm curious why I couldn't do the same the SD card. The card does seem to be mounted correctly because I can go to ES Explorer and see the content with no problem. It only seems to be CWM Recovery that can't see it.

when i was watching the utube videos ( of Albert ? ) . . i remember he had to 'pop the card out and back in again', and then issue the 'read sd card' command once more .... to get it to cooperate . . i am sure i remember that. did you watch the video ?
If you are "rebooting" into recovery, the sd card will often not mount. Rebooting into Android also seems to have this problem. Simply removing the card and putting it back in will solve it for Android. I'm not sure about clockworkmod. I generally just power off and then manually boot into recovery.
I popped and put back in the SD card and now CWM recognizes. However I'm still having issues.
If I load the ROM NT_stock_1.4.0_Ribbon_Root_v2 (from the lavero.burgos thread) after it says that the install is complete I see this.
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/log
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/log
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/last_log
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log
If I load the 1.4.0 stock ROM CWMrestore_1_4_0__plus_NTV16gbV4_6 then as soon as it says Installing update... I get
Installation Aborted
Something is amiss with my CWM
Which model do you have?

Well the ribbon rom shouldn't be seeing that error. You're installing the zip file correct? Maybe download it again. Try another rom like cm7 of cm9 and see what happens.
As for the cwm restore rom, that is not a flashable zip. You need to extract the downloaded file, place it at /clockworkmod/backup/ (on internal or external)and then restore it.

With the ribbon ROM I tried to take it to a place with free WiFi (since the error with not being able to get past the B&N registration due to not being able to connect to my WiFi) and get a different error. It sees the WiFi and when I click to registrator it bails with a message at the bottom that says "B-bind error." So I came home and again downloaded the other ROM (the 1.4.0 called CWMrestore_1_4_0__plus_NTV16gbV4_6) and still get the same error with that one. So I guess my next play is to try a third a third ROM but I'm not too confident that will work either. I've cleared the Dalvik cache. Should I also try clearing any other cache? I'm afraid I may clear out something I need and already kind of have myself in deep enough.
Last resort would be to reimage from an SD card but I feel like I'm so close and there must be something simple to get me over the hump.
How are you trying to install the cwm recovery rom?
Sent from my Xoom using Tapatalk
The ROM was installed by putting the zip in the root of my SD card, going into the CWM menu and using the install zip from sdcard option. I also cleared out the Dalvik cache as rcommended.
The recovery wasn't from a ROM but rather from a backup I did before trying the ROM install. It didn't work for whatever reason.
I've since punted (reimaged via SD card, rerooted and backed up again). The ROM failed again. Same thing where I can't get past the B&N registration page because beacuse my WiFi doesn't connect (Connted, testing). I did notice this time a b-bind error.
The one thing different is that my backup was successful this time as I can restore to the rooted 1.4.0 mode (WiFi works). So I don't need to start from scratch again but still can't seem to get a ROM installed.

[Q] Status 7 when installing different ROM

I don't know if anyone asked about this matter but I'm having this problem as of today. I'm on epinter's CM10 and I tried ATRICS by thehope using CWM. I didn't like the rom so I restored back to epinter's CM10. I tried to install CM7 or any GB and it went okay but when reboot my rom is still in CM10. I also flashed MIUI but failed to flash and said assert failed...status 7. I don't know what to do anymore...I tried flashing .sdf files but in no luck. Can someone help me please.
Copy CM7 zip in internal memory.
WIPE / FACTORY RESET
FORMAT /system
Wipe Dalvik Cache
Pull Out the SdCard form Slot Sdcard and then flash with CWM.
Do you try?

by internal sdcard I mean 10Gb for data, not to the memory of the root system.

Yes, I'm telling the truth, I'm using CWM recovery 5.0.2.0? I think that's the latest for atrix 4g.

In other threads see that the status 7 problem is due to the security of the boot.img

[Q] Accidently formated entire phone, now can't flash new rom?!!

Hey folks!
I've had JellyBAM v6.5 running on my S3 i9300 and wanted to flash to 6.6, but after a one time used DarkyRom (****) i had a folder called Darky that i couldn't delete. So i thought i delete everything, data, cache, and format it.
But right after i pressed format i realised that it was not that smart of me and now i got an phone i can not boot because there is nothing on it.. :/
If i go to mounts and storage I see:
unmount /efs
unmount /cache
unmount /system
unmount /data
unmount /preload
mount /sdcard
unmount /external_sd
So everything is mounted exept the SD Card.. :/
If I go to the "Install .Zip from SD Card" i can go on the internal storage and see only the folder Clockworkmods\ so i can acces it.
But if I try to install JellyBAM.zip i get this message:
--Installing: /external_sd/rom.zip
Finding update package...
Verifying update package...
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Than i get a other option menu on the top and it says:
Install Untrusted Package?
THIS CAN NOT BE UNDONE.
-No
-Yes - Install untrusted zip
-++++Go Back++++
And if i click Yes- Install untrusted zip, then I get:
Installing Update...
Installation aborted.
What can i do now?
Thanks!
ODIN... Flash a stock rom and then re-root...
You've cleaned out everything on your internal storage anyway, there should be no pics or anything there if you formatted it. What have you got to loose?

Put rom on external sd card .
Flash CWM recovery and install rom from recovery may work .
Otherwise build the rom you want into the correct format for Odin flash .

[Q] Problem finding files etc

Hi. I am trying to flash Cyanfox 2.0.2 for my s2. The problem I'm having is that I can't seem to find my zips. I've tried putting the rom and the gapps zip in both the /sdcard0 (internal memory), /sdcard1 (ext. SD card) as well as in the root folder of my phone. The only folders showing up in CWM when choosing "Install zip from sdcard" are 0 and obb. It looks like I have no option to choose between /sdcard0 or /sdcard1 inside CWM.
Can anyone enlighten me?

Thanks, but I don't wanna bother with updating CWM yet, if I can find another solution first. I haven't done done an update to CWM Recovery before, so I am clueless about that. Anyway, I found out today that one of the data pins inside the micro usb is broken, so I can't transfer using ADB.
Edit: I thought I finally had got it. I downloaded ROM Manager. I haven't done that before since I've had some problems using wi-fi on the unofficial CM11 ver I had (one of the reasons for why I'm updating). I selected "Install rom from sdcard" in rom manager, navigated to the rom, and chose to install. ROM Manager booted into recovery and showed the following error:
E:Can't open /data/media/CyanFox2.0.2.i9100.zip
(No such file or directory)

Which doesn't lead me anywhere, since it's basically the same problem that I had in the first place.
