[Q] wifi on eclipse v1.0 - Motorola Droid X2

cant post in the dev forum yet.
im having a hard time connecting to wifi on eclipse v1.0 i can get it to see different connections but it wont stay connected. any ideas?
yes... i cleared all three before installing. thanks Quinn

so it connects to a network then disconnects shortly after?

yes
it sees the network, connects the disconnects right away.
tried three networks.
after it connects it says disabled, secured with wpa

backup your apps with titanium backup. then reflash the rom. see if that fixes it. other than that idk.

redownloaded v1.0 and reflashed.
still no luck. Quinn

Try this for giggles:
Settings -> Wireless & networks -> Wi-Fi settings -> Advanced (press menu button to access) -> Wi-Fi sleep policy
Set it to "Never". This will keep Wi-Fi on at all times. I've had disconnects when it was set to anything else. Now it always stays connected without issue.

tried.. no luck. in the wifi settings screen. up top it shows scanning and disconnecting really rapidly like every second. then it gives up and disconnects. are there modems for the x2? maybe something got corrupted.
oh i switched back to 2.3.3 and it still happens.

That is exactly what mine does, if its a router with a internal battery you gave to pull it too. I think the router stores something and when you flash a rom it gets confused. Make sure you leave it off for up to 30 seconds.

That I can't answer, I can say however that rebooting the router has always worked for this issue for me, your description is spot on, and its worked for alot of other people, your post is the first post about it in a couple months
You can try power cycling the modem too, I've never had to but that might work

Anyone else notice this cool wifi setting?

A friend of mine, who also has the 3d, noticed that there was a setting in the wifi settings that enables you to set your phone to connect to the strongest wifi signal. Just go to wireless and connections, go to wifi settings, press the menu button, go to advanced, and select best wifi performance. I never noticed this and thought it was awesome since we have a ton of wifi networks at work that are better in certain spots.

I had been wondering if there was a description somewhere that tells exactly what that setting does. I always thought it ran the WiFi radio at a higher current in order to keep a better signal. Are you sure it has anything to do with always picking the strongest signal?

It's better to keep wifi connected when the screen is off as it uses less energy than the 3g radio

I'd still like to know your source for the info saying that this setting evaluates the signal from all wifi sources and picks the one with the best signal. This setting is not outlined anywhere other than to mention that it uses more battery. Is it just something you turned on and you noticed it did that... or did you read it somewhere?

Disabling "always on mobile data" will prevent you from getting push email from apps like K9 mail. Won't it? I mean, if I'm waiting for an email and I want to hear a chime when it comes in (I have K9 set up that way), it'll never come through if there's no wifi and I uncheck "always on mobile data". Correct?
Mike

If you have a spot where this would help, check it out. Mine does it at work. We have a customer wifi and a service wifi that get better strengths in certain spots and it will switch back and forth.

Someone should do a couple runs of Speedtest with this on and off to see if there is a real difference in throughput.
Also, turning off "always on data" does not stop Gmail from syncing, and it does wonders for battery life in my experience.

Correct. Whenever you turn your phone screen on though, data will reconnect and stay connected for a couple of minutes, any e-mails that were waiting to be pushed to your device will then get sent. You won't get any notifications if you never check your phone all day, but I'm usually getting a text every once in a while which I turn the phone on to reply to.
You'll get immense battery savings with always on mobile data turned off as well.

SGP4 Wifi Drop (Specific)

My Galaxy Player 4.0 drops wifi whenever the screen is off for say 15 minutes. This of course bugs me as I use it partially as a wifi phone. It works fine as long as the screen is on (either continuous use, or by acquiring a full lock from the power manager), but once it's off for a bit it drops. Is there a way around this? I've tried the usual wifi lock/keep alive apps, but to no avail. My router isn't the issue (a NetGear WGR614v9) as it does this on all others as well. Thanks ahead.

Wifi shuts off when phone goes to sleep

Is anyone else having this issue? Every time I wake the phone from sleep I see the wifi with no bars, then a second later it is full again. I found a thread where One X users were reporting the same issue. I have it set to always on and even have checked the increase wifi performance check box as well.
Also, sometimes using the bookmark widget the phone won't load a webpage despite showing a strong wifi connection, I have to turn wifi on and off to correct this
Must be an ICS thing because my Touchpad does the same thing.
On a side note, my iPhone does the same thing too.
in your wifi settings hit menu and click advanced. there is a setting to set the wifi not to turn off during sleep.

I said in my original post I had that set already to always... the mneu says "Keep wifi on during sleep" I have it set to always
Seems to be a known issue if the phone goes to sleep for an extended period of time wifi will disconnect regardless of the wifi setings. We will have to wait for htc or rom dev's to fix the issue.
If you get the Power Saver Settings app (free) from the market, you can access hidden power options in ICS. Two of which are "Manage my connection when screen is off" (which may or may not apply only to network data) and "Turn off Wi-Fi if not connected." Perhaps try those settings.
My WIFI was shutting off and it is sometimes a bit bumpy reactivating it every time I wake it.
So I tried setting that setting to Keep WIFI on always while asleep.
WIFI is MUCH more stable now when waking the phone.
However, it seems to be using up battery much more quickly too.

i was going to create a new thread... but found a 9 month old thread I previously started... I'm having the same wifi issues still.... since the recent update it has gotten worse. Often times at home I'llw ake the phone from sleep only to see the wifi is not connected.... so I am missing notifications/emails while it is sleeping.
I don't notice this problem occurring at work, so I'm guessing it may just be an issue this phone has with my router (Linksys WRT54GL)... but I'm not even sure what router settings I should change.

samsung galaxy s3 wifi not auto connect to home network

Please can anyone help.
Up till a couple of days ago my s3 would automatically connect to my wifi signal at home as soon as I walked into my house, haven't changed any thing but it no won't connect until either I reboot or switch wifi off and then back on again . Tried rebooting phone which works for the first connection but subsequently won't connect again after sleep or at least the phone not being used for a while. Also switching wifi off and back on again works but as before once wi fi shuts down it won't reconnect by just swiping the screen and taking the phone off of standby.
Hope that was clear enough lol
Many thanks Ian

Yes I've found plenty of things relating to wifi issues on the phone but none specifically to this one so if anyone could help I would be grateful.
I assume you've tried forgetting the network and re-entering the details.
Also try playing with the Wi-Fi sleep policy, in the past this has caused some problems with the stability of the connection. Settings, Wi-Fi, menu, advanced.
Also it might be on the router side. Try changing the channel on the router, and if it's dual band set it to 2.4ghz instead of 5.

Update firmware.

I cannot seem to get the WIFI Sleep to work at all. Even when set to NEVER on when asleep I can see in the battery stats that WIFI has stayed on the entire time. Any idea why this is?
can you tell us the ROM and kernel you are using (if you are using custom)? I have never had any issues with stock kernel myself.
also, did you hide your wifi SSID? in the past, it might cause some issues...

if you want another option besides backing up your data, doing a full wipe, and reloading your data, try a different kernel...easy fix that seems to fix these problems most of the time...the kernel is responsible for your wifi, gps, bluetooth, cpu, gpu, etc...so swapping it out should fix an issue like that

I tried all of those combinations but neither worked. Took the cell to a VZW store and they replaced it. Everything is good with this one, so the old was just faulty. Are you guys using any screen protectors or cases?

When this happens, go to advanced Wifi settings and check your IP. Most likely you have a 169. address and no useful default gateway. This generally happens when DLNA IP option is enabled and your DHCP server isn't fast enough for the [bad] rom settings provided by HTC. If that's the case, the just disable that option and cycle Wifi.
im having a problem as well just got my dna yesterday and it seems when its asleep for a bit i awake it and then disconnects flashes to 4g connected back to my network but i have no activity at that moment then i have turn wifi off and on to get it back
i know its not my network no other problems with over 5 other devices and never had a problem with any phone for years
My girlfriend has this issue with her DNA. They replaced it with a brand new one, same issue. We have a wireless router that has 3 laptops, another phone, two tablets plus my friends phones and tablets when they come over, no issues for anyone. But the two DNA's we have tried, do.
Connects, and then it says it is connected but stops working after a short time. Shows that it is connected but anything that requires internet sits there spinning. Disable Wifi and it kicks over to 4G and emails and stuff starts flooding in. Go into Wifi settings and turn it back on, and it seems like it keeps turning itself on and off, like it is stuck in a loop.
Both DNA's, same exact issue. BOth stock, non-root, both have had hard resets, nothing seems to fix it. Some searching on Google says that the issue, while not common, it's all that un-common either. Seems to be an issue with the phone itself.

it really isn't a big deal. If you have to return it for any reason bricking it or reverting it to stock isn't a problem and in all the years I've been working with Android, out of tens of thousands of users that I've had exposure to, I've never once have i heard of a carrier denying warranty work because of a phone being modified. they're generally just not smart enough to even know how to check if they even care to check. The only thing that I've heard about is people walking into store and telling them that the phone has been modified. In that case they will use it against you. Anyway you're better off with a third party ROM and a better kernel for this phone.
Used FXR from the market and fixed my wifi issues.

I tried it exactly how you said to, disabled the DLNA option, turned off then on my Wi-Fi, and boom, started working again. I thought my phone could have been faulty, but I bet anyone who tries this will see their issue fixed.

I'm having the same problem but the DLNA option was already turned off by default. Wifi works right after a restart and then stops working a short time later. Once it stops working, I get a blank screen when I try to view the available wireless networks, even though this screen was populated with multiple networks previously. Frequently, I get a "Process com.android.settings isn't responding" message. I had these exact issues with my first DNA and Verizon sent me a replacement. Same issues with the replacement. Anyone else experiencing this?
