Both the INT version and Sprint's version have a setting called Background Setting in the display section of the phones setting. There is three settings Normal, Movie and Dynamic. I liked having the ability to switch the contrast and saturation pre-sets when I trialed the sprint version but cannot do this on the AT&T.
Is there any way to Mod this functionality back in?
Thank you
Actually its called "Screen mode" on the international version.
I like it cause photos look 100 times better when the saturation is set to movie mode.
I went to set this on my dad's new AT&T gs2 and it wasn't there.

Is this something that could be easily added back in? I have no idea why att would remove that functionality.

First off, grovelling apologies for what is probably a painfully newbie-ish question - I am entirely new to Android phones. I have tried searching - came across this thread, for example: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1124669 - but haven't found much in the way of practical solutions yet. This may conceivably be more of an "Android question" than a "Galaxy S2 question" as well, I'm not sure....
Anyway: one of things I use my phone for an awful lot is watching videos. What I'd like to be able to do is get the the display a little closer to a properly callibrated TV - so the whitepoint should be somewhere near D65, proper white balance across the whole grey-scale, the gamma somewhere near 2.2 across the scale, primary colours not too saturated, and so on.
The main problems at the moment seem to be that the white point is pushed quite badly towards the blue, and that the green primary colour is oversaturated (this is in line with the findings in the thread above). So my question is: what can one do about this?
I've investigated the "Display" settings menu, and discovered the "auto-adjust screen power" option which (again, according to the thread above) improves the gamma (reducing black-crush) at the cost of somewhat reducing maximum brightness. I've also spotted the "background effect" option; setting this to "Movie" makes colours a bit less over-saturated, but green saturation still isn't right. And within the standard video-playing application I've got the "colour balance" set to "Warm", which helps with the blue push a little, but not enough.
Are there any other display adjustment/callibration options that I've missed? Are there any apps which allow the display characteristics to be tweaked? And are there any 3rd-party video-playing apps which allow more precise callibration of the overall colour balance without compromising playback performance?
So I was considering an AT&T version of the Samsung Galaxy S II but it does not seem to have the "Background Effect" display setting that lets one change the saturation to a more color accurate setting. I know the values for these have been investigated somewhat successfully here with people setting their own custom values. But would this be an option for the AT&T version that doesn't even have this Settings screen? Any ideas? I'd love this phone, but the color accuracy is very important to me.
Thanks!
Hi guys -
I just upgraded from the Cappy to the Galaxy S2 on AT&T. The phone looks and feels great, but I noticed the colors on the screen are not realistic in some apps. The wallpaper on the homescreen & lock screen looks amazing, but the pictures I take with the camera, and the colors in some of the game apps (i.e. Hanging with Friends) look very different. The colors are over-saturated and dark. I've never had this issue on the Cappy, and was wondering if anyone else had similar problems? I searched online and found the international version has a display mode option setting, which is non-existent on the i777. I tried using the Screen Adjuster app, but it didn't help an awful lot.
Took a screen capture with the phone, but the colors look normal there. Would need to borrow another phone or camera to take a picture...and then will post pics as a side by side comparison on what the screen captures.
Anyone else have this problem and/or know how to fix it?

I assume you are running a stock ROM - if so, I believe Samsung defaults the screen mode to "dynamic" and got rid of the option to select other modes (normal and movie) in their ROMs. Most (possibly all) of the custom ROMs on this forum add that selection option back. menu>display>screen mode.

Thanks for the quick response! Yea, I'm still on stock ROM...was thinking of rooting and flashing to a custom one soon. Will report back results of the display after. Thanks again!
Hello, guys! I had a serious issue with the slow-mo video of the G5..The problem is that when i start recording and the colors are changing non-stop..
The colors goes like the warmth go down..Did anyone else have that problem and how to solve it? Any ideas?
Unfortunetly i can't show u the video i found in youtube witch is the same problem like mine...
It's due to the automatic white balance, try using manual camera mode (there are some threads in LG G5 Mods Section that explain how to enable manual video if you don't have a custom rom) and manually set white balance, resolution to 1280x720 and FPS to 120.

Yeah, this is a good idea, but it needs root and the phone is not rooted...other idea? Because really am wondering what are the good and the bad things into rooting the phone
Any kind of modification to system apps require root. You can use other apps that allow white balance for video, such as Cinema FV-5. Even though the profe$$ional version has much more controls for color grading, in free version you can manually set and lock the white balance. From the user manual:
On supported devices you can lock the automatic white balance algorithm.
Auto white balance lock.
If the white balance is set to auto, when the toggle is active, the automatic white balance algorithm will stop running, keeping the last calculated scene temperature. Tap again the toggle to unlock it and recalculate the scene color temperature.
Tip
If you usually record clips with the white balance locked, you might find more comfortable to have Cinema FV-5 to lock the white balance for you automatically during the clip recording. To do so, activate the option Settings > Video > Lock white balance during recording

I don't remember if that app can take slow motion videos though.
For all who are not satisfied by the colors of screen,
I passed by a post on Reddit that someone succeeded to enable 3 more different Display Colors modes other than "Vivid & Natural" via adb
There is 5 screen modes in total:
0 AMOLED cinema "DCI P3 color"
1 AMOLED Photo "Adobe RGB"
2 Basic
3 Natural
4 Vivid
Go to Settings -> Display -> Screen mode and
Set the screen mode to Natural otherwise this trick won't work
Connect your phone to adb on your PC and type
adb shell settings put system screen_mode_setting a number from 0 to 4
example:
adb shell settings put system screen_mode_setting 0
Last thing to do:
In order for the changes to update, open the settings, go to display and go to the Screen mode tab and go back.
Also there is a video step by step to enable it
Finally instead of adb you can use SETEDIT App from Play store to do the same
I wonder, if someone was able to find out what colour values/settings these other modes are using, we could replicate them using the advanced settings in display options, instead of going through ADB/SETEDIT?

Do you have a screenshot
Worked with SetEdit.
Straight forward
A way to make them appear on the menu itself would be nicer and easier.
Maybe these entries are in the Floating Feature file ?
This is in others methods, google play searching SetEdit and instal and opening.Searching:
screen_mode_setting
And see pictures.
I absolutely hate the dull, non vibrant and washed colors of the S23 Ultra. Funny no Youtube "experts" talk about it, it's only "it's gorgeous blah blah blah". I think I'm going to send it back. Already miss my S21 Ultra, too bad it had a pos Exynos chip. If only the S21 Ultra had a Snapdragon here in Europe I would buy it again in a heartbeat.

I compared a printed photo with what my phone shows (same Photopro TIFF file) and to my eyes the colors on the screen where similar to the print, I didn't see any dull colors and in Natural mode is what I expect, something near to reality.
The S23U display is pretty great, if you like extra saturared colors that has nothing to do with the real image, that is another story.
