and looking at the files posted by aZuZu i can tell u that this will work on ALL BRANDED/GENERIC/REGIONAL 2.3.3 GB FWs... provided that the kernel.sin file remains same (which it will for all 3.0.1.G.0.75 FW)...
but the steps are not correct
u need to do this:
FOR ROOTING
make sure u are on stock 2.3.3 FW
enable Unknown Sources & USB debugging in Menu -> Settings -> Applications -> Unknown Sources & Menu -> Settings -> Applications -> Development -> USB Debugging
power down device
Flash -- Kernel downgrade ... [ Leave FlashTool running] --

FOLLOWING IS OLD INFO! NO LONGER NEEDED
be sure that u are using rooted stock FW... if u dont know how then read this: FOR ROOTING
FOR INSTALLING RECOVERY
how to install recovery based on this:
u can either wait for Flashtool to be updated OR do the following:
download xRecovery-0.3_GBready.zip from z's thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=859571
[OPTIONAL] if u dont have ADB then u can download minimal adb from: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13430042&postcount=25
extract the GBready xRecovery to c:\
run the following to push the recovery files to temporary directory (/data/local/tmp/)
Code:
adb push c:\xRecovery-0.3_GBready\system\bin\chargemon /data/local/tmp/.
adb push c:\xRecovery-0.3_GBready\system\bin\charger /data/local/tmp/.
adb push c:\xRecovery-0.3_GBready\system\xbin\sh /data/local/tmp/.
adb push c:\xRecovery-0.3_GBready\system\xbin\xrecovery.tar /data/local/tmp/.
remount /system using adb shell (keep screen active/unlocked to accept/allow the Superuser request)
Code:
adb shell
su
busybox mount -o remount,rw /system
now copy the files to correct location & correct the permissions (within the adb shell from above step)
Code:
cp /data/local/tmp/chargemon /system/bin/.
cp /data/local/tmp/charger /system/bin/.
cp /data/local/tmp/sh /system/xbin/.
cp /data/local/tmp/xrecovery.tar /system/xbin/.
chmod 0755 /system/bin/chargemon
chmod 0755 /system/bin/charger
chmod 0755 /system/xbin/sh
chmod 0755 /system/xbin/xrecovery.tar
done now reboot and enjoy full rooted stock rom with recovery
Trouble-shooting:
incase adb server doesnt start try the following-
try rebooting PC
exit flashtool and other adb requiring services!
preferably exit antivirus & close all other apps
Gonna try this when I get home.
Works fine.
Just rooted mine.
Thanks to azuzu and doomlord for the step by step

Hello guys,
I am pretty new to this stuff. I have just got LG P500 early this year, my friend helped me root this phone with CyanogenMod (7.1.0-RC1-Thunderg-KANG) and the Build number was SonyGenMod v1.2 Final. Not sure if this information is needed but I really want to go back to normal settings or the best settings as I don't really know how to root/unroot or update stuff.
I just want to use the updated version of Android Market. Right now, it is very annoying that I can't go online on WIFI because I can't update apps or go in Google Play. As it comes up with some errors.
Again, I'm pretty new to this stuff. I am not experienced so I need a clear step on how to fix this situation. I need your help if possible. Not sure if this is the right place to ask. Feel free to move this thread.

Firstly, forget about unrooting because nobody would dare to unroot any Custom ROMs. Or if you really wanted to unroot, install a LG P500 stock Android firmware.
And I guess you've wiped data/cache/dalvik-cache in recovery in order to get correct functioning of the ROM. Not doing that would arise problems.
Android Market (now, Google Play) updates itself when an internet connection is active in phone. I'm not sure about your Wi-Fi problem, its better to ask that in your device-specific forum.
If you really need to start from beginning :
- Enter recovery, Wipe Data/cache/dalvik-cache/battery stats
- And install the CyanogenMod ROM again (Assuming you know how to install)

And download needed driver pack from link here
and install on pc then reboot pc
Enable usb debugging mode by going to settings>applications>developer
Extract root.rar to safe place like desktop
Go to ADB folder , if you are on window 7 run cmd7.exe OR if you are using Windows xp then run cmdXP.exe .
After starting cmd7 or cmdXP, type following commands
adb devices
then
adb shell
(symbol will change to $ or #) and copy paste following command into your terminal
echo 1 > /data/local/lge_adb.conf
After doing this, Reboot your phone
Now go to root folder on desktop again, and start SuperOneClick.exe
Select GingerBreak method and press root button
Wait few seconds and its done.
If you wish update superuser app from android market.
[ Method 2 ]
In First step we need to setup ADB on our pc , to setup ADB on your pc follow this article
Install Android SDK on your windows PC , follow this guide
After setting up all things , restart your pc
Download SuperOneClick tool and install it
In adb run this
adb devices
adb shell
echo 1 > /data/local/lge_adb.conf
After that open SuperOneClick and root using pneuter.
Reboot phone and update Superuser from Market.
These rooting instructions works fine on LG Optimus One, it can have some problems while updating superuser, kept force closing, but after restart, it will work fine.
If something went wrong when trying to flash a recovery image, for example when flashing CyanogenMod or ClockWorkMod. It happened to me several times so I tried to learn to revive it without reflashing the original firmware. Note: This tutorial works only if recovery is the only one broken. (If the ROM itself is broken, then that's a subject for another tut.) In this case, the most logical thing to do is just reflash the recovery image. So how do you do it in fastboot mode? Here's how:
Symptom
You tried flashing a custom recovery like ClockWorkMod or Thunderg, or you flashed an incorrect ROM, and when you rebooted, it showed this screen:
Code:
fastboot mode started
udc_start()
and the phone stays there. When you plugin the phone to your computer's USB, it is detected and the screen has this display:
Code:
fastboot mode started
udc.start()
-- suspend --
-- reset --
-- portchange --
-- reset --
-- portchange --
You will need
1) Your PC and your USB cable for the phone
2) USB drivers for your phone (use B2C from LG).
3) Android SDK (download from here)
4) Java, required to run the SDK (but right now I am not sure if this is required to run fastboot!)
5) ClockWorkMod or AmonRa Recovery.
Here's what to do
1) Assuming phone is turned on in fastboot mode, plug it in to the USB of your PC. You will know that it is detected if you see the the lines "suspend", "reset" and whatnot on the phone's screen.
2) Extract the recovery image from the zipfile downloaded from step#5 above (e.g. LGp500-recovery-v12.img). Place the image file in the same folder where fastboot.exe is (usually in the tools\ folder in the SDK). For your convenience, rename the img file as recovery.img
3) Fire up your command prompt and cd to the directory where fastboot.exe is located. Then type the following command:
Code:
fastboot erase recovery
Once you get the confirmation that it was successful, type this:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Once you get the success confirmation, reboot the phone, or you can also type (optional):
Code:
fastboot reboot
The phone will reboot itself, and with any luck you should be able to go back to your same old Android bootscreen. Note that no settings were modified here, so this is extremely useful for those who do not want a clean slate after a fastboot nightmare.
Also, note that if this is successful, you can now boot to recovery with the usual button-combos, thus enabling you to flash ROMs and other recovery zips.
Note: On some SDK versions, fastboot may not be included. For your convenience, I have attached the fastboot binary I got from my downloaded SDK. I have also attached AdbWinApi.dll which some user reported is missing in the SDK. Place the DLL in the same folder where fastboot.exe is located.

This is the second edit. Thanks to zanakorus33 for providing the tip for modification of the file. Since .bat is not allowed to attach, I put it up as text file.
The following method is applied to both international version (P760) and T-Mobile US version (P769).
Prerequisite:
You must install LG United Driver (simply change the phone USB mode to LG mode and install PC Suite).
You must enable USB debug mode (in developers option) and "unknown sources" (in security option).
[*]You MUST disable Lookout Security (menu->applications->downloaded) and clear its data.
Download and unpack Root and Restore.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460
Are you ready? Here it goes:
Hook up your phone and choose USB LG mode.
Run Root and Restore->Runme.bat.
(7th edit Download attached modified RunMe_L9.txt, rename the extension to .bat, put the file to where the original "RunMe.bat" is, and run it as "administrator" (right click the .bat file, and run as Administrator).
You will be prompted to restore data. Look at the phone screen and choose "restore my data" when prompted. Press a key when restoration has finished.
The phone will reboot. Check the terminal window and check for "(are you rooted?)" error. If there's no error, check the phone to see "Android is updating". If so, the phone should be rooted.
Download and install busybox and SuperSU.
Done.
Happy Rooting! :victory:
First edit: uploaded modified script file (added pause command on running restore part. Press any button after the restore has finished on the phone). Change extension from .txt to .bat (you can review the whole script before renaming to examine). Put the modified file to where RunMe.bat is and run it.
Please give me feedback of this script file.
Thanks zanakorus33 for giving tips for modification
Fourth edit:
After rooting, install Voodoo Root Keeper so you can preserve root after update.

Wait...I did unrooting (even it was not rooted) with "unlock root" prior of it. Perhaps this is a key.

Didn't work. Did you create a backup of your device before rooting?
Did you wipe the device before rooting?
Could you remove root by doing a restore and try the rooting process again? I must be missing something.
It is weird that neither of my 2 L9s will sync with PC Suite on any of my computers.
I wiped the phone several times today because the mode 2 screwed up the phone.
I just don't understand why I made it work. I can send a captured pic.

Wonder if I should try this out. I am also eager to root my phone to move data to SD card. Will do as soon as I get home.

Try "unlock and root" with the same name software first (root with unlock and root and it won't go through, and then use the same software to unroot. After that, use the method on the first post and report.
Still the same, my phone reboot before recovery ends.

That is exactly what my P769 is doing. May be some T-Mobile customizations blocking this.
I just took both of my P769 devices back to the store because they were misbehaving. I have 2 fresh ones out of the box. They will not root!
Also, they will not sync with the LG PC Suite. I think there may be some issue with the stock firmware or the Suite software.
Mingkey, do you have an non-T-Mobile P769 by any chance?

I think the best solution is to install compatible clockworkmod, but ROM Manager craps out on me everytime I tried to use it, but if there's any chance (I am not a developer, sorry) to get a compatible clockworkmod, do this:
Go to ADB tools folder and copy the address to the folder in terminal window, and use the following command:
1. adb reboot recovery
2. fastboot flash recovery (clockworkmod image file)
Since there's no compatible recovery at this time, don't try.
I think there's something can be done with Unlock and Root. As I mentioned, try to root with this application and the phone should go to LG mode (or charge only). Of course it won't work, but you can use unroot with same program. After that, you can use Root with Restore and try again.
I only messed with these two root tools after the last time wipe.
Yes, the PC suite does not work for me either.

So am I to do it like this?
1.) Put phone in LG Software mode.
2.) Run root batch script and select "1".
3.) Press "Restore" on phone and it will reboot.
4.) After phone reboots press enter in the batch script window to finish script.
5.) Leave everything connected and make sure phone is still in LG Software mode.
6.) Run root batch script again and select "x".
7.) After phone reboots press enter in the batch script window to finish script.
8.) Leave everything connected and make sure phone is still in LG Software mode.
9.) Run root batch script one more time and select "1".
10.) Press "Restore" on phone and it will reboot.
11.) After phone reboots press enter in the batch script window to finish script.
Phone should be rooted now.
1.) Install superuser from market.
2.) Install busybox from market.
3.) Install rootchecker or terminal from market and check root status.
Is that it?

I used "unlock and root" first (and the phone was in LG mode and installed drivers prior of it) and ran root and unroot.
After that, I change the phone USB to charge only, disable Lookout (I suspect Lookout did something), and ran "Root and Restore/runme.bat). When I was prompted to restore data and use restore on the phone, and the phone rebooted.
The phone behaved differently and the console did not show "(are you rooted)" error and the phone updated itself.
I installed root explorer and updated supersu, and ran root explorer and I was asked to grant root access.
So far busybox and root explorer worked as it's supposed to be.
Seems the root tool used in Xperia Z is not worked in Japan version SO-03e with firmware10.1.E.0.250, just want to know anyone could provide other approach to root it. Thanks.
i had my SO-03E rooted on 3 May after upgraded to 250... using the root many android tool developed by Bin4ry.

Go to this thread and download http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2284082 (mine is wifi only ; don't know if this work with LTE device).
I updated mine to latest FW before rooting mine and have the same issue as you guys (stuck at '/data/local/tmp/onload.sh).
Downgraded and root it fine and root is retained after upgraded to Sony's latest.

when i am trying to upgrade my rooted tablet using FTF file, i remember that there is a preparation step not included above. but i found in another Taiwanese forum.
included here and please let me know if it helped.
1. make sure tablet is not connected to PC
2. settings => Xperia => USB connection
3. USB connection mode => choose MSC mode (default is MTP which might prevent the root tool to proceed)

This case is very simple to solve. When you try to install a custom recovery with your bootloader locked, the phone system detects it and give you a message of an error in security, like in your case. To solve this, you'll need to reflash your rom. By doing this, the KDZ will reflash the original recovery and you will be able to access your phone/recovery again.
Step by step:
1. You need to install fastboot drivers: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2119090
Turn off the phone and remove the battery. Download THIS and exctract it to C:/. Open device manager in windows (Rigt click on Computer > Manage > Device manager) and connect your phone without the battery to pc via USB cable. Look in device manager for a new hardware connected, right click on it and click in update drivers. In the window open, select "Search for software driver in the computer" and in the window open select insert C:\fastboot\usb_drv_windows, tick the option "include subfolders" and advance. A pop up window may appear asking you if you do want to install the driver, choose YES and the drivers will install.
2. Navigate to the folder you extracted (C:/fastboot) and double click on start.bat. It will ask you for administrator privileges, just say yes.
3. Select your phone model (2 for P760, 3 for P765, 4 for P768 and 5 for P769). It will ask you to turn off your phone and remove battery. When you done with that, press enter. It will now ask you to insert USB cable with the phone without the battery and after 4 seconds re-insert the battery. Onde you done with that, it wil return a message to press any key. In this step the fastboot drivers may be installed again. Don't worry, it's normal
4. Remove the battery again, wait a few seconds and re-insert it.
5. Plug the USB cable in the phone with the battery in and let VOL UP pressed. The phone will enter in SW Update mode.
6. Follow THIS to reflash your rom. A list of avaiable official roms of different models is HERE. Remember to only flash roms made for your phone model or you may get some issues.
7. You're all done I recommend using THIS TWEAK, the phone becomes more responsive.
*** If you flashed a JellyBean rom (V20X.kdz) you can easily root with THIS and if you want CWM recovery use THIS ONE ------ REMEMBER NOT TO FLASH ANY CUSTOM ROM WITH THIS RECOVERY BECAUSE I'M CONSIDERING YOUR BOOTLOADER IS LOCKED AND FOR THIS REASON, YOU CANNOT FLASH CUSTOM ROMS WITH CWM, IT JUST DOESNT WORK!!!
Hope it help you
It works!!

I tried this method and the offline kdz method and here is the trouble I am having.
1. With this method I do everything perfect the device shows up for a couple seconds then it disappears so I cannot go any further.
2. With the offline fix I followed the OP to the letter and when I get to the part where I click on "normal web upgrade" I open it and start the upgrade as stated in the OP and nothing. I get the retry or cancel internet warning and ignore or close it and it will not even try pushing the file.
Anyway I have tried 2 different machines to no avail I am wondering if anyone has had a similar problem and fixed it?

Just install the driver and the latest LGMobile Support Tool
Start your phone in Software upgrade mode... Power + Vol up
In the LGMobile Support Tool click on Options and then Upgrade Recovery
Put your IMEI in the option that pops up
Wait for the miracle!
It worked for me ... NO MORE LG SECURITY ERROR
