no, i did not. if you mean titanium back up then yes. i followed the instructions on briefmobile..
edit: how would that effect networks or whatever it did..?
wooooow.. xD i just pluged my phone into my computer while having motorola software update started and i have full bars now.. this is very weird.
I dont know if i should be happy or worried LOL
I think I'm having a similar issue. The network is working after unlocking but I can't add my Google account, so I'm locked out of the Android Market and Gmail etc..
I am getting the message "Can't establish reliable connection" when I try to add my Google account to the phone.
I have read that the only solution to this is to do a hard reset. If I have unlocked am I safe to do a hard reset?
My other thought was to re-root and restore the Titanium Backup I took before unlocking. Maybe the system settings I saved would fix it? However when I go reboot to Fastboot and try ADB shell it no longer finds my device (USB debugging is enabled and my drivers must be up to date if I rooted three days ago).
If the easiest thing to do is just hard reset I will do that I just need to know whether it is safe after unlocking. I feel like unlocking may have interfered with whatever the phone uses to communicate with servers but I have no clue if that is possible.
Edit: I was able to root again, had not realized ADB will not work from the fastboot screen. fastboot devices showed my phone. I got rooted, side loaded Titanium Backup and BusyBox. Now I am restoring my apps and settings, I will report back if the problem with signing into Google is resolved.

Titanium Backup Restore is done now but I am not out of the water yet. I have all of my applications back and in settings under Accounts I have all of my accounts listed now, but when I launch Android Market or Gmail both applications crash. I tried to add another Gmail account to the phone and when I click Next to begin logging in, I immediately get the "Can't establish a reliable data connection to the server" screen, along with an error dialog saying Gmail has stopped unexpectedly.
I can't tell if this means I got further or am really in the same spot as before
So... can anyone answer the question of whether I am safe to do a hard reset after unlocking and rooting?

The problem I run into when using Titanium Backup, is that it restores the app and the data associated with the app, and the data caused force closes for the market (Play in my case) and other apps. Try clearing the cache for them. (From the home screen > Menu > Manage Applications > "App" > Clear Data)

I've honestly never tried it, but hard-reset appears to be the equivalent to wiping cache (and dalvik) and re-flashing. You might try wiping your cache and dalvik cache and flashing the ROM again. Trying a "factory" restore after modifying the factory data on your phone doesn't seem like it would work.

I did "Clear Data" for Gmail and Market (that is what it is called in my applications list, but the icon says Play).
Gmail is working again! The Market/Play app still gets to a white screen and says "Loading" with the whirly icon then goes away without any information. I see another item in the application list called Google Play Services, should I clear that data as well?

You shouldn't have to. If you're seeing a long loading screen, be patient. If it shows market in one spot and Google Play in another, it's probably trying to update.

I decided to try side-loading the Google Play Store since the market is no longer used. I got the apk from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1836057.
Now it loads but tells me Authentication is Required. Please sign in. I checked the accounts in the menu and my google account is selected, so I'm not sure what the problem is since Gmail is fine with the account now.

Where did you start in all this? Were you on a custom ROM and are now trying to get back to stock? Are you on stock and trying to unlock the bootloader or root? The direction you're going will help determine what you may or may not want to try next.

I am getting help from you in two separate posts it looks like so I will just consolidate to this thread, I apologize for posting all over the place just hoping to knock this out before the weekend is over.
I started with the official Gingerbread ROM from Motorola. I rooted, then unlocked, then rooted again.
My goal is to end up on an ICS ROM but I would like to get a good back up of the stock ROM first, so I want to knock this problem out, back it up, then flash to a custom ROM. You suggested going ahead and flashing the custom rom, I am just worried about making the problem worse by doing that.
The only problem I am noticing is that I cannot get into the Play Store, and I still get the Can't Establish Reliable connection message when trying to add a Google account. However, Gmail is working now but I can't add another account. I have connected to Wifi and I am still having the problem while connected.

If you side-loaded Google Play, try clearing any cache (App Data) for it as well. I don't know why your market/play is acting up if all you did was root > unlock > root. Assuming you have flashed CWM Recovery, you may end up having to get Google Apps (usually called gapps) and installing them as a zip to correct this. If so, here are the steps:
Get them from here or browse them all http://goo-inside.me/gapps/ and get the ones you want.
Load them onto the root directory of the phone's SD Card (not the internal memory).
Reboot into Recovery
Choose the option "Install Zip from SD Card" using the volume keys and the lock button
Scroll down to gapps-gb-tegra-20110118-signed.zip (or whichever one you got if you browsed them) and hit the lock button
Scroll down to whichever one says "Yes" in the midst of all the "No"s (I think that's how they're listed)
Reboot when the install is finished. It shouldn't take more than a minute or two.

I'm going to try the Gapps install, but I am having an issue flashing CWM apparently. I follow the instructions here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1204500 but I am still not seeing Clockwork Mod Recovery. When I reboot, hold volume down, go to Android Recovery and press up, I still see the Android/Triangle/Exclamation point icon. Press volume down and up and see a blue menu with three or 4 options but none are Install from SD, so I am guessing I'm not successfully flashing CWM.
Edit: I did not delete the system/etc/install-recovery.sh file before flashing CWM. I am trying to do that then flash again, but ES File Explorer will not let me delete the file. My super user may need to be updated, but since I can't connect to the store it won't do it on its own.
I resolved the the issue with CWM thanks to Zestar in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1302423&page=16
I just have to reflash every time until I decide to go for the custom rom. I installed GAPPS from CWM Recovery but I am still having the same issue with being told i need to authenticate my account.
I got a ROM backup while in CWM as well so I think at this point I will just flash a custom rom and see where that gets me. Since I got a copy of the rom I should be able to return to this point in time anyways (could be wrong though )
Thanks for your help, I will report back once I have flashed to a new ROM and see what happens.
I didn't get this done before the weekend was up but got time tonight and flashed to the TopSmarts GingerBread ROM (it is really cool to me, a first time custom rom-er). I was able to get set up on e-mail (don't have a Gmail app loaded yet) but Play Store - which I had to side load - is crashing when I try to add an account still.
I flashed the Gapps from above after flashing the new ROM but none of them showed up when the phone booted into the rom for the first time. Do I need to do something other than install from CWM?
Edit: I flashed the Gapps from TopSmarts and rebooted and was able to get Play Store running. It had a minor hiccup and repeated the sign in process a few times but now it is updating my apps. I am happy with the world again, thank you for your help.

Glad you got it working. I've never seen the TopSmarts ROM as I am also very new to the custom ROM world. I flashed CyanogenMod 7 Nightly (I didn't know Nightly versions were beta until after I flashed it), and I love it! It took me a couple of tries to get the gapps working too, but once they worked, I haven't really had a problem since.
first tried to unlock - unlockroot.com doesn't work
nor does Z4root
nor did superoneclick
cuz it's Android 4.0.3, right?
Soooo
I did get Google Play on there, as well as superuser (big deal, moved 'em to the SD card) Google Play installed but closes immediately upon trying to open.

Have the exact same issue... Coby Kyros 7033 with no Google Play... Installed the latest and greatest download of Google Play successfully, but it just opens and then closes immediately.
What's the easiest way to get Google Play on a Coby Kyros 7033?
Google Play onto Kyros 7033
I purchased one of these tablets to play around with, and cannot install Google Play onto it either.
It will load, then it closes instantly!!
Any suggestions would be more than welcome!!
If I have posted this in the wrong area, please forgive me!!
Thank you!!
Google Play, Coby Kyros 7033 - No Root Needed
You can actually get the Android Market (precursor to the more current Play Store) on this device fairly quickly and without root. I just did this process on a friend's tablet today. He purchased it for his son for Christmas on Cyber-Monday.
The main problem, I think, is that many people are trying to install the latest Google Play APK file and it's just not supported on this device. You can get around this by installing the older Android Market.
Okay, before we begin... I'm going to assume you have everything stock and are using the stock browser for downloading the files attached to this message.
Additionally, I'm going to assume you have already created a Google GMail account and know your username and password. (You will need this to access the store later during setup, so if you don't have one yet... head over to Google and set one up.)
Finally, I'm going to assume you've first read this ENTIRE post before attempting anything.
DISCLAIMER: I am not responsible if this results in a bricked device. It shouldn't, however, because we are not modifying any essential items and we are not ROOT'ing the device. This is perfectly above-board.
---- START ----
1.) Download the files attached to this message and save them on your tablet. NOTE: This installs an older version of the Android Market, not the current Google Play store... but it still works.
Be aware, that the selection of apps is limited, but you can still work with it. For example, it does not have the original Angry Birds app. That's available in GetJar or Amazon Appstore however.
2.) Open the App list (by tapping the box made of little squares, mine was in the upper right hand corner of the tablet)
3.) Open ES File Explorer (or whatever you are using for a file manager)
4.) Open the folder where the .apk files are... if you are using the stock browser, the files will be in the "downloads" folder
5.) Run them in the following (very specific) order
**** IMPORTANT NOTE: Once you install the last file (com.android.vending) and click "Done", it will automatically launch the Market setup. DO NOT CONTINUE THE SETUP at this point!!! It will mess up the whole process. ****
a.) OneTimeInitializer.apk --> Click Done
b.) SetupWizard.apk --> Click Done
c.) GoogleServicesFramework-signed.apk --> Click Done
d.) com.android.vending.3.3.12.apk --> Click Done
**** Again, at this point... the Market setup will begin. Do not enter anything ****
6.) Press and hold the Power button to turn the tablet off. Yes, I know you just interrupted the setup process... but this step is needed so that all the apk's you just installed have been processed properly BEFORE running the setup sequence.
7.) Once you are sure it's completely off... Turn it back on
9.) After the initial Coby Kyros screen, you will see a menu with two options BEFORE it lands at the desktop...
*** Check the "Use this as default" box on the very bottom (it's very small).
*** Then select the option on top ("Launcher"). You do NOT want to run the "Setup Wizard".
10.) Make sure you are connected to an active Wi-Fi connection (open your browser and navigate to this forum to ensure it's working)
11.) Open the Apps list (by tapping the box made of little squares, again mine was in the upper right hand corner of the tablet)
12.) Tap on the "Android Market" icon in this list. It will be the default, ugly android APK icon.
13.) Select the option that you already have a GMail account
14.) Enter your GMail username and password... and continue
15.) In a few seconds, you should be able to access the Market.
If you want to redeem Google Play gift cards with this version of the Market/Play store... go here (http://play.google.com/redeem)
-------- END ---------
I hope this works for you as quickly as it worked for us. It only took about 15 minutes and my friend was able to purchase Minecraft Pocket Edition for his son to play on this device. We ran the game and verified it was working smoothly.
Cheers!!!
Followed every step... gets to where I can sign in or create a new google account. Log in with my current google account... get the status bar that says: Your Phone needs to communicate with Google Servers to set up your account... may take 5 min....
Fails every time... "Cannot establish a reliable data connection to the server" And it's not because I'm not on the internet, cause I'm sitting at usatoday.com to verify internet connectivity in the browser.

I don't have this tablet in front of me... I just helped my friend set it up.
That being said, this is a common problem for Android phones.
Here are a few things to try...
1. Try going to YouTube through the app and login with your gmail account.
2. Go to GMail app and add your account
3. Sign into Gmail account with your username and password
4. Go back through the login process
Alternately,
1. Go to settings, applications, manage applications, tap Google apps
2. Tap clear data, then okay
3. Try again.

Wow, that will take a little research. My first thought is to do a factory reset and start over.
I'll see what I can dig up.

You can try going to Google Play from a computer browser and logging in, picking a free app, and try sending it to your tablet from there. It should automatically download and install. That doesn't give you a working market you can browse on your tablet though.
From what I can find, it sounds like the market app version is not correct or is corrupted.
Please verify that you used the one included in my post above.
If so, try the following....
1. Settings -> Applications -> Market -> Force Stop, Clear Cache
2. Restart tablet and try Market
If still not working...
1. Settings -> Applications -> Market -> Force Stop, Clear Cache, Clear Data
2. Restart tablet and try Market... you'll probably have to login again
If still not working, factory reset the tablet and refer back to my original post. Make sure you don't try to login after install until you've reset the tablet. (Follow the steps exactly).
If still doesn't work, I'm stumped and I'm sorry. I hope one of these works.

No problem. I'm glad you got it working finally.
For some reason, the Coby Kyros tablets do not work well with Google Play.
They do work with the old Android Market (the apk for which, if anyone else is reading this thread, is a download in my first post).
Don't worry though, you'll still see all the "compatible" apps.
Between the Android Market and GetJar, you should be able to get most apps.
Best wishes.

Re-download the files... Its most likely a corrupted download.
After after that... You are stuck....
You can wipe your device to factory stock and try again before you do anything to the tablet.

I've been scouring the references on this and the only thing I can suggest is trying this (different) framework package (see attachment). It's worked for a few other tablets, but I have no idea if it will work for you.
Beyond that, I'm completely stumped so I truly hope it works. I'm sorry I can't be of much help as I do not have the tablet to try this out (I was just helping a friend with his son's tablet and the original files worked flawlessly for us).
P.S. Did you do a complete factory reset on the device and attempt the process a second time? It may help if something got mis-installed during the original attempt.
From my research you start with a completely powered down tablet...
1. Turn on the tablet by pressing and holding the Power Button, Volume Down (-) and the Back Button
2. After a couple seconds you should see the android logo with instructions on formatting the tablet
(*). If that doesn't work, try pressing and releasing the power button, then pressing and holding the three buttons as soon as you see the Coby logo
Best regards!

Hi! I've got a challenge for you guys! It happens that I own a coby kyros mid7033-4 and I've tried so hard to root it. I have tried with superoneclick, bin4ry, unlock root (which actually says that supports my tablet but it tells me that it failed to shell root), and android root. This last one, android root, worked, but not properly. Some programs tell me my device is rooted but root check tells: Sorry! This device does not have a proper root access. Help me! I'm trying to root so that I can install google now on ics.

I'm sorry to hear that. Maybe you'll run across a solution. In the meantime, you can install the Amazon Appstore which has most of the same apps as the Google Play market. That was our back-up plan for my friend's tablet. He was insistent on getting Minecraft on it for his son.
Best of luck.

Hey Guys, so I've been having the error 403 when trying to update or install ANY apps via Wi-Fi, ones I have purchased and ones that are free. But I can download when I am connected to my phone data (vodafone AU).
I have tried restoring via nandroid backup (i think I have gapps installed, even though I am still on the stock ROM), forgetting the gmail account, and then logging back in, restarting (duh), logging back into wifi, cleared cache etc, basically all the fixes people have said.
PLEASE HELP ASAP!
P.S I am rooted and would unroot for it to work, btw would reseting the router do anything? :crying:
114 views, no replies, so that would imply its not just me with this problem?
First try and go to settings/appmanager, find play store and clear the cache.
Write back if it's not fixed.
It didn't help :-\

Actually i didn't I'll try that now
I completely removed root using: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1721380 guide which you install the stock EVERYTHING i guess and it still doesn't work :crying: PLEASE HELP!
Edit: I used my nandroid backup not the one supplied (it gave me md5 mismatch)
That is one of the best unroot and back to stock guides..
Can i ask were u are from. Maybe Google or your country removed access to paid apps, because your wifi is working for browsing and u are able to download free apps.
So either access to paid apps have been removed or did u log in using a different gmail account .
I did have a similar problem more than a year ago and sometimes i get the 403 error, but only for an hour or so.
Ps. I has nothing to do with root, a lot of apps can not be used without root and can bought on market.
Edit:can u buy new apps. Can u try(just one) and return the purchase immediately .to if your account is up and running.
The problem isn't root or stock, I'm on stock and I get this regularly if I start a download just as I have switched on Wifi, if it fails, i start again it works fine.

I did read thank you, and I am also talking about receiving a 403 error.
But, As I have stated, it usually only happens immediately after connecting wifi. If I click ok and try again it usually works the second time.

I'm in Australia (Perth, WA), and I cannot download free apps, or update apps for that matter.
Edit: BTW some of my router ports have been forwarded could that screw it up?

That could potentially yes.
I just recalled another time I had this problem, and it was solved by selecting a different account (because I had multiple Google accounts set up).
Do you have multiple? If so, give it a go by selecting an alternative account from within Play Store, by hitting Menu - > Accounts.

Yeah, I've tried that :\
Another way to fix it (but this is old, sgs1). Clear your play store data on the phone. Then log in to the internet Google store from the browser, download any app and try again from the play store app

It didn't work but thanks (thankyou everyone) and I think it is the forwarding ports problem or the new Google Play update
Sorry 'bout that. But port forwarding shouldn't interfere with play store. Maybe I'm wrong. Ooh well good luck anyway

First I would recommend making sure you have a network connection either through Wifi or cellular data. If that doesn't solve the problem going into application manager and then find the Market and clear the applications cache and data. Another possible fix would be running the fix permissions utility in recovery.
well i do got connection from a wifi or cellular data, but the problem persist when i try to use a market, when i'm downloading programs over market, than the message pops out saying to check the network connection, can you explain to me how do i clear the applications data from market, and how do i run the FIX PERMISSIONS..my phone is rooted.

To clear the cache and data for the Market open settings then navigate to application manager then select the all tab find the Market then select it you should then see the option to clear data and cache. For fix permissions you can boot into recovery go under the advanced section then select the the fix permissions option.

For backing up all your apps including system apps I would recommend taking a look at Titanium Backup. Your contacts can automatically be backed up through your Google account and can then easily be restored by signing into your Google account when setting up your ROM.

You definitely do not want to restore your system apps unless you know with certainty what you're doing. Many from stock will not function properly on Cyanogen and will cause looping Force Closes and may cause issues to the point that you have to do a Data Reset.
You should back up your contacts through another app or as an xml file and restore that way.

The Universal Inbox is a part of Motorola Blur and would not be compatible with CM 7 without heavy porting. You would have to use a Motorola Blur based ROM for the Universal Inbox apk.

I would recommend taking a look at this fix for the MAC address issue your having it's for the Droid Pro but should work for your Droid 2 as well.
Hello!
This is a guide to help anyone who cannot retrieve or unlock any important documents in ColorNote. This can happen for many reasons, such as forgetting your password, or getting a new phone. This same situation happened to me, and I scoured the internet to find a way to retrieve my important notes. I found and tried multiple things from different places, and after a day I was able to retrieve my notes. I figured since there wasn't a thread on this, and because their still might be people out there using this app, or people who don't use it because of this situation, that I would post the method here for easy access and availability.
Credit to GPT (posted the fix on Retrogade Peace) Mick Lee, Mohammed Rafi, collegemomlynn, jambavo75.
Some of the instructions were a little hard to follow for me, so I will do the best I can at detailing the steps here. PART I will review if you have never synced your notes to an account, like Google, Facebook etc. PART II will be if you HAVE synced your account. Either way we will get you up and running. If pictures are needed to help with the process, or even a walkthrough video, let me know and I will post them here.
Part I (Without Online Sync)
1. Read these instructions all the way through before starting. I recommend finding all of the menu settings and getting familiar with where to find everything in the app before starting the process.
2. Make sure you have an older version of the app, or download the one provided in this post. 4.0.5 seems to work (Thanks to @fjdlkjfldjsjsjjfs).
3. Go into the App, click the three lines on the top left-hand side, then click on Settings.
4. Scroll down and make sure Auto Backup is checked.
5. If it is NOT checked, then enable Auto Backup (check the box) and wait 24 hours for the backup to happen. I didn’t see any other way of speeding this up, so make sure to wait the 24 hours. If for some crazy reason it asks you for a password to enable auto backup, make sure you have the latest version of ColorNote. That should fix the problem and let you select Auto Backup without the password.
6. After this step, or if Auto Backup was already enabled, go to Settings, then scroll down towards the bottom and click on Backup.
7. On this screen, you should see a Backup Notes button, and right below it the Saved Backup Data section, which will include the date, time, and a box to the right with the number of notes that was backed up.
8. Verify the backup by clicking on the file (where the date and time are) and then click view. This should show you all your locked and unlocked notes.
9. Once you have verified the backup, you are going to clear the Master Password.
10. Note – Resetting the Master Password will delete your locked notes; however, you will still have the backup. That is what we will be working with to get your notes back.
11. Go to Settings, scroll down to Security, and click on Master Password.
12. If this screen is asking for the Current Master Password, then click on the three circles menu button on the top right hand side, select clear password, then click okay on the popup box that comes up.
13. Now you can set a new Master Password, and re-enter it. Then click Save.
14. Go back to Backup (Settings > Backup)
15. Click on the backup file you want to restore.
16. Click Restore.
17. Now you can open the locked notes with your new Master Password.
Part II (WITH Online Sync)
1. Follow steps 1-8 in Part 1.
2. Go to Settings, click Online Sync, then Sign Out.
3. At this point, all your notes will be gone. They are safely stored in your online sync as well as the auto backup files.
4. Go to Settings, scroll down to Security, and click on Master Password, and setup a new Master Password.
5. In the settings menu, click on Backup, then click on the backup file. (If you don’t see a backup file, then you must sync the account again and wait 24 hours. Please see steps 1-8 in Part I.)
6. Once you click on the backup file, a popup menu will come up. Click View.
7. This will show you all your files. If you click on the locked notes, you will be able to open them with your new password.
8. You can restore the note by pressing the sideways-U-shaped arrow on the top right-hand corner of the note itself. You can also long press the note from the previous notes screen and the restore option that pops up on the bottom of the screen.
9. Note – You must restore the notes individually, DO NOT select them all and then choose Restore. If you try it this way, it will reconnect you to Online Sync and cancel out your new password.
10. Once you have restored all the notes you want, you can reconnect to Online Sync if you choose to (Settings > Online Sync).
That’s it! Hopefully you have successfully recovered your important, locked notes. I truly hope this has been helpful, and again I appreciate all the people mentioned above for their wisdom and guidance on this process. Please post any questions, comments or concerns you may have.
I apologize for the lengthy post, I realize I went a little overboard with the details, however I just wanted to make sure things were clear.
Thanks!

July 8th, 2021 - Updated OP to reflect that older version of app is needed in order for the process to work. Ver. 4.0.5 works per member @fjdlkjfldjsjsjjfs.
July 14, 2021 - Updated OP with ColorNote apk, ver. 4.0.5.
VIDEO TUTORIAL WILL BE BETTER
Better Method
Just delete the app. Go to the app store, uninstall it, then install it again. Before you've logged in or anything, it will find the note on your phone, but your password is stored on it's servers. So you can see it before you sign in or sync or anything.
Has anyone been able to research who actually owns Colornote these days, or how they support development of this free app? Generally I've been able to find the large conglomerate behind popular apps that get purchased and injected with new behavior. Like ES Explorer, etc.
Colornotes just mysteriously changed the developer name in Google Play to "Notes" a few years ago and there's no trace online of who that is.
Does anyone know?
Unfortunately I believe they've patched this now. Restore seems to also restore the Master password, at least for me as it rejects my new one after attempting in on a Note as well as if I try to change it in settings.
Same here, can not access my backup files because they are locked with my old master password.
Does anyone know how to get around this so i can open and restore my notes?
Hi! I'm new here, and i registered just to say thank!

P.S. The guide doesn't work in the latest version, requiring online login for viewing even the device backup.

@corpsetomb , I followed all the steps of the Part II. The back up part works the same in the latest version of the app but one can't restore notes the way described in your post (I guess they've fixed it), so an earlier one is needed. Also, I was able to restore multiple notes by long pressing one and choosing all the necessary.

Thankyou so much for your tutorial. Bought a new phone and in the washup of transfering everything I lost my ColornNote Master password. Followed your guide to the tee and all good now.
Many thanks to the creator of the post.
Impressive that even after more than 3 years, this procedure still works, it's incredible, I was able to recover a very important note after having forgotten the master password. But this also reveals a terrible security breach of the app, it's a very convenient app, but I'm going to stop using it.
Hey Together,
I'll hope some can help me with an quite similiar problem.
I deleted my fb account, but used the colornote app further on. Unfornenately the connection to the fb acc. got lost and know i can't recover the back-up, because colornote wants me to log in the fb acc.
I deleted the App and downloaded the a.m. 4.0.5. Version, but unfortenately colornote can't find my back-up from the 4.4.2 version.
I already tried to store the back-up file in the back-up folder, but that didnt helped.
In the 4.4.2 Version (latest Version) i can recover my back-up, eventhough it won't be launched, when i reinstall the latest version, but then i can't open the back-up file due to the missing link to the fb acc.
I hope someone can help me.
Best Regards,
Ben
To whom it may concern, this procedure still works and can even be done with version 4.1.6 of Colornote, versions above that do not work as the application now requires that the user have synchronization enabled in order to remove the password.
