Looking for my original kernel. Vodafone White s2 - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys. I recently rooted my galaxy s2 (Vodafone UK White) using the method of flashing an insecure kernel, then using one click root. My original kernel was I believe i9100BUKI1, I couldn't find the exact insecure version so I flashed i9100BUKE1. I didn't think to backup my original one so I was stuck with flashing back the secure version of i9100BUKE1. The problem I have is that now my phone has washed out colours on the screen and the battery life is shocking.
Is there any place I can get hold of the original kernel that shipped with my phone?
Thanks.

Will that flash the right kernel along with the firmware?

If you flash XX1 firmware it always has XX1 kernel .

I really think I need to have the right firmware. With the stock one my phone randomly turns off and on again. Is there anywhere I can get the BUKI firmware or kernel, I cannot find it anywhere.

I'm also having problems with a washed out screen. I rooted my s2, and noticed that the screen became really washed out, particularly noticeable on the camera and on video playback. It was originally kernel xwkdd. I decided to unroot it and went back to a samsung repair shop. They tried fixing it but it did not work. He now told me that he was waiting for the white s2 screens to come, he would try replace that and if that did not work, then he would send it into samsung. The kernel version is now xwkd6 which i've never heard of or seen on the internet. (for insecure and secure kernels) Shall I try fiddling around or just be patient and get samsung to replace it? If i were to try something, can you tell me what to do? Thanks

I think the only way I can fix mine is by getting the original firmware that I had. I cannot find it anywhere on the internet though. I really need someone to post the kernel or a backup of there rom. Please can someone do this for me?

I have tried all these firmware already, the colours are either washed out, or the phone just restarts constantly. I really don't understand how no one has ever posted this firmware. If you google it, people talk about it but it is no where to be downloaded. It needs the be the BUKI one, not the BUKE or BUKG ones. Definitley not the XX ones.
Please someone post this

just flash one of the ealier one from here and then update via kies to see if you get it back.

I have tried every unbranded and every vodafone firmware now, and all of them have obscure results with my phone.
There must be another unlisted version??

Are you sure it's "washed out" Can you get pics? maybe it's a coincidental hardware fault? I mean.. It should work?

Have you tried fiddling with the display settings? There are various DNIE modes that could be the cause.

[Q]What kernel?

Hey, I have done pretty stupid thing few days ago, I have rooted my phone, and I picked up one of the kernels on here, however I completely forgot to make a note of which kernel was this shipped with... any Idea how could I find this information?
Thanks...

Sorry, for bumping this, does anyone knows how to help me in this? There must be some log inside of the NAND that says what the original shipment was...
The only thing I could suggest is to look for the most current 3 firmware for your region. Try http://samfirmware.com/ - it may help.

Ah, ok, a friend of mine got his SGS2 few days after me from 3 as well, so I assume it will have the same firmware? What are the chances of him getting different one than me, while I was getting it in store, but he got it delivered?
EDIT: Ok, so I got the details from a friend with same phone, so the FW should be as follows:
I9100NEKD5
2.6.35.7-I9100XWKE1-CL181974
[email protected]#2
gingerbread.XWKE1
So, now I am good again, in case something goes wrong, I know which FW to pick to unroot Thanks

50% chance different .

Your best is to go to stock firmware and branded firmware posts in dev section and find matching firmware and download it now .
Your product code defines the original firmware .

Thanks, I have most likely located my FW, will download as soon as I come home, now you have mentioned that my product code will determine which FW I had originaly, Where do I find my product code, and where to check that? Also, would not product code give you details about non-branded OS, and then when phone gots branded by provider(three.ie in my case) those might have change?
Ok, seems that I got this resolved and using app called SYSTEM INFO I found most of the information I needed...
JJ, you look like you know some stuff, Hows with rooting and unrooting, is flashing back stock kernel(I have so far only flashed Kernel, nothing else was needed as of yet, this is my first Samsung, so I am trying to get slowly into it) going to remove all traces of root? Or will technicians in Samsung be able to see that its been rooted(in case of warranty repair needed)

[Q] Help with 're' branding S2 please???

I got fed up waiting for the latest update on my O2 S2 so thought i'd try the 2.3.4 update. I didn't at this time realise it was an XEU firmware.
Using Odin was straight forward and I completed the flash and started using the phone. I got some unexpected lag and thought i'd revert back to the original firmware but it is this that is causing me a problem.
I attempted the reflash with the O2 firmware (KE7),
I now get the O2 bubbles on start up (which was replaced but a fragmentated S on 2.3.4, official samsung I believe) and in phone settings its says 2.3.3 however when I connect to Kies it says the CSC is XEU and not 02.
I tried the '272' imei trick but only get 1 option XEU.
Can anybody please help me revert my phone back to original???
Here's hoping somebody can help..
Branded rom /provider rom post or how to debrand O2 phone posts from Dev section .
Essentially flash the O2 firmware through Odin

Thanks for the reply. I 'think' i have solved it now. I had flashed it with Odin but only once i had cleared the partition cache did Kies show the right firmware.
It does mean i have lost all of my apps so now am looking at a good backup app.
Any suggestions for a non rooted phone?

You can't backup apps unless your rooted as these live on the root of your phone.
You can root and keep the phone stock and not flash any custom roms.
Im on o2 uk. Had the xeukd1 csc before i switched.
If any of my friends asked me i would tell them to root and install a custom rom and kernel.
The themes and tweaks available are great. The biggest thing for me is the battery life. I now get only 1% battery drain overnight (7 hours) someone else on the same rom and kernel went over 6 days without charge.
Never would have got this before.

Many thanks for the reply.
It certainly sounds very interesting. I am new to rooting only having learnt about the basics of it over the past couple of days.
I presume therefore that should the need ever arise restoring the phone to its original firmware spec (as at time of purchase, and should warranty work be required) is possible?
I think I need to go and read some more on rooting.

Go to intratech's thread in original android development find out what firmware modem and csc you're using download and keep in a safe place. This is then your return to factory settings if you have a warranty issue.
If you need any help pm me as I won't always be popping in to this thread.

Cheers to be honest i'm not very good with forums, really need to sort it out lol
Quick question, how do i tell which version i need to go back to?
All i did to my phone once i got it was root it usin odin and supeoneclick. Downloaded was described i believe as an insecure version of samsungs generic rom named XWKDD?
Need to un-root my phone and get it back into a state where they won't know i ever did anything to the software lol

Current Official Vodaphone UK firmware?

Hi All,
Nasty lines have appeared across the screen of my sgs2 Had a bit of a search but having a bit of a senior moment and cant find a link to the current official fw
Need to jig and reflash before the phone fails totally
Can anyone help please?
If its to sent to service I'm sure any relative new version of stock Vodafone should work, you don't need to have the latest in order to send it to service since the phone usually packs an older version when you open it from the shop.
Indeed I would settle for any one. Couldnt see one in the official fw thread, Im probably just being blind :/

Stock firmware problem

Before I continue I just want to say that I have looked around, used the search button, but haven't found anything that will solve my problem.
So I was fairly unpleased with the custom rom I had flashed on my Sgs2 and wanted to flash my stock firmware (2.3.3 XWKE2) and so I went into the official thread for firmwares.
At first I tried out a 2.3.4 stock firmware, but kies would'nt let me update so then I continued looking and found a stock firmware that matched the one my phone originally had (android version 2.3.3 XWKE7)
I checked the codes and downloaded the NEE one since I live in Sweden. Flashed it with no problems but then when I went on Kies to try and update again I got "Your unit doesn't support updates through Kies"
It then also said: I9100XWKE2/1910OXXKE2/I9100XXKDJ/I9100XWKE2 (KOR)
Why did it say KOR? I thought I had downloaded the Swedish/Nordic firmware?
Can someone help me flash the real original firmware for my phone so I can update through Kies?
And your posting this in the dev forum because...?

Well, KE2 clearly isn't KE7, so it's doubtful that you flashed your original firmware.
This is stock Nordic KE2, taken from this thread.
If all you want is stock firmware, install this then connect to Kies and it should update to the latest Nordic firmware. Then back it up!! I'm in Norway, can't remember what is the most recent version, been on custom ROMs for a long, long time... Lykke til.
What custom ROM did you try, and why didn't you like it?

But my phone originally had the KE2 on it when I bought it. Couldn't wait for the Swedish release for KE7 and began flashing custom firmwares.
That is the exact link that I downloaded, from that exact forum. That's why I find it weird that Kies doesn't recognize it.
The custom ROM I tried was a leaked version of 2.3.5 from Frankenstein. I was about to download and flash another ROM but every time I asked for someone's suggestion they would always say the taste differs from person to person. I then responded that I just want a high performance and quick ROM, and never got an answer so that is why I wanted to flash to an original Firmware from Kies.
You ask 10 people which rom they consider good and you will get 10 answers, some of the most popular being:
Hyperdroid (personal fav): great base, great kernel, OTA app for mods/updates
Villanrom: Older base, very stable, some limitation of available mods due to the older base
Checkrom: Never been my cup of tea but people seem to like it, it has the kitchen app for mods
That is the exact link that I downloaded, from that exact forum. That's why I find it weird that Kies doesn't recognize it.
Flashing firmware means somewhere you changed codes and KIES dies not recognize .
A removal of KIES plus all registry entries may solve the issue .

Do you mean uninstalling it completely and re-installing it?
I'll try that and see if it works.
You need to have a "stock" combo of stock firmware, aka a modem, "PDA" (kernel+rom) and csc that where shipped together, otherwise KIES wont recognise it.
I tried uninstalling and re-installing it but it didn't work. Still get the "Your unit doesn't support programupdating through Kies" message.

You require your saved original rom or one that nearly matches it .

Carrier branded .

Was it a file with one big .tar in it? if so thats everything.
Why do you want to update with KIES? Just use odin to flash a KIES release, there all in that thread, and its counterpart with the carrier branded firmwares.
Note, kies wont be able to updates "frankenstein" releases which are mix/match.

Yes it was a big .tar file!
I really don't know how to explain it. I love this phone, and want to get the most out of it (custom roms, overclock, root) but I'm not that good with all of these different concepts and there is always that fear of bricking the phone.
Also I go to college right now, and am a bit behind so I really don't have time to go through the xda forums on a daily/weekly basis, so I thought that when the new firmwares (mainly a official/perfected version of the ICS) updates are available I could just log on to Kies and update them while saving my self some time.

KIES is pretty crap and does this all the time, I have never had an update though KIES so im out of ideas
The one big tar file should have been right though, unless you picked a mix/match one.

Nope, did not pick a mix/matched one from what I know. I'm gonna try one of the firmwares from the previous link you sent me. If it doesn't work there then I'll just continue flashing through Odin.
Quick question though, it says:
XWKI8:
Firmware info: PDA:XWKI8| PHONE:NEKI2| CSC:HTSKI1
XWKI8 Stock Kernel:http://www.multiupload.com/4O6DVGUGSU

What do I do with the stock kernel? Flash it? If so where? (for example csc?)
