Official 2.3.4 Update Available Now - Motorola Droid X2

Pete's One-Click Root Method works on the OTA. Just make sure you enable USB Debugging.
---------------
New Kernel (2.4.4): 2.6.32.9-00005-g2440aba [email protected] #2
Old Kernel (2.3.3): [email protected] #2
Build Number: 4.5.1a-dtn-150-30
---------------
The update (downloading and installing) took about 15 minutes for me. The new version is indeed 2.3.4.
----------------
Motorola has released their newest soak test today, at 12:12 EST. (atleast for me)
People living further west can expect the update to come later, Matt (@Motorola Forums) said.
Rooted phones cannot update. you must SBF to 2.3.3 stock to install the update.
I'll update this thread as more information is found.
If you get the update please remember to post at the project's forums over at Motorola.

Hey guys, I've been running the new 2.3.4 sbf since last weekend. There is a bug related to the battery reporting that I've noticed and from talking with other users here and at droid forums it doesn't seem to be an isolated problem.
Could you guys that get the soak test check and see if your battery reporting changes when you reboot the phone?? Mine can change 10-20% with each reboot.
It's not a huge deal, but something that is annoying and if we point it out before the end of the soak test maybe we can get it fixed before the official release.
Hopefully, this is just an issue with the SBF and the OTA wont have any problems, but please check because thats a bug we could miss if we aren't paying attention.
Thanks guys

Just rebooted my phone a few times, battery hasn't changed.

I was rooted on 2.3.3 and was able to upgrade to 2.3.4 but root is dead now.

Pete's one click method didn't work for you? The kernel is the exact same as the leaked SBF build, could be slightly altered to kill root with the official update. I'd grab the SBF if you want the latest kernel + 2.3.4 rooted.

I've rebooted many times with the sbf and never noticed. Now on Eclipse 1.0 and haven't noticed either. When I come out of cwm and reboot my battery reads wrong...a couple reboots fixes it.
EDIT: Just rebooted and it's reading 10% higher than b4. First time I noticed it.

So what is the verdict on being able to root the ota version? Did it get patched or is rooting with Pete one click doable?

I've found it does it more when you wear down the battery some, it reliably does it for me after going from a full charge down to around 70%. After reboot it will jump back up to 80-90%.
Anyways, its just something to look for when doing the soak test. It'd be great if the OTA didn't have this issue.

Nope, I've tried wiping battery stats, cycling the battery fully (fully charged to completely dead without charging in between), a few times now and haven't been able to get rid of it yet.

Same here!

So once again somethings broken on an update? Looks like I'll wait a little bit to see how this goes. Was just about to upgrade too.

Downloading Update...on rooted phone. Scared to install...
Edit...update failed to install...good i didn't want to install, my phone is running great right now...so i guess rooted phones can download but not install...it keeps bugging you to install so freeze "BlurUpdater_VZW.apk" i just renamed it "BlurUpdater_VZW.apk.BAK"

I believe I would have to turn wi-fi off to initiate OTA updates on my DX. For kicks I would also toggle the other devices off and on prior to initializing the update. Bluetooth, gps.
I was running EB01 so I odin'd back to DI01 and DL09 but I got "server unavailable" messages when I would check for OTA updates. I've scoured the internet far and wide for a solution but I've had no luck. Can someone please chime in? I don't get why I would have this issue having odin'd back to stock and it is frustrating.
Im on that same boat I haven't found a solution, I read an old thread on a similar problem but when update 1 was releases that said that certain models can't get that update. .. I think MAYBE because we own these models?

I'm not sure what you mean by certain models. I can tell you for sure that when I was running the stock eclair build on my Fascinate a few months ago I was able to check for and install OTA updates. I've literally tried almost everything and still get the SERVER UNAVAILABLE message and can't find any help on this on any forums. If you find a solution please do post back here and I will do the same. For now I just ODIN'd the ED01 zip here.
No one else gets a SERVER UNAVAILABLE when checking for OTA updates? I really suspect even though I ODIN'd the stock tarballs something must not be stock for the OTA updates to fail. Anyone, please??
I guess we need to wait for an Odin 2.2 file

You can Odin 2.1 and then flash the ED01 update.zip. That's what I ended up doing since no one responds to these server unavailable issues.
Take a look at this thread

It is not your exact problem but it does deal with a server problem.
If you can do either option it is worth a try.

[Q] Leaked Gingerbread or Official Gingerbread from Moto/ATT

So, its mid July ...I'm sure the update for Gingerbread is coming ....but apparently ...mostly everyone has installed the leaked gingerbread...now I ask is it worth it to go back to stock to be able to download the new update if so how do I go back? What do I need to flash? This question has probably been answered but I couldnt find it...thanks.

Hello filmusikat,
I see that you're running gingerblur 4.5 on your atrix, so do i. You need to flash 4.1.8.3 official sbf and check for the gingerbread update regulary. I don't think the leaked gb roms are worth to spend time for now. They all have glitches which would effect daily usage.

Hi filmusikat!
The latest ROM has proven to be very stable:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1169409
The instructions are included within the thread. Not addressing the unlocking part since your signature already tells you got it.
As for being worthy, I say it is. I was in Gingerblur too, and the performance difference is big.

no glitches affecting any daily usage on me for 4.5.91. 100% functional, and 100% better than froyo.
Remains to be seen which version of GB will be the official release. The leaked versions everyone is flashing may not be the most current which will be offered up.
NOTE SHE/HE NEVER MENTION GB 4.5, actually if she/he indeed installed ota gb update.zip, with you instructions she/he will have a HARD BRICK
So first thing to find out is what actually she/he has installed

My Atrix feels like it should have come out of the box like this. I honestly don't think within the next year or two they will release another operating system better than GB and by then I'd probably be upgraded to the newest phone AT&T has... "If you want to confirm your status, please adb, su, and "cat /sys/firmware/fuse/ReservedOdm" or just open the file in Root Explorer. If you see something like:
10000000000010001000300004000
Then you should NOT SBF anything from Motorola"
If you want to post your ReservedOdm to look and see if you will be fine to SBF 1.83 again
Probably you are safe if you actually installed Kenth by CDW or moto-fastboot (boot.img and system.img)
But if you actually run the update.zip or any update trought the normal android recovery screen and if you saw the following legend "updating AP20 bootloader" in that case you CAN NOT flash any SBF from Motorola
I hope it help

[Q] I'm new to Droid and I'm totally lost about GB update

Helo guys, I used to own a Samsung Galaxy S, and last week I got the Droid X2 from Verizon. So now I'm seeing new terms being used like sbf, debloat, freeze, etc...
My DX2 is root and I also have the V6 Supercharger, and I still can't get the GB update.
I believe many users on this forum have the same case as mine, so can anyone give us steps to follow in order to get the update.
Thank you so much

I came from a similar situation. I just got the x2 as a replacement for my fascinate due to repetitive missed call issues. I updated to Gingerbread today using the tips on this forum & the file posted to the mediafire link. The first thing you'll need to do for this update to work is undue all the non-stock modifications you've done.
Unsupercharge
Unfreeze or replace any stock apps you may have uninstalled. This is where the sbf comes in, it's the stock image that was loaded when it left the factory.
Unroot, might not be necessary but its better safe than sorry. Especially since this update is unrootable atm.
Rename the downloaded file update.zip & put it in the root of your sdcard-ext.
Flash from the stock recovery & you should be good.
Whatever other info you need, search these threads-its in there somewhere.

The SBF does infact restore you to stock 2.2.2
It should also be the first thing you do when you get the phone (before rooting etc) It blows my mind that people would mess with their device without doing an SBF at least once.
The SBF will usually require you to battery pull at the end, go to stock Android recovery and wipe data and cache. (unless you did that before running the SBF)
On Vista and Windows 7 make sure you right click RSDlite and choose to "run as admin"
Everyone who did the OTA or the 2.3 update from here at XDA and wants p3droids rooted update is going to have to SBF momentarily. We should get rooted 2.3 this afternoon according to p3's twitter
I unrooted my phone and uninstalled the Supercharger, I sbf'd back to stock Froyo successfully, and still I can't get the update. What else should I do?

GREAT, you have completed step one. Do not load anything else on your phone. You will not be getting a over the air update.
You have more work to do to get 2.3.3 on your phone.

Just to be clear.... He should eventually get an OTA update if he waits long enough. But he won't be able to root it. So follow the link above, and do those steps to install the rooted version of the update from 3Pdroid.

From my understanding, its an OTA update. So just be on stock and check for a software update. But be sure to go through the process to keep root.
Just updated while on stock and it's only taking me to 234, thinking I need to update to 235 in stock recovery but can't find a working download.
Hmm. Well I havent seen any link to download the update. I was under the impression that it was OTA. The only one I remember was the leak but I dont think thats what the newest version of Eclipse is based on. Sorry I cant be more help. I havent gone that route and updated. Im sticking with 2.3.4
You're good, yeah I'm guessing once I'm on 235 and update it will give me the new build. Seems like it may be a pain though because of some new security patch, might just stay on 234 myself.
The update really has nothing useful in it. I'd stay on whatever you have now and wait for CM9 which may be coming pretty soon. Thats my plan.
What's the word on CM9, I hadn't heard anything? Kind of veering off topic here but yeah I ran CM7 for a while, Eclipse was just less buggy overall. I'd kill for a solid MIUI on dx2.

I assume you rooted using ZergRush method? This modifies system files during the root process and will force the 2.3.5 OTA update to fail during installation.
Root using Pete's Motorola Root Tools one click method and you will be fine. Just make sure you install VooDoo Rootkeeper from the Market and save a backup of your 2.3.4 root. Temp unroot and accept the OTA update. It will install with no issue if you use Petes one click to root. Once booted into 2.3.5 open VooDoo again. First restore root and the delete the backup. You can now flash eclipse 2.2

I wish it was the ICS upgrade testing but its too soon. It must be some new version of Android 2.3.5.

Did any body else get an email about another soak starting for a new software version up dating the last one? Any body know what it fixes or changes?

We'll be resuming the soak test 7/5/2012 in the morning with a new software version. I'm including the previously provided email as a reminder. Please re-read it. We'll also be having some new members join us who aren't on the latest software but will jump from version 45.3.6 to the same version you will be updating to. Please welcome them warmly. This test will likely run through the weekend and end early in the week. Please complete the survey promptly after I send it to you Saturday evening or Sunday morning. Thanks in advance for your participation and support.

I didn't get an email, however I was just pushed an update OTA to version 45.4.13. I already had version 12 installed, and thus far haven't noticed anything much different.

I just dont understand why are they wasting their time on the GB updates, why dont they just focus on ICS.

I just recieved the notification but its failing during instal.
Can anyone verify that torpedo root method works after the update? Or restoring root from Superuser or VooDoo?
I didn't get an email, but the update was waiting for me when I checked manually.
I'll check if photon torpedo works once the update is complete.
EDIT: Scratch that, update fails every time.

Not sure it applies to you, but I am sure the update will fail everytime if you have bootstrap recovery installed. As the update uses a bootstrap method itself, if it can't launch it's recovery properly it will fail.
The catch to that is that since the last two updates were OTA's there is no SBF for us to revert back to stock with.
So, you can take the downloaded OTA out of the /cache partition (Will be a zip file with todays timestamp), rename it to update.zip, place it on your sd card and flash through recovery. That's a work around

Looks like Photo-torpedo method worked!
Photon-torpedo.sh threw an error like it did in the last update but #Root Check says it's all good. Super User, Busy box, Titanium Backup are all happy with root.
Also no problem to go R/W with Root Explorer so maybe this update is not locked like the last one!
