fGood evening.
I can't seem to get SMB file sharing to work with ASTRO, EStrongs, or AndSMB. This is very annoying. I'm running a computer on Windows XP SP3. This should be seamless, but all the programs can't seem to find my server. I have two HDs. My shares ar on my D drive.
Any help will be apprciated.

Hi guys,
I would like to access some shared files with my SGS2 in my home network through wifi. So i first looked up for some information. I installed the ES File Explorer and configured a folder on my harddisk to be shared.
Once i opened ES File Explorer, i thried to add a new server. So i filled in my ip-address and my username and password from the computer. But ESFE wasn't able to connect to it.
So i went looking on the internet for some information, and what i learned from it was that it worked through a smb connection, but i don't have any clue how to let it work.
Could anyone explain me how to set up such an smb connection and what are the different steps so that i can access the shared files on my computer with my SGS2.
Thx for the help.
Hi, depends on what operating system you use on the computer.
If your running windows make sure you have file and print sharing enabled in networking, and a shared folder. Appart from that smb is running.
Make sure when you connect your connecting to the shared folder as some file managers wont connect to just the pc.
If your runnin mac os or linux itl take some config so youl have to look that up.
Hope that helps!

I'm running on Windows 7 Enterprise edition 64 bit. File and print sharing is enabled.
I turned Windows Firewall off and instead i'm using the AVG firewall. Do I have to configure something in the firewall options?
I installed Astro File Manager and the SMB file module.
I had no problem accessing the windows shares on my local network - just entered IP address, share name, user name and password and it connected straight away.
Ok i found the (provisional) solution for my problem.
It worked to connect when i turned of the AVG firewall, so probably i have to configure something into AVG.
Yeah firewalls tend to like blocking smb. Somewhere you should be able to allow either port 445 or smb or file sharing in AVG not used it so i dont know where but it will be there! Glad you found a solution.

I'm trying to find a good SMB client that can connect to my Win 2008r2 file server.
I've tried ES File Explorer and File Expert. I've gotten File Expert to see my network share but retreiving contents is beyond slow, and I gave up. File Explorer won't connect no matter what.
I'm a Windows admin in my other life so I'm well aware that Win 7 broke a lot of old (and new ) SMB clients, but I was hoping for some luck.
Until we have cifs module compile, you have to use ES File Explorer. Did you do a LAN scan in ES File Explorer? My Windows 7 shared folders shows up and I can access them.
Yes, ES sees my server but either login fails or else server not found. I don't have guest access enabled. I run a domain network at home -- and I well know that is the steepest hill for any cifs client.
What are your settings? It's OK if you fake the ip's. Just so I have boilerplate to make ES happy.
I use es fie explorer to connect to shared drives on my home pc on my G2 running CM7 without issues. However using the same program for my TP2 I can't connect. I've tried other file explorers as well all with the same result. Has anyone had any success connecting to smb shares? If yes, can you share your setup? Thanks in advance.

I have used ES File Explorer and Astro to connect to Windows SMB shares. I do not know of any special setup though? With ES File Explorer I just have it scan my network for shares and then pick the PC that has the shares I want. With Astro I have to specify the IP address of the PC that I want to connect to, but that is only a one time deal.
Try AndSMB. It works for me, while I cannot connect using ES File explorer.

Thanks for your replies, guys. Today's update of es file explorer fixed my issues.
I'm trying to connect my TF101 to a V-Gear Landisk (SMB share) on my network.
I can connect with my PC (on the same wired network), and see the top-level MUSIC folder and many sub-folders.
I have tried ES File Explorer, CifsManager, Mount Manager, and AndSMB with essentially the same results:
I can connect and see the top-level MUSIC folder, but when I open it, I don't see any sub-folders.
In some cases, I get error messages such as "path doesn't exist" or "timeout"; sometimes I just see an empty folder.
Can anyone help me get this working?
Thanks,
Eric
I am about to order a Macbook and read that some people have problems using WiFi Explorer Pro with Mac on OS Lion to transfer file between Mac and Tab. Anyone has success with this combination?
Will there be any compatability issues as I really need to transfer files between Mac and Tab.
Thanks.
You could just setup a SMB share on Lion and use estrong's file explorer. That's what I do and have no issues. You could also use ftp or ssh.
I haven't used Wifi Explorer Pro so I don't know whether or not you'll have issues. You can also try Kies Air or a service like Dropbox or Box to transfer files.
I have an Android box with Kodi installed for TV viewing. It is connected by LAN to my router. There are also Windows computers on the same network. I have set up a shared folder on one Windows computer to play videos that are in that folder. This works fine with any other Windows computer on the network.
However, I cannot get the Android box to see the Windows shared folder. I have tried this with ES File explorer and also from within Kodi. I have tried everything I can think of but nothing seems to work. The Android box does not see the Windows computer at all, even when I manually enter the URL. Another Windows computer on the same LAN connection works fine so that is not the problem. I don't know what else to try. Does anyone know what could be causing this problem?
