[Q] Apps works fine over WIFI but not on EDGE - Optimus One, P500, V General

I am having an odd problem with my Optimus one. Internet connection is working fine for all the apps over WIFI, but when i switch to my EDGE connection, apps like Market, Mail (Yahoo), Facebook, Cnet, NDTV and many more are giving an error saying "Network error, Unable to retrieve error". I tested the mobile network settings and i am able to browse fine using browser app in my mobile. Looks like only my browser alone works fine using EDGE. I searched a lot but couldn't figure out the solution.
Note: I recently rooted my device and moved few apps to my SD card using Titanium. I am thinking if i have moved some important app which should be running in internal memory for the apps to retrieve data in EDGE networks. Before rooting i was able to connect to internet for all the apps both using WIFI and EDGE without any problems.
Please help. I am struck with this problem for over two weeks.
Thanks in Advance

im not sure if this will work but try this:
go to settings>wireless&networks>mobile networks>access point names
there set the options that are appropriate for your phone

Yeah.. i verified that.. Thanks for helping. but i don't think its problem with mobile networks as i am able to launch all the websites using my browser apps. Its just that my apps are not able to use the mobile network i guess.

I guess the problem lies with the apn only...
It happens with me sometime as the access point name automatically switches to wap access point when data is not available over gprs
I think your cell is currently using a wap access point...try switching it back to gprs one...
Like here in my bsnl
bsnllive is for wap &
bsnlnet is for gprs....
Press thanks if thos helped....

[Q] No Data Connection After Flashing to Stock Via Odin

Hey, I got a softbrick on my vibrant, reflashed back to stock and everything is working except I get no data connection. No 2g/no 3g, no Data icon at all. Even if I am on wifi I am also unable to download anything from the market place however my datasync / push with e-mail also works.
Any ideas?
Thanks
figured out my APN was empty... all good.
same issue, i don't know how to fix it. Mobile Network state says disconnected and connecting but never connects...
Might help to say I'm using a Galaxy S Continuum
and the only reason I'm posting here is because this is the only topic similar to my issues.

I couldnt figure it out either, so just used Wifi to get myself going...
Turns out 2.1 doesn't support two factor authentication with Google accounts, (at least I couldnt get it to work) so you may need to turn that off too to get going.

[Q] Tethering with rooted ICS phone

I have searched extensively on Google, and XDA but can't find the right answer.
I want to tether my phone. I can do this directly in Android but my current carrier brings up a message in the browser saying it's not supported on my current plan.
I'm addressing this, but in the mean time I'm curious if there is a way round it, hypothetically.
I have seen some Apps, such as ClockWork Mod Tether, but since my phone is rooted I wondered if there is a more elegant solution that doesn't involve any software to be added to my PC.
I read about using TB to freeze a specific App/Process but couldn't find any details.
Any advice would be great,
thanks

HOW have you not heard of android wifi tether? One of the first reasons I had for rooting the first Android phone I got.
There's also Barnacle Tether, available on the play store.
Guess Barnacle is gone... but there are other tethering apps on the play store though.
And I'm wrong again. Barnacle is still there, but doesn't show up when I search from my phone. How curious.
Since your phone is rooted you can download wireless tether.
Google it and you will easily find the download link or even directly via the play store.

I appreciate the reply, but if you read my post again the issue I'm having is not an app to enable wifi tether directly on the handset, it's that the packet data is being detected as not from the phone so I get a message, on the computer, in the internet browser saying my priceplan doesn't include tethering. I cant get around this 3 website redirect. So, I need a way to tether, without the network knowing... The apps you mention work when the block is at the phone level I believe.... This is something different Three is doing..
Please correct me if I'm wrong though...
Oh, and as for the apps not showing up, the mobile phone providers asked google to block these apps for certain customers.. if you connect to a wifi network when in flight mode, and go the google market, you should still be able to see them...

I WAS on wifi.
And did you ACTUALLY download the tether app and try, or were you using the tether built into the settings of Android? Because it sure doesn't sound like you downloaded the app...
And I don't have tethering on my carrier plan, but the tether app works just fine for me.

Initially when I first posted I was trying the built in app but I downloaded the app you suggested anyway, but it didn't work. would connect to the computer but no data connection. Unsure if its an app problem or still a three problem, but I don't see how this app would fix the three problem. Does it somehow mask the PC data connection??? I couldn't see anything in the settings or set up that suggest that it would, it just looks like a more feature rich wifi hotspot app?? In addition I found mention that that others with my issue have also tried these apps like barnacle and it didn;t resolve the problem....

They can suspend your service if they discover you are doing tethering on your device if you are not alowed in your current plan.
I Hope you wont have any issues.
Otherwise it is possible that the sim card lock the feature even on rooted phone when detect thetering or it is impossible ?

yes I suppose they could do, but like I say I'm resolving this with my contract. It's more that I'm curious how they are doing it, and on principle don't like being told what I can and can't do
It can't be a sim lock.
I just tried tethering a Macbook, and amazingly that worked!.. SO, It must be something to do with the Packet Headers I'm guessing.. Or they are doing some other more detailed packet sniffing... It means there is definitely a software route around it... Need a clever developer to read this thread
I guess clockworkMod Tether might work, but I want a solution without a PC install..

That doesn't make any sense. If it works with a mac book, it should work with your windows machine too. Unless your windows machine has some kind of proxy?

no proxy.. I'm as confused as you. The headers are different on a mac though, Unix based system... Need to know how 3 detect at a network level its not phone data... this difference with a mac must be a clue...

Shortly after PDA net stopped working, I was also getting the three message on the browser directly on my phone.. after about an hour, my phone web browser started working normall again :-(

When you use thetering, you embark to the provider internet network.
for example my provider is Bell Canada and their proxy is web.wireless.bell.ca
this one is for the device internet
for the thetering one they use another configuration settings when i connect my device to the computer.
What happen is when you plug your device to the computer, a signal is sent to the provider stating you entered in thetering mode. You don't have access to thetering so your internet connection is limited to the walled garden of the provider stating you are not subscrided to the service. Thats why i think they blocked the port 80 on your device and redirect you to that page.
Now for the Macintosh story.. It is not impossible that you can connect without problem with a mac and safari. I know a lot of people emulating a handled device with the Mac and the safari browser and those peeps didnt had a thetering plan.
The differences came with the drivers installed. Mac OS one are quite different in term of functionality than windows, thats why maybe the provider is able to sniff more easily people using windows but i am not a senior programmer. I am currently taking courses to become one but for now it is only suppositions. If i am wrong feel free to correct me but I am quite sure about what i am saying and that's why you dont have issues with a mac

This sounds correct to me. I'm pretty annoyed though. Only had the contract a month, I was told I could move onto a more expensive plan within contract if I needed more allowance etc.. Phone up 3, not only do they not let you PAY MORE for a different plan, but they also don't let anyone shift onto the one plan ever, unless its a new contract.. So basically **** them... so even if I want to pay extra for tethering I can't... absolute nonsense...
I had the same issue with three. I downloaded masqued crusader from play store. Activated it and then started wireless/usb tether. It worked. That was a while back tho. On a payg sim card on a galaxy s on gb. Its worth a try though.

Internet connection sharing problem. [solved]

When I try to share my mobile data connection to laptop, my laptop can't access internet.
No matter if I use USB or Wifi connection.
Everything seems to be ok, as far as settings are conserned.
Computer recognises and connects ok to the wifi hotspot or usb connection, but can't access internet.
I've tried stock rooted/unrooted and foxhound roms without luck.
Old SGS2 can share net without a problem in sight on every custom rom I've tried. I really need my "lifeline" to work with this phone.
Suggestions anyone?
[ My operator tele-finland sent 2 settings files: internet and wap. Problem was, that the WAP settongs went as default APN... ]
Edit: I've tried Foxfi app with no luck. Seems like there is a signifigant problem with my phone settings conserning mobile data, sice foxfi couldn't verify my internet connection and facebook doesn't automatically update status and youtube app can't load a single video to display...

Nice app, though it has trial quota and USB tethering only.
But one slight problem... still no internet connection.
Is the only way to (totally) reset mobile data operator settings by making factory reset/full wipe?:crying:

I used to have the exact same problem. However mine got fixed by editing the APN. Try clearing out the 'authentication type' and 'apn type' fields.
Thank you circuit89! My operator had sent me two setrings, internet and wap... Guess which one was chosen as default
Solution was to change default APN to internet from that obsolete WAP

[Q]Unable to access internet via browser, but possible with apps

Hi All,
My device is a Samsung SII I9100.. The device has not have had any problems until recently. I am unable to access internet via the browsers in my fone.. However, all my other non browser apps are able to access internet. I havent made any changes in settings, which might have caused this issue.
This problem is happening only when i try to access internet using 2G from my network provider(Idea). I had called them up, but they are also helpless regarding this issue. Can someone pl suggest on how can i proceed in resolving this problem?
Many thanks,

maybe 2G speed is too low and browser reach the time limit to load the page..you can always try to cancel browser data and cache (from manage apps settings) and see if it solve the problem

Maybe your 2G speeds is too low.
Try this,
Download Opera mini using 3G network
Run opera mini to complete the installation.
Then run opera mini on your 2G network, try to Google search something, if it loads, then it might be your slow 2G network causing the problem
Happy Independence Day!
There are many browser out there to try chrome, dolphin, opera and so on.
Try one of them and see if the problem persist.

I already have Opera installed. I'm facing the same issue in Opera as well
I tried clearing the cache, but that didnt help. This problem started occurring recently. Before that I was able
to get connected via any browser. As far as i remember, i havent made any change in settings that could have caused this.
Any suggestions pl...

I have been noticing that on the lg g4 and now the v10 that mobile my account shows small usage of mobile data but not the actual amount I used. I might just be a mobile thing. Not quite sure but I too saw the same thing. But I also watched a week's worth of anime on my laptop via router and only was a 20mb increase in hotspot usage.
What are your mobile settings and the app settings? Thanks

I used all the same as the stock apn except I changed to ipv4...I assume you're rooted. Did you turn off the wifi scan setting under wifi?
Yes, I'm rooted and the scanning is off. I have even emailed the developer of the app. His last response was that I need a vpn.
There must be some sneaky software tracking whether you have tethering enabled. My Hotspot Data is being used/throttled no matter if I'm behind a VPN or tethering to another Android phone.
I'm rooted, removed all of the suspicious looking system apps, and set the APN settings to what I've always used before. I'm at the point of giving up and probably just going to use another phone to tether until a stable custom ROM is released.
I used to have this problem on my old Note 4 where the WiFi Tether app was working perfectly but Tmo was still tracking my data usage. The workaround that I found was to connect to a private VPN on my laptop. I used Private Internet Access to hide my IP and then I was able to tether off my phone with Tmo no longer capturing data used. I'm not sure if it will work on my new v10 though since I haven't gotten around to rooting it yet. I think there's a free Google Chrome extension that will do that same thing and for free. I forgot the name, sorry.
On my note 3 the guide I followed said I had to change the build file in a couple spots and then it worked perfect if that helps u guys out at all I really want this but can't use a vpn bc ps4 won't allow it with online gaming and my phone all I got out here in the woods
