How is voicemail handled on the AT&T SGS2? I've got the unlocked French version, I want the AT&T voicemail app to use on my phone, having to call my voicemail is annoying and I hate it, lol. I downloaded cognition, but it didn't have the Voicemail.apk in it I know the infuse has the voicemail app, am I just stupid thinking the SGS2 has it aswell?
Please upload it for me if it does exist =] It should be in /system/app
I highly recommend using Google voice as your voicemail provider over at&t messaging.

I didn't have AT&T Voicemail on my phone when I got it, maybe you could look through the Infuse files and see if you can find an APK?

There is no voice mail app on gs2. Get google voice.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using XDA App
AT&T Messages can be downloaded. It will display text messages and voicemails.
I installed it, but it's a little different and I'm not sure I will keep it.
While I loved Visual Voicemail on my BB Torch, I was upset that the SG2 doesn't have it's own. I ended up using Google Voice and am pretty happy with it. Installed it from the Market, and it walked through basic configuration. I had to manually change the settings though, including forwarding to my GV# on no-answer, busy, etc. The one click voicemail setting doesn't seem to work, but I really don't care because I only wanted the ability to download them and listen to them as wavs. Very happy with that setup.

I searched and could only find this topic in the Samsung Infuse Themes and Apps section. Does anyone happen to have the APK for AT&T Messages? I deleted it by accident and now it's no longer in the market place?
This??
Edit: Do you mean the messages APK or a third party download?

I don't think so, last month AT&T released (silently) an app that was called AT&T Messages and it had visual voicemail and everything Txt and mms related all in one app.
Here's the site for more info: http://www.cloudservicesbeta.com/
It was released into the Android Market as a beta app, I used it for quite a while until my Atrix deleted some apps on my phone after i restarted my phone and that was one of the apps that it deleted. Now i can't find it anywhere.

Thanks for looking, it sucks cause the app was awesome! It had a website you could go to (https://messages.att.net) that had all your text's and voicemails and calls on the site as well as on the app and you could even respond to a text right there off the site from your computer. You could also download an app called the AT&T Notifier that sent you a notification on your computer when you got a text, or call or voicemail. I just can't find the app at all. The site does say that it well be available soon to everyone. It looks like they are making a Visual Voicemail app separately. (https://market.android.com/details?id=com.att.vvm&feature=search_result) Does not say when it's coming out thou.
It does seem pretty cool, I bet someone has it somewhere. Ill be trying it out once its released.
I would of liked to test it though.

The only down side to the app was that it was a little slow and it took over text messages app and put everything all in one place. Which was fine, the slowness was most likely because it was in beta.

I read the description and it says it "Your messages are stored and synced in AT&T’s cloud". That worries me a little. Also, does it integrate with Google Voice or just AT&T's VisualVM?
You have access to that cloud, which is password protected by you. The Visual Voicemail part takes over your old voicemail so i don't think it integrates with Google Voice. However this app is really awesome! It's nice to finally have a visual voicemail app from the carrier themselves!
Thanks for the response. It's not necessarily other people I'm worried about, it's more AT&T. I just know that AT&T has a lot of "government contracts" and they have a history of data-mining:

Can anyone recommend an app that will save, as a file, voicemails? I'm looking to save to SD card, for example. Thanks!
I'm pretty sure visual voicemail from T-mobile does that and Google voice sorta does it, meaning you have to download from the web interface rather than the app itself.
I don't see any save option in tmo voicemail, but I'll check out Google talk.
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using XDA App
That's a good app idea if it's possible with all the different carriers' voicemail setups. Did you search 'voicemail' in the market to see what kinda apps came up?

Why bother to add an app when you already have the Voice Recorder built-in inside the rom?
Play the voicemail through speaker and using Voice Recorder to recorded it then

Google Voice. Not Talk.
TMO VVM Works
Use T-Mobile's VVM.
Long Press the VVM you would like to save and you will have a couple of choices for saving your VM.
Forward to:
Bluetooth
Gmail
Mail
You will then have a file to download in your chosen method of forwarding with your VM attached.
-OR-
Copy to:
It will then allow you to name the file and save it in a directory of your choice on your SD Card.
Cheers.
I hope this helps.
Please keep all question related threads in the Q&A section. Thanks!

Edit:
Thanks to jpitch2415 - he/she found a downloadable .zip file that will install via ESFile Manager. Installing the .apk through the file manager that comes stock on the phone will not work.
This is for the AT&T version of Visual Voicemail and for those that prefer it over Google Voice, etc.
The link to download the file is here & also make sure to install this file with ESFile Manager from the Android Marketplace - the file to install will be located in your tapatalk download folder assuming you downloaded the file directly from your phone.
The post where jpitch found the file / information is located here:

Well, I installed the visual VM from here-
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1452330
When I open, it says call voicemail, enter pin, then hang up. Visual voicemail then tries to set up and I get a message telling me it is not turned on yet by att- It says please wait- setting up your account-then account verification has not been received yet. contact support to verify that VVM service is activated.
So I called ATT, and she said VVM is turned on, she reset it to on twice, but still, it won't set up thru the visual voice mail app. I haven't tried the ATT messaging to set it up. Just don't like it. Tech support will call in the am. I verified with her that with the LTE data plan VVM is included and she said yes.

Rather than listening to voicemails #1 through #9 to hear #10, you can just see them visually and listen to the ones you want to listen to
Some of the VVM services (like Google Voice) will actually transcribe the voicemail into text, and can email the voicemail to you.

GV and android noob here. Do you guys set GV to have your cell number forwarded to it? Or do you use the GV number as your main? I'm not exactly sure how it works as I just started to play with it on iOS. Thanks.

You can do either, but I think most people do what I do and use it just for VM. During the setup, it will attempt to change the settings on your phone that it needs automatically. Basically, it just changes the forwarding numbers.
Did some googling, searching on AT&T site -says visual voicemail is supposed to be included when purchasing smartphone data plan. Still can't figure out why AT&T Note doesn't have it or how to get it.

Don't have anything called "AT&T messages" or "messages" in my phone's app list. "Messaging" app is just for texting.

Phone: HTC EVO3D s-off running ICS/Sense to maintain appearance of being stock. At some point in the past few weeks, my voicemail app decided to vanish, possibly during a hard reset or during a drunken rampage in which I decided that all sprint bloat needed to die. Either way, I can't seem to locate a direct replacement in the play store. All I want is something to inform me of when I have new voicemails, even if it is just the standard voicemail.apk that comes with the phone. Can anyone help with this?

I'm using youmail currently, but I'm not a fan of the stock greetings and haven't found a setting (if one exists) to personalize. I get a lot of client calls and would prefer that they hear my voice instead of a computer. Thanks for the recommendation!
I think there is a flashable zip of the Sprint voicemail app somewhere. I'm on my phone so I can't search easily. You could download a ROM with the app and get it from there.
If you have Sprint, you can get into your voicemail by dialing your own number from your cell phone. Other companies might work the same way.
