Is there a way (app or hack) to enforce android to ask whether to charge or not when plugged to usb port?
It's kind of annoying that every time I connect the phone to pc it starts to charge up.. it can't be 'healthy' to the battery, can it?

It's perfectly "healthy" for LiION battery. The "it's not good to charge it before it's dead" ideology is a left over from the old days of the NiCad and N-MH and other rechargeables.
Yes every once in a while all the experts say to drain your phone battery dead and recharge it.
Otherwise, unless it interferes with your programming or development just leave it alone. It will not hurt your phone or battery.
Now, I am sure there is someone who has/will write an app that will allow your phone to ignore it was even plugged in, and that is also OK for your phone.

I'll add that it's actually better to not fully discharge - As Ibizian said, Lithium Ion does not have a charge memory and factors such as storage temperature have a higher impact. The only reason to discharge fully is to calibrate the 'fuel gauge' for the battery.

I'm wondering it would be okay to remove the Ace's battery and run it on the AC power adapter that charges the battery.
I have read about battery issues here since I got my Ace a few weeks ago. I'm a little disappointed that the charging circuitry isn't smart enough to stop current fed to the battery when the phone signals that it's fully charged. Because of that it's recommended NOT to do what most people probably do... leave their phones connected to the AC charger overnight.
But I haven't been able to find anything on whether or not it would be harmful to pull the battery so it won't overcharge, and run the phone directly from the AC adapter. I didn't realize the phone had such a great radio receiver. I'd love do for long periods of time what I've been doing briefly from time to time on battery... plug it into the audio input for my stereo and play the radio, MP3s, audio from YouTube videos etc.... but powered by household AC.
Anyone know if there'd be any issues doing that?

Btw the phone is smart enough to not overcharge even if u leave it plugged overnight. Its called trickle charge or something, when battery is 100% full it'll stop charging, and when it discharge to 99% it'll charge again till 100% and the cycle continues. Moreover when phone shows 100% charged it was lying all along, to prevent sudden overvoltage. Maybe its just 95% when it showed 100% full

Do you have any links to pages that detail testing that? I googled for quite a while and only came up with a couple hits that said suggested the opposite. But it seems Samsung and the Android OS would be smarter than that.

That sure sounds right. I downloaded an app that displays battery charge by percentage increments. After charging the Ace until it gave an audible notification, within seconds the battery indicator dropped from 100% to I think 87% and stayed there for quite a while.
Well I found a stress test on the Galaxy Ace that says, "The battery contains a microchip that protects it from short circuits and overcharging."
But again I came up with this information saying, "... never put your phone for charging over night as this may hamper the battery’s life very badly..."
There must be definitive info out there on the phone's charging circuity. But I haven't found it yet.

I am facing,lets say a issue, when charging my L920 on charger and phone is OFF. I put on charger after 2-3 minutes it starts by it self....
Does it to anyone else also? It is normal? I just want it to remain switched off while charging like this, but its not a big deal ofc.

But isnt it better for phone to charge up while its off? i mean it deffinately has less power consumtion in off state :] so it can charge better ..i guess
Seeing as the phone has a 2 Ah Battery and the charger is 1A, you can recharge your phone in about 2 hours (That's from 0 to 100 with a 100% efficiency, usualy efficiency is lower but you usualy don't let the phone drain to 0 ). The power it drains during that time will probably not affect the charging time to much, you can probably charge it in 2h 15m if it's turned on. In short: The time you would save by charging the device turned off is insignificant.

This question came up a lot when the WP7 came out (it's not a Nokia-specific issue at all).
The gist of the reasoning is that the phone's charging isn't a "dumb charger" that dumps a bunch of current into the battery and hopes it charges eventually (ideally without exploding). Instead, the phone has an actual charging circuit that tests the battery capacity & incoming current to determine how charged the battery is, and cuts off the current when it's at 100%.
This is actual "software" that runs on the phone's processor, and thus requires that the phone be on for it to work.
You'll get used to it.

For some reason my phone don't always use fast charging when I plug it in. Sometimes it will just say cable charging and takes couple hours to charge and some times it will say fast charge... Its really random.
Does anyone know why this is happening?
Using the 2.0 amp charger included will fast charge your phone.

That's what I am using but still, it doesn't always fast charge and that's why I asked the question

It has detailed charts on charging info. Maybe you can track down if there is a pattern.

check the battery setting! and try a different cable!
I know one issue was that using the included charger, if you dont make sure the cable is plugged all the way into it it will not fast charge. It will still do the cable charge, but if you plug it in just a bit harder it will switch to fast charge. Might check that.

yea I installed that too... but not sure if the info can help me figure out whats triggering the fast charging or not
If it's not related to what turt mentioned about temperature., I would consider getting it exchanged while it's early.
I got mine from best buy and they have 14 day exchange/return.
My battery temp has been max 94F.

what battery setting are you suggesting? and I can get the fast charging with the same cable... just not reliably thats why I am not sure if there is some conditions the phone needs to be in before it will happen

that could be it... and the other thing I found is if I plug it in with the screen off it seems to do the trick

no... I dont think its temp related. Last night after 3 tries I can finally get it to fast charge and the trick I think is to get the screen off before plugging in the cable.
I wonder if the length of the USB connector has something to do with it too cause I bought a extra QC2.0 charger and I can get it to fast charge reliably everytime, but the QC 2.0 car charger doesnt work for me at all with the cable that came with it. I might need to try a different cable and see

if its just unreliable forget about the setting! so you have tried other cables?! thats all i can think off! im not a pro just thought it might be that!

THANK YOU! Top reply I was trying to work out why it wouldn't fast charge, even when using the supplied charger and cable, however I hadn't realised that I needed to push the USB A end (the bit the plugs into the charger) that extra bit - Fast Charge now working and return avoided!
my phone just started the same issue. till last night it was working perfectly fine but all of a sudden when I put my phone to charging this morning, it says cable charging instead of fast charging, I've tried different chargers as well but still no luck. I thought maybe it was a software issue so I should try a factory reset. In order to make backup, I tried connecting to my laptop but windows refused to detect my device and it says your device is not working properly. Anyhow I did a factory reset (loosing all my data) still it shows cable charging. Any idea what this problem is about?

i was just about to post about this same problem, til i looked over, and my phone switched from "charging" to "fast charging" once my phone was over 15% in battery life. So thats what i think it is..... If you plug in with less than 15% battery life, it is not powerful enough to fast charge. Once it hits 15% it will be powerful enough to "fast charge". does this seem like a reasonable explanation, cuz thats all i got LOL
I've had the same issue on and off with my Edge+ and have realized there are 2 things that will help start fast charging. First is to close all open apps and notifications, second turn your screen off and wait a few seconds and plug in. Hopefully this will help
First I don't think anything is wrong with my device but just curious if anyone else noticed this.
1. Fully Powered off device
2. Plug in charger (little battery charging icon animates)
3. This is where it gets strange I let it get to 100% but didn't unplug it (left it plugged in all night like I usually do on all my devices) , next morning I check the charge and it showed 97%
so I assume the phone circuitry shuts off the charger after it's fully charged to prevent overheating or whatever, or the charger shuts off, strange why I got a 3% drain though with it completely off...
so far I have only tried with the official charger and cable, curious if anyone else had this issue.
besides for that the battery in this device seems good I can get about 1 day 1/2 moderate / heavy use out of it

I guess it could be if it runs in the background , it just was strange to me since my samsung tablet will always show 100% even if I leave it plugged in forever, maybe lithium-ion (samsung) and lithium-poly (xiaomi) have different charging rules like maybe you can't float charge lithium poly (just guessing)

Anyone else experience slow to almost non existent charging speed if the phone has been on for a few hours?
The only way it goes back to charging fast is if I restart the phone while its plugged into a charger.
I have tried using the stock charger and aftermarket ones and different cables as well. Makes no difference until restart.
Chime in if anyone has any idea whats happening and/or how to fix it.
PS: I am unlocked and rooted if that matters.
Is the screen off? Having the screen on during charging will skew the charge cycle.
Does it charge normally when shutdown?
Possible battery, charging port, or mobo failure.
Check phone for any signs of battery swelling.
Same issue here. Got the phone today, charges sloooow by USC-C as well as QI... Although it shows "fast charging" in settings. I will check, if it's better after a reboot.

Doesnt matter if the screen is on or off, I even left overnight and gained like 8% charge.
Battery seems to hold a charge fine, there is no swelling and discharge behavior is normal. Used to charge normally a few days ago.

Charging at a start temperature above 72°F?
If so it sounds like a charge port or mobo failure... sorry.
Try clearing the system cache and a hard reboot.
Try toggling fast charging on/off 3 times.

Ill have to check the temp next time I am at room temp. I was playing some COD so I was over 80F when I started charging just now. Did not have to restart so maybe its good.

Make sure the port is clean and free of debris.
Inspect and carefully clean* if needed with a toothbrush and a small amount of anhydrous isopropyl alcohol.
Lol, RO water if needed than the alcohol.
Allow to dry completely.
*I live in a dusty environment and even after 2 years never had to clean my C port. However my bdu cargo pants pockets are lint free, not all pants pockets are. In general these ports seem to stay clean but you know how that goes...

In my case it just normalized itself after a few days of usage... strange thing was, that the slow charging affected both, usb and qi charging.

Btw maybe intelligent charging. If phone can't detect a time where you don't use it it have problem adapting charging speed. If you change everyday the moment you put it on charge better deactivate that option

I only charge at night so I don't need my phone to warm up from quick charge. On my old Samsung Galaxy Note 9 I could do it, but now I can't find the setting.

The only harmful part of the charge cycle on this phone is the top-off, and you can adjust that. You could use a 5W charger but I doubt it would extend the life.
More beneficial is checking other threads for features that may drain (add wear to) the battery.

Simply use a 12 watt or less brick.
Fast charging needs a compatible 25w brick and cable (Samsung). In most phones it has to be enabled. Disabling fast charging is easy... enabling it sometimes is not

The whole point of having a feature is to use it when needed. If I am in a hurry I want to activate 30W charging with a single toggle in the settings. I don't have to bring two different power bricks, one 5W, one 30W, and manually switch between them.

you should get a new phone it's the only way to fix it because it's broken and you can't fix it when it's like that.
