I'm just confused about the 5503 part. Will it work on I5503? Are there any additional steps? Any baseband or kernel required?

Yes it will, I'm positive they are the same phone but just represented in different countries with different names.

If you are on stock firmware than you need theme for stock (odexed) rom and it must match your firmware version. But I recommend you to flash KH3 deodexed rom because there is a lot of themes for that fw.
The one you are trying to flash wont work if you are on stock rom.
great !
so where can i obtain the: flash KH3 deodexed rom?
i tried googling it but couldn't find anything
i would like to use the same one as you since you know what you are talking about... thanks
Custom roms .
Go to the DEV section read the details for each rom decide what you want and follow the instructions .

I9100G same as I9100?

Hi,
Does I9100G same as I9100?
Can I flash CF-Root on I9100G?
Does the custom rom in this forum is compatible?
Anyone tried it before?
I use a GT-9100T with no issues as baseband version KH3 of the custom rom matches that of the stock.
Have a look around in chainfire's thread for a matching rooted kernel. Once rooted, use the CWM app that's installed automatically to make a nan-backup of your original rom (if three is no shipped rom G version available for download, check intratech thread)
......That is if you decide to go down this path. Sorry can't be of more help.

I too have the I9100G DXKH4 S2 and from experience please do not use CF-Root files on the G phone. I ended up with a stuck Samsung Boot screen with the Yellow Triangle.
Some of the ROMs i tried from Intratech and Samfirmware could not be flashed and the error did not go away. Last resort was I sent back to Samsung for reflash.
Just updated my firmware to DZKI1 using Kies. Looks like we are stuck with an
unrootable phone until CF gives us the CF-I9100G root files
I sure would like to know what exactly is the difference between between the "G" and non G phone but somehow I cant find any except for bricking it

One other thing, I noticed the G phone has some font issues
1. Droidwords...In the game where you can see the points on your word played (top right), the fonts become ............
2. Papago , the mylist (saved location) fonts are extremely small
3. TouchPal Keyboard (IMHO is far superior than the stock Samsung KB) - Full QWERTY mode with Symbols and Numbers intermixed, first 3 rows are missing all the symbols and numbers. Only the last row of keys can be seen with the symbols

I need the KH4 kernel (for i9100G) to flash my i9100G back to normal..
I've foolishly tried to root it using the CF root with a KH4 kernel (for i9100) that causes the phone to be stuck at the reboot level..
Hope to hear from you soon.

First things first - Upgrade your phone to latest firmware using the official way: OTA or Samsung Kies application.
Next go through the infinite posts about rooting - pros and cons; and decide why you want to root. One wrong step and you may end up losing your phone forever.

Do one thing..If you are not able to find the relevant thread directly in the forum use Google. Just type "how to Root galaxy S2+gingerbread 2.3.3" and you would most probably be directed to some thread in XDA itself.
Besides, dont worry, just follow the instructions word to word and you should be fine. Personal experience.
Press thanks if it helps.

Just update ur phone to ics using kies or ota.
What is the difference between updating GB to ICS and then rooting and
i am having GB and rooting the device??
Can't i just root and then install custom ICS OS??
Like the other guys say, upgrade to ICS and then root - I used this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1501719
That root method is ridiculously easy.

I agree with Carlover and the others have to say.
Rooting on ICS is ridiculously easy as compared to GB. Thats the reason people are asking you to upgrade to ICS and then root.

Two important things for you to consider:-
1.dont upgrage to/flash stock 4.0.4 rom until you install a kernel like siyah etc.
2.dont ask "whats the best rom" questions.

I am in confusion now.
Kernal is a part of ROM right?
If i upgrade to ICS then i will have ICS kernal right?
Can you elaborate point 1?
My mobile current state is having GB...(i can upgrade it to ICS from service centre)
Steps which i think i should be doing
Method 1:
1)Upgrade it to ICS and root the mobile.
Once i get admin rights replace the kernal " siyah"
2)Take backup of current ROM
3)Install custom ROMS
method 2:
1)with current OS GB root the mobile
2)Replace the kernal
3)Backup OS
4)Install custom ROMS
Tell me steps are correct or Provide me the changes and the method which i should go for.
It's simple, root your current firmware by using the siyah GB version. After rooting, install titanium backup and backup every application. Before the titanium backup, install sms backup +, open it and click the backup button. It will now backup all your sms and your call log. You contacts should be synced with google. Now just download the ICS firmware to flash using odin. Flash it. Flash siyah through odin (ICS version). Now install titanium backup and sms backup +. Restore everything. Now you have ICS stock.
Whenever you flash the siyah kernel your phone will be rooted. Be careful not to use siyah GB with ICS and siyah ICS version with GB. They may brick your phone.
We are rooting your gingerbread so that you can backup all your apps using titanium backup which requires root.
That's pretty much it, enjoy your new phone.

If you want to backup your entire current firmware, after rooting your gingerbread firmware, switch off the phone and press volume up + home + power button at the same time and keep holding them. They'll bring up a recovery screen (this is where you install roms backup entire roms/firmwares etc) go to backup and restore and backup.
Feel free to ask any questions.

Best Rom doesn't actually exist. The thing is, everybody has different things they like in different roms. So I can't help you there.
Btw, I told you to get ICS using odin first so that you have a original firmware file of ICS available with you if you need it later. It's the longer procedure but It's good this way.

First of all thanks for helping this newBee...
1)I m scared of bricking my cell. So i dnt want to take single chance of doing so.
2)I can just upgrade to ICS free of cost from samsung sevice centre.
3)I am not getting a single reason to root the mobile at the cost of ICS..
It would have been the case of installing JB then i would have thought of.
Taking the backup of current GB doesnt make scence ....
What if my cell bricks may i use the backup of GB?
All the advices are welcome.
Thanks in advance..
Watever you do, don't upgrade to ICS v4.0.4. You can hard brick your device. 4.0.3 is fine. Very fine!

Why don't you just update over-the-air? (I should have said this before the long post ) If you just want just ICS without root then go to settings, about phone, software update and update from there. 100% safe and you won't lose anything, all your apps and eveything will remain as it was.
After that IF someday you wish to root the phone for some AWESOME reason. Just flash Siyah Kernel. (ICS Version).
thanks

[Q] Baseband when installing ROM.

So I wanted to install a ROM which is not in my baseband. My baseband is XXBMD5, while the ROM is XXBMG3 ( The latest version) . However my region's baseband is still XXBMD5, and has not updated yet. There are no ROMs/Kernels in my baseband anymore, they are all updated. Is there anyway to install the ROMs/Kernels?
Thank you!
You are talking about baseband or firmware version? The baseband doesn't matter that much, you can use any region's baseband with any Rom. Just be careful with the new 4.2.2 version as it changes efs and you can only use 2 (?) available baseband.
