[Howto]ICQ/MSN on the touchpad native messaging client - TouchPad General

I have discovered how to use ICQ/MSN on the touchpads native messaging client:
1. You need to have a googlemail/gmail/GoogleTalk Account
2. Use this Howto to connect your gmail account to a ICQ/MSN Transport Protocol: http://logit.yudichev.net/2007/04/icqmsn-and-more-over-google-talk.html
I used jabme.de as service provider but you can pick any jabber server providing tunneling to ICQ/MSN
3. Connect your Touchpads Messaging client to your gmail account
Voila there you go
ICQ/MSN on the Touchpad without using a emulated app
Hit Thanks if you like it
PS: Facebook Chat is also possible with this method

you may use web based client http://www.meebo.com/messenger

i found these web based clients not good in the touchpads browser. the feel laggy and the windows cant be rearranged. and you dont get notifications with web based clients. the touchpad messenger client gives you notifications on the lockscreen and the top bar. and can be running in the background without having a browser/card open.

I applied this process, and it works fine. Thanks
Two smalls issues
1. The facebook contacts are listed by their facebook ID. Do you know how to change it ?
2. I have a 'Buddies' folder, with people not exactly my buddies. How could I remove this folder ?
Thanks again for your help

you have to rename and rearrange your buddies in a jabber client on your pc. i think this should solve your problems

I tried... but I don't have any buddies directory
Only on Touchpad

Downloading Attachments from Pocket IE

There is attachment in my Hotmail. How can i download the attachments.I logged in by Pocket Internet Explorer.
What i have to do?
Pls help
You can download it using inbox of e-mail account, not IE. You`ll get notification message, then MARK FOR DOWNLOAD that message and it will be downloaded.
MS has two web portals for Hotmail ... if logged in using the mobile MSN then there is no way to download the attachement.
One trick would be accessing the normal Hotmail page (not designed for PPC of course!) but that would require you to modify the registry to update the PIE client specs to fool the system thinking it's a normal IE 6.0 browser and not PIE.
How to modify the registry to update the PIE client specs to fool the system?
or any other Browser could help.
Thanks

Gmail Offline Gears Browser

Hi,
Has anyone managed to get the gmail web application running in offline mode on the Hero?

Gmail Browser vs. Gmail App
Not sure, anyone understood my question.
I personally think that the Gmail App is actually completely obsolete. Especially when you think that it doesn't allow you to download certain attachments.
The mobile browser gmail interface is - amazing. So why have an extra application running when you can only login to gmail offline with your browser? Since the Gmail App is not integrated into the TouchFlo interface anyways?
The questions remains, why the mobile browser interface (after you click on the "faster gmail" link is not doing what it is supposed to be doing aside from having an entry mail.google.com in the gears settings of your browser?
I use Google Apps for Domains. I hadn't tried to log into my mail via the web browser, but I just tried it today.
When I logged in, I was given a message that an update was available that would was faster and would allow me to compose and read email offline. I accepted the update, which appears to be a Gears update, so it looks like it is probably working fine.
Regards,
Dave

I did the same thing and when you look into your advanced browser settings you can see that gears now seems to be configured for mail.google.com. The questions remains though, if you can login offline to your apps or non-apps gmail account? I haven't been able to....

[Q] E-Mail Sync with Windows Live not working

Hi guys
I have a problem with synchronizing my mails on my HD2.
I use a live.de-account for collecting all my mails from different providers - so far it works.
But then I wanted to sync those mails on my device. I was a bit suprised that the windows live program always showed up and took over the mail-setup from the inbuild-mailclient in windows mobile to itself.
The first synchronization worked but that was last week -.-.
The windows live program seems connected to the internet and my accountsettings are working (it can show my firstname) but when I want to sync it an error occured "e-mail login failed.please try it later".
I'm not so into this technique but I tried deleting and re-installing/configuring the mail setup. I downloaded the windows live software again (from market place).
I even wrote a support mail to windows but the answers was pretty much the same as in this thread.
As far as I understand the manual it's just synchronizing with outlook on my computer.
But I don't want a) Outlook and b)active-sync (= usb connection to my own computer).
I want a synchronization on the move with wlan or umts but nothing seems to work.
So actually I'm looking for a trick to configure my mail account without windows live software or some help to get it working with the windows live software.
my HD2:
unbranded original
latest official rom-version from htc ( Germany: 3.14.407.2)
Vodafone Germany
windows live software 10.7.0059.0600.1000

The thread there is correct. Which method are you really using? Do you set up hotmail as an exchange server as in the thread, or are you using the live client?
Sorry, but I'm not so into this.
Exchange Server?
In HTC Sense is a mail program and I use that. But when I want to configure a new account it automatically redirects my to windows live. I think windows live intercepts the setup and overtakes it because of the @live.de -ending. If i use other providers - everythings working fine without windows live.

There are two ways to connect to hotmail (aka live mail). The old method is to use the Live mobile, an application that allows you to access several live features. You get mails when you check mail, like POP3. The new method (I think it was released last year) is to use push mail. Configure it as it you have an exchange server, and set the parameters according to the link. New mails will immediately appear on your mobile. Both method should work. With push mail, you don't need to install the live mobile application and you don't need to explicitly check mail.
Ah.
alright,it's working...
sorry but I don't saw any connection between push mail and exchange server..
Ok,now I could deinstall windows live?
It's not necessary any more,right?

Correct. If you are setting up push mail (it uses Exchange Sync protocol so that's why you configure hotmail as exchange), then you no longer needs the Live client (unless you want other features, such as Messenger).
Hi Raizm and Alex,
OK ! The pushmail settings worked perfect for my with HD2 > Outlook > Hotmail settings. (with link settings) THANKS !! I tested this with a kind of 'Spam hotmail account' NOW i have a problem. I cannot change my spam hotmail adres to my real one. It is greyed-out in the settings ?!!! Also tried new account in windows live messenger but alas, still no change (possible) in my userID field....
Thanks very much in advance !!!
Peter
YESSSS FOUND IT, PFFFF
This is a tricky one. You have to go to the activeync !!! (Default Windows menu >> Extra)
There Menu > Options and then delete "Microsoft Exchange Items" with delete button.
THEN you can create a new Exchange account within outlook.
Thought I let you all know.
Thanks anyway

Yahoo imap & pop: can't connect to server

Hi all. Having been with yahoo for many many (often tiring) years, sadly this isn't a new thing, it's something that comes and goes seemingly based on the whims of yahoo deciding to change their settings, potentially to try to herd users onto their (awful) mail app. Anyway, problem:
All of a sudden, my account (yahoo plus, imap) and my mothers (yahoo basic, pop) have stopped receiving emails on our 2 android phones (samsung S3 with latest ICS, & HTC wildfire with whatever was before ICS, respectively). I've read a number of forums with various suggestions, including:
- clear the app cache
- change to a different server: most suggest imap.mail.yahoo.com but others suggest imap.n.mail.yahoo.com, imap.android.mail.yahoo.com, one suggests using IMAP4 (don't know how to select this)
- delete account & reinstall
None of these work. Peversely, I AM getting emails through on imap.mail.yahoo.com, but very intermittently. I'll notice that, e.g. overnight, I'll have gotten most of yesterday's, but if i click for a manual refresh it'll fail. Likewise if I set myself up for imap.mail.yahoo.com, it'll check the settings & be ok, but then give a connection error.
My mum's phone is a slightly different problem: she can log in fine through the internet, but her username/password combo fails for pop access through the stock email app. She's a .co.uk address, & i'm wondering if this is the reason for the problem. I suspect it's just that yahoo is having a problem.
Any thoughts appreciated for both of these - potentially connected - problems.
Cheers
Dez

Address any prompts or issues you see when signing in on a desktop before trying to sign in on a third-party email app, then send a test message.
Sign in to Yahoo Mail from a web browser.
Compose a new email and add your own address in the "To" field.
Send the email.
Wait up to five minutes to see if it arrives.
Confirm app is configured with the correct POP settings or IMAP settings for Yahoo Mail. Sometimes even if the info seems correct, the data the app saved could be corrupt or contain hidden invalid characters. Delete your Yahoo account from the app and re-add it to be sure. If you need specific instructions for your app, contact its manufacturer.

[Q] Email app which allows per-message deletion from server

I am currently using K9 email which seems to be the least bad app for POP3
This has a global config for server deletion (POP).
It is useful, when travelling, to got rid of unwanted emails there and then. Is there an email app which, when you delete an email, it prompts if you want to delete from the server also?
I have had apps previously which did that, on Symbian and Windows, but don't know of any for Android or IOS.
Another solution is an app which downloads headers only; these exist for Windows and usually have a server delete option. Such an app is handy anyway, in case somebody has sent you a 20MB email while you are roaming But I have never found one for Android. It must be dead easy to write...
Or of course one could install a second email app which is configured for server deletion and just run that for this purpose, but that's stupid.
Another solution for cleaning up the mailbox is to use webmail...
I don't think anybody reads this forum but in case somebody finds this on google, I can confirm Maildroid does exactly that I wanted.
