I installed Cyanogen today, and have been restoring various things using titanium backup. However, my long-press menu (i.e. search) is no longer working.
On the home screen, it just launches a keyboard (keystrokes do then activate search) and in apps like market a long press of the menu key does nothing. Very frustrating!
Does anyone know how to fix it?

Is this possible at all? Or already done, maybe? would it be an app that could possibly run and replace this action or does it require a rom modification to do it?
I'd prefer specific apps to always be in my home long-press popup than just the most recent ones (ex: mail, web browser, twitter, facebook etc the ones that i am typically trying to get to )
Any thoughts?
I wouldn't mind having menu long press go to the dialer app so we can have a dedicated dialer button we can use when we have other apps open. Long pressing the menu button brings up the quick search bar which we already have a button for.

long pressing the menu button brings up the keyboard ... not the search...
Long press of menu brings up search on the vibrant, try it. (i read another thread that this isn't the same on other devices)
I assume that given that Vlingo can take over the long press of the search and home replacements can take over the long press of home, an app could be written to take over the long press of home to change its action as well?
I'm not a programer so I wouldn't have a clue of how to write an app that replaces that home/recent apps pop up to allow your own choice of shortcuts
Oh yeah, I guess I was wrong... I have to many devices to keep track of the differences...

I *kind-of* got what I wanted via the app "App Launcher" (link: http://www.appbrain.com/app/net.talondesigns.quicklaunch - $1.99)
It looks identical to the popup that you get with a long press of the home button - you can select the shortcuts you want to be in it, BUT it is a long press of the search key instead. Functionally, it is what I want, but I'd prefer to take over the home button action rather than using the search button, as I had that one assigned to Vlingo.
Hey guys I seem to be having a problem with my softkeys from a dozen or so flashes ago and it hasn't been fixed. So basically if you wanted to access the task manager or voice search before you could hold either the home or search softkeys. My problem is that as soon as I hold the home key, it acts as a single press and it doesn't register a hold. Is there anyzone who knows how to fix this? Thanks a bunch!

In order to configure available settings, follow the steps below:
1. Press the Home Key
2. Press the Menu Key
3. Tap on Settings
Sound and Display in that menu you should be able to adjust the sensitivity of the touch and see if that resolves the issue
Sorry its not the intensity of the haptic and those settings don't have touch sensitivity. Im also running the newest bionix if that helps.

bump.
i still need help to fix this. its gettign to be a problem.
I'm currently running the 20120901 version of CM10 because every new NIGHTLY and EXPERIMENTAL build isn't functioning like it. In the build I have, pressing the Recent Apps button brings up the App Settings and a long press and hold on the Menu button brings up the recent Apps. In the new builds nothing I can find brings up those settings. This renders several apps I need as useless. For instance when adding a contact there is no way for me to add an email address or any other content. With no Settings button I am unable to edit the contact. I'm hoping that I am just missing something. As I find more inconsistencies I'll report them here.
Also, I thought that a function of JellyBean was the ability to access Google Now from any screen by swiping the Menu button up. This feature doesn't appear to be working either.
*Update* I fixed the problem. The CM10 version I had had the keys defaulted that I needed to use. The new version didn't. I had to map the hardware keys. Here's how in case anyone else has a similar problem. Bring up Settings -- System -- Hardware Keys -- check Enable custom actions. Change Home Key (Long Press) to Recent Apps Switcher. Change App switch key to Open/Close menu. If this thread needs to be deleted then so be it. I just wanted to make sure I shared how I fixed my own problem.
I thought I saw a video on YouTube about how dragging the menu button up brings up Google now. Is this a setting I need to activate?

1. S Voice
Using wipe flashed rom, go into S Voice setting and untick 'open with home button' feature. Then remove S Voice app with Titanium Backup. From then on whenever screen turn off while in an app or even drawer, single home button press to bring screen back on forces home screen instead of whatever app I was in.
I dont want to keep S Voice app. Removing S Voice app without unticking the home button feature only work as long as I dont reboot my s3.
Any solution to this?
2. Side volume buttons + mute
Almost every JB ROM including Poland Official is not allowing me to change from volume control down mute, only down to vibrate.
Any solution to this?
Thank you for reading

both are problems with the stock samsung rom - I believe Jkays mod fixes these two issues (found in original development - for use with deodexed/custom roms).

PRoblem is when any of my apps froze, phone not force to close. Its freezes.
Only the power button works for open screen light and off. Screen is unresponsive.
I search everywhere but other freeze issues doesn't match my problem. It happens on every rom I use. I can give logcat etc.
I found the problem is the SuperUser. I think its db not working on 4.1.2.
Try Jkay framework or 3Mint framework, they will make you capable to kill applications with long press back/menu button.
Also, if not completely dead or you can enter homescreen, long press home button and swipe it out of recent apps kills it as well.
