R800x running CM7 lagless with WIFI and 1516mhz O/c - Xperia Play Android Development

I just flashed the boot.img from FXP041 for CM7.1.0 CMDA
http://hotfile.com/dl/131943130/c47aef1/cm-7.1.0-XperiaPlay-R800x-KANG.7z.html
Then update to CM7.1.0 so you have CM7 systm, IDK but it should help with the checksums mismatch
I then restored Chevys Nandroid back up of CM7
http://www.mediafire.com/?ebnv6hws93s8k01
Im now CM7 2.3.7 with working : Wifi , Data, Text
No lag anywhere so far even with live wallpaper and trans app drawer in ADW
Overclocked at 1516mhz running fine.
Hope this helps fellow R800X owners!
EDIT : Only downfall so far is video still super speed playback
EDIT 2 : Camera does hang up after taking picture, sorry didnt fully test that out ! I tried using another camera app and the same problem, sadly no camera at all Ill try some more system mixing later and see if I can figure something out
The Developers involved in this have done a great job at getting this far. Something between the camera and the lag hopefully can be fixed, If I can test anything for anyone let me know id like to help.
If anyone else needs help feel free to pm me any time of the day or night I will help as much as I can.
EDIT 3: Front facing camera takes photos and does not hang up! video call not working for me though. Im trying to different things to get video call working

Do Touchpads work and or is there touch problems at the edges of the screen?

Oh thank god. My CM7 I just flashed today is absolutely terrible!

Testing now, will report back!

Testing now using those exact steps, flashing the 041 kernel over my existing CM7 broke the camera functions.

You have to rename the CM7 Working folder to a format that CWM understands. 10-10-11.09.09.09 or something similar.

seems legit except I still don't have camera functionality. The app loads, and makes a shutter sound when taking a picture, but no picture is taken.

Same here. Camera doesn't work.

can't be too upset though, it was a valiant effort and I'm happy to have wifi back!

can i please have some more clarification on how to flash the rom. do i do a restore via CWM or just flash via, install zip from sd card?

first put the chevy backup into the nandroid folder on your sdcard and name it accordingly in a format that CWM will recognize
I then flashed the boot using fastboot. and rebooted into clockwork recovery and simply ran chevys nandroid.

can i flash it right over FXP041, (i think that is todays build from FXP)?
or do i do a compelt restore using flash tool

I can't say for sure, maybe someone else can say... I ended up completely restoring first because I just was so disappointed with the lag in 41. Give it a shot? If you have the time, what else do you have to lose?

uh im goonna try and report back
UPDATE: YES the backup can be flashed right over (or i guess restored) right over todays release of FXP. i did not even have to reboot into recovery using fastboot. i just used the hardware button way ie: reboot and after the phone first begins to boot press volume keys repeatedly until it reboots into recovery .
AHH finally lagless. the video camera works great and feels like 720p quality. the playback is still fast. the camera show what i am pointing and all the camera settings work. when i press the shutter, the camera frezzes on the current picture, it does not FC, just freezes and i just press home to back out. so far every thing is working like a charm.
What app are you guys using to OC? set cpu or Voltage control or someother app?
---------- Post added at 09:37 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:09 PM ----------
does anyone know how to move app2sd with out losing widgets?
i remeber reading this somewhere but i forgot how to do it with CM
because if i move google+ to the sd because it is about 30 mb i will loose the cool google+ widget. any thoughts on this?
CM7 is rocking now! all restore with TB and is a daily driver

That nandroid backup doesnt modify anything. It completely replaces whatever rom you had on there before. It is FXP022 that Chevy modified to work with CDMA phones. The only thing you are adding is the new kernal.

updated post

does anyone know how to reinstall crash bandicoot again? its the only game i ever played and have all my saves backed up so if you guys can give me some info that would be great.

Looks fantastic, downloading now.
Might it be worth adding in some info about baseband patch, language support and crash system server routine?
Also, a bug I noticed in the last version prevented me from reverting to your messaging theme once I had changed it. I imagine if you haven't changed anything here I'll be able to reproduce but will let you know
Great job!
downloading now ill list if any bugs found... sooooooooooooooooo exited

wifi does indeed work reboot whilst logging into facebook so far ...worked fine second time round
all booted up google and facebook logged in and synced
downloading apps from market working (apart from angry birds and other games as before)
Wifi working
mobile data working (using bb patch on bb58 and crashing system server on first boot)
another random reboot on market will carry on testing and let the rom settle ....seems ok now
applied a theme downloaded installed then upon applying i was told the phone would reboot and it did theme was applied all fine
SD fix from last release isnt needed astro and root explorer read the Sd fine
Is wifi working? Well, that is indeed good news. Tripnraver you never cease to amaze me.
Wow another new Version? Our Highspeed Coder Trip is back to his best
dont have data connection, not even radio, dev tool bad behavior didn't work..
I can not go to the end of the phone .... I can not get the line to make phone calls ..... why?
Wow!!! What a beauty. Can't wait for the unified baseband version.
Since it contains parts of the unified baseband that won't give WLODs, I'm downloading it right now!

what baseband you on if not 49 then install the bb fix here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1011608 then crash system server again
Unless I was just wrong, I was under the impression no baseband patch would be needed? I am on 54 and could not crash the system server (it just rebooted the phone and I could not get a signal) so I flashed the baseband patch and all is good
Edit - Backup cannot restore data.

No worries, have sorted it - if anyone is having issues restoring data, try restoring desktop screens separately from other data using MIUI Backup .
As others have said, this may be 'unified' but still requires the baseband patch by the look of it, no need to reflash this ROM, just xrecovery and flash the patch again .

Q&A: [ROM-1.2/GRJ90] CM7Tab for the GTab (based on CM7 Nightlies) [Update: 08-15-11]

Q&A: [ROM-1.2/GRJ90] CM7Tab for the GTab (based on CM7 Nightlies) [Update: 08-15-11]
MOD EDIT: THIS IS THE Q&A SECTION FOR [ROM - 1.2] CyanogenMod 7 nightlies for the GTab
ALL Q&A FOR THIS ROM HAPPENS HERE.
Thanks.
---------------------------------------------------
As suggested, I have decided to make my own thread for the Cyanogenmod nightlies and other ROMs. It will make things a lot easier in the long run.
Disclaimer: as with the other Roms, Use at your own risk! Since the CM7 nightlies are basically an ongoing beta, you run the risk to brick your Gtab if you are not careful. Use to learn NxFlash first before attempting to flash ROMS. Also, do yourself a favor and get Titanium Backup! Always backup yours apps/settings and wipe data/cache/dalvik before flashing.
These will be using the bootloader's 1.2 Pershoot's kernel (2.6.32.43 / 1.4 ghz Kernel) for GB. This ROM works with the Gtab and should work with the ZPAD altough I have no confirmation of this yet.
Thanks goes out to: Team Douche/Cyanogenmod Devs for making a great ROM, Zyhong for showing me how to update to 1.2 and a few more tricks, Maxdamage for taking the time to compile the nightlies for 1.1 users, Pershoot for making such a great kernel and Roebeet for being the one that inspired me to take my journey down the Android rom lane.
1) latest version of CM7Tab: CM7Tab build 08082011 (Nightlies changelog)
2) Test CM7Tab with 4950 drivers: Test Build 08152011
Changes in modified version
1- replaced DSPmanager.apk with a previous version that is known to work (7.0.3) (if you open it, it FCs)
2- vold.fstab is setup as sdcard for internal storage & emmc for external card
3- using pershoot's 2.6.32.43 GB kernel for 1.2 bootloader (For more info, check his blog.
4- Read_ahead_kd increased from 128 to 2048.
5- Set up overclocking by default and battery saver script + cpu governors via userinit.sh (from Zyhong's ROM, based on Caulkin's scripts).
6- Replaced Camera libs & apk to stop the 8-bit pixelling.
7- Increased dalvik.vm.heapsize to 64m (07102011)
8- Set some values to improve video playback (07272011)
9- Changed values for lowmemorykiller minfree in init.rc (08072011).
10- changed EMMC to microsd (08072011)
11- updated ROM up to 2.3.5 (08072011)
12- Camera fix (08082011)
To-do list:
1- remove some apks (such as Rom manager) & create a removed apks folder.
--------------------------------
Issues:
1) Once you set up DSPmanager, it force crashes.
1) Vanilla CM7 nightly (only vold.fstab was modified): Latest build: Build 07262011 (Changelog)
If you have suggestions/ideas, do not hesitate to share them.
thank you.
Going to give it a try, tried cm7 a while ago and was great with it but seemed a bit slow. On Iluminate now do I have to flash back to stock?

personally I have been using your build for a while and quite happy with it except the market which sometime shows my apps and other time it doesn't. I have not tried any market fixes yet, so it is partiality my fault as well.

I tried it today but was getting a lot of fc's, it did seem a little faster then I remember except the boot up was really slow as I remember. I did not give it a full try because I failed to wipe everything because I was at work and wasn't really supposed to be on it. I will do it again tonight with full wipe and see if it gives better results and let you know.
I just realized you have a tab build so I will try that one. The one thing I noticed right away with cm7 is that my tablet looked like a phone and I have been jumping around from HC roms and got used to a more tablet specific rom. I will give you update in a few hours I think.
Edit: have been trying for a couple of hours now but sent me in to boot loop had nvflash back to stock, will give it another shot once this silly Tap n Tap is finished loading.

Dalingrin was kind enough to provide a fix that seems to resolve most of the problems with market (including buying apps). It was merged in build 07092011+ so give it a try and tell me how it goes.

The FCs you were getting were probbly from DSPManager. It is a known issue that seems to come from a "broken pipe" in one of the libs. For now, it is best just to remove it.
For the bootup, someone suggested moving apps to the SD card. Apparently, it would speed up the process.
I am conscious that 2.3.4 is made with phones in mind but it is a step up from Froyo and having partial hardware acceleration helps.
Just tried again and got stuck on CM7 logo boot loop, this was with the CM7 tab build. did full wipe of cache, dalvik, and user data. Not sure what happened. Restoring to Illuminate rom if you have some ideas on how or what else I can do to try this rom let me know.
Hey there Ice.
First off, awesome work on this and thank you for taking the time.
I would recommend editing the build.prop file to set the Manufacturer to HTC. This fixes the playback issue with Netflix (Chipmunk). I tested this out fully on my gTab last night and it's the ONLY setting that needs to be modified. Aside from that, everything seems to work.
Good work!
Hi
Has anyone tried installing volume+ on this rom? I'm on BL1.1 CM7 rom but volume+ does not install. If this works, I'll take the bold step to upgrade to BL1.2.
I don't know if it's just my hardware. My gtab's speaker is very soft and I want to try cranking it up with volume+ (which works on my phone running cm7).
thanks a lot.
DroidTV phone size not full screen....Anyone have other apps that did that after....
I was using DroidTV, and it was full-screen and then rebuild my G Tab with the cm7tabl-0710200-1.2 and when I reinstalled DroidTV it is now phone size display on the G Tablet.
I used Titanium Backup to restore the app and the settings. Anyone have issues like this with an app that did that after re-installing after a full rebuild? Any build.prop setting or somewhere I could check?
Thanks. Steve.
Thanks everyone for your feedback.
@Mike: I have heard of this before and wasn't sure if anyone would be interested in it. I will change that on the CM7Tab version in the next few days.
@Vhend: Yes, Vol+ works on 1.2. You enter CWM and it works great here.
@Artful: I will look into this. It might just be that the rsolution isnÈt set right. I will let you know how it goes.

Thanks Ice. Other than that I have yet to find any major issues that in the build.
Other than apps that open portrait only with the bottom on the side with the power button. Tried to say to not rotate 90 degrees but they still open that way Apps that open landscape then won't rotate to the 90 degree position but portrait apps still open that way
This is the most stable I have used and performance seems good. A co-workers has the same build, I installed it for them since they are techie-challenged, and theirs is turtle slow because I think they have Skype running all the time.

sorry for not being clear. I did not mean pressing the volume+ button. i actually meant this app to boost the volume of gtablet.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1023433
I guess the app has dependencies on dsp manager, that's why it did not work on my B1.1 cm7. Since you have replaced the dsp with a workable one in your rom, I would like to check if the volume+ app works here.
Appreciate your work on the rom!

Actually, I think it has more to do with a problem with one of the audio libraries. I did a logcat and it seems something called AudioFlinger can't set a parameter properly.
If anyone can fix this, I can send the logcat to help out.
I wanted to apologize for not being able to upload the new nightly today. I had to rebuild my computer and took the opportunity to switch to a new Linux distro. Just tested the new system and all is great.
I will post Build 07172011 later this morning.
Where are the nightly's getting posted now? Thanks and this is the most stable MOD I've had on my G Tab.
Do video apps work as far as no rotation with Oovoo, yahoo, reelportal, etc? Audio work okay with chatting?

[MOD][9/14/11][FIXED] GB Touchwiz (Stock/PW) Camera v1.0: Power Button->Shutter Key
EDIT (9/14): I've had the wrong link posted for days, but it's now corrected. Sorry about that! If you had trouble with force closes, please re-download and replace the file. (I had the froyo version posted instead of the gingerbread version, doh!)
Current Functionality over stock Camera.apk:
Settings menu option to enable/disable GPS tagging for pictures (ported from EH09)
Power Button in Camera mode becomes functionally the same as the touchscreen Shutter Key
GB Touchwiz Camera Mod v1.0 - APK version
Camera.apk - Download @ MediaFire.com
Installation: Since this is a system app, it cannot be installed using the Package Installer. Camera.apk must replace /system/app/Camera.apk. You can accomplish this many different ways. Two common methods are: 1) use ADB to push it ("adb push Camera.apk /system/app/Camera.apk"); or 2) copy Camera.apk to your SD card, then use a program like Root Explorer to move it to "/system/app/". If you are running a Stock GB rom, you will want to delete any camera.odex files in /system/app/, clear dalvik cache and reboot. For most deodexed roms, a reboot is only necessary if the camera is not working correctly after installation. For more information, feel free to read through the Froyo camera mod thread.

I have tested this on my phone with PWGB Version 2.0 (Beta 3). Please use at your own risk, and please post any successes, failures, bugs, feature request, etc. Also, please post what ROM you are using.
The more feedback I receive, the more likely I will continue this project with new features, CWM files, updated camera files, etc.
Also, since I'm currently broke and looking for a job, donations might tempt me into spending more time around here . Let me know if there is anything that needs hackin'!

I'm sure it would be. Of course, they actually have the source code for MIUI, so they wouldn't need to do byte-code hacking in order to accomplish it.

Copied over the top of my camera.apk file using root explorer. Rebooted and wiped Davlik. Now shortcut is missing so I tried to readd it and it is missing from the app list. My dumbass didn't rename the camera.apk file before copying the new one so I cannot restore original. Any quick suggestions?

CM 7.1 7/17 I can pull the camera.apk from the rom, just being lazy and hoping there is an easy fix.

Haha, nope, that's the easiest fix.
This camera relies on the touchwiz libraries which are only found on Samsung based roms. It won't work on CM7/MIUI/ASOP roms.
Haha I figured. Me dumbass.
I swore my camera had the button feature, but it was not working lastnight. Guess I will restore the file from my rom.

Actually, that's interesting. Powerwash v1.2 was Froyo based. I never considered that the app might be compatible with Gingerbread and Froyo roms.
I guess I didn't need to open a new thread... hmm. Well, maybe I'll do some rearranging sometime soon.
EDIT (9/14): No wonder it worked, I had the froyo version linked! Whoops!
Im running PWGB v2.0 b3 and i just installed this and everytime i go to take a pic either with power button or on screen the flash just goes off then i get a force close message:
The application Camera (process com.sec.android.app.camera) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again
Any ideas?
If not could someone please post the stock camera apk so i dont have to redo all over again.
Thanks
Interesting... that's the rom I used when developing this hack.
How did you install the camera.apk?
The stock camera can be pulled out of the powerwash rom. Or I can upload it later when I'm at the computer.

Thanks for the quick reply!
I installed by placing on SD Card and then using Root Explorer to replace in system/app
I tried to extract the camera apk but the file is a .tar odin file and i couldnt find an "app" folder anywhere in it.
I tried the camera.apk from ComRom GB and it works half the time.
One thing i did do after flashing PWGB Rom was run the permissions.zip from the op because i was having problems with Google Maps..wonder if that has anything to do with it....

Hmm, that should have worked. I'd love to see a debug report or logcat from when it crashes, if you have the time and know-how.
Otherwise, here is the the stock, unmodified powerwash camera:

Thanks! Just before you posted i reflashed again thinking a fresh install would fix it. So i flashed, ran the permissions zip put in your apk and same thing, force close....i dont know how to create a logcat or debug but can research it.

Tips:
*Screenshot: hold volume down + menu
*status bar settings: click the three dots in the notificaton pull down ( thanks luckypunk)
*some apps we list will not just install or flash use a root file explorer like root explorer copy the app into system/app give it same permissions as the other apps in system/app then reboot you will get a message about android upgrading and you will have the new app you are wanting to install
*if you are replacing a system/app with one of these rename the original .bak so if something is wrong you can just delete the new apk and delete the .bak extension reboot and all is well

Battery:some are complaining of battery life...so i thought id add a section to maybe help out with it. not promising that any of these will miraculously make you get any amount of extra life just commonly used tips
turn off auto-brightness and lower it
turn off wifi, gps, bluetooth, and sync when not using it
turn off auto-rotate when not using it
make sure you exit out of programs when available so they dont run in the background
try using themes with darker colors some say the darker the better pulls less battery (opinion not fact so dont flame me here....)
go into apps and set the sync time on your accounts to sync less frequently
set screen off time to be lower
turn off haptic feedback, sound on touch, sound on lockscreen
try flashing a cm9 kernel and underclocking it and/or undervolting it
turn off some or all animations
try calibrating the battery
do research on software you install and use. delete apps you don't use, expecially antiviruses or other stuff that launches all the time
if all else fails set the phone down and walk away slowly.........

If usb gets up and running it might become my daily driver.
My suggestions. For usb, include usb.apk from some older versions of cm9. It's needed for cm9 too. Don't know why it's not included. And for bluetooth, try additional kernel from oleg and me.
What about gapps? Or we can use Jocker's?

[ROM][DEV] CM7 for Player 5.0 USA and INTL 3/26/2012

Beta 1 CyanogenMod 7.2.0 KANG ROM for the Player 5.0 USA and INTL
Preliminary release, less problems than before.
Please note that for now I have removed the assert that was causing problems for INTL users, but this means nothing will stop you from installing this ROM on the wrong device! Please make sure you have a Galaxy Player 5.0 USA or INTL before installing this ROM!
Instructions:
Install Entropy512's kernel if you're on stock ROM.
Do a backup!
Copy ROM to /mnt/sdcard/
Reboot into Recovery Mode
Wipe Data/Factory Reset
Install zip from sdcard
Reboot
Not that installing this ROM will automatically convert your rfs partitions to ext4 (lagfix). Except for the /efs partition which I'm scared to touch.
Known Issues:
Camcorder doesn't work
Wireless issues
Boot loop when plugged in to USB port while powered down
Fixed in Beta 1:
Camera
Vibration
Fixed in Alpha 2:
External sdcard mounts properly. By default, internal sdcard mounts as /mnt/sdcard and external sdcard mounts as /mnt/emmc. This is a better default I think since some devices may not have an external sdcard. To switch, go to Settings -> CyanogenMod settings -> Application and uncheck "Use internal storage"
Airplane Mode
Wireless seems more reliable? Not perfect..
Updated to Entropy512's overclocking kernel
TODO:
Unify with tdmcode 4.0 release if possible..
More testing. Please post your issues
Thanks to tdmcode for the help and Entropy512 for the kernel. Thanks also to noisyfox for the INTL fix.

Thanks for this!
Ok I've installed this.. I've notice:
1: wifi turnoff when i lock my player but doesnt turn on automatically
2: camera bugs confirmed
3: music in sd doesnt appear in players
Looking forward to giving this a try once more of the bugs are worked out.. good work!
Awesome job! I can't thank you guys enough for how much you are doing!
I have a INTL device and I just can't wait to help you to test it! By the way, good job!
I'm porting MIUI to G70 so I'm sure I can learn a lot from your CM7 rom!
Haha, I'm so excited!
Woooo
Thank you a lot for your effort, definitely going to flash this once it is downloaded!
Just tried it since I was curious.. looks really cool! Seems to be working pretty well considering it's an alpha build. I've never actually seen CM7 before so that was interesting.
I'll definitely be using it once its out of alpha!
Hey good job.
Is there a possibility that this ROM could also come out for the International version?

Should imagine so maybe Installing rj's kernel for International instead of Entropy512's kernel would do the trick

cm7 is the best that has happened to this player

Umm they don't work because you can't use this ROM. This is for U.S.A users only. Sorry. But I tested it, works FANTASTIC! Camera is a bit funny lol and everything is so smooth. ICS themes work Love it, great, thanks for your hard work! WiFi is also not a problem for me soo I don't know about any problems with that. One thing i do wanna mention is that GApps wasn't on here, so i downloaded that and it works just fine. It synced all my apps back in and everything is fine. THANKS!

I know, so I'm trying to fix it(maybe it's too hard for me).
I want to replace it's driver with rj's kernel...
But I don't know how to unpack boot.img....
I tried split_bootimg.pl but it don't work... I also tried hex editor but failed...
To recognize my SD all I did was remove it and put it back. The wifi is a problem for me. The camera is funny lol. A few apps. Are not installing properly. Installed Gapps and it seems to be working. All in all needs a few bug fixes, but this is a great ROM. oh, and the overclocking would be a nice feature to get working.

can not wait to test this out
edit: my wifi does not work, home menu back buttons lights not on, back camera is reversed and front camera upside down, when i press record the bottom screen flashes green and silver

I dont have any problems with sd but wifi just dont turn on anymore so i had to get back to entropy's kernel
I'll try next update
Wifi seems to be working without any issues and the camera seems to be working but the image is mirrored. Installed Gapps and the market is working again. My SD card is working normally too, although the music library seems to be non-functional.
The only issue I've come across so far is that for some reason when I installed zeam launcher it just force closes. Also just noticed that none of the capacitive button lights work.. although I'm not sure that's a bad thing.
If you have a non-USA 5.0 you can't just install this ROM and reflash the kernel, becuase the "kernel" on samsung devices contains a lot of ROM-specific files from the root filesystem (init.rc being the main one).
I need someone with a non-USA 5.0 to post the following:
outputs of:
adb shell cat /proc/mounts
adb shell ls -l /dev/block/
Then, most critically, reboot into CWM recovery and go to Advanced -> Key Test. Press all the buttons on the device and post what the key codes are (for example when you hit the Menu button it should show "Key: 139").
