If you use a usb wireless mouse/keyboard do you need an externally powered hub. The keyboard/mouse is battery powered, so wouldn't you just need a micro to full usb adapter? Any answers would be appreciated
Edit: would there be any other issues (driver, etc.)
You need a Y-cable and to provide power for USB devices on WebOS in USB host mode. This video pretty much shows it all:

Are you looking to use a keyboard that has a wifi or ir dongle? I just tried a mk320 after powering the dongle with a powered usb hub, y connection usb and some usb gender changers. Nope, don't work (doesn't work for my hdtv, which supports usb keyboards either).
It's sorta a moot question anyways since you need a plug for the hub, isn't it?
I got the hp bt keyboard and that works fine, and is small enough to lug around, and has support for cards on the screen as well as Just Type.

Hi together,
ive asked me if it is possible to use an adapter for 1x micro usb (plug) -> 2x micro usb (jack).
Could the phone handle 2 USB devices at the same time?
Maybe then it is possible to use the HDMI output and the USB host parallel?
For example to use an TV as screen and an HDD as the source for a movie.
This would be nice.
Thanks in advance.
macc
When the connector is used for HDMI I doubt it can be used as USB at the same time, I'n sorry.
Maybe in a few months cyanogenmod provides a hack, if there will be an dual adapter soon.
We will see. Thank you.
macc
The hardware needs to allow this if it'd become possible. You need a really smart USB dongle that knows how to split the HDMI output from the USB output.
Sounds a little too difficult to ever happen.
Hmm thats right. I think i still dream xD
But thank you.

it is not possible. because as stated on this forum many times before, the type of usb connection is determined by the resistor between pin 4 and 5 of the micro usb connector. the strength can tell the phone, that there is either a charger, a pc connection, car kit, jig, usb otg or mhl connection present.
and i believe, this is an important thing to keep in mind for so many things:
for instance, why the original car kit triggers car mode and generic car charging cables don't or why not just any micro usb male to usb a female will work as a otg cable or why flashing should be done with the original usb cable...
so if you were to buy or build a micro usb hub, since it has no resistor in the very plug that connects to the phone, it cannot be used for anything but charging and quite frankly, i wouldn't connect more than one charger to the phone.
however, if you want to use your phone for presentations or watching movies and still be able to use it, get a bluetooth keyboard and mouse or a bluetooth presenter or do it the other way around and use a usb input device and transfer your media using allshare. everything else is physically impossible, so neither CM nor XDA can do anything about it. the only device that can do what you want is the new motorola. it has a separate micro usb and micro hdmi port and a docking station, so you can use it as a full notebook.
Thats obvious. Thank you.

Wiki made it sound like the USB host feature that is available in ICS, flash drives, keyboards, mouse and such..
its a cool feature that allows a usb-phone connectivity. in simple we may plug and use pendrive, ext hdd with our phone, and access the files in those drives.....

Short answer.. Yes
Lapdock and hd hubs have usb ports already configured.
You can also make your own adapter by purchasing a usb otg cable and modifying a generic usb hub. The otg protocol needs to have 5v returned from the hub to the phone.
There are a couple of forum posts related to that.

that's of course possible ; atrix is a great gadget and capable of many things .
here we go:
1. first get a USB OTG adaptor cable.
2. make your 5v electric-powered USB hub ready.
3. make your USB cable ready (usually USB hub is good for mini USB cable; therefore, you need to obtain also micro to mini USB adaptor too.)
everything is ready now.
4. connect USB hub to power.
5. connect your USB cable to USB hub.
6. connect your USB OTG to your atrix.
you are all set-up.
here we continue...
connect your keyborad, mouse, usb flash, etc. to the USB hub. Voilaaaaaa mouse cursor and the keyboard as well as the usb flash are all visible on Atrix.
Have fun and enjoy it...
In case you wish, search for youtube for "Atrix OTG support"; you will come across many vidoes that verify what I just briefed above..
on top of all, get a neptop.apk and connect to the HD TV via HDMI cable and taste the ultimate pleasure of WEBTOP

Yeppppp, u r right about the clicks.
I am not sure at the moment nor can I verify where I see the USB as I am not at my home desk now, but if I am not mistaken it presents itself or you may find it under "files". Should you have not stock "files" app, then refer to "usbdisk..." folders under "mnt".
My regards,
Till yesterday there was a schematic, where did it go? :S

is this necessary to use usb hub cant we directly connect 1 tb hd via otg cable?? I searched the whole internet but cant find any guide reagarding atrix otg... Is otg working on atrix cm7??
WOW!
I just got it working in a Custom Blur-based Rom ([ROM][GB] NOTTACHTRIX 4G (v1.9.0) Updated Mar 11 2013).
I used a Power charger connected to a Innobo (average quality) USB hub. Then I connected a mouse and a USB memory to the hub plus the Atrix (via OTG cable).
The phone recognized the USB memory without any problem and the mouse works really fine.
I have´n´t tried a keyboard yet, but I guess It will work as well.
Regards. :good:

I was wondering how do you go around to surf the internet on your big screen tv and also use an external usb mouse/keyboard?
I would need a "Micro USB Host Mode Cable" to hook the mouse/keyboard to the phone AND I also have to use a "MHL Adapter Micro USB To HDMI Converter" to see the phone in the tv and both use the one and only usb micro from the phone... Is anyone using a usb hub with usb micro to usb micro connections? Has anyone tried to use a regular usb hub to connect more than one usb device? Do you need to be rooted to do this?
I guess one option is to find a bluetooth keyboard/mouse but that seems to be expensive...
Thanks!
I know that most people us the MHL adapter for hdmi and bluetooth for keyboard and mouse.
Is there a list anywhere as far as which bluetooth mouse/keyboard works fine? I hate to go that route since I will be using the phone this way at both home and work. I dont really want to be hauling the keyboard/mouse back and forth. At least if I could connect using the usb I could use bluetooth on one place and usb in the other....
Anyway, if you can point me out to where there is a list I will appreciate it...
I still like to hear if anyone is doing this just using usb...
Anyone knows a list of proven bluetooth keyboards/mouse?
Guess not.

I bought this keyboard and mouse and it works great. You can buy it for $44 shipped (they will accept your offer).
Multi-touch is a no go, but it is still pretty slick.

If you connect the MHL cable to the device and the OTG cable to the MHL cable the device can't detect the OTG cable.
How can I make this work? I've seen videos in youtube that they connect their device to the TV at the same they have USB bluetooth mouse and keyboard connected.
Anyone tried using MHL cable and OTG cable at the same time?

According to some of wikipedia entries it should be possible to use mhl and usb otg at the same time with a 11-pin mhl-hdmi adapter.
Wikipedia said:
11-pin MHL-USB Connector
The Samsung Galaxy S III uses a connector that is similar to the original 5-pin MHL-USB connector, but it uses 11-pins in order to achieve a few functional improvements over the 5-pin design.
It supports the use of USB and MHL simultaneously (note that the new Samsung 11-pin MHL-HDMI adapter also has a USB-OTG port).
Samsung’s Galaxy S III can power the MHL-HDMI adapter. Although this can theoretically also be done with the standard 5-pin micro-USB connector, the Galaxy S III's 11-pin connector is believed to be the first smartphone that supports this functionality.

Here you go.
So, it should work. But I couldnt make it work at the moment
I also got one of these 11-pin connectors and like it seems only the S3 has these adapters, so why the **** doesnt it work?? :/
I already asked sammy on facebook, just wondering what they will answer^^
Hopefully we will have some pos. results, dude.
cheers

How would that work since the micro USB connection on the mhl cable is for power / charger?
In those YouTube videos is it possible that they have the mhl cable connected to the TV and power source, and the keyboard and mouse connected wirelessly via Bluetooth?
Confused because you said USB Bluetooth mouse and keyboard. From what I know they aren't USB.

Samsung should eventually release a dock to use both so unless someone figures it out first you'll just have to wait, because if it just took an 11 pin USB cable someone would have got it working already and we'd know about it, so I reckon it might have some extra circuitry to make it recognised by the phone.
Guys, as I already posted, the connector has 11 pins, so it should be possible to use OTG and MHL features at the same time. thats the only reason sammy brought out this connector and also cause of incompability with the 5-pin connector.
So they should bring the f*ck out somethin for the phone that activates this feature.
And a big problem I have with my mhl-connector is that I cant configure the output
on my 2 TVs at home I get 1080i, (both only 1080i capable), but the picture is kinda oversized so I cant see 100% percent of the picture, only 90% or smt like this.
But the funny part is, that I get on my 1680x1050p PC monitor only 576p screen, what actually sucks So it would be awesome if I could choose the resolution I want to have. But I guess its a thing of the connector (maybe it choose the resolutions iself).
cheers
so the one in the videos using keyboard and mouse are bluetooth thru phone?

I am SO HARD waiting for THAT "DOCK" hopefully will came out any day soon.
They should do iut fast. I'm waiting so hard for everything get connected with my Phone. It will be awsome if I don't need my Pc anymore.
To use the MHL cable you must have power connected to the adapter.

That's damn funny because I have wanted to know whether that would work as well, lol.
Did seriously consider trying but as I was on holiday if they broke, I wouldn't be able to get replacement so didn't try it.
In theory I would think it could work, but only if you could somehow wire in power to the hdmi adapter as it appears to need that to run the hdmi aswell as provide power to the phone, at least enough that once the usb adapter tries to demand power to run it isn't enough for the phone to output.
As to whether this is just a a stupid guess and assumption of how the devices and being a noob, I don't know.
If you can get a micro female to male adapter with a usb splitter for power then technically I can't see why it wouldn't work if the limitations are physical as oppose to software based (whole other issue I have no clue about).
EDIT: Wow, when I started that post no one had replied, err, seems a little redundant now, lol. My bad. Also, this 5 minute wait to point this out, have seemed really long...
guess we'll have to wait for that dock.

You are going to need a USB 1.x/2.0 Female Type A to Male Type Micro-B adapter cable.
The XTZ's USB port does not supply enough amperes to power most portable USB HHDs, so when selecting an HDD, make sure it requires very low amperes.
The WiFi mouse's Windows-based adapter will not work with the XTZ unless the mouse's manufacturer can provide Android drivers. You need to check with the manufacturer to see if they have any, but I highly doubt they have Android drivers. You will have better luck using a Bluetooth or USB mouse.
You can use a non-powered or powered USB hub to gain more USB ports. A powered USB hub would be a better choice because it would eliminate the problem of powering a USB HDD. Most powered USB hubs are powered by AC adapters, but you can find some that are battery powered.
There are several discussions in this forum about USB MHL to HDMI adapters. Search the forum to find out which adapters work with the XTZ.
You cannot charge a device using a charger through a USB hub. You will need a powered USB hub specifically designed for charging devices.
Right but the question is does the Xperia z tab can be charging the some time when is connect to tv via hdmi?

Try using a Micro USB Host OTG Y-Cable with Micro USB Power for Sony Phones & Tablets from Valarm, which they say has been tested with the XTZ SGP312.
