Hey guys,
I've just updated my Samsung via Kies and it is now running as follows:
Baseband - i9100xxke7
Kernel - i9100xwkg3
Build - Gingerbread xwkg3
This is the Vodafone NZ firmware.
Is there a insecure xwkg3 kernal around? Had a look around the forum, but wasn't able to find one.
Thanks in advance.
You can use the insecure KG1 kernel to root - but you might want to wait until intratech updates the carrier firmware thread with Voda's KG3 so you can flash the KG3 kernel again after rooting.
Anything interesting in there, by the by? I'm on leaked KG6.
EDIT: Looks like it's already uploaded, but Voda's KG3 is still 2.3.3. In that case, any 2.3.3 kernel will do, just flash the stock one back when you're done (Don't use the KG1 kernel, because that's 2.3.4).

If I flash back the Voda KG3 Kernel, will this still give me root access?

Ok, I'm having trouble finding a insecure kg3 kernel to use that is 2.3.3. Can someone please link me to the correct CF-Root v4.1 that I should be using.
Thanks heaps

Noob question... Looking at kies, it tells me:
PDA:KG3
Phone: KE7
CSC: KG1 (VNZ)
When one starts messing around with rooting etc. is it a case of one firmware for all, or can one actually change the Phone firmware, but not the PDA firmware?
Hi all,
I recently got the GSII, and I must say it is brilliant, however I would now like to root it. I have Odin3 v1.85, superoneclick 2.1.1. I am not sure which file to use to root the phone. I know you can get an insecure or secure file, what are the differences. Below are the phone details, please help, thanks.
GT-I9100 Kernal version is i9100BOKF3-CL255512
BASEBAND VERSION IS I9100BOKF1
CSC I9100TMUKF1
You just need to pay attention to the last 3 characters of the 1st part of the version number, so in your case, KF3
Just get root firmware for KF3 from Chainfire's thread and you're good to go.
thanks a lot, will give it a go.
Hi,
So it is this one for me then ?
CF-Root-SGS2_XW_CLK_KF3-v4.0-CWM4.zip
Oh forgot to mention, are Odin 1.85 & SuperOneClickv2.1.1-ShortFuse ok to use to root the phone and is CF-Root-SGS2_XW_CLK_KF3-v4.0-CWM4.zip the correct file for me. Phone details are;
GT-I9100 Kernal version is i9100BOKF3-CL255512
BASEBAND VERSION IS I9100BOKF1
CSC I9100TMUKF1
Thanks
Superone Click is not needed anymore, read CF thread carefully, he stated rooting process,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
Regards.
ok, thanks. Please confirm the correct file for me is CF-Root-SGS2_XW_CLK_KF3-v4.0-CWM4.zip
Yes, that's right.
Thanks for the info, I have rooted the phone. Do I need to get the lastest verison of CWM & Superuser that were part of CF-ROOT from the market.
You'll probably have the latest version of SU in there, but it does no harm to check. CWM itself can't be updated from the market, and the manager app is something that Chainfire wrote, so you'll already have the latest version.
CWM is version 2 but CF-ROOT is version 4. There are version 4 CWM's in the market done by chainfire. SU is version 2.3.1 but on the market version 2.3.6.3 is available. SU update does not work either by the looks of it.

CWM recovery with that link you posted is v4 .
CWM manager app is version 2 that is not CWM recovery that is V 4 . I have just tested that file and installed to CWM 4 recovery .

Cf-root 4.1 on GS2
Hi, I need a little bit of help after using Cf-root 4.1 on my Gs2.
Did everthing as Chainfire decribed on the "long" instructions , phone started up fine, but no root access
I have checked and have got the right ".tar".. KF3-v4.0-C
Do I need to do anything else? I tried installing Superuser v2.3.6.3, but I got an error message that I have to " reboot into recovery mode and flash it to update your su binary"..
Anyone who could help me with that?
Do I need to do that or is there something after following Chainfire "long instructions" I have not done to get SU permissions?
Thanks
Sorry, no help needed. I messed up the first time round.. Did it right this time and it worked great.. Thanks CF..
I just updated to firmware 2.3.5, and my Baseband version is I9100XXKI4 and my Kernel version is I9100XWKI8. Build number is GINGERBREAD.XWI8.
So if i am going to flash with Odin, what do I flash? I have found a insecure Zip-files with XXKI4 and another with XWKI8, but I am not sure wich one of them would work. I rooted the phone on 2.3.3, and then I flashed the kernel, but now i'm not sure, since XWKI8 is my baseband version. I know this is a little noobie, but I want to root my phone and not brick it.
So my question is, flash with XWKI8 or XXKI4

The easiest way to root your phone is to flash CF-Root kernel.
Here is Chainfire's thread => http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399&highlight=CF+Root.
Please read first post.
For your current ROM, you should flash CF-Root kernel for XW_NEE_KI8 from 6. post.
That's all !
After flashing this kernel (by using PDA section of Odin), you will see a yellow triangle when booting.
In the second post, Chainfire described how to get rid of the yellow triangle after rooting.
The needed stock kernel for your ROM can be downloaded from Intratech's Official Firmware thread here => http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278.
You can use the XWKI8 stock kernel from the second post.
The password to extract the file is also written in the post.
But you do not need to remove the yellow triangle.
It is optional and up to you.
Good luck !
Thank you!

Yes, zergRush exploit (=> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1319653) method is also an option to root the phone.
Intratech has described this method in his first post as "Quick Root Guide".
Very "elegant", because you do not get a yellow triangle and the binary counter won't be incremented.
But as you are a "Noobie", I recommend to flash a rooted kernel (such as CF-Root kernel) to root your phone, which is more simple.
If you read Intratech's Quick Root Guide and feel confident to root your phone like that, then use this method.
If not, stick to Chainfire's CF-Root method.
It is your choice.
Well, I'm not that noob, I rooted my HTC Desire and SGS2 on 2.3.3, but I was just a little confused with this one
Hi I just downloaded and flashed v 2.3.6 XWKK5 version, however im having trouble rooting the phone, I downloaded the XWKK5 insecure kernel and when i use odin it says invalid hashtag or something. Am i using the right insecure kernel? Could someone point me in the right direction of the insecure kernel please.
Many thanks
Here you'll find the CF-Root-SGS2_XW_OXA_KK5-v5.0-CWM5.zip .
Flash it.
KK5 CF-Root or any of the latest Speedmod kernels.

Well, a new version got out. KL1. Download this one, use SIyah/Speedmof/whatever and then use OneClickRoot to get root.
Does anyone have the Secure Kernel though?
because the ones linked in the forum, are all invalid!
How Unroot?

Hi all.
I have exactly the same problem with ts. Point is that i dont want cfroot.
I just want a working insecure for XWKK5 or someone tell me what other insecure i can use for simple root.
Thanx
Hi,
Hoping some of you guys can help me out. I've just taken ownership of an unlocked/unbranded SGSII with the following details :
Model : GT-I9100
Android Version : 4.0.4
Baseband : I900XXLPS
Kernel : [email protected]#3
Build : IML74K.XWLP7
I've flashed CF-Root-SGS2_XW_XEN_LP7-v5.4-CWM5 via Odin without any hitches. I see the warning triangle indicating the insecure kernel, busybox, cwm are installed and SuperUser app appears in my app draw. However, it seems the SU binaries just will not install... therefore no root access. Current version shows as vNull and the update option in SuperUser fails as a result.
I've tried flashing the su binary zip via clockwork recovery but it just won't install. Complains of an error with the zip and aborts with status 0! I know some threads recommend to just "keep flashing till it works" for this type of error... but I gave up after about 10 tries... there's something else going on here.
I've even tried the speedmod-kernel-s2-ics-k3-18-Odin kernel ... same problems.
Even 'S2 Root.exe' complains... ROOT ACCESS DENIED!
I've repeated all this a number of times (kernel flash counter up to about 10 now) and even done factory rest, wiped dalvik, reset data etc etc. No luck.
I've read forum after forum and I'm completely out of ideas so hoping for a hand. Even if it's just to say it can't be done for whatever reason.
For now i've just flashed back to stock samsung kernel to get rid of the warning triangle.
Any help appreciated
immedeately after flashing the CF-root, before doing anything you have to open Super SU application once for automatic binary updating...
Flash CF-root LP6 or LP8 from ODIN,
also you have options to flash other Root kernels too like Siyah..

Thanks for the reply. Just tried flashing Siyah v3.2.3 exactly the same results.
SuperUser app refuses to update binary because it can't detect/see the current version and reports it as 'vNull'. Again, no amount of manual flashing of su binary works.
flash another ICS ROM from ODIN, LP9 asian version...
then root again with CF-root, finish up headache...
small correction XWLP7 bult official android version is 4.0.3 not 4.0.4

Forgive my ignorance.. but can I flash another ROM from ODIN if i'm not rooted ? Also, if I can why would I use an Asian ROM ?
Thanks

Root is not required for ODIN flash...
Among the latest ICS official versions it is reported that DXLP9 is the stable and bugfree, normally on unbranded phones, region doesnt matter if you are using english language for setup.
you can pick the best one from this thread after reading review posts in the same thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1544487
or
if you only need a rooted Rom and not require to flash any rom further from CWM, you can try any latest from this thread, these are pre-rooted odin flashable ROM with stock recovery not the CWM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1544487
@ZACQ8 Thanks for the help on this. I always asumed you had to be rooted to flash a new rom, regardless of the method used. I guess you learn something new every day.
I've check those threads out and give things a go.
cheers
Cheers @ZACQ8
Rooted and booted
Your advice is much appreciated
Nice to know that you succeeded, thank GOD..
Up guys i wanna root my SGS2 i have everything but the insecure kernel or cf root
