nope. again, think about it...what makes you think you have some kind of specific firmware?
KI8 is the latest - 2.3.5 - can be found on this forum with full instructions how to flash
it doesnt matter what you are on. just flash the firmware

Thanks a lot
So if I flash a ROM with kI8 it will automatically put me on that ?

Unfortunatly for real. Just wasn't 100% on if it put me on the firmware or I had to use/install the listed firmware. I come from htc and its not the same

i was confused about this too coming from a non samsung phone.
i believe what you would do (if you want KI8) is flash the stock KI8 kernel, then flash the cf-root for KI8.
after that you can go ahead and flash any roms built off of that kernel, or any other roms but if they use a different kernel you will no longer be on ki8

no, flash the full firmware which has the stock kernel included...you can then flash whatever kernel over the top if you wanted to

not correct at all. flashing a new kernel changes the kernel, not the firmware

KI8 IS the stock firmware. it has the KI8 android 2.3.5 OS, the stock KI8 kernel and the relevant modem
This is making my head hurt....
Ok, so if you are currently on (eg) kh3 firmware, which is the third release from august and you want to update to KI8:
Go to intratechs thread, download the KI8 firmware and flash it through Odin
You will now have the FULL KI8 firmware, KI8 Kernel and modem....all stock
At this point you can flash cf root kernel to root your phone, you may want to flash a different one, your choice. this does NOT mean you are not on KI8 anymore...you have to flash a new firmware (KI3 for example) for that to change

haha, sorry for giving you a headache. but i do appreciate the time you took to type it all out. thanks

Firstly, this is a dev forum, Does it resemble absolutely anything like a Q&A or general forum or even a forum you should be creating a topic in?
Second, There is an abundance of data on how to flash, go check stickies etc. If you have flashed ICS then you can flash GB, its the exact same process.
thanks for your responses.
im from colombia, and my english is poor
restore your backup if you made one!!
wipe data/cache/dalvic/ restore
Just reboot in recovery, wipe everything. If you have a rom on your sdcard just flash it. If not use the restore method if you have a backup. Simple as that

Install Kernel CF-Root, install rom from SDCard or Install Stock rom from ODIN

not look for a kernel with all XWI4 name with one that is only I4, it works.
Example:
the kernel was UHKI3, and use an insecure Kerne XXKI3
Well, stoney73, as I read you can't have ROM Manager if you root with CF, and I like ROM Manager, because I rooted a Motorola Defy and I have ROM Manager on it.
Try this thread
Thanks MistahBungle, but I do not see any I4 insecure, only original.
That's funny, because when I click on the link that says "Post was getting large, so older versions have been moved to here GT-I9100", it takes me to a great long list of older kernel versions.
And you'll never guess which insecure kernel is listed/available for download ? Yep, KI4 insecure.
Funny about that, eh
Edit to add - Anyone who reads this & can read/search and has a spare 30 seconds, please take the time to click that link in Odia's thread and confirm to the OP there is indeed an insecure KI4 kernel available for download on that Hotfile page. And then slap the OP with a large trout old-school IRC style for me.

Thanks for your support MistahBungle, but I've asked Odia to send me the insecure and the original XWKI4 Kernel, and he sent me the download links.
He shouldn't have sent you the download links.
Why ? Because the kernel you were looking for was available by clicking the link in his thread I gave you a link to & going to the Hotfile page where he has all the kernels listed available for download.
The fact you were unable to perform that simplest of tasks suggests to me you shouldn't be messing around with your phone in the first place, wouldn't be surprised to see a "Hlap mai fone broked" post from you in the very near future :-/
And what if say that I successfully rooted it? You don't know me so you can't say that I'll brick my phone!
Can't you understand that I can't see them? And this is because of my browser, not because of me! I opened the thread with Mozilla and I finally saw them. I don't use Mozilla very often and you can't say that I am not intelligent only because I'm Romanian and I'm not American. And you can't say this because you don't know me! Let's get this over!

[Q] Some doubts about installing new ROM and Root on Samsung Galaxy S2

Hello everybody,
I'm going to install a new ROM - it was advised to me frankstain XWLA4 ROM - and I still have some question about installing that ROM:
1- which do I install first: the firmware or the kernel? And in Odin, where do I put Kernel?
2-Is it "safe" to install frankstain XWLA4 ROM? Would I have errors on my Samsung Galaxy S2?
3- how can I wipe my device (to clean all Vodafone ES "rubbish")? Should I do the wipe before or after installing the ROM and flashing my device?
4- By installing Stock ROM and CF-root I won't change the kernel right?
Thanks.
yellow simbol is not error. u get it when u put custom rom. but u can move it. chainfire make app for that.

In fact my main question is: which do I install first: the firmware or the kernel? And in Odin, where do I put Kernel?
The others I think I know the answer but this question is essencial so I can start to install the new Firmware.
LA4 is very stable I've been running it for the last two days with no problems. If you flash a CF kernel you will have a different kernel but it will be as close to stock as possible just with a couple of extra features. You can down load the the original firmware/kernel from intratechs thread. All you need to do is flash a frankesten LA4 from intratech, it's all in one so you just use pda in odin.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
Thanks man but I don't know what's LA4 ROM... and a buddy of our on anoher thread recommended me frankstain XWLA4 ROM and so I would like to install it.
For example, in this case:
"XWLA4
Android 2.3.6
There is no carrier branding
This package has: PDA: XWLA4| Modem/phone: XXKI3| CSC: XEUKH2
Download: http://uploadmirrors.com/download/3V...I9100XEUKH2.7z
XWLA4 Stock Kernel: http://uploadmirrors.com/download/0M..._I9100XWLA4.7z
Password: [email protected]
"
What should I install first? Kernel or the firmware? And where do I put Kernel on Odin?
Thanks.

Yes. Those "Frankenstein" packages are stock, except Intratech mixed and matched the PDA, CSC, and modems. They just won't get recognized by Kies as a valid updateable firmware because of this though.

Flash an unbranded stock firmware. Post #2 above the Frankenstein firmwares of the same thread. Or the Frankenstein ones. The only difference is the non-Frankenstein ones will probably be recognized by Kies as upgradeable, and the Frankenstein ones will probably not.

Wrong. If you install just stock ROM, yes. CF-Root is a custom kernel, so if you install that, you ARE changing the kernel.

As above, most if not all firmwares come with a kernel. If you want a custom kernel you must flash it AFTER you flash a firmware. Else if you flash a kernel first, then the firmware, then the firmware's kernel will overwrite the kernel you flashed first.
Kernels generally go in the PDA section of Odin.
EDIT: I think I see your confusion. You're wondering about the "stock kernel" link that's right below the firmware link. Right? Well that's there just in case you need it. For example, if you flashed a CF-Root kernel, and wanted to flash the stock kernel back. If you never end up flashing a non-stock kernel, then you won't need it. But I'd download it anyways, just in case you need it later.

1.XWLA4 is 2.3.6 so if you want to install a ROM with this Firmware and you are already on 2.3.6 then you dont need to flash anything.Root and flash the ROM.You need to flash a 2.3.6 firmware if you are on 2.3.5 for example before flashing a XWLA4 ROM.
1A. A kernel goes in PDA in Odin.
2.Its safe to install any ROM as long as you follow the instuctions that the Dev provides. You will have problems if for example you are on,as I already mentioned,2.3.5 and flash a 2.3.6 ROM.Always flash a ROM thats compatable with your Firmware.Frankenstein has firmwares not ROMs.Developers have ROMs.
3.To get rid of carrier apps all you need to do is flash a Firmware or custom ROM.Thats all. After flashing a Firmware its a good idea to do a factory reset.
4.By installing a CF-Root kernel you are changing the stock kernel for a root kernel.Kies will still work with a stock Firmware and root kernel.Kies OTA updates will not work with a custom ROM nor updates via Kies.
You diserved many thanks man
EDIT: I think I understand what you're saying... As my actual firmware is 2.3.5 and I have a stock Kernel (I never touched it since I have my phone), I just have to install the 200MB file on Odin with the 2.3.6 firmware and that's ok?

*sigh*... I'm understanding. It's pretty clear you are not.
Please read the "Edit" portion of my post above again. You don't need to install the kernel at all. That kernel is the stock kernel. It is already in the ROM. The only reason it is linked separately is if you flashed a different, non-stock kernel, and later wanted to flash back to a stock kernel.
If you DO want to flash a custom kernel, then you will ALWAYS have to flash it AFTER you flash a ROM. Because the kernel that is included with the ROM will overwrite whatever kernel is on the phone.
Savvy?

Not if it's stock. Depends on what he was talking about. Some custom ROMs require you to be on the same base version (i.e. 2.3.6) before flashing them.
You should be able to flash the stock XWLA4 ROM right now, if you've not updated your phone at all yet.

Yes. As stated, the only difference on Intratech's official firmware thread between the fully stock ROMs and the Frankenstein ones is he mixed and matched CSC and modems with PDAs on the Frankenstein ones. While this doesn't necessarily affect the operation of the phone, it will keep Kies from recognizing it as an updateable phone.

I have no clue what you're talking about. So I can't help you, sorry.
EDIT: what are you trying to do, exactly?
Look at this topic: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
On Frankenstein Firmware's it says:
"For MultiCSC packages you can change between csc by typing *#272*Device IMEI# into the dial pad and selecting the csc of your choice and press install. It will reset the device."
So I installed a Frankenstein firmware and to install my country CSC - Portugal - I have to do something else right? So I've done *#272*Device IMEI# in order to install my CSC and it always shows "ATL" and doesn't let me write "TPH" - the letters for my country - and if I click on install with "ATL" letters it says it needs only 3 letters!
I want to install my CSC so I can browse the Web and receive MMS on my Samsung Galaxy S2.
Thanks again.

That will work if you have a multi CSC pack and the Firmware that you have installed does not.You cant type in your CSC,you have to select it from the list. Not all Frankenstein Firmwares have multi-CSC packs thats why at the bottom of the page there is a list of other CSCs to flash at your own choice. If you look at the Firmware you have flashed to your phone (XWLA4) it clearly states "CSC: XEUKH2" which is for the Great Britian region. At the moment the links are down so you cant download any CSC packs so the only way to get your countries correct CSC is to flash a custom ROM that has a multi-CSC pack built in like I did.As for the ATL question...you said that you had an S2 from spain,correct?!..well ATL is the product code for Vodafone Spain.
EDIT:you can browse the web on another countries CSC although it may not be as good and MMS settings are provider set.You could flash XWKK(2.3.6) which has a CSC pack for the Netherlands but normally also a KOR one too.The KOR(KOREA) CSC works fine for Spain and Portugal.I would suggest a custom ROM to get the best out of your phone. There are a lot around.

If your referring to
"(4) Customized firmware
If unofficial or customized firmware is installed in the mobile, unexpected problem can happen during upgrading"
Thats why I want to go back to stock.
They don't expect you to flash the firmware via CWM or Odin. I don't think it will be necessary to flash a stock rom first

wouldn't it be best to wait before flashing the official one through kies mate. cause you are only going to after a few days when all the custom official ones be released going to root your phone again. i was thinking the same but i am going to hold off for a while
Good luck getting official firmware updates via Kies if you're running non-stock firmware

Dear All,
I have flashed with a stock rom from below mentioned article
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
Still my Samsung S2 is not recognized by Kies.
Kindly help.
Thanks
Pavan
I can think of 2 possibilities why it might not work.
-wrong CSC: find your country's CSC and change yours to match. Here and Here
your ROM must have your CSC or a Multi-CSC where your CSC is included.
-"Zombie"-ROM: A ROM patched together from different originals, e.g. a good stock kernel from one ROM with a good modem from another ROM. This shouldn't be, because you took an original from intratech's Thread. But if you want, you can also try this.
I hope this helps.
If I am Orange UK stock do I just find the UK Stock XEU and put it on?
---------- Post added at 10:58 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:35 AM ----------
At the moment I have
PDA: I9100BVKJ4
CSC I9100ORAKJ4
Would
I9100XWKE1
MULTIXEUKD1
Work ok?
It looks like you already have an ORANGE-ROM. what exactly are you trying to do? If you want to get rid of the orange branding, what you have there looks good.

Don't you feel kinda stupid after beginning a thread with an OLD question and then having to post on that thread that you found your answer within that same forum from a thread that is stickied and out there for everybody to use

Problem Rooting SGS2

i handed over my phone to my Phone Provider to fix an issue and they also upgraded my phone's android version to 2.3.6 (since the ICS still not supporting Hebrew) and when i tried to search for a kernal version i couldnt find a matching cf-root to my kernal version..
my kernal version is LC1 after searching this forums i did see somebody saying that its non rootable but that was a while back... i want to know if there is any way to root this kernal.
Thanks in advance.
Amir.
Try oneclickroot or flash another fw??

By rooting you are already void your waranty...
by flashing a insecure kernel you will get a flash counter +
By flashing a cutom kernel like Siyah your stock hebrew supported firmware will not be get effected, it will be there as it is..

Then bad luck, this is not leaked yet to enable devs to make a CF-root and insecure kernel I think
there is also no original kernel available for this firmware, if you flash someother custom kernel and if something went wrong to go back...
if you wish pick from here any other rom for Israel available, might be hebrew supported...
