What S/W Version is currently on the device? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What S/W Ver are people who have the phone currently running? Any recent OTA updates?
May have a present for users. No Guarantee

What? No one knows? Pretty simple question.
Once I get an answer I may be able to change things a little. I just need to know because I don't have a GSII.....

KI8 2.3.5 seems to be the newest samsung rom, or 2.3.7 with cm7/miui.

As its a Question in the wrong forum but i will answer its simple most people with SGS2 are running what came with the phone . XDA users are running many and varied firmwares . Latest release for some is KI8 no releases this month .

[Q] Quick question with flashing ROMs

So last night I rooted my Samsung Galaxy S2 and I’ve got a few questions regarding various things that I havn’t been able to find through searching around on the forums. If the answers are around the forums and I have missed them I apologize and hopefully you can direct me there.
1. Since I used chainfires rooting method. I’ve used Nitrality’s app to ‘backup’ my /efs and something else it backup up. Here I’m wondering if I use a custom rom such as “Lite'ning Rom v6.1 XXKH3” will the things I backed up with Nitrality app restore my original ROM and Kernel incase something hardware wise fails and I need to send it back in to claim on my warranty.
2. The second question im asking is regarding various Custom roms, if I choose to flash ;Lite’ning rom, will I be able to since it states it’s;
based on I9100XXKH3 firmware
baseband I9100XXKH3
The baseband I’m using is XWKE7, will I be able to use this rom?
3. since the version of android I have is 2.3.3 and majority of the Roms need 2.3.4 will it work correctly? If not and I have to legitly update to 2.3.4 will it successfully update since i've rooted my phone?
Hopefully you guys can help answer my questions. Thanks.
bump because I really need help :[
- Litening ROM is based on KH3 ROM, that doesn't mean you need to have a Stock KH3 ROM. So yes, you can install it.
- As I said it doesn't matter what ROM you currently have to flash a 2.3.4 ROM.
- Don't know about the Back up issue, sorry.

[Q] Android 2.2 update to any higher version?

Can any phone running android 2.2 be updated to 2.3? Or is it just a specific list of phones. The phone in question here, is a Samsung Galaxy Q. It's running stock 2.2. I would like to update it but there don't seem to be too many instructions on the internet.
Any ideas...?
I think Samsung didn't make an OTA for your phone so there could be the possibility that they dropped your phone... . Nevertheless if you root it, you can put 2.3 on it manually by flashing a rom. (but this depends if there is one available of course)

Moving to Q&A
Can we upgrade micromax A35 to its os 4.0.1 ICS
if there is any solution to upgrade this
Unfortunately, Samsung did not upgrade our phones to 2.3. They dropped support altogether. I owned this phone and there is no way to upgrade it since it isn't a common or high-end phone. However on the bright side, you can root your phone and even unlock it (I did this). Depending on where you live, you probably bought it unlocked .
There is a thread here that discusses this phone. At most you may be able to flash a version of the same ROM without carrier apps if you're in the USA. Other that that, there really isn't anything for this phone. I might be able to search up the links for rooting and that XDA thread if you're still interested.
Good luck!

Yeah you can install , since you have I9100 . Not G
But my recommendation for noob , please dnt install leaked version.
Leaked version having lot of bugs, so better you can install latest Gingerbread stock version from sammobile.com or you can find from original developer section
Please stay with gingerbread , until ICS stable version release from samsung.
Agree 100% with the last post i told you its a leaked beta test rom and its buggy .
You can flash if you so desire its up to you and likewise any problems it may bring .
Plus as its not a Samsung release you void your warranty .

you should not set
XXLP2 - some minor issues, but all in all, moving in the right direction
Not for people who don't have a spare or test handset. This is NOT ready yet for everyday usage. Don't do it or you'll just complain and that does no-one any favours.
This release does seem slightly more buggy than the last release XXKPA. Personally finding more FC's than previous version as well. A slight step backwards, but more features in general work. It's just the forced closures of apps which previously wouldn't happen as frequently.
Also, the HSPA+ not working is still an open issue. The handset moves from 3G to HSDPA no problem, but fails to open HSPA+ still. This limits the handset to max 7Mbps when not on WiFi.
Wifi still doesn't always automatically more onto the the remembered (WPA set-up) networks if an open SSID is present, it will try to connect to that open SSID as a priority over the secured network. Have to make the phone forget the open network before it'll move onto a remembered SSID. Occasional, make it forget, move to flight mode and then flight mode of and you're in business again.
These aren't major, just tend to be little annoyances.
Keep up the good work sammy...

S2 upgrade - Not so simple for me

I have Android version 2.3.6 on my phone. I am not quite sure how I came to do that. Given the following information what would be my best way to upgrade to ice cream sandwich or should I wait?
Android version - 2.3.6
Base Band Version - I9100XXKI3
Kernel Version - [email protected]
Build Number - GINGERBREAD.XWKK5
Also, if I wanted to get back to stock how would I go about it? Does anybody recognize what program, firmware or rom that I used to get to 2.3.6. My apologies if my questions appear stupid but I have suffered brain damage from a aneurysm and stroke that have left me a former shadow of myself.
If you need to ask, you shouldn't be trying. Wait for an official release via Kies/OTA. Current Samsung I9100 ICS releases are leaked and buggy, i.e. not official.
Plenty of posts on this... please find read through a few current threads... If you still have questions come back
thanks

Hey, I will not suggest you to use ICS(Ice Cream Sandwich) for "everyday use", it's not officially out for S2, so it's still BUGGY. Latest 2.3.6 rom - XWLA4, is amazing, fast and battery friendly... but if you want just to see what's going on with ICS, you can always try and after, without problems come back to your 2.3.6(if you do everythink right =)). So I will recommend you to go to
Galaxy S II Original Android Development > [ROM+Guide]Official i9100 Firmwares KG, KH, KI, KJ, KK1/2/5, KL1/2/3, LA2,4 Download posted by Intratech
and read carefully... and GOOD LUCK =)
Here's a few pointers that might help you avoid a lot of problems people seem to have when they start out:
Always make sure that what ever you are flashing is compatible with your particular model of I9100.
Backup your EFS with hellcats kernel companion (or similar).
Perform a nandroid backup before you start flashing.
Don't use the repartition or PIT options in odin.
Take your time and read up.
If you fancy trying ICS go for a rom based on the latest build LPB, it's almost good enough to use on a daily basis, it's still a bit buggy though.

Stick with the build you have for now until ICS is released all we have are buggy test roms .KK5 is a decent enough build .
If you upgraded its either official via Kies or you used the stock rom route below .

thanks for the replies. I have probably read several hundred pages on 3 or different forums. I take the good advice and wait for official release of ICS.

Upgrade to Android 4.0.3?

Hello, I have a Galaxy S II, I want to upgrade to Android 4.0.3, which firmware you advise me.?
I want a future that would allow the update via OTA and the Kies.
Sorry for the ignorance and Parabens by the Forum.
My version is low!
this BADLY needs to be moved to the Q&A section. Development threads only in this section!!
If you want to keep all the official update methods then you will just have to wait on Samsung. Flashing one of these voids your warranty....

Stock is better than any of the ICS builds currently available for me.
New CM9 build is highly recommended.
Edit: Apologies disregard. Kies/OTA requirement spotted.
Regards
I guess its easy to summarize that there's none currently, as the ones currently available are leaks and not officially released by Samsung, and therefore, you won't be able to update through OTA or Kies.
Wait for a few weeks for the official version.
