Is this hardware or software problem on xperia mini ?
Which button problem do you mean? Without more info no one can give you an answer.

Some people have problems with them, i however dont.
It seems like some countries are getting different quality phones, i have yet to hear a german mini pro owner complain about the hardware buttons or the touchscreen.
Indians or east-euro countries seem to be the most affected

Just take a look at the LG Forums. 90% of the people complaining are Malaysian / Indian / Philipinos
It really seems like some countries are getting cheaper hardware -_-

come one maybe 1 or 2% of the phones has the problem. is your luck that bad?
My Active was activating back (or home) and menu like crazy yesterday. Every app closed really quick, and back at the home screen the menu (add, wallpaper, theme, settings) kept rapidly opening and closing. Turning the phone off and on helped, but I suppose it will come back later.
The situation: about 30-40 minutes outside in 5-6 degrees C in my jeans pocket, then 5-15 minutes inside a cafe before it started acting up. I was trying to take a picture with the stock camera app when I noticed the problem.
Seems like the mini pro doesnt have any of those probems *knocks on wood*

Hi! I had this problem a long time now.
The keyboard background light is stronger on the left side, than on the right side of the keyboard.
Am I the only one with this problem?
Please can someone help me.
Regards Paul
Same issue. I was told to reflash but I haven't done that yet.
Same problem here =(
On my keyboard right side has almost no light. And vibration is not working. So I just turn the light off.
got exactly the same problem, dont see how a reflash or hard-reset would help.

it won´t. it is a hardware problem.
you could probably try take it back to the retailer you bought it from.. They might but most likely won't do anything.
Got not problems here. Had this phone for 2 months now. Maybe it happens over general wear and tear?
mine is at the TS atm because of the keyb light and wifi problems. i'll let you know if they solve the problem

I would attribute it to the overall build quality and not to wear and tear, as mine lost vibration and got problems with keyboard light in less than 2 weeks, during which I practically never used the phone.
So if almost everyone has it, maybe It's the placement of the LED in the keyboard?

i am planning on buying XPERIA MINI soon but i've heard that it has few problems(global) like
* battery overheat
* strange activity of capacitive buttons(menu & back button start without even touching them)
due to these problems the phone seems barely usable
is this true , if yes did installing cyanogen-mod rom solve this problem ???

Like you, my last unit was wildfire and it wasn't charging, there's a problem with the mobo and the warranty is expired a week after it happened that's why I chose xperia mini with Adreno 205 compared to wildfire S adreno 200.
Other users are definitely having problems with the capacitive buttons namely the back and menu key. So far, I had my xperia mini for over 3 weeks now and it doesn't have that problem. Honestly, I'm worried that the problem might show. However, from the moment I had the unit, I charged it overnight and been doing it ever since. I've been playing games with it like nfs shift for more than 30mins and the battery doesn't overheat the same as with charging it overnight. Overall, it's a fairly powerful phone and can play HD games with no lag at all. The only thing I don't like about it is sometimes I struggle reading texts while using its browser.
And oh, the sound(xloud) is awesome especially while using its stock earphones.
thank you for the info ....i am going to wait until sony finds a solution to this problem
you are quiet a lucky one ...i hope you wont have any such problems with your device

Maybe does not seems to be so bad, but it's even worse: ST15i become totally unusable, when the capacitive buttonns are going crazy.
My phone has worked just fine for more than one month, but now it works only until the temperature goes above 34-35 celsius degree. Then the capacitive buttons starts activating, and the phone does not respond to any other command untill the temperature drops below 30 degrees.

I also bought my mini september 9. And so far so good, as it doesn't give any of the capacitive buttons malfunction.
Me too bought this about 1 month ago and didn't have any problem. the only problem was LCD brightness which was flashing sometimes in medium light places. but it solved after upgrading to 2.3.4
it's a good phone with many good features and suitable price
well, can we put some geographical or Weather classification here ??
i mean hot countries having this problem, while COLDER ones not having them ???

Yes, I have searched the forum but only found old posts, nothing pertaining to ICS about this.
I've had this problem since 2.3, and it's kinda annoying.
When I press the unlock button it takes around 2sec for the phone to wake-up.
I thought this was supposed to be fixed in the verisons after 2.3, and now I have 4.0.3 and it's still present.
Anyone else have this problem?
Is it a Google or Samsung problem. Can it be remedied?

I have same problem with any stock or custom rom and is verry annoying.
It's normal. I use CM 9 and I'll hit the home button on my sleeping phone now...and it took around 1 second to wake up.
There isn't anything you can do about it.
As Riz said last month, would you rather your phone deep sleep & conserve battery when you're not using it & take a second to wake up or would you rather have a permanent wakelock & resultant battery drain in order to have it wake up in a few tenths of a second ?
I mean, we are talking about a second here. Not half a minute or something.
Yay! You got a new sig!
It always makes me wonder what people expect with these threads....it's like when you wake a pc up - it isn't instantaneous...and is a second really too long to wait?
Yeah I couldn't resist ;-)
Yep you're right. People do expect too much sometimes, as you said, how long does a PC take to wake up from hibernation ? Phone takes no time in comparison.

Actually seems like it can happen with any button. Just rub your finger at the back of the transparent strip and eventually a touch will be registered. I have a feeling this is not a hardware flaw but merely a ridiculous design flaw from Sony.
Can I please have more people who can try this? Maybe this was the way it is from the beginning and I just didn't notice it before as this phone hasn't been used much.

I've had a similar problem, exept it wasn't similar at all. I had haptic feedback enabled on the softkeys, but when I pressed a key, it vibrated twice. Doesn't happen in cyanogenmod, though. I had to make an account just to reply to this when I was finding solutions on google. A bit late, but yes, i'm having the same problem too. I've only had it for a month as well and i'm starting to get really frustrated. The buttons on the transparent bar automatically 'responses' to itself. Don't know what's the problem. I can't lay my hand or hold it on the back of it either. It gets all 'spazzed' up.

If there is no known solution, and you've already decided to live with it, why not buy a case for your xperia p? one that covers the back of the soft buttons. Without being able to touch it from the back, you won't have the problem again, and even forget about it.

I have two Xperia P (mine and my wife's). My wife has no problems with the phone. I have two months of use there was a problem with the key "Menu" (which is triggered randomly.) But I noticed that if you turn your phone off for a few days, the problem disappears temporarily. Maybe it's a hardware problem with overheating phone? (Sorry for my English, I used google translate )
---------- Post added at 12:49 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:56 AM ----------
Guys, I blocked "Menu" key and remap the "Focus" (short press on the "Camera") to the menu. So the problem is solved for me.
how did you remap it?
Because I have the same problemm since today.
Everything I tried results into nothing.
I just can't use the home button anymore.
That's really driving me crazy :silly:
Is it just my phone or is the touch screen a bit too sensitive? All I have to do is hover my finger over the screen and it registers a touch - which can get old when you're typing. I only noticed it today though. Anyone else?

That's the first thing I checked; glove mode is off. It was worse last night then it is this morning. About the only thing I did was flash back the .69 stock kernel to see if that made any difference. I know that between the rom and custom kernel, there are a number of customizations going on. (not insinuating anything about either - just trying to eliminate possibilities if this isn't by design). Plus I shot a mail off to Sony as I saw a few people on their support site mentioning the same thing.
OR I could just be OCD lol.

I know that's what it sounds like - but both of us have checked and glove mode was off. Anyway, I flashed the stock kernel (.69) last night and it's not so bad today. Whether there is any correlation w/ respect to that is another question.

Possible solution
If this problem is still an issue: This seems to be a problem with most Sony devices snapdragon 800 and up. In the Xperia Z Ultra forum what we did to solve the issue was to root the device. Then use root Explorer then go to system>usr>idc>open "max1187x_touchscreen_" and change this line from "touch.filter.level = 2" to "touch.filter.level = 5". That's it. All that needs to be changed is one character. Seriously.... SMH Sony.

Problem still persists for me. Changed to 5, then rebooted, and i can still hover my finger and registers as a touch. I'm on Carbon though, is it stock rom only?
Edit: after a couple more reboots, it's working! Not too sensitive anymore. Can I change it down to 4 to make it more sensitive? Is it like a scale? But it did screw up some other things, xposed doesn't work now.. Will have to find out why.
Edit2: no I can still hover.. Maybe it was working, maybe it was placebo.

It is like a scale and 5 worked great for us. I don't know about anyone else but I did this on the stock rom. Maybe you could try 6 or 7? Definitely wasn't a placebo for me. I Couldn't even use both fingers on the screen at the same time without this mod. I just couldn't play games at all because everything would lean to one side just because of a little dirt or moisture. I could not even send messages and right now I'm typing this reply on my z ultra gpe.

Touch Screen issues #MotoXForce
Well I just got a Moto X Force ( Marshmallow 6.0) and I'm having an issue with the touch screen . It happens about 9-10 times a day . maybe more . and it's random from what I have noticed .Thing is , *sometimes* I would approach the icon of an app( or a button to click on a website) with my thumb/finger , and the touch is registered wihout even me actually physically touching the screen yet , not saying that something else opens up ,no, only that app opens up which I was about to , initially , but I'm pretty damn sure that a lot of times it has happened while my finger is still approaching the screen , I.e. hovering over the touch screen. Anyone here got that one ? Would be great if i can get some clue .
Thanks!!

Thanks!!

Well , then , either its the firmare (Hopefully ) or that the screen is defective ( OMG Please no ) , will reset the phone a couple more times and see what comes up , maybe wait for an update from google on the software side , visiting a service center would be my last resort , people at the service centers in this country are more clueless than I am , they'd just try and wouldn't be able to do anything but damage my device further and wouldn't even claim they did it leaving me no choice other than to get a new phone , thanks for the concern tho !
Hi guys,
is this problem / random glove mode activated still exist on .575 ??
My Z2a (running on .575 MM ROM) still face this issue. Sad.
My devices is not rooted, so i can not try to edit screen-sensitivity related file.
