Hi
I just had a Htc hero and I want to know if I can update it. (I'm new to Android)
I know it have 2.1, someone rooted it (I don't know whats rooted) and granted me superuser.
Now I want to update it because I heard it's faster, have better keyboard, etc.
But I can not official update with the update option in the phone.
Someone told me my version of something was to new so I had to downgrade it so I could put a rom.
So I want to know, whats a rom, and how can I put one that's better then the original 2.1.
Thanks
Try installing VillainROM 12 to a full 2.1 Rom, you can also try Floyo to a 2.2 Rom.

I heard I had to downgrade the boot.
How can I do that?
Hello!
A ROM is the system on your phone. You must install a custom recovery to flash another ROM, I would recommend VillainROM 12, it's a good one to begin with.

Thanks, but I heard I had to downgrade the boot to install a rom.
Is there any guide to to so?
And after a guide to install a rom?
Well if your hero is rooted there's no need to downgrade it. It was the newer updates that had a patch installed in it that made it impossible to root your phone was the reason why it had to be downgraded I believe.
Since you said it's already rooted what you need to check for is if you have a recovery image set up on your phone. Go into recovery mode by either holding down the vol down button and power or the home button and power but here's instructions one how to root your phone and load a custom rom

hope this helps.
CM7 gigglebread rom. Can we patch newer versions over older versions without losing user data? Thanks
I am using version 8 with hotfix 1 and i am enjoying the rom, but i would like to know if i can patch newer versions of the CM7 gigglebread when they are available without doing a complete reset in the xrecovery mode

You can do that without any problem just choose install custom zip in xrecovery And despite all the negative respond on HF2 I recommend installing it It works like a charm on my phone
thanks alot orkeren wat is HF2 by the way?

ooh maybe there is a misunderstanding in my first post, i understand that we can install hotfix via xrecovery as a custom zip
i installed Hotfix 8.1 already. but thats a patch to version 8.
If there is a newer version of CM7 like say version 9 would i be able to install custom zip without wiping out my user data?
Thanks alot for answering the queries

yes you can, i prefer fresh installs, but yes you can install newer fw's without loss of data.
EDIT:
however, i should say there is a chance of bugs/errors during installations. nothing for sure will happen, but there is a chance.
i think i have found the answer to my own question hahah
we can use titanium backup to backup apps and system data to the SD card and then restore it back into a new rom when you reinstall titanium backup
it would need to be compiled first in order to get the right files, then it needs to be made to an update.zip also a few changes by hand
so its not that easy to be uptodate.
but if you have the sources and know what you are doing you will most certainly be able to get all the things working right after a new release
just wanting to clarify my post You can upgrade from v8 to v9 through xrecovery without any problems I've been using this rom since v3 and never did a clean install after that...
With HF2 I mean Hotfix 2
SO:
You can both flash hotfixes and newer versions (like 9.0 or 10.0) without wiping user data You can even choose to jump over versions - flashing from v8 to v10 would be possible
wow icic. thanks alot to the good folks over at XDA's , you guys have been real helpful. I really enjoy my gigglebreaded x10 mini pro now
Hi,
I recently installed OVERDRIVE SERIES gingerbread 2.3.4 a2sd/40 languages/stable and now I want to install its MIUI - Formels MIUI gingerbread 2.3.4. as far as I am aware I should install the MIUI via xrecovery. However the xrecovery 0.3 is not to be installed on ROM 2.2 and 2.3....
How am I supposed to access the recovery menu to install the MIUI??
Any help is much appreciated.
xRecovery is included in custom roms.
But it is advised that you do a clean reinstall of 2.1 then move onto a new custom rom.

It's retarded as long as you have the right baseband or flash a baseband patch and make sure to wipe everything that step would accomplish nothing...

I have one rom manager PRO and i tried to check if avaiable new update but still not yet but im afraid that rom manager wont work or maybe coming too much delay?
Someone could please explain me about it?

in short, CM7 is based off Gingerbread and CM9 is based off ICS. If you want ICS, flash CM9 or one of the other roms in the dev section(s).
CM9

Other ROM's you may want to try:

You need to read around a LOT more.
First off, don't use ROM Manager on a Galaxy S2.
Second, no, there is no version of 4.0.3 for CM7 because cm7 itself is 2.3.7. What you want is CyanogenMod 9.
EDIT: Ninja'd! That took me much longer to type than I thought it did. :S
Has anyone mentioned to you that you need cm9 for ics?
Oh there it is.

You can use TB to backup apps and data. Just remember when you're restoring apps on your new rom, DO NOT restore system apps/data. It will royally screw things up. The best course of action would be to manually select which games/apps to restore with data. The rest of your apps you should just redownload from the Play Store.
As for ROM Manager, it can just mess things up on this phone. You don't need it though...you can do everything you need to do with CWM Recovery or Mobile Odin.

EDIT: But make a nandroid backup first!
CMW = ClockWorkMod
Also, should he not follow the basic instructions for first time flashers so he can undo whatever the hell the Chinese dude did?

@matt,
I thought ROM Manager still works perfectly for any CyanogenMod ROM, CM7 or CM9. It's just highly recommended NOT to use with any other ROM that not-CM.
@OP, I strongly suggest you spend much more time reading and make sure you understand the whole process of making the CM9 on your device. In fact, it will save you more time than just keep flashing it, bricking it and hunting for help.

If you already have a kernel with ClockworkMod, you don't need to worry about flashing one before flashing CM9.
Here is what you need to do:
1. Nandroid backup.
2. Download latest CM9 and GAPPS
3. Do a full wipe in ClockworkMod
4. Flash CM9 in ClockworkMod
5. Flash GAPPS in ClockworkMod

ITS A GUI INTERFACE FOR CWM
you can boot into CWM directly and do anything that ROM manager can do except download the rom....
we have stickies outlining all this stuff already, not sure why thats a totally new concept for folks these days

Me too with rooted tab, however, it does check for and download updates and asks for a samsung acc. However, installing the update got a message error. Btw, I'm looking for a fast stable ROM with HC 3.2 and a pre-installed launcher. Anyone got any ideas?
Hi.
to all: go to this address and follow the instructions:

then install samsung apps or a launcher or everything else...
I've flashed it myself several times till now(I've bought my tab nearly a week ago and have almost boomed it)
if you have the same prob again tell me to upload some videos...

If ur loking for stable HC3.2 try Overcome 10.1 Series. Most stable for 3G GTab but removes too much from TouchWiz.
I would personally recommend GALAXY TASK 14 or Clean ROM 2.0 but only if u have WiFi only GTab.

If you mean updates for android os,Ice cream sandwich and jelly bean have already been released(ICS without camera and JB without anything right now...).
I recommend only ICS CM nightly if you ever want to flash...
I rely on the tab to take pics a lot, so I cant afford to lose the camera. Clean ROM's developer seems to have moved on to another device, so I think I'm gonna go with Task. Thanks!

In order to install cwm touch, you have to put it in a .tar file and use odin. Or make a cwm flashable zip.
you can find non-touch recovery in here:
