[Q] Setcpu? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone could help me by explaining to me how to use setcpu? I'm trying to use it to save battery. The only problem is that I have no idea on how to use it, I mean what profiles do I use, how do I even configure profiles.
I've searched but honestly I don't understand a thing but I know I need to learn, any help would be highly appreciated.
Thanks

During night, you can set it low... max 600 or whatever ...
Setcpu, juice defender...
Use tasker instead! Im not be able using tasker because instable rom... actually idk yet, what's the issue...
It might need a little more time learning to use it... but, i recomended this apps... not only cpu state, you can even using it to fully automatic... fully control... not only time... you can set it low, everytime it sleeps... network control also.... give it a shot....

Wow, sorry, but have you even tried it yet? It's pretty intuitive already.

Is ur phone rooted? Without root superuser, u can't used it.... look at tab profile... u can create profile from that tab.... u have to check it... if u want to use the profile... if u didn't check it... it just run how it supposed to do on the first tab...
That's mean... if u just have one profile... example.. from 9am till 13pm... it's mean this profile active during this hour... and then out of that... he back to the normally used.... u can create as many profile as u like... check cpu gov... then u will know what is it mean... there're hotplug, performance, userspace, demand etc... u have check ur phone first... not every phone have the same...
Good luck...

[Q] setcpu on the X10. anyone is using it?

I've tried setcpu a couple of times, but for some reason after a phone reboot or something else, setcpu seems to loose it's settings.
Anyone is using it?
Any issues?
Thanks
I'm using it, but it does hold the settings.

I had the same issue but instead of using auto detect settings i used generic qsd and its been spot on since.
Might wanna try that
Your guys should check the "set on boot" box in the main menu.
After that, set profile and remember to ignore the setcpu if you are using task killer apps

It was still losing its settings which was very strange, however having it set to a pre configured profile (QSD) its been fine.

your phone needs to be ROOTed, there are some post where you can find how to Root your phone
Phone needs to be rooted and some superuser versions have an issue remembering settings at startup. Versions 2.1 and 2.3+ don't have the issue. Pretty sure it was the 2.2 versions that have the issue. (It happened on both nexus and x10).
Edit, just wanted to clarify that Im talking about the version of the superuser application.
Hi all...New here and...French
So, I've got a question, a really simple one tho but anyway. I do have Freex10 bata 4 and GG 1.4 on my Xperia and setcpu is already install. The version is 1.6, and I want to know If I can update to the lastest on the market safetly ?
Thanks for any responses !
Great information everywhere here too in fact !
You can update safely Furilax
What's a good (safe) clock-value to set it to for maximum performance? I don't care about battery drain, as it is charging for more than 18 hours a day.
Thanks guys!

[Q] What's up with the RAM?

For some reason, the RAM on my galaxy ace is always running at about 80 something even when I have auto memory manager set to aggressive, clean up ram after every minute and set the presets really high. After it clears up, some apps get automatically preloaded again.
Is there a way to control how much ram can stay consistent on the phone? It lags when the ram is running pretty low so I was wondering if there's a way to keep up a whole bunch of free ram.
I'm running my Ace on 2.3.5 stock rom rooted.
Try allinone script frm development section. It free's a hell lot of memory. It needs cf-root or cm7 to work.

Dont jus say thanks, use d 'Thanks' button. [XDA-RULE]
If you don't like scripts try the Ram manager app by Juwes11, it helps maintain some free ram.
some apps cannot be killed/are persistent so don't bother killing those.
Thanks guys! Will try them out
autostarts is a great app to prevent useless apps from restarting/starting in a certain situation. (e.g. when you start your phone/wifi etc.)
Used it for a few months and im very happy with it.
Wont it close the app when I start it up manually though? Have you had any errors with it?

when i bought SGA then i noticed first thing ram usage was high as there were most of bloatwares from samsung which were starting on there on...
rooted it on that day and removed them
now on CF-ROOT using allram script
Ooo what does that script do and how do I get it?

for that you need to install CF-ROOT kernel which is pretty good..
look here
but if you are on locked device do confirm that it is safe or not to install kernel as it may make thing much worse..
if it is unlocked ace then feel free to install it right way..
if you are new to flashing this thing then there is complete guide for cf-root Here
and allinoneram script here
Oh man thanks a lot dude! Ill thank you when I go on my pc. I don't know how to thank through the app. XD

is your phone unlocked??
then surely give it a try
I'm not sure. How can I tell if its unlocked? The boot animation from my phone company is gone was soon as I upgraded to 2.3. Do I need to switch it to a different company's simcard or something?
Sent from my GT-S5830 using XDA App
yeah if you can use phone with other service provider sim card then its unlocked one
and if you get some error or no network then mostly its locked
Well if its not unlocked, how can I unlock it?

well about this i will not suggest anything as i have seen many people just ****ing up there phones with no success but some says it works....
some method works but i will not encourage you for doing things and screwing phone
Oh okay. I can't wait to give the whole ram thing a try though. About how much free do you have? Mines circles at around 70-90 and sometimes lower.

nonono xD For instance. When i start my wifi some apps automatically starts, and i dont want that (bec it would be a pain if my 5+ apps started everytime i did that).
And also, some apps starts when the phone turns on, even though they dont need to be started. If you manually start an app autostarts wont harm it.
Oh okay. Sounds really good! Can't wait to see it in action

Problem with Unlocking.

Hey, so I have a problem I just can't figure out:
When I unlock my screen, if the slider lags, when it unlocks the phone becomes slugish and slow, and I have to lock and slide it slow so it doesn't lags so the phone stays normal. Sometimes it doesn't lags the slider, and even if it lags, after like 30 seconds the phone become normal again.
But I don't want "lock again" the phone, or slide it slow so it doesnt lag, I want to have this problem solver. Any of you guys know how?
Please, if you don't know what is causing this and you are just a troll, don't bother in this thread, thanks
Using Rooted phone, CF Root b84 FIX and I think it's just that.
That's because the frequency is too low when waking up from deep sleep. It is a normal condition. Just set your minimum frequency higher and the lag should have gone.

Are you 100% sure on that?
So and how can I change that without having a program always running on the background like setCPU?
Download any of the app which can adjust the clocked frequency

Use No frills CPU control or SetCpu if u r on stock.
If u r on CM7.x then there are overclockin options in CyanogenMOD settings. Search them a bit, I dont remember the correct name and am using stock based Rom these dayz

As you saw some posts earlier, I don't want to have a program running just to keep my CPU settings. I was looking from some program that doesn't needs to be running to keep the deep sleep setting.

So there is no program that can set Deep Sleep frequency without beeing runed on the background?...
Guess not...o.o
Using SetCPU is your best bet..and no there are no apps which dont require running in the background AFAIK..

Profile Management

Hi,
I am coming from a BlackBerry. That has some great profile management and I'm not expecting something exactly like that.
There's only one main feature that I would like for the profiles, and that is to make it so it only vibrates when I receive a call. And I would switch to that particular profile during the night and then in the morning switch to my normal profile again.
Is there a way to do this? I heard you can in Tasker but I played around with it and it's too complicated for me.
Please help. Thanks
I can recommend Audio Manager Pro for audio-profiles and other useful features (such as the ability to restore sound after X minutes/hours ,... )
Do u mean sth like handy profiles?

Thanks for the replies. So far Handy Profiles seems like it does what I want but won't really know until I've used it a few days.
Will get back on this thread.
Thanks
You can try Super Profile, it can switch to profile based on time, WiFi: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sigma_rt.superprofile
Handy Profile seems to be doing a great job a few days down the line. Really impressed.

Abnormal battery drain...

I know there's a lot of battery threads out there, I've been reading most of them but I got no help from them.
I recently updated my phone from ICS to JB, and now I'm running NeatROM and Siyah Kernel. And since the update I've noticed an abnormal battery drain. Just now, in 20 minutes, it has lost 3%.
Now, I'm not new to smartphones, so before you say, yes, I have done all the possible things to prevent the drain: Greenify, Wifi OFF, GPS OFF, Sync OFF, all OFF, battery saver mode, minimum brightness...
Actually now I'm using a generic 4300mAh battery from a friend and I only get a little more than a day. I'm using the phone but not in a hard way. Minimun time on wifi, some messages, one or two calls, and some internet surfing, not much.
Is it normal all this? Am I going mad? If you guys need any info/screenshots to maybe identify something please tell.
Thanks.
Usual fixes are go back to fully stock and see if it is still the same, if yes then replace the battery with a quality make, if still the same then probably a hardware fault.
Well, the change, as I said, was just after the change from ICS to JB, so I don't think it is any of those...

well then, try some battery monitor and check what's using the battery. use some task manager like ES Task Manager(for eg.) and stop all the background apps and manage start up apps. :good:

I've experienced almost the same issue, but I've installed some custom roms.
I am a fan of Wannam.
Try to install one of his roms (the latest) and check if that helps.

i found Google maps to be the biggest drainer... and if like me its installed to /system then greenify doesn't hibernate it... and those Damn network location updates nuke the battery in no time... convert to user app using titanium backup... Or remove from /system and reinstall from market... my battery lasts nearly two days after moving all Google bloat... greenify puts it all to sleep and phone doesn't wake up for anything except calls and texts... brill

I will do that with maps. With which any other Google bloatware should I do the same?
Try using wake lock detector it really gives a nice info on what process is taking your battery .
You could also try changing the cpu scaling logic. This seems to give the best battery life enhancement.

I think the battery is going better now. I wiped the internal sdcard and now I have 70% with 8 hours of phone. Is that normal?
EDIT
I mean with stock battery. Also, I limited the CPU from 1400 to 900 long time ago.
I have also extracted the external sd because lately it was giving problems like removing and mounting itself a lot...
OK, so I got like 25 hours with normal-low use. Is that average?

Use Boeffla-Kernel. Best kernel in my opinion. Close to stock, more stable, more batteryfriendly Kernel with customization abilities compared to Stock-Kernel.
And-the music- much better with this Kernel and 'eargasm' Equalizer-setting *-*
Simply AWESOME!

I tried that but I didn't notice any battery improvement. Also, Voodo Sound is so much better, in my opinion.
Without a custom kernel you can not apply any undervolting or change the cpu scaling logic Max frequency etc.
Try a custom kernel again but this time dont just leave it with the default settings . Change them . Remember you can always install voodoo sound on top of any other sound mod.
