[Q] Why should i get this phone? - Motorola Photon 4G

can anyone give me a good reason i should get this phone?? i went from HTC Hero, Evo, to Evo shift (yes i know i downgraded when i went to evo **** from the evo but i wanted a keyboard and i know this phone doesnt have one)
Update. Im not even gonna bother with the iphone, nvr liked the style of it anyway. prefer android.

It'll be the best phone you ever owned looking at your previous lineup. The only time I wouldn't recommend this phone is if you absolutely need a phone you can mod the **** out of. While I do see slow but sure progress in the dev area, it will never be as popular as what you would be used to given your previous phones.

If you really need others to tell you why you should get this phone then there's something seriously wrong with how you view the world.
In all fairness, if you need others to tell you why you should get it, then this phone is probably not for you. I say go with the mainstream samsungs and HTC's and whatnot.

If you want a real phone first and multimedia is not your main thing, this is the one.
I am not saying that is not good but the ET4G is better for multimedia but as phone sucks.

'Cuz this Mopho is badd as **** dude, its a actual phone

A mofo MoPho is the way to go!
I have no idea why you should get this phone... especially since we don't know what you are looking for, besides a physical keyboard, which this doesn't have

ok well i guess i should have worded this a lil better so some people didn't have to be a complete jerk about it. but i've heard a lot of good and a lot of bad about this phone now. i hear there is a horrible lag in screens switching and videos. but i see this phone hasn't been fully unlocked by the looks of it which i waited 2 months on my shift because i was a unlucky kid who got nailed with a gingerbread model. so I'm not too concerned into the rooting which i enjoy to get the most out of my stuff, but i more so want it for gaming. i like games and the shift runs like crap with games even overclocked they don't run like i would like them too.
but i figure once all the bugs are fixed in the phone it will be awesome so im looking into getting one, but not entirely sure if i should wait and get a better one or just try and get this one now.
thank you to those who were not rude.

The Photon has been the best phone I have ever used. Even coming from an ogEVO where development was great. However, I have been lucky and never experienced some of the issues others have. Games run well on this, even emulated ones. Sound is top notch.
Having said that, if I was in your shoes, I would wait to upgrade. Especially with the chance of maybe seeing a Nexus Prime on Sprint or something similar. As good as the Photon is it has been out since August and will be trumped by something better either this month or next. Might even get lucky and the device will already have ICS on it.

I bought this phone some days ago, moved from iPhone 4. I'm damn happy and photon deserves the buying

[Q] general opinion of eris

Hi all, my first post here. I'm looking to upgrade from my HTC Shadow (now that's what you call a legacy devide) and move on to bigger and better stuff. What's everyone's general opinion of the ERIS? Big can't miss, or is it a phone that I'll regret buying in a few months?
I've been watching on craigslist and have noticed some awesome deals for this phone (~75-100$) Is that reasonable, too high, or too good to be true?
I'm also thinking of joining page plus and getting away from the whole contract thing so if anyone's had big issues with the eris and that whole concept let me know.
Thanks for any help. I've been going through some of the posts here. good stuff overall.
The eris is awesome. Its even better rooted. It may not have all the options newer phones have now but for a smart phone its a great choice. The price you found is good too.
Sent from my GSBv1.7-ERIS using Tapatalk
thanks labnjab. I'm definitely interested in rooting the phone. Would this screw with the page plus thing? I wouldn't think so since basically page plus sounds like it's the verizon network, but I've never rooted anything.
Totally in love with mine. Stock, it kinda sucked, but rooted and it's a totally different phone. Freedom to make it what you want.
I was never into phones before the Eris. Had a Blackjack for a while; totally unimpressed, even back in its day.
Eris definitely ain't a power performer, but definitely bang for buck.
Not too many retired phone with this level of support.
If you can pick one up cheap with no contract, I'd recommend it.
The downsides would be, space as apps continue to grow, breaking the 10mb barrier and beyond. CPU, and lack of dedicated hardware graphics may be a problem soon as more apps are written to target the hardware of higher end phones.
I'll have mine another year unless I come across a cheap no contract deal. But the Eris with Android 2.3.2 does everything I need it to. No compelling reason to upgrade for me yet.
I love the small thin form factor. Couldn't imagine carrying around some of the bricks their pushing now.

Personally, I think now is a bad time to be thinking of getting an Eris. The #1 reason I got this phone was that it was free for me through a website other than Verizon. Actually had a $50 rebate, too, although I had to wait five months before being allowed to redeem it, so I actually got paid to get this phone.
Of course, the developers and other users here have made this phone much more interesting than I would've imagined.
The price mentioned does seem reasonable for being without a contract, but being without a contract isn't that important to me. I can go through the same website as I did when I got the Eris and get a brand new Incredible for free, now.
I doubt if I will be upgrading to anything, however, until January 2012, hopefully right after the apocalypse so that I can get any Android for free.
if you have made it this long with your Shadow without being tempted by the newest, shiniest phones, you would probably be happy with an Eris. it is a great phone which has lasted way longer than the one year i planned to keep it for, thanks to all the great dev work here on XDA.
not sure how much longer we will be able to keep up with the increasing demands beyond Gingerbread, but if you are content with features currently offered by Froyo and GB, Eris would be a solid option. i would gladly buy this phone again.
The Droid Eris will not disappoint. I got mine for $100 on ebay around Christmas time, and have loved it ever since. Rooting rocks this phone's world. It shouldn't affect anything with your page plus contract.
But I've got my eye on the Incredible and Thunderbolt. Both of those phones are great contenders. Judging from your past phone history and waiting out on smartphones for this long though, the Eris will be a great start for you, I think!
The battery life for this phone is pretty good, I've gotten it to last the whole day on one charge. The call quality is decent, pictures/videos are okay. The features of this phone are really what blow it away.
A lot of these Android phones do a lot of the same things, it really comes down to, how fast do you want your phone to be, how many things do you want it to be able to do at once, things like that.
Thanks everyone. Got the phone today. It's in awesome shape. Turns right on FAST, nothing like the shadow which took about 2.5 days to boot. I like it. So, now that I've committed, what should be the first things I do to make this phone even better???
Never done any of this stuff so I need pointed in the right direction by those wiser than myself.
I don't know about wiser, but how about someone who just did this last week.
First go here and read the first 4 posts.
Google all terms you don't understand. Then Thank your lucky stars you don't need to do all that gain root.
Go to Market and download one-click root. Follow instructions. Once you have root donate as instructed. Browse forums here to decide which ROM to load.
I like my Eris, but it is a stop gap and always was. I should have swapped it for the Incredible when that first came out. But my other phone broke and was in a bind - 2 weeks before the Incredible was being rumored to launch.
The Eris does more then I EVER expected it to and it is a good phone. The memory is what kills me, and the speed. It feels snappy, but it is too slow some of the more intensive apps I want to run.
The size of the Eris and lack of a physical keyboard is what sold me on it, and what I still like. I will hate to have to go to a brick phone again, I got rid of those in the 90's.
Root and Custom ROMs restored life to my Eris, which was about to become one with a brick wall at 200 miles an hour on the stock firmware. The stock 2.1 Sense ROM is pretty slow and overall not the greatest Android experience, but if you root and flash something like GSB, you won't regret it.
Like everyone else said, Android is Android, it's all a matter of how fast you really wanna go. Any feature that newer phones have that the Eris doesn't is pretty much totally based on hardware limitations (i.e: HD video capture, 4G, etc.). The nice thing about it though is it's small, unless you're into the whole 32" TV in your pocket deal. Slides right in and out of your side pockets and doesn't cause carpal tunnel when typing.
Once you root, as listed in a previous post, find a rom you like and install. There are several listed in the developer section of the Eris forum (http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=554). Instructions on how to flash are included in most threads. Ask if you need further assistance!
i love my cute lil eris.
i wan running stock 2.1 for the longest time then finally took the plunge into 2.2 and now 2.3
HTC sense is why i bought this lil bugger, even though it can barely run it sometimes. in my opinion the stock rom on this isnt that bad for someones first android phone.
iv been very happy with my eris, but its almost upgrade time, sad to see this lil guy go. i usually sell my old phones to help pay for the new one but this time i might keep him around just for the memories <3
RA recovery is better then clockwork(my opinion) remember to flash that

Anyone having buyers remorse?

I ask this question sincerely. Its been hard keeping up with all the topics in this section of the forum, and there are many more complaints about things than real reviews from the people who own the phone. I'm on the fence. I've been looking for objective analysis of the phone from the people who have now had it, going on two days.
So, I ask, does anyone wish they didn't pre order? Anyone definitely bringing it back for something you would define as a deal breaker? I know I have nothing to lose to try it for 30 days, but I'm weighing it out to see if I should wait a while for things to get tidied up before I buy one.
Thanks
I know the release was a bit buggy, but HTC seems pretty good about fixing these issues considering the phone is not even out yet. You can count on the development for this phone skyrocketing once the bootloader becomes unlocked.
I only regret ordering via Early Purchase because my power button's broken, and I'm sitting, staring at my non-functional 3VO, hoping I can get it switched out tomorrow (crosses fingers that stars align).
For the brief time I did use it (finding ways to bypass the power button problem), no complaints.

Yeah, I know its a matter of when, not if on the bootloader so that wouldn't be a deal breaker for me. Minor bugs are a part of early adoption also. Is the phone really that much better than the OG Evo? I get the specs and all, but I'm running Sense 3.0 on my OG and it runs great. I'm sort of interested in taking 3D pics of my kids and the reports of the camera being better in general is a plus for me.
Thanks for the reply.

Despite any of the complaints or bugs that people have reported, I still say that this is an awesome phone, and don't regret buying it at all. Any of the bugs that are being reported now will likely be handled via ota's in a timely manner. Once the bootloader gets cracked and we can get some some custom roms and kernels on this thing it's all over. This is the smoothest phone I've used, even with stock sense.
EDIT: and after reading your second post, let me say that this thing runs 100% smoother and quicker than any of the 3.0 or 2.1/3.0 'hybrid' roms for the OG Evo. I've ran them all on my Evo, and this thing squashes the 3.0 Evo roms, in terms of speed and smoothness. The hardware is simply far superior on this, so it runs much smoother.

Thanks, this is the stuff I'm looking for. I tend to have periods of buyers remorse on certain purchases and while the bugs seem pretty minor, HTC still has a pretty good record of hot fixing things in short time.
I love the phone. I definitely have some complaints.. some are legit, others are preference based. You're gonna have to physically play around with one before you can really decide if it's for you or not. it is fast and smooth, I do still notice a hang here and there that I'm sure is the fault of Sense 3.0
Hoping to get this thing rooted but, it will be incredibly tough if HTC doesn't keep their promise. Still. rooted or not, I will keep this phone for at least a year..

I have syn running on my evo but you can't beat how smooth this is. I had virus rom and carousel was never this smooth. Not putting them down they did awesome porting the 3d/sensation roms. Also this is the best screen I've had on any phone. everything super fast load. No remorse here but I'm also still running rooted 4g.

Thanks Cripple, I had a VW that I thought had the most awesome low end torque and performance, until I drove my friends Porsche. I see your point about the ports running well enough on the 4G, but being supercharged on the 3D.

Oh, I'm not complaining about the bugs. I was an Early Adopter of the 4G, I know about bugs and it comes with the territory. I was honestly just looking to see if anyone had any real buyers remorse, or deal breaking things with the phone.

Umm, yeah, I try nearly every rom that comes around and....umm...not a single 3.0 or 2.1/3.0 hybrid rom I came across would i consider even slightly close to smooth....I typically tune my phone extremely tight....and at first I blamed a lack of an OC kernel...but....even after letting it settle in for a while those roms on a 4G sucked. It was fun being able to play with my next phone--sorta--before I got it...but...not even close. I just couldn't get it to what I considered usable...while I understand that all phones aren't created equally...somehow...I've never had any bad luck at all with my Evo 4G...at all....if all phones aren't created equally (...aside from the physics and practicalities of CPU fabrication the verdict is still out on that one...) my OG Evo would be one of the best, cream of the crop....and those Sense 3.0alike roms were fun, but, the performance blew hard chunks.....I think perhaps "not all people's standards and expectations are created equal" is a more apt assessment of the situation....YMMV

I agree completely. I think people's expectations and interpretations of what 'smooth' and 'usable' is vary greatly. I never had a problem with my OG Evo (launch day evo, still mint condition), but none of the roms are as smooth as this thing is, and this is a stock htc rom! I can't imagine the possibilities that lay ahead with this phone.
Everything on this phone runs as smooth as butter. Multitasking is a dream and everytime i start an app, I cum a little its so fast. Feeling like you can reach into your screen when looking at 3d content annoys the hell out of me cuz i can't... Lol besides the few software quirks that show up here and there this phone is perfection. I am astounded by the difference between this and the 4G.. wow. I have not once felt any remorse.. buy this phone lol

Still the honeymoon. Check back in about 3 weeks when it gets ugly.
I am completely loving the entire experience so far! So smooth... Fast... I love that I can just pinch the browser window and it shows the pages/allows me to close and add more so quickly.
Battery life has been great for me! Sense 3.0 is crazy cool. U even think the vibration feedback feels so much better than the 4G. The 3D gives me a headache, but it is fun to show off. The camera for 2d focuses better... Can actually take a focused picture of my jack russell. The dog was always a blur on the 4G because he never stays still.
No remorse here at all. It's a solid device!

Seems, all the likes for this phone are eye candy, and not actual practicality. Aside from the 3D what can this phone do that the Evo can't with a custom rom? I keep asking myself, what need do I have with a phone that takes 3D movies or pictures, I mean, a cell phone should never be used as your main camera, the quality is never as good as a DSLR, or even a decent point and shoot. So at best the Evo 3D has more gimmicks then the Evo 4G. So I guess the question is, are the gimmicks worth the extra money?
As far as smoothness, maybe, maybe not. The latest Kingdom and Synergy roms run really smooth on the 4G. It may take a second for an app to come up, but I mean, come on, are our lives that fast paced that one second really matters? Man I miss the 80's.
Forget the 3D, it is just sweet novelty to show off and give your enemies headaches... Think dual core, sense 3.0 goodness. It's a great next gen Evo.

Might Jump the Gun

My upgrade is due next week, and I've been researching this phone like crazy in the past 2 months, constantly checking back here and reading posts. i know all the issues, screen bleeding, camera flash issue, multitouch points etc, and they do not really bother me. i was playing with the galaxy nexus and ICS runs INSANELY smooth and snappy, i was wondering when CM9 is available, will it be that responsive and smooth? Im on Tmobile USA right now and i could get the amaze for 230.00 with a contract, or i can fork out 600.00 for a galaxy nexus. i Do beleive the amaze is an all around better phone, camera, build quality, and so on. But im worried how well ICS run on it. i like options, for example, galaxy nexus will have ICS, thats it, the amaze i could flash between sense roms and ICS (when its available)
BTW, im coming from a tmobile G2. Im a huge fan of xboarder's work, Super excited to see him on the amaze forums.
any suggestions and comments would be greatly appreciated, i need your thoughts and opinions, i apologize for the long rant also.

sounds promising to me man, will be getting the amaze 4G on friday then, much props to you for your hard work. the G2 Forums miss you =P lol
i just dont wanna regret signing a contract for 2 years, then something else comes out in a few months
Well you don't have to worry too much about the Amaze being outdated in a couple years... I'd say in terms of hardware, the device is high-end enough to hold its own against the oncoming handsets
Traded my Samsung GN for the Amaze and am much happier with it.
HTC Amaze is the next generation phone. How many phones on the market right now come with NFC (Near Field Communication)? Hahahaha
Amaze all the way ....

If you think like this, you will never upgrade. At the rate that technology advances, a technically superior device is always going to be "just around the corner." Just continue to do your research, make a choice, and enjoy it.
im not worried about it getting outdated, I'm worried it'll get outdated too quickly. 2-3 months is quick for me but anything frm 4-6 months is reasonable. And thanks to u guys I will be gettingthe amaze next week. Im putting my money on the devs on this one, I know you guys won't disappoint
And the "lack of" development doesn't bother me either. Quality over quantity, rather have 6 superior roms over 20 mediocre ones

i wont disapoint

Anyone else feel as though they "jumped the gun" a little early?

Been using this phone for nearly 2 weeks now, and for the most part, I've been happy. However, with the Galaxy S III coming in a few weeks, I feel as though I should have at least waited before figuring out which phone I was going to use for the next 2 years. Because of that I decided to return the phone back to Wirefly and go back to using an old Blackberry until I decide to go back to the LTEVO or the GS III. I sold my E4GT so I can't go back to that.
LTEVO Pros
-Beautiful screen
-Excellent build quality and in-hand feel
-Very good (relatively) 3g performance in my area
LTEVO Cons
-Phone performance not that great, especially after opening and switching between a few apps
-Camera is good, but not nearly as good as I had hoped it would be
The two cons are biggies for me. I know for a fact that the sluggishness is related to software, but if you've ever used a Galaxy S II device, you'll realize how spoiled you were by how fast and responsive that phone was. It's an HTC thing; their software sucks compared to Samsung. Even using the T-Mo GSII based on the Qualcomm SoC felt a lot faster than any HTC phone based on the same SoC. I'm not saying TouchWiz is more functional than Sense, I'm just saying it's FASTER, which is 100% true.
The camera is good but the low light performance isn't as great as I had hoped it would be. Comparing to shots from my GSII, LTEVO shots were much more grainy. I also don't like the HTC camera software, and it might even be Sense related. I feel the software isn't fast nor intuitive. I hate the focusing mechanisms. Call me crazy, but I like crosshairs and boxes that help you determine what exactly is being focused. Also, the software isn't responsive. Taking out my phone and snapping a picture isn't very fast. It's acceptable, but like I said, with another great phone around the corner, there's really no reason why I shouldn't test them both and then decide which of the two I'd rather keep.
I'm not trying to bash the LTEVO. I'm sure we'll all agree, the device is far from perfect (all the devices are, in fact). However, I think most of us have the opportunity of trying BOTH phones before finally deciding which to go with. In a sense (no pun intended), the LTEVO delay was a blessing in disguise. Had it been launched on time, we'd be stuck with it. Now we have the chance of putting it up against a very formidable opponent and choosing which phone fits our style better. The GSIII could very well suck, but thankfully we have the luxury of being able to choose the phone we want because of how close together their launches were. I could be returning my phone, just to re-purchase it in a month, but I feel I have nothing to lose and everything to gain. If the GSIII is a rockstar then I'm going to be kicking myself for not getting it instead.
Anyway, does anyone else feel as though they jumped the gun, and will be trying out the GSIII?
I feel this way only a little bit.. luckily best buy has a 30 day exchange. I am going to try both of them. This is a pretty solid phone, but I can not stand the browser always flashing white while scrolling, and the reception issues. I know both probably can get updated to work fine, but it is bothering me. I am going to test out the GSIII and see how the radios perform. If they are not up to speed I will probably stick with this phone and hope the updates come soon enough.

We are still on a stock ROM since it was released a couple weeks ago. I would imagine some of the issues you describe will be ironed out in upcoming ROM updates from Sprint and HTC. You also forgot other pros about this device like very good battery life, Beats by Dr. Dre, outstanding camera. No I didn't jump the gun. The GS3 will not be perfect at release also. Every device has bugs that need fixing.
If you think the camera isn't that great, take a look at one of the pictures I posted a while back here in the General forum.

Not at all. I don't use Samsung on principle, they are in bed ith Apple and playing both sides of the market. I have used the SGS phones and they're not better or worse, just different - depending on what you value in a phone. I also don't experience any of the cons you are complaining about, but everybody has different expectations and experiences.
Why do so many people start threads asking for others to take their side in decisions like this? If you don't like the phone, just return it and keep looking until you find something you do like. You don't need 1000 signatures on your petition to return the phone. It's your preference, do what works for you.
Just know that you'll be able to find something wrong with the SGS3 as well if you're honest with yourself.

No, I dont feel like I jumped the gun. Im happy with my decision, the aesthetics alone was enough of an edge for me personally.
My gf sold her gs2 and bought this phone. Had it for 3 hours then made me.give her my gs2 and take this evo. Its not bad i have a defender case on and do like the feel but i preordered a gs3 and cannot.wait lol. Ill.keep this phone while i try the gs3 but this evo dose get very "laggy" when multi tasking. My gs2 didnt

That being said, I purchased the EVO LTE the day it came out and I have absolutely zero complaints about it. This phone will easily last me 2 years.

He is only here to get other people's opinions. I know not every phone is perfect but you are on a forum that deals with alot of phones. People would like to have other peoples opinions of their choice of electronics, kind of like looking at all the reviews of a product.

Bro, settle down. It has been said before, our phone is only 12 days old. There will be people overanalyzing minor discrepancies and having that "buyer's remorse". Give it another couple weeks and the "WHY DID I BUY THIS?!" posts will go away.
vulcZ said:

Yea these people are getting ridiculous.. You don't like the camera app? What's not to like? I your reaching for that.. Go into the gs3 forums and you will quickly find out that people are having problems with them as well.. Not a phone problem as much as being an early adopter problem.. Can't believe u don't like the camera.. Some people will never be happy.. I'll end with this.. A software update will fix all these issues ppl have..multi tasking being my main one.. But a software update won't give uba metal unibody, kickstand and just an overall better built phone.. Same s4 chip in ppl.. I swear ppl are adhd nowadays
Nah. I don't have any performance issues and the only camera issue I have is that the hardware shutter button is half useless (only holds the focus, does not refocus when half pressed)
Also Deck is working on CM9 for the evo lte so that is a huge pro right there.
The battery life is amazing.

I didn't feel like this until i found out about the 2gb ram in the gs3. I like everything about the phone though, just wish it had 2gb. I wanted the best phone spec wise fir longer than a couple weeks.
I understand the agitation since every time I refresh xda I see another one of these posts.. I guess it's just hard for me to imagine wanting a Samsung.. I'm hard core HTC.. And with or previous devices I was willing to concede that maybe Samsung were better in some areas.. IE the gs2 vs my evo 3d.. The gs2 may have been better I guess to some or most of but I wouldn't have it.. I loved my 3d despite all the naysayers.. Anywho I really believe that with the evo LTE that HTC is back on top.. Esp hardware wise.. I dunno how someone could even argue that the gs3 is better in that regard.. Esp. With the same soc...so the software bugs will get worked out.. Just hold out... It's ok to enjoy your phone and focus on what it does well instead
I don't think I jumped the gun, just wish I had a magical gun to make all the Samsung trolls disappear

I think I might be ready for a new phone.. What do you think?

Well I've had the rezound since it came out and I always loved it. But it's a little outdated now and development has slowed quite a bit. So I'm thinking about getting a new phone.
I'm 99% sure I'm not gonna get the iPhone, even though I love my iPad and MacBook I think android is better than the iPhone.
The galaxy nexus is one of my top choices but I think they might be coming out with a new one soon and I would rather wait.
The s3 is my top choice as of now.
I don't see any reason to get the d inc lte.
I'm looking for battery life that is better than my rezound. I would like a decent screen but it's not that important. Most importantly I want the phone to be smooth and fast. And I would love something that is getting jb.
So what do you think? Keep the rezound or get another phone? Any suggestions other than what I listed?
Thanks!

Honestly i would wait for the next nexus device and cross my fingers its made buy htc lol. I love sense and all but i really like the fact that a nexus is made exactly for that version of android at the time and is still in mind when they make a new os. Like the nexus s came with gingerbread, then ics, and will soon get jellybean i here. I mean 3 os updates and it runs even better than when it came out with gb, unlike many other phones (not the rezound) when they get a os update they start to usually slow down because its not made with that os in mine. But thats just me lol
Thanks! I think I'm gonna stick with my rezound for now. If the one x comes to Verizon I'll get that
Unfortunately they've already said Sammy's making the next Nexus.
Actually I guess that's not official... Just based on a leaked Samsung spec sheet.

I've fought tooth and nail defending this phone for its outstanding hardware, but I'm starting to think it may be time to throw in the towel. The radios have amazing signal compared to Samsung. Problem? My strong as hell 4G signal stalls constantly. It never drops, just stalls all communications. I was so happy to see data stalls listed as fixed on this new ruu leak, but its completely untrue. No change. Not to mention the kernel drama. Still runs hot as hell. My respect for HTC has gone straight out the window this time. Not even aosp can redeem it for me now. So in short, I'm ready for a New phone as well and tell you go for it.

I bought a new iPhone for my sister a few months ago. I was setting it up for her and had it side by side next to my Rezound for about 4 or 5 days. I was just shocked at what a piece of crap it was. The screen was so small, it was like holding a kids toy or something. Honestly, it was painful to look at with its tiny, tiny screen.
3G just sucks. Granted, it was on Sprint's network (which I hear is not as good as Verizon) but 3G just sucked. Slow, spotty... Downloading apps seemed to take forever compared to my blazing fast 4G.
No widgets? WTF? I had to click on 3 or 4 things just to get to a Bluetooth control panel - my Rezound has a link right to the Bluetooth control panel on the homescreen. I love the big clock/weather widget on my homescreen, and having 4 different apps I can immediately go into during an unlock is terrific.
I have a few friends who have iPhones. One day, one of those guys who does sales (and is kind of an ass) started projecting that "I'm awesome because I own and iPhone and I love it and I love me and Im soo dam kewl" attitude - and I just tore him to shreds with the above three points.
He countered with "Well, I use iTunes and all my stuff is there and it magically appears in my iCloud, bla bla bla". I admitted he did have a point, but I ripped into him about how much iTunes sucks/I have my own cloud/etc. But I make sure to rip on him and his tiny screen and slow bandwidth opium of the masses toy whenever he brings it up.
I honestly feel sorry for people who are blinded by how cool they think they are because they bought an iPhone. Seriously, it reminds me of these people who are brainwashed into a religious cult and think they are going to be teleported to a paradise planet by an alien named Xennue or something.
I use Gmail/Google Calendar/Google Contacts/Google Docs... I have no desire to give that up for an iPhone.
However, I do like my iPad. Now that it can run Chrome, its actually nice. I can easily access all the above with little hassle.
Other than this ICS/Google Maps 6.10 debacle, I've had no issues with my Rezound whatsoever. With its extended battery, its just a great piece of hardware. I can't see myself changing that for any reason for a long, long time...
Now... Tablets... that's another story...

Wow so much animosity towards the iPhone. Its really not a bad device. Both iOS and Android are solid platforms, and both have their pros and cons.
EDIT: Scratch all that i mustve overlooked the fact you have an iPad, so you do like the platform. As for the cultish fanboyism of ios yeah its there, but its going to exist everywhere. We have fanboy android users with the same mentality.
Well if I get a new phone it will be the s3. So what do you think, rezound or s3? I really don't know what to do here. I've been with htc since the apache. The galaxy s3 looks pretty good though. What do you think?

Well said Webmastuh . Hehehe.. iphones may be slick, but they are highly overrated. Lots of these new Android phones whoop ish*ts a$$. The Rezound is an excellent piece of hardware, when paired with the proper software and firmware. The S3 is an excellent handset. The interface and graphics acceleration are much faster than the Rez, but as you know, Samsung has always had poor radios. Idk if they have improved it on the new S3 though...

Ha! Yeah, sorry if the post came off full of iPhone/iOS vitriol. I agree - both iOS and Android are both solid OS's/Platforms and both have their pros and cons. For the record I work with both and I'll program for either. I dropped the "religious fervor" about this stuff a while ago - they are all just tools.
I actually have a couple of iPads, and like a lot of things about them. I use them a lot to do actual productive work (mostly note taking and emails on the go). I have a couple of Android tablets, and I'm interested in getting a Surface.
But I'm sticking with my attack on iPhones. G3 sucks compared to my Rezound's G4, the iPhone screen is much smaller than my Rezound, and iPhone doesn't have widgets (and that shouldn't be overlooked. They are convenient as heck.)
I found out the other day that if I ever want to upgrade my Rezound with a subsidized phone from Verizon, I MUST drop my unlimited data plan for one of those metered plans they have. I told the rep I would never do this, and that I'd fire Verizon and switch to Sprint or T-Mobile first.
But the question I had was why upgrade my phone? The answer was "for new functionality that comes out". My answer was "I'll just do new functionality on a tablet, and keep my phone as-is." I'm a pretty imaginative guy, but I can't see why I'd have a specific need to upgrade my phone anytime soon. If some new killer-must-have app comes out tomorrow that doesn't run on a Rezound - cool, I'll just get it on a tablet. I'll keep the Rezound for basic stuff and use other advanced/new stuff on a tablet. The Rezound will be relegated to a bandwidth pipe with some basic email checking functions. Oh, and actual phone calls...
Maybe if 5G comes out that the Rezound can't handle... (and it would have to be a 5 - 10 times better than 4G to make it worth it), then maybe I'd consider replacing my Rezound... Unless a tablet comes out that has it built in... Or maybe some specific must-have thing would work better with a small form factor, but then again it might also be available in 5-7inch tablet for $200...
Switching back to my old phone....
Maybe I'm crazy (don't answer that), but I'm seriously thinking about switching back to my Dinc2 from the Rezound. After using the Rezound for several months, I'm just not that crazy about it. Sure, its bigger and has 4G, but everything about it - flashing ROMs, S-On/S-Off, this radio, that radio - is so COMPLICATED. The Dinc2 is just so much easier.
And I know that development on the Dinc2 has slowed way down, but it has on the Rezound too. I guess I'm just not sure what I should do, but I don't want to switch, then switch back again because I miss 4G. Any advice would be appreciated.

I'd advise against reactivating a 3g phone on your line, especially if you have unlimited or a double data deal. Verizon is looking for any excuse to take those away, and switching between a 4g and 3g phone apparently qualifies. (Seriously, I've been on the phone with Verizon all morning trying to fix my uncle's plan).
if you have questions on flashing, just ask, there are helpful rezound people around.

I was wondering about that. Thanks for the info. That may just be enough to make me want to stay on the Rez. :good:
I don't know why people think dev on the Rezound is slowing because it's actually at more of a standstill. But, the OTA updates have dropped and now we are waiting for source to drop. Once that happens I have a feeling dev will continue on again and hopefully continue on long after the Rezound's shelf life much like the orig Incredible.
