Im not sure if i got what you mean but so far this is what i got:
1. You did a nandroid backup of your old rom (CWM 4)
2. You flashed the Cyanogenmod Stable and everything went well, the Cyanogen worked fine.
3. You did a Cyanogenmod Stable nandroid backup (cwm 5)
4. You restored the old rom (working) from the nandroid backup
5. You wanted to restore Cyanogenmod nandroid backup but you cant'.
So far i discovered CWM 5 can restore old backups (from cwm 4) but when you are in cwm 4, you cant find anymore backups done with cwm 5.
That's the problem is it?
It's just because, you cant resetore a cwm 5 backup, when you go back to cwm 4

Hi I just installed Entropys newest Daily Driver kernel, and in CWM there is a Nandroid backup where is says advanced. Is it better to make the advanced recovery or just the regular? And what is the difference? Thanks.

Are you trying make a back up or restore from one?
Make the advanced recovery or just the regular say what ?!?
..the only thing you want to do in advanced is wipe dalvik cache. Perform nandroid backups I'm the main menu of recovery where it says backup/restore.

from all the guides here that i read so far mentions nothing about advanced nandroid back up. the only time that i read something about going in to an advanced setting in cwm was to wipe davlik cache so i would imagine regular would be fine.
I was created backup from CWR. System installed was CM7.2 vo-1 Miracle v2 edition. After that I install new CM9 beta 8.
Now when I try to go back, and restore previous system from recovery, after reboot I am still in CM9.
Did I need to wipe all before restore backup?

No. The backup should do everything itself. Maybe it got corrupted in the process.
It was fast
I doesn't receive any error message. I'll try again.
Tnx

Second shoot - nothing happened again.
Then I wiped data, cache, dalvik, formatted system, restore backup, reboot and finally my previous ROM becomes functional.

I think you must wipe all data

You have to use cwm to restore. As posted above you might need to root.

Probably a corrupted sdcard, save important files to the pc and format the card from the phone. Place the files back, see if you are rooted and if not reroot with CF-Root and try again. Do not superwipe this time.Just do data/factory reset, wipe cache and dalvik cache and format system and data in mounts and storage.
Hello, sorry for reviving this old thread, but it seems that this would be a logical place to ask if it's recommended to do a super wipe before every non stock ROM flash.

No. Just wipe data, cache, dalvick, and format system.
Earlier today I tried flashing a JB ROM after doing a complete wipe/reset of my ST15i.Data,system,cache wiped.
After getting an error 7 I restored my previous ROM using TWRP but weird thing happened.
All my apps on SD don't work.
No icons in launcher,nothing.
I can see them however in the Downloaded section of the system storage menu.I cannot either run or move them back to phone.I get a message that apps don't exist.
What's happening here?
What can I do?
Restoring another TWRP backup same thing happens.
Fixing permissions didn't help.

AW: Restoring ROM went wrong?
I've noticed that, too and it's such a f**king problem. TWRP doesn't backup .android_secure (the apps on your sdcard) and when you did the wipe data/factory reset you've wiped that data
I guess there's no way to get your data back, if there is, please tell me (and OP of course). I was lucky because I had a titanium backup from these apps and I could simply restore it

Try cwm backup and restore option i use that only and cwm is more reliable then twrp

I can also confirm this by comparing backed up ROM sizes between TWRP 2.3.3.0 and CWM 6.xx recoveries.

If I take a backup from cwm can I restore it via twrp?

I think twrp is supposed to back up .android.secure. Try hitting the sd-ext radio button under back up and see what happens.
What's that?

Why do you want to restore your last ROM when you're going to flash CM again??
Please explain more clearly what ROM you are on now, and what you want to do.

I have a Nandroid backup before I flashed to CM10.1. Can I just reboot to recovery and restore my jelly bean back up?
Thanks!
Yep as long as you have the preload backed up it will restore
Hi guys, I read on this forum that, in order to do a succesfull restore of nandroid, the restore should be done with the same version of CWM.. but when I flash CM, it overwrite my CWM (6.0.3.7) with the version included in the CM.. so how can I be sure that i can restore from cyano?
I'm sorry if this is a too noob question, but I'm going to do my first flash of a custom rom.. and I want to be sure I can go back!!

If you have made a Bk up of you're rom with v6.0.3.7 then CM cwm will restore it. BUT do you have a Bk up of you're preload?? If not it won't restore. What rom/firmwear are you on?

Hi, thank you for your answer! I am on stock 4.1.2 firmware.. XLSW.. with Philz recovery.. i clicked on "backup preload" in recovery, so I think I had preload in my backup!
Sorry, but another question have just come out: this is also true with the CM11? I heard it needs another version of CWM (6.0.4.x)..
You can look at at you're nandroid in you're sd card to see if it's bked up. Best thing to do to get cm11 is look at Android development and then look for neatrom 4.4.2 and flash the recovery in the first post then REBOOT RECOVERY and then do the wipes and flash rom/gapps in that recovery. To restore you're nandroid just flash philz kernel and then REBOOT RECOVERY! Once you're Bk in philz cwn do the wipes and restore you're nand.

So, to upgrade to KK, I should flash a compatible recovery and then, without trying booting the system, flash the KK rom.. and then to restore my JB nandroid I should flash the philz and, again rebooting directly in recovery, do the restore..
For CM 10.1 to JB I should do nothing instead.. just restore the nandroid from CM recovery.. I understood right?
That's right. Always do the format of system, data, cache and preload before restoring a nand.

Ok.. I thought there was no need of wipes before a restore, because it overwrites everything.. but I was wrong!
