hi,
i'm on Cyanogen 7.1 with Golauncher installed.
Everything runs fine except for the default actions.
I loose them on every reboot (just as if it did the "clear data").
strange is that it kept the info before, now loosing it.
Is there a way to force the device to keep the default action ?
thanx
Try home switcher and make it default it may work.
Ya i too have the same problem:--(

I am running GB 3.5, and then ADW Launcher 1.3.6 Standalone. I was using the stock MotoBlur/GingerBlur launcher 'home screen' for while I was at work...and the ADWLauncher 'home screen' for all my apps, entertainment, not at work stuff. Whenever I hit the 'home' button, I would have the option of 'ADW.Launcher' or 'Launcher'. Yesterday, the sensitive screen accidentally marked the check box for 'use by default for this action'. Now I am stuck in ADW.Launcher, and for the life of me I cannot figure out how to get the original launcher with all my work settings on it to come up. I'm sure it has to be something really simple, but I'm at a loss.
Anyone know how to remove the 'use as default' checkbox so I can get both launchers back?
thanks
settings applications, adw clear defaults should do it

Why add an app and take up space when clearing the ADW defaults works?

Lol......cos' there's more than enough room on an Atrix. Don't think this one tiny app is gonna put storage over the edge. Also, if you end up trying different launchers, can make changing between much easier. Take a chill pill. A lot of people use it!

Clearing the adw defaults doesn't work at least not for me. If you install any other launcher you need the home switcher app or someone similar to be able to select motoblur again. Or uninstall the other launcher.
Clear Defaults is greyed out for me...says no defaults are set. I will try Home Changer app.
thanks
do you have titanium backup? if so, make sure that when you scroll down to "launcher", it is not frozen. If it is, just click on it and defrost it. then clear defaults and press home. voila!!
I went the 'Home Switcher' route, works well...and I have so much room on the Atrix I'm not worried about space....have 300+ apps right now, still running smoothly. It would be nice if the Home Switcher became part of the 'long-press' search button menu. Is there a way to do that? I know I downloaded an 'AutoRotate Switch' and a few other things that show up there. Does that have to be done on the development side, or can I somehow move Home Switcher to that menu for easy access.
Thanks for ideas, I always come to xda for the best solutions!
EDIT: So I added 'Home Switcher to my drop down notification menu using Bar Control, and am happy with that for now. I'm still curious about how it works getting things to long-press search menu though. Now that I have this quick way to switch Launchers, I'm thinking of adding a few more, like SPB 3D. Whenever I haven't been to the default launcher in a while, it takes a while to load, which leads me to believe it doesn't always stay active eating up resources while not in use. Anyone have any experience having 3 or 4 at the same time, and the impact on performance?

I have TB, so am I understanding correctly...I can freeze whole Launchers (all setup) if I won't need them for a while...and then un-freeeze them when needed...with everything returning as before? I've only frozen a couple things before, just testing it out...never a Launcher though.

This is why I mentioned Home Switcher. I had 5 or 6 launchers at one time, always switching back and forth "playing". I love my toy ........... I mean Atrix, and the launcher bug does bite until you find one or two which you will stick with. So many, and so many ways to customize. I never saw any performance hit with multiple launchers myself.
Hi,
I'm experiencing problems with my Home Launcher. Each time I press the Home button, i'm asked to choose between the available launchers, even if I tick the checkbox, whatever launcher I choose.
I've tried to reboot, to wipe dalvik, to delete launcher before re installing it, nothing worked...
Could any tell me where and how the Default Action parameter is stored, so I could try to find a workaround please?
Default is store at the apps you set as default in application.

Thanks.
Them it seems odd to me, as neither HTC, Android or Go Launcher Ex launchers are actually able to keep this setting...
First of all I have a Sprint Epic Touch 4G AKA Samsung Galaxy 2 S and not rooted, but I think this is an Android problem after 4 days of trying to find a solution.
I keep getting prompt to select which launcher(launcher or twlauncher) when I press the home button. I would select set as default and then select twlauncher. This would work fine and I could do what I want and the home button acts normally. BUT if I long press the home button to bring up task manager and a list of recent apps, it would break the default setting on twlauncher. I could go to setting and manage app and see that the default on twlauncher is now cleared even though I did not manually clear it. I tried checking set as default and then select launcher. It too won't stick AFTER I long press the home button.
Long story short, I downloaded several launchers from the market and none of them will stay set as default IF I long press the home button. It breaks the default every time and ask me to select the launcher to use when I press the home button. Now this would be great if I could just delete all the other launcher and have only one but I can't delete the stock launcher or twlauncher.

So the first time this happen, I was driving down the road using telenav when I see the prompt to select which launcher(something that I've never seen after using the phone for 2 weeks). Did some research elsewhere and found no solutions so here is what I have done in chronological order:
1. Start task manager and kill all active app and clear memory from RAM
2. Clear defaults from manage application....twlauncher
3. Click home button, click set as default and then launcher instead of twlauncher- still does not stick after long press home button.
4. Manage application...twlauncher CLEAR DATA (sure enough my neatly organized homepage and apps folder was reset to stock).
5. Pull battery
6. Cycle power on and off.
7. Gave up after 24 hours and factory reset the phone.
8. Went on my merry way and reinstall apps and customizing home page and apps pages and so on.
9. In hindsight, I should have long press home button every time I installed a new app to see which one will break the default.
10. Phone works fine for 24 hours and then it mysteriously acts up again. It ask me to choose which launcher again.
11. Went back to googling and tried the following which did not work:
a. clear media hub data and default
b. installed Sprint "clean" ID and then later deleting it.
c. installed go launcher and see if it will stick
d. installed launcher pro
e. installed home switcher
f. I don't have Qik or some child lock apps
g. search XDA and found about 15 threads and tried everything in those thread short of using Titanium to freeze one launcher.
Any update on a working solution? Right now I just won't long press the home button to bring up task manager or recent apps and everything will work just fine. Minor annoyance but I guess I can live with it until the ICS update.
its because the task manager is part of TWlauncher and will break the default launcher selection when you use it

No it won't break the default launcher on my wife's stock Samsung epic 4 G touch. I could long press the home button and it won't ask me to choose which launcher when I press the home button.
Fixed Default Laucher Problem.
So I decide to finally root the phone and install Calk's Rom 2.0. Everything was working great but finally, long press the home button breaks the default launcher again. There was only two launchers installed by default. Launcher Pro and TWLauncher. I wiped Dalvik Cache but the problem resurfaced after a few long press.
I launched ES File Explorer, enable root access, show hidden files, navigate to system/app and rename LauncherPro.apk to LauncherPro.bak. That fixed the problem and I rebooted just to make sure. Since there is only one launcher available now, I can't break the default launcher anymore no matter how many time I long press the home button.
Have you tried uninstalling the original home app???

What do you mean by "original home app"? Home switcher, launcher, twlauncher?
I did not find the option to uninstall LauncherPro in Calk 2.0 ROM and no option to freeze it using appextractor either. But renaming the extension to .bak did the trick. I like twlauncher better than launcherpro anyway.
No need to flash new rom or do a factory reset

I had the same problem and did a factory reset that temporarily solved the problem but that is definitely not the solution.
The problem is the third party software that could be any app (for me was"Photoid Pro")
The Solution: When it happen for the first time (you must reboot after each App installation and if you are prompted to select a Launcher) immediately delete the app you just installed and reboot again, I am sure you will be back to your default launcher.
If already have the problem you should install "Launcher Switcher" from "google play" open and if you see anything beside your launchers Delete them and that would set you back to default launcher.
Install One App at a time so you know the culprit.

Thanks, dude!! I was about to wipe my phone. A photo app I have been using for years was causing it. Oddly enough it updated last night and this begun.

Hi,
I love TaskXP and using it to make my n button act more or less like an iphone's; I click once to return to the Android desktop, and twice to get a list of running apps that I can switch to, close, or other things.
The problem is that every time I restart my nook, it forgets that I've chosen to make TaskXP the default program for when I press the n button, and so it reprompts me (do I want the default to be the Nook launcher, GoLauncherEx, or TaskXP) and I have to select "set as default" and then select "TaskXP" all over again.
Does anyone know how I might be able to make it the default relatively permanently? Or what I should look at to see if there's something erasing the defaults or something like that?
Thanks!
ST
I had that problem before as well. Made me stop using it... you could try to move the taskxp APK from /data/app to /system/app and install it from there. After that reboot and see if the problem is still there. Usually installing certain apps as system apps will get rid of any bugs concerning the setting of defaults.

I have an app installed on my S2 which occasionally causes some issues. One serious issue is an occasional tendency to cause the phone to keep jumping to the Home page. Unfortunately, I need the app installed due to work reasons.
When it starts acting up, I've found to solutions. The simpler one is to reboot the phone. The second one is to open the applications manager, go to the app's details and force-stop it (normal stop is insufficient), after which it canbe restarted. However, if it's displaying the home-page-jumping bug, this is difficult because the phone exits the app manager before I can reach the required screen.
Is there a way to set up a shortcut so that I can kill the app with one click? Alternatively, is there an app which will allow me to do somethig like this?
Thanks
If u use another launcher like nova or apex it's already there, with ur app icon.
U only have to it (a kind of popup menu opens) and select App-Info.
Here u get directly to settings>apps>*app name*
Hope I could help.

I'm using Go Launcher Ex, does it have that option?
Alternatively, is it possible to set this up using Rom Toolbox Pro's Command Shortcuts?

I don't know, just try it.
Long press on the app icon (homescreen) and see in the popup menu for "Details" or "App-Info"

Way down at the bottom of the list there's a setting that says "kill app back button" . Check the box, then to use...long press the phones back button and it *should* kill the current foreground app.....

The problem is that the app never works in the foreground - it runs as a service
Try this......
http://db.tt/RDQzQ0yf
It's a clone of the Samsung stock task manager which I found here on XDA. Use a root explorer to copy and paste it into system/app, set the permissions to rw-r--r-- and reboot. It has that "active applications" tab and the associated "exit all" button. It might help....can't hurt....
