I'm sorry if this has been posted before. I would like some advise as to whether I should buy the GTablet being that I'm confident with Root and Roms and is only $300 on Amazon now or whether I should save a bit more and get the Motorolla Xoom. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance!

Personally, I know one person that bought a Xoom last week, and he returned it after 1 day. He had nothing but problems. It kept freezing and rebooting. I tried to talk him into a Gtab, but he ordered an Ipad2.
I pondered the same thing and ended up going for the gTab, and have no regrets. Basically, I decided that the Android tablet market is moving so fast right now, that anything I bought would be largely obsolete in a few months ... and I felt way better about spending $300 on something like that than $600.
My only suggestion would be to play with a gTab first if you can, to make sure you're OK with the narrow viewing angle of the screen. (I am.) Other than that, the gTab and the Xoom are surprisingly comparable machines.

The gtab is a wonderful device for the money. Despite the hype about the xoom and honeycomb, the device is not that much better than the gtab. For more than twice the price of the gtab, you are getting a little better screen and a buggy and laggy OS. Honeycomb really is a 1.0 and it is still full of bugs.
That said, I highly recommend the ipad or ipad 2.
Wait for the transformer. I like where Asus is going with this tablet.
I know I know, off topic ;-)
I played with the xoom and it just made me happier to have my Gtab.
I would wait a bit longer as there are several other tablets coming out soon; probably the most anticipated is the Asus Eee Pad Transformer rumored to be sold for $400.
The gTablet is a great 'tinkering' device and if you have the dough now $280 is a good price for a 'toy'.
If you want something serious then I would wait to see how things shake out since there are a myriad of new tablets out this year.
I wouldnt even consider a xoom with the acer A500 coming on the 24th.
-j
Get a XOOM if you just don't care about wasting money
I have both
I have both a 3G Xoom and the Gtablet. Actually this is my second Gtab. I dropped the first and broke it. I then purchase a Xoom to replace it, but I missed my Gtab and replaced it on the Woot sale.
I don't have any issues with my Xoom all the apps I normally use run just fine on it. The screen is fantastic on my Xoom. It the best screen I have seen yet on a tablet. Even so, I still use my Gtab more than the Xoom.
Running the new GB rom from gojimi the Viewsonic is as smooth as glass and the touch sensitivity is perfect. The tablet is fast and dependable. At this time I personally would not buy a Xoom if I had to do it again. I would wait until some of the other tablets hit the market, which should be very soon. I would compare them all and then decide.
I believe we will see the price drop some on the Xoom as the new tabs are released. I am not saying that I would not buy another Xoom, it still would be at the top of my list. It is a Google experience tablet and Motorola is an American company, both are pluses to me, but there will be a lot of options available shortly.
Thanks to the developers here at XDA the gtab is a great value with the current pricing. Honeycomb needs some work in my opinion before it is on par with gojimis VEGAn-TAB GingerEdition. The gtab is also a relative inexpensive tablet for a noob like myself to learn how to mod on. I guess for me the bottom line is, I have more fun with the gtablet then I do with the Xoom.
Thank you so much to all! I will wait till the transformer comes out and if its as expensive as the xoom I will go with the Gtablet as it seems the best buy for the money. Thanks again for all your quick replies!

I'm still waiting for an order of the TF201 to actually go through for me and now I'm beginning to wonder if that’s a sign. I'm sure I'm not the only one who is now stuck in the uncomfortable situation of decided whether to continue trying to get the TF201 or to suck it up and wait a few months for the new Prime to come out.
Asus is trying to market the TF700T as some sort of Transformer Prime HD, but, due to the TF201's issues, this looks like a "quick fix" model leaving the early adopters of the Prime behind. I've noticed some arguments going for both sides and I was wondering if anyone had a clear argument for waiting.
Not a lot of information is out there right now, but to me the argument is as follows:
Is paying $100 more and waiting ~5 months worth better GPS/WIFI/BT, Resolution, & front-facing camera?
I would appreciate any input from current TF201 users.

I am in the camp where I do think this TF700T is a bug fix release. I do not care for the higher resolution screen which may introduce other unknown issues. The current Prime is an excellent tablet. The only issue for me is knowing there is a design defect with the back plate. I may never use GPS but I do not know what I will be do in the future and that is what pisses me off. You will need to decide if that is a big deal for you or not.
So, I got my prime today from amazon. Then i noticed the tf700t post. I should be pissed but I'm enjoying my prime too much. And I don't know the specs of the tf700t yet. If its a tegra3 with 1920x1200 then its worth it.

Well i currently own the prime and its awsome I would rather have my prime then wait over 6 months for the next one just to get basically a better screen resolution. The screen on the prime is already very crisp and clear and you probably wont notice that much of a diffrence between this screen and the new ones screen. As for gps, its really over rated because you really arent going to be using it al all. Wifi and BT preformance is pretty good on the prime. So basically your paying 100$ more and waiting at least 5-6 months for GPS and a higher res display
Well judging by the many faults I'm finding with the TF201, I think I had my fill of going on hype buys from ASUS.
Show me ICS and I'm done.
Unless you really want that higher res display and you actually are going to use the GPS, I would just get the current Prime. By the time the TF700T launches, there will probably be faster quad cores
Five months in the tech world is not "waiting", it's a generational change.
Should I buy (insert any product here) now or wait 5 months for (next generation product) has been the same question since the first Macintosh came out, it seems.

I take you don't have a Prime and you have been overly influenced by the issue discussion that ignores the 95% of happy users. Love my PRIME!
Grab that Lenovo!
I have and love my Prime and I am getting the keyboard dock in the mail tomorrow. Am I upset about todays announcement? Not at all. Everyone that is *****ing needs to get over themselves. ASUS runs a business and if you think the tech you purchase today isn't outdated two weeks later, you are surely misinformed. Relax!!
I am going to enjoy my prime and dock for the next 4 to 5 months and then sell the TF201 and upgrade when it comes out in Q2. The dock is said to work on both models.

I don't think there's any "good supplier" because the defects are because of ASUS, not the stores. So I guess it just depends on whether you're lucky or not. I got a 32GB Grey from Best Buy that had absolutely no problem and now my 64GB Grey from NewEgg is also absolutely perfect. Besides 1 dead pixel that fixed itself after a couple of hours.

I say you wait for it so when it finally comes out you can asked yourself the same question about the TF700T cause the super duper optimus prime x3 gets announced. it's a endless cycle bud
If the 700 comes out 5 months from now, it will be absolutely clobbered. It packs specs to compete with January-March/April devices. 5+ months from now, even higher resolution, more RAM, A15 processors, and similar spec bumps will start coming out. The 700 has 3 months to come out before it's too little too late.
I ordered I Transformer Prime on 12/23, didn't receive nothing and now they're announcing the "new" prime??? I'd love to resist the urge the get "this" Prime and wait some more MONTHS, but i've waited nearly 2 month. Can't resist any longer.

I know exactly where you're coming from, and after reading these posts, I have decided to stick with the TF201. Now I just have to hope that my OfficeDepot order doesn't get backordered again.
So, I want a tablet. I bought my wife a nook color, but by then, my phone was already superior to it. I bought her an iPad 2, she loves it. It is pretty sweet. My 5 year old thought all tablets were nooks, now she calls them all iPads, she says,"what's a tablet?" I tell her it's a portable device that does everything a NetBook does but not as well. Enter the Transformer Prime. I've read the spec sheets, I've read the reviews, and I've read many of the threads here. I still believe, its the nicest Android tablet on the market today. I think the keyboard dock is just the absolute s#it, and for the most part, it seems like everyone that has one is ready to jump ship. But to where? The Transformer Prime S (T301)? I guess after owning a Tegra 2 phone, and feeling ready to upgrade at Christmas, I wonder if this summer won't hold other options. The Tegra 3 uses an A9 cortex, a dated architecture, the Galaxy Tab is due for a new rendition, Jelly Bean will be out soon, and many other factors make me wonder, is this a bad time to buy a Transformer Prime? So I'm asking those who own one, what are you looking at? If you needed to/could afford/whatever other hypothetical/ a second tablet (or 3rd or 4th, whatever) today, what would you get?

You should wait for prime infinity. It seems to be better with the krait.... but if you want raw power go for the tegra 3. I have the 1 with t3 and its fantastic..

Also the tf700(infinity) has better gps and wifi connection .. you should wait a few weeks to see how things play out... but if you want a tablet right now tf201 is your best option

If money doesnt and some time dont matter wait for the Infinity Tab. Its the next best thing, but who knows when its actually available.
If money and time do matter there is nothing better than the prime. Its seriously awesome. Its the best package there is, combination of everything for the smallest price possible. So I'd say go for it. I'd never buy a tablet without a dock. There are sooo many times where i think ah just plug it in. And if its only when im lying on the couch to use it as a stand
You'll always be chasing technology if you sit & wait for what's just around the corner. The Prime is great. Buy one, use it & enjoy it now. Or wait for the better tegra 4/5/6/7/8, ipad 4/5/6 that'll be here tomorrow

I own the Prime and I'm very happy with it, keyboard included, will buy the 700 when the T43 chip from Nvidia is out somewhere next year (Q3?) Tegra 4 at 2.0GHz sounds very sweet indeed.
Maybe you should wait? Or maybe buy the mighty Prime meanwhile?
Decide wisely!

The wifi-only version will have Tegra 3, the 4G version will have the S4.
Right, because Tegra doesn't support LTE...The benchmarks I've seen show the S4 out performing the Tegra even with only 2 cores, but rendering graphics is still better given the Tegra's better GPU. So, anyone know anything from the Samsung camp tablet-wise?

outdated? maybe on someone else's terms/point of view.
my prime is better than some machines i use at my place, and they still work as they are intended too. meaning, just get the device if you like it. devices are all becoming more powerful, it's an always-accelerating process until it hits a wall that's too high to jump.. like it happened to desktops. we had to use more cores. one core cpus evolution stopped @P4/Athlon. same with mobile devices. we're using more cores. chips are getting smaller yes, and that allows for... more cores.
now i think ok, so i've got enough power on a tablet..how about linux on a tablet? for that i would need a keyboard. waaaait.. asus transformer prime, powerful specs+dock/qwerty kb+touchpad.. with an "2" batteries.. got to get my hands on that!
edit: of course, i also read the threads around here before buying it, but i thought that i should just go for it, because i liked the device. plus, nvidia has been a good supporter for linux software, but i won't go into further details into that (the nvidia relation with linux os on the desktops). the first i got the tablet didn't charge, dock was fine. returned it, got a new one. wifi seemed nice (5/10 dBm less than my nexus prime ), gps too (13 locks/14in view on my balcony, inside the house forget it), so i kept it.
so i did and never looked back. now, i've got to, my display has light-bleed issue, but hey, i've kept it more than 15days untouched , the issue appeared, i'm entitled by warranty terms to have my device repaired. if they cannot, i'll will ask for a replacement. if not available, a refund.
i love it.

I bought the Prime cause I wanted a device that would last at least 5 years. And from what I had seen about the specs the prime fit the bill. Down side is all the problems poor wifi unstable browser Bluetooth unstable if using wifi. But even so out of the box on HC it was awesome until I upgraded to ICS Gps went to **** and wifi started to flake out. Update to .15 killed my TP had to keep it plugged in so the battery would not die sudden restarts the next update fixed the battery drain. Even so when they get the ICS stable it will be a tablet that lasts. With the keyboard station it gets 12 hours battery live for me. I was able to get close to the listed 18 hours but that was with it set up to preserve the battery. Works good for movies but not for games and browsing the web.
So even though it has problems, I would say grab one. Asus has been so far acting in good faith even though at times it may seem otherwise. If you are getting one make sure it is a C3 or C4 serial number avoid the C0,C1,C2 ones due to the problems I have listed and others have posted here.
I picked up my TF201 after looking around for a while and thinking "What is cost-effective, able to play games, do office work, and be a source of entertainment" and there I have the Prime....
Thank you to all who participated, that's all I really wanted, to start a conversation. I learned a lot here, I have decided to and see wait is around the corner. I thank you all for a great and lively discussion.

Hey everyone, my prime will be delivered tomorrow and I am extremely excited, but after being on the forums and hearing about the new tablets asus will be announcing I began to worry about my investment.
I'm beginning to worry about whether the prime will continue having steady upgrades and ultimately a jump to the next android OS. What do you all think?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda premium
yes it will continue to be sold and supported. we actually have an update that should be coming between now and next week sometime(i hope what i was told holds true). Asus has the best firmware support when it comes to updates n such. so there should be no worries on that part. plus with developer support here in xda, you in good hands.
I honestly don't want to think anything as that would be spreading rumors.
However, if the TF300T and maybe TF700T firmwares will be mostly compatible with the TF201, then there shouldn't be any problem.
The TF101 is still very well supported by Asus. In my opinion, Asus provides hands down the best, and most timely, ongoing support. They're awesome in that regard.
PS - my Prime and dock was delivered today and is waiting at my house. Really excited!!

All you have to do is take a look at what is happening with the original Transformer which has been out for over a year now. The Prime was released several months ago yet the 1st gen is still getting updates (including ICS). So you shouldn't really be worried about this at all. Like others have said ASUS is really good about keeping their products up to date as far as software goes.

ah hah..lol its a stud then? told you
Sorry OP, we're going off topic here, but my 30 minute impression after owning the Prime...
Hardware-wise, this thing exudes quality in a way the 1st gen Transformer could never dream of. Really, really awesome. Keyboard and trackpad are substantially improved as well. Device performance is definitely making a good first impression.
Super happy so far. After jumping on the original Transformer at launch, I was thinking I'd skip the Prime and wait for the next generation. Well, I guess I got bored. Plus I was really in love with the Prime's style in a way that the upcoming 700 couldn't quite match. Went with the Champagne by the way, not as big a fan of the amethyst or whatever it's called, which I looked at in a local Best Buy.
I've got a firmware update pestering me but I'm going to hold off until I do a bit more reading on the current situation. I understand the latest firmware isn't rootable, and I'm not yet sure I'm ready to void my warranty with the Asus unlock.
Anyway, glad to be aboard!
Total stud so far, thanks for the encouragement to go for it! I even had gps lock in the house! We have 2 wifi routers, so I can't imagine a wifi problem. Will venture to the yard tomorrow and see how far I can get. Gotta figure out what else to try on it. Pinball was fun :-D ohhh, and the screen is amazing. I'll be able to read at park and waiting for kids ball this summer with no problem. I need sunglasses for the super ips+!

Totally agree about the screen. In addition to brightness, I'd say the TF201 has a bit of an advantage in clarity and contrast over the TF101 as well - which I consider to have a very good screen. I was always really impressed with the TF101's screen, even compared with my Galaxy Nexus which blows it out of the water in terms of pixel density, black levels, and color saturation.
This is fun!
I'm potentially getting a used one today to replace my iPad. I'm moving from the apple ecosystem to android. Had an android phone now for a while and would rather have a tablet as well versus incomplete syncing of the two.
I last had an android tab in January and the app scene was very bad for tablets, and I read the prime had a lot of issues.
Did either resolve?
I'm getting it cheap, so I don't mind the infinity coming out and may switch to it later. But want to get a head start on moving my extensive ecosystem to google
As a Prime owner, my advice is to stay far away from anything Asus. It's becoming clear to me they can't fix the issues in this device. I wish I never bought mine.

Wow... Sadly I don't know an alternative non-7 inch android tablet...
I feel your pain, as I'm also interested in a 10" tablet with plenty of storage, and there are no great options at this point. I'm just trying to give you a heads up. Between the slow ass I/O issues that they obviously can't fix, the firmware releases that keep fixing one thing and breaking 3 others, the cheap parts used (search the forum for LCD mura), the poor design choices (good luck connecting to a far away Wifi signal), and the terrible support (read some of the horrible RMA stories here), I wouldn't touch another Asus product with a 10 foot pole.

maybe the best will be to wait a lil bit more and see the TF700. But in any case, I really don't see the point of buying the Tf201 right now, with the 300 offering a very similar experience (imho there some quite recognisable slow downs overally speaking but it's still close enough for the price difference) for a cheaper price, and the Tf700 to be shipped in the following weeks. For those proficient in french, here is a test of the device
http://www.lesnumeriques.com/tablet...pad-infinity-tf700-avec-dock-p13514/test.html
and as far as the wifi goes, it's as smooth and stable as the 300 (if not better). So no matter how many software updates Asus is going to throw at us, it is highly unlikely that our beloved prime Tf201 (yes I still love the tablet even though it pisses me bigtime to have such a mediocre wifi connectivity) going to achieve that performance.
I would look into Samsung if i could do it again or Acer Iconia as a close second.
I would go for it! I am having a wonderful experience with my Prime. It's by far the best Imo. Forums are ruled by people seeking answers to there issues either caused by themselves tinkering with the device or just real issues. Most are quite happy. You should check out the Positive Transformer Prime thread linked to my sig. Then decide for yourself.
I have two primes and one 300. I like them all. My unlocked prime with wookie ROM is the best. It is faster than my laptop. Why not buy a prime if your getting it for a good price?

I generally agree with jj here.. I love my Prime. Yes, there's a few little quirks here and there, but nothing as world ending as some people would have you believe. Compared to the other devices on the market, I'd still go with this one if I had to again.
(Now, if a Nexus 10 comes out.. mmm.. bets might be off
As it is with anything on the internet... the 5% that have problems make up the 95% majority who scream the loudest.

That and I just can't see anyone (in their right mind) that would post positive "complaints" on a developer/troubleshooting forum...
My $.02: I have it, it's OK. I would not buy one again. Basically when you buy a Prime keep in mind that you're buying an "almost ready for beta" product.
Bottom line: if you don't mind beta testing for ASUS (yes, 8 months later and we're still beta testing) then go for it!
If you're getting it for $300 or under then do it. Otherwise go for a Galaxy Tab.
Go for it! been loving mines since I got it in dec. not everyone has issues. jjdevega summed it up best.
I think you have to accept the mindset that you are going to have to tweak your Prime to get everything just right. Coming from an iPad this will be a different experience.
Personally I have experienced all the issues mentioned above on my Prime. I even RMA'd and refunded my 1st unit. However, I have been having a lot of fun applying the different tweaks and experimenting with what works best for my individual use case. I can tell you that my Prime is absolutely BLAZING right now - it is completely stable and performance is beyond my expectations.
I was pessimistic for a long time, but now I know I prefer having the options (because of an amazing developer community) to tinker and modify.
If this is appealing to you, the Prime is a great choice.
well , i think i have been top complainer on the prime. However i love this tablet.
its not perfect yet but i trust in asus that they start working on it now the google tablet is done.
some weeks ago i was really pessimistic but developers like wookie, motley baboo, ckhtml and more, and demandarin for his help with submitting issues, gave back hope.
and tbh, asus support has been great since tf101 however something went realy wrong with ICS on both devices , cant ignore that.
conclusion: for a good price i would buy it. buy with s/n c4 or higher.
keep calm and see what asus is offering in the future. their new devices is still kinda like in beta mode, endless problems waiting to be fixed. im not even sure nexus 7 is safe to use. best is hold ur horses and see what others review abt it.
the TF700T is supposed to come out next month at $499, which is what the prime sells for new right now. so I would keep this in mind when buying a used prime...
I have had my Prime since December and it has been fine. However right now I would recommend waiting until Mid-July and buying the TF Infinity. It will start at the same base price ($500) has a better screen and a plastic panel that should fix any wifi/gps problems people have had with the Prime. Plus it is compatible with practically all TF-Prime accessories including the keyboard dock.
Right now that is likely to be the best choice for a 10" Android tablet.
good read
If money isn't an concern, I would get a prime.
I as well moved from the IPAD. It's great for what I use it for, however my wife uses it as well.
I wanted her to have her own and so I started the search for another tablet that would suit the needs I have.
After roughly three months of research it came down to two things.
Either buying a Transformer Prime or TF300. Or waiting for the TF700 to hit in July.
Personally I've seen hi-res screens, unless your a graphics designer and your going to do EXTREME graphics rendering and modeling
(which at that point you should be using a PC or MAC desktop - my thoughts that is. )
then getting the Prime is the way to go. I got mine a few days ago, and it's done everything my IPad can do + some, no issues with Wifi - havent tested the GPS because I don't need it for that.
I've used several SD cards and again no issues what so ever.
The ONLY thing I will say in making your decision, is always get the bigger storage size, I have the 64gb and It's EXACTLY what I want / need!

i second this... i have had it with Asus. i was one of the first one to get Prime cause i love android. but Asus's ability to integrate the software is driving me crazy. and not to mention how they handled GPS issue... me personally are jumping ship back to ipad..... at least i won't get ANR everything 10mins.....
I'm also happy with the prime so far. My only concern about is that after months of daily using I really see a big advantage in the 7 inch form factor in many use cases. There was a great video interview with Matias Duarte on the verge about the design of the nexus 7 tablet two days ago or so and it nailed it on the head. So my next tablet will be the Nexus one, but I'll keep the prime as well.
