hi all, here's the 6months old question. Everyone wants this not only me.
Here's my question:

I want this iPhone/iPod screen ROTATING effect with the accelerometer. (Landscape/vertical) in our android. I ask this question when i was on android 2.1 but now its 2.3(gingerbread).
Also, i got this COMMENT when i asked this ques. 6 months ago.
"Once the new custom kernels are released with the FPS cap removed, screen transitions and other animations will be as smooth or even smoother than the iPhone's. I suggest waiting, jerpelea is working hard his own, as well as zdzihu."
So now, custom kernels are released and bootloader is also unlocked. Still, no one is working on this transition rotation effect.
work in progress....
Doesn't our phone already do that? Auto rotate?

check the video. I want this screen rotation transition effect in all menu as well as in homescreen
tbh, I don't think android will do that.
API must be integrated in the OS from the very beginning since OS itself need to interrupt particular apps to draw the rotation.
This is not kernel/bootloader layer but the OS itself, which I guess Google also doesn't want to have some stupid patenting conflict with Apple. (same to WM7, W8, WebOS, blah blah)

I've grown tired of the regular android look of 4x4 icons, dock and widgets. I want a different type of launcher ( I wish i had the stock launcher for the kindle fire), but something that is very different, any ideas? P.s. I've tried launcher 7...
Rocket Launcher is pretty unconventional. Not my style, but check it out. http://goo.gl/JrCBb
I've tried it too, but it wasn't snappy enough, and limited customization. It was a great start though. thanks

Best money spent on market other than Tasker. No, it's not an actual home screen but it's an excellent launcher!
If you are patient and persistent, Sweeter Home is real nice. It is in perpetual beta, and the dev isn't really supporting it, but you can find users here in xda.
I'm including a few screenshots. The right side has tabs that bring up boxes of user selected apps. This is my setup. Search for sweeterskins and see what others have done also. YouTube has a few videos.

One handy feature I forgot to mention is that you can show and hide settings switches and widgets as they are needed. You can see in my screenshot that my GPS widget comes into view when I am selecting a navigation app. This gives me a heads up on GPS status and a chance to activate if off. Up to 9 widgets can occupy the same spot and you can select which one is going to be displayed.

Pretty cool! I'm going to give that a go.
BTW, the home page is http://www.sweeterhome.com/, and they just released a new beta on 10 Feb 2012.
launcherPro allows you to re-size widgets and icons kinda stretches them though

i like go launcher
LauncherPro and Go Launcher aren't really that unconventional. Neither is ADW nor Nova, for that matter.
Btw, duckredbeard: what theme are you using with sweeter? Looks quite sweet!
It's my own theme...look for SD004. It will take some work to make it work for you as I have alot of Tasker and MinimalisticText going on. I will do some edits to make it more adaptable for others. Check back to this thread for updates on when it is available.

would be awesome..
Is it possible to make the camera and lock icon not appear by default?
I think whats happening is that the power and home button simulate a touch on the screen, hence the camera and lock icons appear after and the ripple from the center icon. Thats just ,y theory but it would be nice to have only the center button appear on screen on.
i dont know why this happened...
i tried fix it using cm9, but it was difficult..
will this work on stock pre-rooted 2.3.4 ?

Thanks for the effort.
I, too, have spent hours on learning about framework just to solve this. I decompiled both yours and CM9's framework to do a Windiff. Most files were same with minor differences that shouldnt affect the lockscreen behavior. There were also newer but visually equal png files in CM9 but that too should not cause any problems.
What I have concluded, therefore, is that the problem is not in framework-res.apk but in framework.jar. I know nothing about java and may be too stressful to learn yet another protocol for this lockscreen problem. However, if you know java, maybe you can look into it.
My observation is that on boot, the lock screen shows up without the unlock and camera icons. Only when power button or home buttons waking the screen does the icons appear, and usually between 0-100 ms after the screen is on, which means there is something to do with how the phone wakes and how either button can trigger the same response as a touch on the screen.
Thanks a lot. its awesome.
Just one question.
is there any way to switch the camera function to Mute/Silent function?
Just like the original Xperia does?

don't think so its' vor ICS Beta, you gonna get Bootloop
I can't seem to find a good screenshot of it (and the only person I know with a tablet's sleeping, so I'll post one tomorrow if I get the chance), but in Honeycomb and the tablet version of ICS, when you scroll on your current home screen to another screen you can see light-blue glowy outlines for the icons on the screen you're scrolling to.
Is it possible to replicate that effect in ICS for a phone? Would that have to be something done at the homescreen level, or something deeper? The Android tablets always had my attention with this effect.
Thankies! =]
Apex launcher, free in market, lets you have that animation. It is like ICS stock launcher with a lot more options. Choose trasition effect as tablet from Apex home screen settings.
I know exactly what you are talking about. I suggest you maybe contact the APEX launcher guys (Android Does) and see if that is even possible. I like it too and think it would be cool on the phone level.
Wow, you guys replied quickly... Thank you both. =D

It sort of does; it has the outline of the homescreen that moves around, which looks kinda' cool. However, it's still missing the part where the icons and widgets get that same outline treatment and then as they move in, slowly become visible.

Will do; I just wish Apex Launcher would let me move my homescreens around when I'm in the preview mode. xD It's the one thing I preferred Nova Launcher for, but Apex has improved lots since when I first used it (when it first came out).
Landscape mode?

Hey guys,
I've just unrooted my phone, made a full data wipe (with the mega wipe script ), flashed the new I9300ZSEMA1 via odin.
I reainstalled all the application I had.
My phone it's still (I've done all this to free my phone form the UI's lag maledition ) lagging.
It happens many times when i click bottoms and it has to load smth.
Apart from this, it happens other times casually, event though it's not that evident, but I see there's ppl here saying "my phone it's never lagging", "it's smoother than ever", "it's a beast", etc.. so i want to understand!
Here's my info screen

As said, it's stock 4.2.1, unrooted.
I was thinking about installing a kernel like Siyah and manipulating smth about screen from there.
Are there any other options? Which ones?
I've tried (without much of a success ) the subsequent moves:
1 Delevoper Option --> Force GPU rendering [ON]
2 Developer Option --> Disable hardware overlays [ON]
3 Developer Option -->Window animation scale [0.5x]
4 Developer Option --> Transition animation scale [0.5x]
5 Removing Samsung weather widget from the home screen
And that's my current configuration, for what it's worth.
Where would you go from here?
P.S. CAN I SET THE IMAGE RESIZE VIA BBCODE?
Is resizing it previously the only way?
Why are you messing with settings you clearly know little of? You should never have "Disable hardware overlays" on. That sure as hell won't make your phone smoother.
thank you for your help, i'm trying to move smth!
what does Disable hardware overlays mean?

Read this:
Without a hardware overlay every application that is displaying things on the screen will share video memory and will have to constantly check for collision and clipping to render a proper image, this can cost a lot of processing power. With a hardware overlay each application gets its own portion of video memory, getting rid of the need to check for collision and clipping.
Basically, using hardware overlays can reduce CPU usage by quite a bit, so I would leave it enabled.

no one?
Install either Siyah or Perseus kernel and remove bloatware which you don't use

Maybe it lags because you're trying too hard to make it not lag, which currently is impossible. Try flashing a heavily debloated rom like WanamLite, then apply gokhan's latest siyahkernel, then try "bestmultitaskingfix v7" and let everything settle for a few days.
Also, don't be worried if it lags a lot just after boot-up, it's bound to do so while caching.

that's funny because in the previous post i opened, blaming for the galaxy s3's tendency to lag, everyone was saying the opposite lol
Hello all. My coworker lost a portion of her dominant thumb recently. She's on a Pixel 2 on Android 11. Is there any way she can permanently make the phone's screen only take up a smaller portion of the whole display? So in essence, to have a decent chunk of padding on the left and top parts of the screen so she can always reach every part of the screen?
Her phone is rooted. We tried a few DPI and resolution changer apps, but none of them did what we want which is to have a bunch of padding to the left and from the top, permanently.
Preferably the setting would be permanent and not needed to be turned on, and will work across all apps. We tried the "One-Handed Mode" module for Gravitybox but it did nothing when applied.
Is there any way to accomplish this with an ADB command or some sort of app that we haven't found yet?
Anyone?
If downgrading to Android 10 is an option, overscan would work like a charm.

Thanks for the snarky and useless reply; this video only makes the keyboard work with one hand, not the entire phone screen.

Sadly downgrading isn't an option but is there any way to do this in Android 11 if she's rooted?

Yes which is why I specifically asked if it can be done on a Pixel phone that is rooted.
