How is the GPS working for you? I had a Captivate and it never worked very well. I have the LG thrill now and the GPS is spot on. The Thrill just has absolutely horrible battery life. Has Samsung fixed their issues with the GPS?
I'm hoping for some good input. I'm not happy with the Thrill but I wanna know how good the galaxy s 2 is before I trade it in.
Thank you in advance

I've been traveling for work all week and have used google maps every day for both walking and driving. As a former captivate owner myself I can say the GPS on this phone has been awesome for me. I am running stock rom rooted and used titanium backup to debloat. Otherwise I have made no other modifications.
Good luck

GPS is fantastic on this phone. I used it for 5 hours straight from Jacksonville, FL to Augusta, GA and never once lost GPS signal. Compared to the Craptivate, it's night and day. I'm very pleased thus far.
GPS is amazing on this phone.
Been working great for me as well.
the gps is amazing. it is so freaking fast to lock on
Even though it's the "crippled" GSD4t variant, the SiRFStarIV in this phone is amazing.
Better than any previous mobile device I've ever owned... Just not as good as non-"crippled" StarIII, MTKv2, or even the STM Cartesio. But no mobile phones have full-blown GPS chipsets like that.
Thanks for all the help guys. Your making my decision a lot easier

Does anyone think that there may be a possibility that with Google's using a phone so similar to the Galaxy S that it may help out further development with the Galaxy S series? Think about it - the Hummingbird is about to go mainstream as far as development goes!
I've bought a Vibrant in the past and ended up selling it because of the horrid GPS issues (even with all the GPS "fixes" and custom ROMs), only to find out down the road that I never use the GPS functionality anyways.
I have a G2 right now - I like it, but the hinge on the keyboard leaves me concerned about how long the phone will last. I tried the MT4G as well - I simply couldn't tolerate the interface and development for that phone is pretty weak at the moment.
The crazy thought running through my head is that since I never use the GPS anyhow, I might want to see about getting a Vibrant again. I'm not worried about 2.2 not having been officially released yet, nor about 2.3 as I know before too long someone will port it to the Vibrant - I rarely ever use stock ROMs for more than a few days anyhow.
So, all GPS issues aside, am I foolish for thinking that it may be a good idea to pick up another Vibrant?
If you're thinking of picking up a Vibrant why not just wait until Decem--wait, nevermind. Want to buy my Vibrant?
Mostly because I don't want to lay out the $500 plus for the Nexus S when I can pick up a used Vibrant for cheap or trade someone my G2.
No other thoughts on this one?
I'll trade you. The gps issues are gone. Long gone.
Only reason I want a g2 is because I love HTC it feels nice and sturdy and has a flash.

How did u fix GPS?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I really never had a "major" gps issue to begin with, just with the amount of time that it took to get a lock. But as builds have progressed ... JK* JI* now JL1 its just gotten to the point where I get a lock in 3-5 seconds INSIDE the house. Plus, I've never run into a tenth of the issues that alot of members talk of having here. I think its mostly on the user, not the device.
Lag fix? Never have, never will!

GPS issues are mostly addressed with the latest ROM's.
The accuracy leaves to be desired, but if don't place your life on it you are fine.

Tell us your biggest problem you have with the tmobile galaxy s vibrant.
how would you change it?
Samsung/T-Mobile support an easy to break USB ports that's all overall excellent phone
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA Premium App
The USB port that's basically it. Also battery life sucks for me as well.
This phone was pretty well built other than the GPS sucking, but I don't use it that much nor do I actually have big problems like others.
We also need more love from Samsung so we can get a Gingerbread leak going
wonder why the usb ports dont last in these. maybe location?

Cuz before we use to plug in the phones just to charge them. Now every time you log in to XDA (or your favorite Devs. forum) there is some new **** you wanna install in your phone....plug-unplug...oh I just found this new cool wallpaper...plug-unplug...new ROM...plug-unplug...new kernel...plug-unplug...new (you get the point). You probably plug-unplug your phone 10 times during the course of one day. Back then it was just once every 2-3 days to charge. Don't say they make them cheaper now, they just get abused now.
...Oh yeah, almost forgot. My biggest problem (besides not getting GB for the Vibrant) is that when I wanna take a picture in a dark place I noticed I'm missing that little small LED light that shines when you take a picture which most new phones comes with....what is it called???...oh yeah is a ****ING FLASH SAMSUNG! WTF what is a roll of the dice? "OK lets see which of the new Galaxy S devices is NOT getting a flash just for the **** of it...roll it"...OR.... "Sir, sir we forgot to put a flash on the one going out for t-mobile"...." **** them I have Verizon anyways, keep going"
**** lack of proper gps, **** bad usb (actually mine is alright so idk) but goddammit! Why the **** doesn't this have flash?
there isn't even a logical answer to that.

ffc was obviously planned then removed, maybe they planned to release a second version with it all along.... kind of weasel-ish if you ask me
"omg new phone! it has what we took out of the first one!"
My only problem is getting the gps to work. If I manage to get it to work flawlessly, I'd be happy. As for battery life, I've found the ROMs that do give me the best battery life.

Hi all
anyone using a jawbone icon with their photon? it seems like it is having a lot of static issues. i was wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same problems.
I'm using an Era & having issues as well. I'm kinda leaning toward the Jawbone being the problem, as I have issues when connected to my work phone as well.
well i wasnt having this problem with my samsung epic -.- maybe they just don't like each other
I have a icon I had the epic and the nexus and I couldn't use the damn thing because of the horrible range and static it would literally sound horrible with the phone 3 feet away in my pocket. Once getting the photon the audio and range it's much better not the best but very usable I don't get people complaining to me when I am on it anymore and range is about 30+ feet and works great I personally think the headset is just crappy and plan to get a new Motorola one here soon, but with this phone it has been the best it has ever been.
Sent from my MB855 using Tapatalk
I use a Blue Ant T1 and I couldn't ask for better range 20-30 ft and its crystal clear.
Sent from my MB855 using XDA App
I use both the era and the icon and have no issues with either. Both work flawless and I get better range than with my evo.
BlueAnt is the best I've ever used, but lost mine and was short in cash so I got an icon and hated it...lost it too. I've stopped buying them anymore since I can't keep one for more than a month with out braking or loosing them.

Current sprint user here using the photon 4g. Not a bad phone by any means but Sprint coverage sucks. I'm not interested in the galaxy nexus as every Samsung phone I've ever owned has had major issues. I see the threads in the nexus forum. And see the nexus still suffers from poor GPS and android is bugs.
The only other phone Verizon has I'd consider is the razr Mainly because I have the photon and they are somewhat similar software and hardware wise. But I listen to music a lot on my phone and the resound just seems like a good choice.
Few questions, hows the GPS? Hows the performance? Any lag on sense? Speakerpbone loud?? I had a EVO 3d aand returned it the day the photon came out. It had a horrible camera, GPS was spotty, speaker phone wasn't loud at all and sense just lagged from time to time.
I have had great success from HTC in the past except for the EVO 3d....
So help me make the jump.lol
Sent from my MB855 using XDA App
Razr is a POS, lol.
On a serious note, the Rezound is a solid choice if you are coming to Verizon. No one has stated any issues with GPS accept the device has gotten hot for some users. Performance is on par for best device w/o perm root. The speakerphone is decently loud. It is as loud as my X2 was at least.
+1
Agreed ... I have done my fair share of reading these forums and GPS lock and Speaker Volume are not on the complaint list. Heat if you get a bad unit and possible dead pixels (which would the same for every phone) are the common complaints.
Razr screen.. OMFG HORRIBLE Pentile!!
If you go to a Verizon Store to get the Rezound make sure you stay there if you can and test it out... Like that if any of the common issues show up your right there for a replacement.
Sense runs perfectly no lag (that've noticed)
I don't use the camera but other Rezound users love it
GPS locks in pretty fast

sent from my sexy HTC Rezound. Bata ba ba bum, Im loving it.
I'm loving mine. It's everything I could want in a phone. GPS locks on faster than my droid charge. I do wish the speakerphone speaker was a little louder. Other than that I really like the phone.
I've never had a sence phone, always had touch wiz, so I'm actually enjoying my lag free sence.

Swyped from my Rezound 4G
ok, so i have an SGS4G now, and i've had it for about a year now (since when it came out, not exactly sure how long ago that was ) and at the time of my getting it, i had a vibrant. i didn't know much of anything about customizing android phones at the time and randomly one night i was like "i wonder what i can do to hack this thing". so i rooted my vibrant but never installed a rom or kernel cuz as i said, i had no clue what it really was.
but my question is, would it be ridiculous for me to go back to the vibrant? i mean i LOVE my SGS4G, but there is so much more available for the vibrant. and i don't really use my FFC and i'm on wifi for a lot of the day so i don't think only having 3g would be a big issue for me.
thanks for your input.
well if you want to flash custom roms then the vibe is the way to go as it has more development going than the 4g.

I had a SGS4G and I just sold it on eBay because their is just so many more options for this phone. The Roms that the SGS4G does have are great, but their are only like 2 or 3 developer's for that phone (who are awesome by the way). This phone just has so much more to choose from.

I'm due for my upgrade soon, and am finding it very difficult to find a replacement that offers as much. Never mind development, new phones are just not hitting the mark. Either the resolution is piss poor (SGS2), or removable storage is missing (Galaxy Nexus), or there's no removable battery (One S), or no development or support (Blaze 4g) etc.. This phone offered everything when it was released, and now I'm spoiled.
Swyped, not typed, from my Digital Brick
I winder if tmo offers any bonus for waiting to upgrade

I agree 100%. I had a choice between a Nexus S and this and I chose this and never looked back. This is a great phone to learn on but also it is extremely user friendly and now with all the ICS ROMs and many devs coming back on one form or another, it should be a no brainer. Does that extra G really make that much difference?
That's my question really. And I also wonder how the battery life is on the vibrant with custom Roms and kernels and whats the best combo?

You've already got that 1650mah battery from the 4g, and the Epic Touch's 1800mah also fits in the Vibrant, so battery life has gotten pretty good lately. Not to mention ICS ROMs, like AOKP, get very good battery life.

With Passion 13 RC1 and Ice Kiss Kernel 8.2 I was able to charge my phone every two days... amazing battery life... 3g always on! the only issue is that GPS breaks after deep sleep, so if you need that, it might be a pain in the ass..
right now I am using CM9 + SubZero Kernel #70. Battery life is not as good as the mentioned above, but it works very well. And GPS doesn't break after DS, as long as you get a lock once the system starts (first time at boot).
