Hi,
how do i get access to the wallpaper directory. I would like to replace on my tablet the original wallpapers with custom ones. I do not want to crop or use the Gallery for wallpapers all the time.
My tablet is rooted and i have read somewhere that the directory should for the wallpaper should be
/Data/Data/Com.android.settings/Files
but somehow i cannot access. Every time i click data nothing happens.
Thanks
Just place your wallpapers on the sdcard and you can use them. I think the stock wallpapers are in the launcher apk. Some custom ROMs and DocRambone have taken the wallpapers out for optimization.
I believe they are in the framework-res.apk
system/framework/framwork-res.apk

THANK YOU for asking this question! I have been looking and searching for a way to find my wallpaper (with no success until I found your post). Your path worked for me.
My steps:
I used Solid Explorer as the file manager
Then using the toolbar on the right-hand side of the screen, I went to Jump > Device > System root.
I located the data folder and clicked on it. I was then prompted by Superuser for admin permissions.
I then proceeded to data/data/com.android.settings/files where I found a file called "wallpaper" (no file extension).
At this point I copied that file to my Pictures folder and added ".jpg" to the end of the file name.
Suddenly, there was that elusive, original file, of the photo I had been seeking for so long!
I had taken a trip out to the "sticks" to a cabin that my family owns. I had taken lots of pictures, but through the course of several events all of the pictures (save this one) had been completely lost. As a result this photo became very important and iconic to me. Thank you Internet, and thank you indianx for posting the question. I now have my picture back and secured.

Hi,
which folder on the Tab contains the wallpapers for homescreen and lock screen? I would like to modify the lockk pictures slightly but cannot locate it on the tab through Filemanager.
Thanks
xdatroxx
Its located inside framework-res.apk
Ok, so there is no chance to modify/exhange some JPG?
Changing the lock screen results in some strange request to resize. I wanted to avoid that and put in my desired picture in the correct resolution right away.
thanks
xdatroxx
OK, found it, extracted the apk, send the image to PC, modified it.
Now, how to I make an apk file out of the extracted files and folders without risking to brick my tab when putting it back?
So the APK is just to be treated as an ZIP File. Easy to exchange the Pic.
Thanks.
I went to my framework-res.apk but could not find the homescreen image I wanted to relace. Could you tell me, step by step, how you managed this and what app you used etc?

Post #8 in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1330311
I currently use a HTC HD Mini (Photon) running the SCREAM ROM by Ling Gan. It has a few bugs for most of which there is either a workaround or fix but there is the one problem which has remained unsolved: the default wallpaper on everything BUT the home and lockscreens cannot be changed. It is of a tree in a meadow under a blue sky and when rotated to landscape changes to some smiling chinese lady in the "settings" submenu. Doesn't hamper use much but it is quite annoying.
I have tried a number of solutions some of which resulted in my having to reflash and others did nothing. I post this here because I think it is a CM7 issue. The ROM developers have so far been unable to post a solution within the thread and I am aware that a fix for similar problems on CM9 ROMs exists using ADB to edit framework-res.apk. I felt it was time the problem was tackled by the wider XDA fam. Used google translate to look on the chinese site where the ROM is native to (mobile-kon) but found no help as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
i think ur problem lays in the framework-res.apk it contains the look of the rom and the transition effects
you can mod apk with the apkmanager tool for ur computer in the frameworkresapk you should find the images u want to change replace them witch a black picture or something like that
if never done this befoure exept from changing some transition effects and i had a couple of errors among this
the easier way seems to search for the rom on another page cus the images ure stating are not standart in the cm7

Many thanks!
I started off looking through the "res" folder in framwork-res.apk using Root Explorer to identify the images for the wallpaper. They were
Res/drawable-land-mdpi/screen-background-dark-transparent.png
And
Res/drawable-mdpi/screen-background-dark-transparent.png
I then created a copy of framework-res.apk on my SD card and copied it onto my pc. I created new wallpapers to replace the ones I just mentioned, one in portrait, the other in landscape. They were 320x480 and 480x320 respectively. Using 7zip on the pc, I placed them in the corresponding folders (/drawable-mdpi for protrait and /drawable-land-mdpi for landscape).
I copied framework-res.apk back to my sdcard and then fired up terminal emulator to run the following commands
su
sys -rw
busybox cp /sdcard/framework-res.apk /system/framework
sys -rw
You might get error messages from running apps after this but ignore them and reboot. The idea is to replace the framework-res.apk in system/framework with the one you just edited.
After the reboot, you should have your newly created wallpaper showing up in settings in both landscape and portrait modes.
Please hit "thanks" for both jiffer1991 and I if this was helpful. Big ups to jiffer1991for pushing me in the right direction.

hm u got stuck in a bootloop thats what i meant when i mentioned errors =)
you could make a zip with the old framework res apk or reflash the cm rom
if u dont whipe data/cash ure setting will be safed
read some tutorials how to mod the framework res apk
I have an .zip file on the sd card.
Can i copy it to the Android system somehow?
Felix
P.S. can i zip the framework and remove the ".zip" to ".apk"?
It is most likely that the zip file you have is the ROM image from which you flashed in the first place. Changing the extension to apk is NOT what you want to do. I suggest you create a backup in CWM of you present configuration and after reflashing, you can then do a partial restore of your user data. But its like Jiffer1991 said, read up on CWM, theres an exhaustive guide on xda somewhere.
Thanks,
i installed my modified cm rom without wipe caches data or something.
And now i have my old datas back, with the new Background.
I'm currently using a wallpaper on my phone that was originally from a picture file that I manually copied onto the SD card and placed in a folder I specifically created for such background wallpapers. I don't want to lose the wallpaper, but as far as I can tell that file is no longer in the backgrounds folder, so I'm guessing that if I change the background or theme on my phone, it will disappear. Obviously, the file is somewhere on the phone since the background remains in use, but I can't find it.
So...can someone tell me how to determine the location of the file currently being used as the background wallpaper?
Thanks!
PS - I'm running CM10.1.3.

That app definitely brought up more graphic files than my previous ones, but I still wasn't able to find it. The good news is that I finally managed to locate the same background elsewhere on the Internet and re-downloaded it, so all is well. I'll keep playing with this app, though. Looks like it might come in handy. Thanks for your help!
Has anybody successfully been able to do anything with the /system/priv-app/NvCustomize/ app?
I have tried, but even moving the folder to a different place and putting it back without any modification renders it corrupt.
Any idea how to tackle this? I hate the ugly background. I had to disable this app to at least have the Google Leanback wallpaper. But since it's probably just a matter of changing the wallpaper image in the NvCustomize.apk file (which I found), it should be possible to replace it with any image you want.
Does anybody have a clue as to why it won't work?
EDIT: I got it to work. I had to set the read/write permissions to the appropriate 644 setting.
So for anyone trying to change their default wallpaper: Replace the nv_wallpaper.png from within the /system/priv-app/NvCustomize/NvCustomize.apk file to your desired wallpaper with the same name. (And maybe best to keep the same dimensions (1920x1080) for performance reasons.
If you use an file browser that can browse from within an apk, then you should only have to copy the new nv_wallpaper.png file inside the right folder in the apk. Permissions should stay intact. Overwrite the file of course.
If you first extract the apk to modify it on your pc or somewhere else, make sure you set permissions of the apk back to 644.

Sorry no, but a great source of information on the shield is...https://forums.geforce.com/default/board/159/shield-tv/
Hmm I tried replacing the wallpaper with WinRAR, 7Zip, and X-plore and all led to android saying the file appears to be corrupt. Permissions were changed back to 644 everytime. Has anyone succeeded in this and can confirm the above steps? Doesn't appear to work for me.
Believe it or not I'm looking for the original poly wallpaper. It's nowhere online. Even searched nv_wallpaper.png
