Hi all,
I just bought a bell atrix 4g and I have a quick question about the bootloader unlock using firmware 2.3.4
I have rooted my phone and installed rom manager. CWM has installed successfully but I have no access to it after restart. I realized that I have to unlock the boot loader.
I came to one problem. I went to the pudding post and tried to follow the instructions but at the point where it says:
RSDLite/Windows Drivers/Sbf_flash:
Prepare: If you're in windows land you will need to re-install drivers. Thanks for the link.
RSDLite 5.5 link
x64 Windows drivers
sbf_flash - the linux/mac sbf flasher
Guide for beginners provided by: goo.gl/vfUXc
Unlock:
Unlocker only SBFs - These small 1mb SBF files will get your phone ready to fasboot oem unlock. They are the files most people should use.
ATT ONLY - Unlocker for 1.8.3 and 4.5.91 ATT firmwares
Orange/Bell/Telestra/Latin America/International users ONLY - Download IHOP
I want to make sure that the IHOP download will work for 2.3.4 and is not for a lower version.
Also, on the instructions in the 'beginners guide', do I actually just skip and install fastboot or do I start at the beginning, Install the IHOP .sbf file and then install fastboot? essentially following the instructions from the beginning.
I know its not as easy as my acer liquid but I really enjoy modding and learning about the insides of my device .
Thank you ,
T
I have same question.
My Bell Atrix current is 2.2.2. Should I update to 2.3.4 then unlock bootloader?

I reviewed all the threads but can't resolve the information I need to plan next step!
I want to revert back to stock since I am experiencing battery drain (I believe).
I did not root or unlock before using the OTG (thumbdrive) method for insrtalling the OTA 4.5.91 zip.
After finding out that was ill advised I did not unlock and left unrooted. I have been out of town and can't backtrack throught the threads to determine what is the best course.
Is there a concise thread for my situation?
Thanks in advance
If you want to confirm your status, please adb, su, and "cat /sys/firmware/fuse/ReservedOdm" or just open the file in Root Explorer. If you see something like:
10000000000010001000300004000
Then you should NOT SBF anything from Motorola"
If you want to post your ReservedOdm to look and see if you will be fine to SBF 1.83 again
Probably you are safe if you actually installed Kenth by CDW or moto-fastboot (boot.img and system.img)
But if you actually run the update.zip or any update trought the normal android recovery screen and if you saw the following legend "updating AP20 bootloader" in that case you CAN NOT flash any SBF from Motorola

I am on KP's 4.5.91 beta 3...........When I look at this file I have :

Now KP's version of 4.5.91 is supposed to be safe to flash back and go ahead with Moto updates. If I follow what you are saying, it cannot be done?

ok here it is:
10000000000010001000100004000
4= BL "unlock" did you ever unlock you BL with pudding?
0= BL lock
10000000000010001000100004000
1=NO UPDATE BL TO AP20 Ver. , so you applied GB by moto-fastboot process or by CDW
3=YOU HAVE A NEW BL AP20 Ver., so you indeed applied GB OTA by Android Recovery from the sdcard
so in other words the ones we are in "confirmed" brick land if we RSD any MOTOROLA SBF are the ones with "3"
So you seem you indeed apply unlock bootloader (please confirm?) but you never applied GB OTA by Android Recover update.zip, and as you already confirm you applied GB Kenneth version by CDW or moto-fastboot.

Status
1. Locked and rooted phone
2. I ran 1.2.6 sbf with RSD to return to a stock build
3. I unrooted phone
4. I ran OTA 1.8.3
5. I ran the Motorola Build 4.5.91 "not KP's" with Motorola cable from update.zip through USB flash drive
6. "Stopped Here" this is my current state
Unfortunately I did not use KP's version, and I don't know how to check for blown fuses since I haven't rooted and did not flash pudding "stopped after flashing OTA for fear of bricking" . I believe I have read that some have installed pudding from my current state to with a recoverable softbrick and then used fast booted flashing img of 1.8.3.
can anybody verify doing this safely? Sorry if this thread is repetitive but there is much confusion in here and I was gone two days from the forum when this all was taking place.
Much appreciated.
JiminSD I recommend you to root first by preinstall method first so you can check first the "fuses" to make sure how to proceed. To do the root you DO NOT need to be "unlock". If you need help just tell and I can guide you for the root process

Yes, I unlocked with pudding following the instructions here ---> http://briefmobile.com/how-to-unlock-the-atrix-4g-bootloader, and yes I did flash KP's 4.5.91 and not the OTA.
Thanks for the clarification. Much appreciated!
So you are in the group of the lucky ones that actually can RSD "full" 1.83 or 1.57
The only thing you will lost the tag "unlocked" at the startup, so to get it back just RSD pudding again
I think you are asking this to return you phone to "stock" to be able to received the official OTA from moto/att right?

I am thinking about it, but I may let some other brave souls try first, as I believe it will cause the issues the current leaked OTA has caused. My phone runs great at the moment on KP's 4.5.91.
Prior to this, I flashed back a couple of times on 4.1.83 and did what you said to get "unlocked" back on my boot screen. I think everyone is more or less worried about what the actual release version of GB might do if you are unlocked already.
I am in same situation as OP. From private discussions and reading different threads it seems that I can go from stock 2.3.4 OTA (no mods) with a locked bootloader to anything if I just use the small unlock/pudding followed by fastboot unlock commands and fastboot install cwm....then fruitcakes or any rom should be good to go. But im waiting for GB to go fully public....just gonna enjoy 2.3.4 for now until everything is all sorted out.

Agree. I think the first things to do when the real OTA is out is actually compare with the leak one, so at least we have an idea how to proceed.
Good Luck!

Sorry but this is NOT TRUE:
"I can go from stock 2.3.4 OTA (no mods) with a locked bootloader to anything "
Anything in this case mean: NEED TO UNLOCK BL, NEED TO APPLIED ANY ROM BY CWM OR MOTO-FASTBOOT WAY
But here it is the CONs: UNTIL TODAY IF YOU APPLIED THE LEAK STOCK GB YOU CAN NOT RSD ANY MOTOROLA SBF, THAT MEAN INCLUDED GB SBF BECAUSE IS NOT OUT THERE YET, SO YOU NEVER WILL GET BACT TO "REAL" STOCK OR BE SURE 100% YOU CAN RECEIVED IN THE FUTURE ANY OTA DIRECTLY FROM MOTO/ATT IS NOT BEEN TESTED YET

Good clarification mrramirez.
My bad...should not have carelessly said "any". If ur on OTA 2.3.4 just stay put, and stay away from moto sbf
Sent from my MB860 using XDA Premium App
Thanks to all my question has been answered. I will stay put and not install any sbf's regardless of source until the new OTA is studied by developers.
Just trying to confirm order and capabilities of things before proceeding further. I've read through the entire Bootloader Unlock thread and couldn't find my answer.
I have an ATT Atrix which I have successfully run the Bootloader unlocker on.
Version wise:
System Vesion 4.1.26.MB860.ATT
Baseband 1.77.05P
Build: OLYFR_U4_1.2.6
I'd like to go to 2.3.4 but i'm a but confused, can I just use RSD and flash the Att2.3.4 Pudding file? or do I need to goto to the 1.8.3 preinstall file first?
Once at 2.3.4 Pudding Can I move up or down to various versions without worry of hard bricking?
Should i do the upgrades/recovery CWM?
Check the 2nd sticky in the General Forum, your answers are there.
Just moved from the xperia x1 scene where I felt like a pro with windows mobile, to the atrix/adroid deleopment scene and don't know anything anymore....
After some research I came up with these threads, but do not know which order I should read/follow. I will try to order them myself as best as possible. If I mess up, please fix me. Thanks.
My phones info (just bought it an hour ago from AT&T (America))

Noob tutorial to base all threads from
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1154600
First I need to unlock the bootloader to install unlocked SBF files
http://briefmobile.com/how-to-unlock-the-atrix-4g-bootloader
However, I don't have gingerbread (2.3) so I guess I will follow all the steps...
The noob guide then guides me to CWM stuff.
After the bootloader is unlocked, I need to install a CWM for recovery and Custom ROM installs. The NOOB guide recommends:
ROMRacer's CWM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1204500
OR
Tenfar's Updated Bootstrap CWM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1138541
However: THIS IS THE CONFUSING PART. The noob guide says I need---
"unlocked bootloader, be rooted and be on Android 2.3.4 (firmware version 4.5.91), before attempting to flash any CWM."
I think that the unlock guide just unlocks the bootloader...but that's it. I don't think it actually roots anything, and does not upgrade android to 2.3.4... All that second guide does was unlock the bootloader.
So now I look at these two threads....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1125944
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1136261
..and get confused.
I thought that SBF files were only for backup in case of brick....not for rooting
The noob guide also does not explain how to update android to 2.3.4
In total, I am stuck in the middle of the process. I unlocked the bootloader, but do not know how to root the device or update android to 2.3.4. I am so confused about those two threads...
I THINK I should do this,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1136261
seeing that the other thread is about firmware.
After I somehow root the device, I think I should then download the first thing from the firmware thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1125944
...which updates android?????
Then to the CWM??????
Then to Kernels/ROMS???
But that SBF thread is complicated on its own.....
Ugh...
So I think it goes:
Read this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1154600
Unlock the bootloader
http://briefmobile.com/how-to-unlock-the-atrix-4g-bootloader
Do something here...idk...there are many things to download.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1136261
Download the first firmeware there to update to android 2.3.4
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1125944
Then download one of the CWM's and install
then move onto kernals/ROMs
Anyone?????????????
You don't need root to flash a rom. After unlocking, put romracers cwm on. Copy the Rom you want to the SD card, and flash from cwm. You don't even have to boot into the os.
Sent from my MB860
Yeah, most of the ROMs also include Root for you. So, unlock boot loader, flash ROM Racers CWM Recovery and then flash a ROM. Sorry for any confusion on my part, ill look over my guide later and maybe clarify some parts.

Thanks swift
I have a problem, however.
I updated OTA to 4.5.91, and then used RSD 5.3.1 to unlock the bootloader using:
ATT ONLY - Unlocker for 1.8.3 and 4.5.91 ATT firmwares (Pudding).
I then get this error-
SVF: 105:1:2
Failed to boot 0x1000
No OS detected, going to RSD mode in 5 seconds
"The gives a list of avaiable modes."
Starting Fastboot protocol support
I updated my phone to the official gingerbread update, and installed the Window 7 drivers and latest RSD.
SO I then just continued with the fastbooting cmd's, and unlocked the phone.
When I fastboot rebooted the phone, it was stuck at the dual core screen with the word unlocked on top.
I pulled out the battery, and I dont know how to get into fastboot protocol mode to install a CWM, it only goes to RSD protocol.
What should I do?
I just found out that you hold down power and volume down to get into fastboot, and then volume up to get into protocal.
I will try to instal a CWM to see if it works using fastboot, and then a ROM. It told me that there was no OS before, so that make sense.
I am a little skeptical though because I have not rooted or updated to 2.3.4, liek your guide says, but I see no other way....
Ok about to get a atrix from att! So i need to understand some stuff. IVE SEARCHED
So if you unlock the bootloader you can never sbf back to i guess a froyo build using sbf?(1.83 is froyo i guessing) if you get the phone with GB build on it?
Reading the Automatic bootloader thread i see this on the OP Main Post:
* CONFIRMED, IS SAFE TO RSD THIS SPECIFIC SBF FROM MOTOROLA:
1FF-olympus-user-2.3.4-4.5.91-110625-release-keys-signed-ATT-US-GAS_NA_OLPSGBATTSPE_P011.sbf
MD5: 56721d893e43b814e95683a00b165555
SHA1: e00786e975b4f1d9fba2ff90c1ee6bbf95bb47b2
SO NOW ON FOR UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER USERS THIS CAN BE A BASE IF SOMETHING GO WRONG AND YOU NEED OUT OF THE BOX STATE FROM MOTOROLA
Need to be flash with RSDlite V5.3.1
Now lets say that the phone i get from att, will be on froyo. Do i need to:
go to system updates and install OTA GB build
Then follow the automatic bootloader thread?
Then i see this thread talking about something different on my searches?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1138204
Any clarification will be thanked!
Phone will most likely come with Gingerbread. If not, OTA update, then unlock bootloader. Once you unlock the bootloader, on gingerbread, do not try to flash a eariler sbf version. First of all there is no need. Secondly, you can brick your device by doing it. If you ever want to return to a stock Gingerbread ROM after unlocking bootloader, you can flash a fruitcake... but your bootloader would still be unlocked.

edit: well top one isnt right... i dont know wich of these is for ATT US version heh...theres a 2.3.6 but its for Bell ...
Here ya go. das8nt is a big help here on xda and on the atrixforums. http://www.das8nt.com/sbffiles.html Make sure you got the motorola drivers, read the guide a couple times before attempting if you haven't used RSDlite before. Don't downgrade, use the version SBF that your on now currently. Downgrading will result in a hard brick! If you're looking to unlock your bootloader you need the pudding file here Unlocker for 1.8.3 and 4.5.91 ATT firmwares. It worked for me when I unlocked on 2.3.4, should work on 2.3.6.

Got it! Thanks! Now for some reason adb shell isnt working like it was yesterday. Shrug* sigh ideas?
After you flashed the pudding, did you boot to fastboot and issue the 'fastboot oem unlock' command to unlock the bootloader as described here? Do you have root? what do you get when you type 'adb devices' ? You have usb debugging enabled while booted in android?
