Anyone else running into this error? Only a few of my sms are going through. I saw a thread on the evo 4g about it but the solution didn't work for me.

You need to get your msl as soon you have it go to the phone pad and enter this number ##72786# then is going to ask for a password enter the msl the press ok you're going to get 4 options you're going to hit menu the reset and just hit ok on every message...phone is going to turn off the back on by itself you going to get the handsfree activation just let it run after the updates are done test the messages

Cool thanks. The edit mode(##) or whatever they're called isn't working. I think it may have something to do with the ROM I'm running. Do you know where I can find a list of ## to try? When I try the ##72786# I'm not prompted for a password and it just goes back to recent calls list. Thanks!

The secret dialer codes, ##xxxxx## should be picked up by the EPST.apk file located in /system/app. This is generally a Sprint developed and placed apk file.
I don't know why a ROM developer would remove this file from a Sense based ROM as any device on the Sprint network would want/need this file.
If the EPST.apk file is present in /system/app, then the dialer codes should work. Hope that helps answer your question!

Easy there killa.... cyanogenmod doesn't work with ## codes, and I wouldn't exactly call them ignorant
As for the error code, if the problem is intermittent, it should remedy itself if about 5-10-15 minutes. It is a network issue and not a phone issue. I would advise to just off/battery pull/on (which is always good to do periodically anyway)
Resetting the phone beyond that should not be necessary to remedy your situation. But you always can resort to that - it just might not be your solution

This is a known issue with this Rom. Wes and Sac are working on it. I am running the same Rom and also having the same problem. Stay under 160 characters and you won't have a problem.

I am running the EnergyRom on my Evo and getting the same error. The under 160 characters thing does not apply. At times I'm trying to send less than 50 characters and get the same error. Last month this happened before I rooted and they reset something on the backend. All was well for like a week. Now its back again. I wish someone would figure this out. Being an east coast transplant on the west coast without being able to reach friends and family back home is getting quite bothersome.

Hey guys, I've been struggling with this for a while. I am on the 2.3.5 Electrify ROM, so it says that my carrier is U.S. Cellular.
I'm trying to change that so the text says "Sprint".
I have tried almost everything I can think of.
I did an ADB pull of the framework-res.apk, decompiled it, hex edited the eri.xml file (changed out the "U.S. Cellular" with "Sprint "), saved it, recompiled the APK, then pushed that to the phone.
Tried all of the carrier name changing .apks, but none of them work.
Any ideas?
Thanks a ton in advance.
i think your main problem is that you are on an electrify rom and not a photon rom
Yeah, that's the root of my problem.

i remeber reading some post a while back with same problem with no good outcome. Do you have insurence? they were saying that you would have to take it to sprint to get out of there. Hope it works out for you.
Read that thread. Someone posted an xml file that fixes it.

Here it is http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=22012299
You need to change the eri xml in the framework-res.apk with one modified to say sprint. Its possible to do right on the phone using an app like ninja morph if you have no knowledge of decompiling, editing, and recompiling apks.
EDIT - I've attached a deodexed framework-res.apk from 2.3.5 which has been modified and displayed "sprint" as the carrier on my phone.

The odex was likely the culprit. That apk also has the apn.xml in it that I took from a sprint build. I used the apn-conf from a sprint build in /system/etc, changed the build prop to use the sprint apn (310120), replaced /data/data/com.Motorola.telephony/db/carriers with the Sprint one and still no go on MMS receiving using the stock app. I have 2 theories to check in my down time but go sms works in a pinch for now.
Cheers!
P.S. if you flashed the electrify zips around check your custom recovery. Install-recovery wasn't removed and it will revert to stock recovery upon booting the first time. CWM can be applied same as before but unless you delete the file it will do the same every time you boot up.
Awesome man. I just tried to APN switch-a-roo (oddly enough before reading your post), and I can't get it to work with the stock app either. I went in the APN.xml file and change the "Carrier: Sprint" to Carrier: U.S.Cellular", and that didn't work either.
Nah trust me, everything from easy to moderate difficulty has been ruled out. I have 2 remaining ideas to test but it will need to wait until I get some free time.
If I figure it out I'll let you know and someone can package a flashable zip with my framework-res, a replacement build.prop, the apn-conf, and whatever else is necessary to get it working. I want nothing to do with owning it so the community will be responsible to package it and support each other but id call that a fair deal.
Again no promises, its contingent on my free time and my GF's tolerance of me on my phone

Been down this road before...
If you look at a logcat of when trying to retrieve a mms you will notice that the remote network (sprint) rejects the connection due to an unkown device.
Unless we can figure out how to change the phone so it does not idenify itself as 2.3.5 then I think we are out of luck.
Spent many days on this and decided it was not worth it.
RJR
Anyone with a 2.3.5 electrify build running on a Sprint photon can download the attached build.prop.txt, edit the name and remove the .txt part so it's only named build.prop, place it in /system. Once you have it in, reboot. It's a sprint-a-fied build.prop for 2.3.5.
Also attached the sprint bootanimation.zip. Just download that and place in /system/media . I know thats bothering someone out there.
For the real purists, while you're in media you might want to check out audio/ringtones and audio/notifications because USC added their own sound file in each you may consider deleting.
EDIT- Almost forgot, you need to set the permissions properly once you move the file(s). Both files should be rw-r--r--
I did both of those things already. Ha.
They actually were really bugging me.

Use my build.prop and after a reboot, please check if MMS receive works. The device fingerprint is changed to the sprint photon fingerprint. I can't test because I currently have one of my blackberries activated to test some other work.
Thanks.
EDIT- also I noticed you said you've been playing around in the apn xml. Please put it back to stock. My build.prop should set your operator as 310120 on boot. Or at least it should. You could check to make sure.

I searched all over that thread to find a fix and all I came up with was to install Android 4 ICS Messaging SMS over the Play Store. tried it. it came up with an error "Duplicate Provider Authority" Any help?
I also found out that there's no notification of messages on the lock screen nor does it chime/vibrate/notify when you receive a message from an unknown number

It's a general problem with the amaze on ICS, it's widespread, so don't expect a fix anytime soon.
It never happened on the stock ics with sense 3.6. If I knew how to do all of this stuff I would help. My best guess is that the answer is in the stock ics ROM. I have my stock backup if anyone needs it for study

Yeah I had stock ics for a while before I switched. I don't know how to flash the kernal though. Honestly if I knew how, I'd just put stock ics mms.apk in the.zip but I tried that already and it canceled the install. Don't know how to do that either

"Duplicate Provider Authority" means that you are trying to install something that the phone already has system flags dedicated for(this explanation could be a little better).. Speedrom already has the MMS app, use a root tool, titanium backup - something to remove mms.apk from the system/app folder, then you will be able to install the one in the market -- not that that is a sure fire fix.. but one thing at a time. Try that, that is the only reason you couldn't install.
Hello, I would like to have a thread for Wind Mobile customers in Canada using the HTC amaze.
Specifically at this point I would like to know what ROM everyone is using and do they have mms working.
I have only been able to get mms working on NRG's Aug 6 ROM.
I would love a more AOSP ROM but am stuck if I want mms.
(also I have noticed the apn recommendations for Wind do NOT look correct in the thread for apn's as it suggests 1 apn for both internet and mms)
Please join this thread and share any experiences you have and I hope this helps others besides myself.
Especially since I think our phone is still great and I don't know of any reason to switch or upgrade at this point.

To be honest I haven't tried in a long time and I did not try this morning when I was trying the Fourth Bar Infusion ROM.
I guess I have assumed that how I have the apn's on the NRG ROM is how they need to be as it works
However, I suppose it is possible that the apn's need to be different if the ROM is different or de-sensed.
Could this be?
Has anyone out there with Wind got mms to work on a ROM other than NRG's and if so, how did you do it.
May give it another try tonight if I have time.

Does anyone think that if I use the 1 apn for both internet and mms and it does NOT work on the NRG ROM it MAY work on a different ROM?
and or vice versa?
I'm not with wind, but I've had problems with certain roms not being able to send mms, but it was usually something screwy with the mms.apk. If I swapped it out for one that I had working from a different rom, I'd have no issues, but yeah, only one apn for both data and mms.
try swapping in an aosp mms.apk on your energy rom and see if it works. Extract it from fourth bar, or speed rom even. rename it to mms1 or whatever, that way you'll have both working to test back to back.

Do you mean that yes, you only 1 apn for internet and mms looks OK or it does NOT look OK?
I can try an AOSP mms apk and see if I can get it to work along with the original one in my NRG ROM.
I know I tried taking the mms apk from the NRG ROM and putting it on another ROM I tried and it would NOT work.
Thanks for ideas and I will continue to try things.
yeah, only one apn for both, they are set up so that anything mms related is set up through the one apn. The only time you'd need another is if you're swapping between sim card from a different carrier, for example I have a bell apn set up so if I want to swap in my work sim in my phone I'm ready to go with data and all.
What other roms have you tried? I've tried some and found mms to be an issue, esp. on some of the speed rom versions.

This mms.apk works for mms on my end, paste it in your current rom /system/app folder and if mms is working in your current rom mms.apk, then it should work for this one. If it does work, then copy your apn exactly as is in another rom, and paste this apk in the same folder, and it should work.

did you uninstall or remove the messaging app so you just had this one?
Hey I have team dirt's AOKP 3.5.2 flashed on to my phone. Whenever I receive an MMS, it just says downloading in my stock messenger application.
I downloaded gosms and they ended up coming in. Uninstalled gosms, same problem, redownloaded gosms and then I was able to download them.
Any ideas? I could just stick with gosms but i prefer the stock messaging app.
You need to change the apns to your carriers.

Sprint Apns
Does anyone know the correct APN setup for Sprint? I have looked all over, on this site and others, and nothing I have tried works.
I feel like I've done everything right, and followed many of Ramjet's guides, but am at a loss with this mms issue.
I'm running the latest version of cmb's PACMAN, and no matter what I do I cannot send/receive mms' without installing Go Sms. I've done clean, fresh installs, and nothing seems to work. Sometimes I can send/receive after a reboot, but it is very finicky and frustrating not being able to use the stock app...and I can't seem to let it go
Thanks to all the devs/contributors/members of this site for all the hard work put in so I can get the most out of my phone. Any help would be much appreciated.

If you downloaded the Sprint version, you shouldn't need to change the APNs. You may need to flash a sense rom to update profile/PRL. PRL changed the other day and it seems to go hand in hand with needing to update profile for mms.

I am at a complete loss here, because I don't see other people reporting the same thing, and I feel like I've had this problem since I started flashing 4.1/4.2 roms.
Is there anything else I could try? Why exactly does Go Sms work, but not the stock app? At work now, but will try another 4.2 rom and see if I get same results, just hate to leave pacman with all the options and its so smooth.

I believe go, chomp, and handcent all go through their own servers. I could be wrong though. I always use handcent because I hate having to type names in stock app. Much easier with check boxes. Other than maybe the settings in the messaging app for mms, I'm at a loss. I'd blame it on towers, but if it's only jellybean roms that can't be true.

I tried all I knew to try before posting and have been at this for over a week. I have the straight talk s3 and its compatible with Verizon aosp ROMs and CWM and with that said, I have working MMS on all jb ROMs but when I flash a KitKat ROM it no longer works.
Things I have tried...
Taken the apn-conf.XML from the stock TW and replacing the kk conf.xml.
Taken the a conf.XML from the working jb also ROM and replacing the km one.
Tried the app APN backup and restore with no luck. And there is no way to manually enter the APN on the ST s3. Im stumped as it works fine with 4.3.. So I. Sure there is a fix I'm overlooking or don't know enough to fix. Thanks in advance.
Have you tried another SMS app that supports adding your own MMS settings? That's a common way to fix issues like this when flashing to another CDMA service or using roms for another phone...

Thanks for the reply.. yeah.. I have been using handcent but would really like to fix it to where I could use the stock messaging app and maybe hangouts. I'm new to this but I think the 3rd party app is fixing the problem I should be able to go in with a file browser and correct it, right? I still have a copy of the stock rom if there is a file I need from it and also aosp 4.3 roms the mms works if there is a file I could use from there. Anyway, thanks for taking the time to answer my question.
This rom has an APN Config feature: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2598410
Maybe you should see how they implement that to see if you can port it to the rom you are using.

Thanks.. Well I gave it a shot and the phone will not take or save any APN that you put in it. I'm guessing its a straight talk thing. But the thing is, I can flash AOKP jb 4.3 and the stock MMS app works fine. So that let's me know it can be done, I just don't know how. Lol
Nah, it's not anything specific to Straight Talk. I would try something like this next:

I've had to use that trick on some phones before at my shop.

Did you move the APN app into /system/app and reboot before you tried that?

That's was my fault.. Forgot to move to priv app.. However I did get it to restore and I rebooted and tried to send a pic and still stuck at sending. I was for sure that would have fixed it.
***** OK, I tried it several times with no luck. I even deleted the APN and lost signal for a few seconds and it picked back up after a few seconds. There has to be some settings else where in there..?? Than I turned around and installed a SMS app and entered the APN and was able to send a MMS. I'm stumped.
