This is a running list of apps won't install from the Android Market on the CM7 Alpha build for whatever reason. They should work on phones or tablets, but Android Market says the TouchPad/CM7 Alpha isn't compatible:

There's a fix released on the cmtouchpad google code page, but basically it's because the app has a flag that detects dpi and/or devices. so if it doesn't match up, it doesn't show up.
You can install Facebook and other apps with the APK file. For example, I ran titanium backup and copied the folder to my computer. I then decompressed the gz file containing the apk, copied it to my touchpad and used appinstaller to install it.
Adfree installs but cant edit the hosts file cause it cant mount rw the system partition, same for the Es file manager. Seems like the mount command isnt working

Order & Chaos works. I installed it from the Market and when it opened, it said my device wasn't compatible. So, I changed my build.prop to read Driod X and Motorola wherever HP or Touchpad was (backed it up first). Then I rebooted.
Once I opened it after reboot, it downloaded all 600MB of data and I logged in. It runs pretty good, but there is a little stutter here-and-there.

Install Fake GPS from Market and set a location. Then use Facebook and it should work. It did for me. Found this fix on another thread here somewhere.
Now does anybody have any suggestions as to why the XDA app won't work properly for me? I can view threads, but once I log in and try to view a thread, it force closes.
Ah... ty.. I went back and instead of switching it in settings I opened something to type and selected choose input method and it worked ty

dolphin browser works. get it from amazon.
Facebook 1.7.2 (installed from .apk) gave me the force closes, apparently it relies on a functional GPS. However, Facebook 1.6.4 worked for me right away; no need to spoof a GPS.

I have the wifi version of the Galaxy Tab 10.1. I found an apk for the Google Videos app, as it is not yet available in the market for this tablet. This apk installs and runs "normally" on my HTC G2. The app will install on the Galaxy 10.1 but force quits whenever I try to run it. I read in another topic here that the LTE version of this tablet comes with the Google Videos app, so I am assuming it works there. Has anyone gotten the Google Videos app to work on the Wifi version of this tablet?
My guess is the model number is not setup in the Android Market. As you will notice we have the "Books" app and can see and search on books in the Android Market. Your Movies app is probably force closing because when it tries to load the initial screen, the Android market cant match the device model the tablet app sends. It sends this to retrieve content compatible with the app and device.

Thanks for the file. I must have had an old sol. The file sizes were different, but the one I first got works on my G2. All set now thanks
I received my Nook Tablet for Christmas, and of course the first thing I do is root it (using Nook&Zergy). Now that I have access to the market, I ask myself"wheres all the apps?" I assume that it was the Android market filter hiding incompatible apps. So later on I try to side load and get errors. So now I just want to know how to get apps to work? I also blocked OTA's.
[In a nutshell]
What I know:
-Nook runs tweaked Gingerbread
-Honeycomb app I try to install get a parseing error when I try to install(most likely do to api's)
-Market has limited app selection.
What I want to know:
- Is it possible to get Honey comb apps to run(for example adobe touch apps, sketchbook pro hd ect...)
-Why is the android market selection so limited
-What is a parsing error?
- If you have any more advice feel free to share
Thank you!
I'm having same issue
Im having the same problem. Google maps, Evernote, Facebook all do not show up in market. When I use the browser to access the market it says these apps are incompatible. Also words with friends installs and opens but doesn't show properly, the chat window overlaps the game board so you can't see it. Is this a dpi issue? I've seen other posts that maybe dpi needs to be changed to 160. If so, How is this done?

Gingerbread can't run honeycomb apps. I have evernote and some other apps I have found through other sites, however i have not got facebook to run yet.
The apps are limited because of the fingerprint of the device, but people have spoofed the build.prop file to gain access to more of the market. See other threads.
I have facebook and twitter running on my rooted nook right now. I took the apks from my phone backups and put them in dropbox, downloaded and installed. (That was actually before I rooted) but they are working fine and the widgets work on the homescreens. I did that with all of the apps I wanted from my phone.
If this helps, I created a tutorial on how to download apps not showing up in the Marketplace.

Today I discovered how to bypass this. I guess its a glitch or whatever... just clear defaults for market. Look for the app on Google for the market link. Follow it using market to make sure its the one. Go back to Google. This time follow it using browser.(before this make sure your not signed in on market.android.com) and click install. It will pop up asking you to sign in. Click sign in. Then it will ask again to use browser or market. This time hit market and it will be at accept & download... just tap that and it will start downloading...
I am running kushdecks ics. Not sure if it has anything to do...
Also don't try on non free apps.
Just found it curious I guess.

what are you talking about? installing apks away from the market from your sd card?
no. you know how sometimes you get links to the market and when you go to the market on the phone it says that your device isn't compatible? well that.
just open the link using your browser on the phone. then hit install it'll ask to sign in. when you press the sign in button. it asks you to either use the browser or the market app. hit market and just download...
Blah, they must have fixed it. Grrrrrrrr.....I want two games from there sale! >_<
Its only for free apps or games... if it has a price it gives an error

Try this: (note: only works on rooted phones)
Download this app https://market.android.com/details?id=com.wemobs.android.lcdresolution (free from the market) & reset your screen resolution back to stock.
Next, Force Stop Market & then Clear Data in Menu>Settings>Applications>Manage Applications.
Reopen Market, accept the TOS, & try to get your app!
I had this same problem & this fixed it for me. Seems the market checks your device's screen resolution to see if the app is compatible @ that resolution or not & if it's not supported by the app, you get the "Your device is not compatible" message.
Hope this helps.

thanks, Im a bit of a noobie
where is the build.prop and what exactly should I change it to? I want to install 3D apps so I should change to xxx3D?
I just noticed I cant even install a plain notepad app from MArket "Your device isnt..." Is that because of the QHD resolution..? Also screenshot app got "Your device isnt..."
This android market is a pain in the but...almost as restrictive as iphone market place...
EDIT: I found build.prop and changed ro.product.model=LG P920 Optimus 3D but still ""Your device isnt..." message.
What else should I change...?
It worked for me
Thank you

Hi all, just a quick report on this issue- using CM7 copes, android 2.3.2 booted from SD card on hd2 dual boot with WP7 in nand.
I was having the incompatible issue fairly often, so I installed "LCD Resolution (Root)" free download from the Market (it allowed me to install that one) but I think you have to donate $.99 for it to work. Then, in this order, force close Market (if running), delete the data, then launched LCD Resolution and reset my resolution from 180 default to 160, hit apply but did not check always boot into this (an option), then the app rebooted the phone. After the reboot I checked the resolution- it was at 160- opened Market, accepted terms, searched for the app I wanted and was able to install it without a problem.

I just read a review of the LCD Resolution app and the reviewer said the app was saying all market apps were incompatible until he reverted to the default settings for the display
same problem on lizi y4 (gooapple v5)
I also have so many problems with "device isn't compatible with this version" in google play. I have a Lizi Y4, which is same model as Gooapple V5.
I tried installing lcdresolution, but cannot, as device isn't compatible .
What are the checks that google play makes? Is it indeed giving me this message due to density, or does it do other checks too?
Regards, JK.
Note: Root access is required in order for this to work.
Since I've found a workaround to install apps not showing up in the marketplace and haven't seen anyone address the issue other than rewriting system files, I thought I'd post this for people who (like me) don't know how to use the first method.
1) search for the app you want on Google in your browser, ie "xxx android"
2) click on the result leading to the Marketplace website (IMPORTANT: be sure to open the link with your browser and not the Market!)
3) click the "Install" button
4) you will be prompted to login, enter your info (you should only have to do this once)
5) this time, choose to open with Market when prompted
6) click the "Install" button and your app will download!
Hope this helps anyone

When I try this method, the search finds the program I'm looking for but as soon as I log in and open with "Market", not the browser, it replies with "Program not found". So I guess it doesn't work for me.
Thanks for the suggestion, anyway.

Oh, well then... I feel stupid? Edit: I didn't see it when I tried searching for it in the Market app.
Just tried it with Google Maps and no dice.
Ok, I tried AVG Mobilation Anti-Virus Pro, and it came back with something like "Sorry but you can't download because you haven't paid for it" and then I got the good old "! Your device isn't compatible with this item".

I don't understand how this can work - if apps aren't showing up in the Market on your tablet, surely that's because Market thinks they're not compatible with your NT. And if that's the case, when you sign into your account in the browser, the same thing would happen of not letting you send the app to devices it doesn't think are compatible?
In browser, the Market doesn't even list my NT as one of my devices, even though I'm signed into the Market app on my NT. Any thoughts on this?
I've had this method work twice and fail a couple times. At step 5 when it opens up the market the app still shows as incompatible but it downloads it anyway.
Torrential91, can you give me an example of an app that this worked correctly for you?
rodorr
I just had it work for Real Racing 2 free version.
I tried it with facebook, but there was no download option, just a note saying it was not compatible with my device.
This method was successful in getting to the app page where i could not before.
I tried "Real Racing 2" and it did indeed work for me. It gave me the message "Your device isn't compatible with this item" but it went ahead and downloaded it anyway. So it does work with some items. Maybe it just doesn't work if there is a cost associated with the item.
rodorr
I know Google maps worked for me. I believe Tumblr also worked this way.
Seems like this method is hit or miss. Can't really say why =/ I'm not a dev in any way, just a guy that experiments with trial and error haha.
Maybe a dev can chime in on this?

DAE have most apps report they are incompatible with their gtab? Its liike the ics beta doesn't have the so called market fix?!?!
No problems here. Google Play updated just fine, and most apps I am looking for show up with the default settings.
With the ICS Beta 1.0, you can go into ROM Control and change the footprint to be seen as different tablets, such as the Xoom and Transformer.
Make sure to Force Stop the Market (Play Store) app and clear data (also check to see if Market Updater needs to be force closed). You may also have to force stop Google Framework and clear its data as well.
If you change footprints, you have to clear market data so it will load the new footprint.
Try upgrading to the latest gapps package TeamDRH released. It has google play built in.
This worked thanks!

Select the widgets tab from your app drawer then drag and drop.
Loving this ROM, it installed with no issues. Multitouch gestures are not working at all for me (which would be fine if I didn't have apps that seem to require it).
Has anyone found a successful way to get rid of the status bar at the bottom?
I have looked at other threads, it seems some ROMs have this built in. The auto-hide option in settings didn't work, and I tried the Gesture Control app with no luck either (maybe because multitouch isn't working for me).
