I have has so many screen lockups with my X2 (screen is unresponsive but the physical buttons work), then it comes back with in 1 min or so. I SBF'd the new GB build and left it COMPLETE stock Rooted. NO bloat removed or anything. took out my 8 gig SD card and used Internal memory.
my X2 ran so freaking nice yesterday. fast, responsive, NO freezes and i used it allot all day. This morning, after charging, i rebooted, then when i got to work, i reinserted my 8 gig class4 SD card (i also used a 32gig card and got freezes as well) and within 15 min BOOM i got my first lock up surfing.
i am conviniced that it eaither has to do with the SD card slot itslef, or maybe the X2 does NOT like certian "class" cards?
i would love to see any of you who are getting lockups with screen unresponsive issues to try this and see if you get the same results? i was also getting freezes and lockups with ecliplse ROM when i ran a custom rom.
thoughts???
Interesting thoughts. I'm running a Lexar 16 GB class 6 card with no issues.
My phone doesn't lock up per se. What it does do sometimes is while surfing, the lock screen flashes and goes right back. Every once in a while I actually have to slide to unlock. Is this what you're talking about? Happens stock and rooted. I do use app called no lock and figured thats the problem.
it jsut seems way to strange that it ran perfect all day, the last time i used it with the SD card it was freezing all the time...
seems VERY fishy

nope. the screen just hangs there...forzen on what ever you were doing last. the only thing that works, is the physical buttons on it...then it comes back

yep, but it does not only happen when im surfing.....
I have a patriot LX 32GB class 10 micro sdhc card and I haven't had any of these problems while surfing stock or my main browser opera.
Although my X2 did kill my old Lexar 32GB class 10 microSD card upon a low battery shutdown.
killed it? really? what happend? it just fried?
it is just so strange that not one lock up then as soon as i inserted it within 15 min lock up....
if this issue would get resolved i would honestly keep this phone..but if it keeps happening, i might move to the bionic
My X1 killed an SD card too, that is how I got my X2... Verizon caught an earful. I can't remember for the life of me what brand of SD card it was, but I got it with my Storm 2 in 2009 when I came back to the US.
I have never had any issues with my x2 locking up, stock or otherwise.

After the shutdown hooked up to charger and SD card would not mount.... at all. Took out and tried it on all 6 of my computers (Windows, Linux, Mac) all tried to mount the card... nothing.
IMO 32gb micro-SDHC cards just aren't as reliable as their big brothers. Just recently I was going nuts trying to figure out why Titanium Backup was freezing up -- guess what, bad SD card. Had a 32gb Class 10 card that worked fine since about Easter in the phone, and SDFormatter took 3 hours to "reformat" it. I decided to toss it and went back to a 16gb Class 10. So far, not a single hiccup.

I think you are on the right track; although I believe it also depends on the brand of the card. Almost everything I buy memory wise is Patriot and I am very happy with them. I only bought the Lexar card because at the time it's the only class 10 microSD that my local computer store had.

Uh, okay, if you say so. But I've had three 32gb micro-sdhc cards go bad on me since they became available ... one was a Wintec, the other two, including this latest one, were Patriot.
Just sayin' ...

Nah, I said on the other page it was the one that came with my Storm 2. They didn't give me a new SD card when I upgraded last October. So I used it in my X1 and that is how I got my X2. I am a very influential individual when it comes to Verizon. Almost every phone upgrade on all 4 of my lines have been free in one way, shape, or form Me, paid for Storm 1, got 2 free, paid for X1, free to X2. My mom Eris to Inc 2 for free, my brother OG Droid to X1 AND X2 free. I don't ever settle for the bare replacement.

Let me start out by saying that I have searched for any threads that have covered this, and have come up empty.
This has happened twice to me in the last two months. Running task650's V.9, which is an awesome ROM. I've got a Lexar Class 10 32gb card. Twice in two months have I booted up and the media scanner would show a broken sd card notice. I tried booting the phone without the card, and then re-installed the card. Same notice of bad sd card on boot.
At this point I took the card and stuck it in a laptop, which generated a "can not open due to corrupt or unreadable file" and "reformat drive" or something like that. I was forced to format, losing photos, vids, and TiBu folder. I synced to Dropbox and got the backup folder re-installed.
Any ideas about what could have corrupted the card? I suppose the card could be damaged. I paid good bucks, as it is not a low end card. Replace the card? Any guidance would be appreciated.
I have a Lexar Class 10 32GB card. Same issue, after first time reformatted and same thing happened a week or two later.
I did an RMA with Lexar, think there is a 1 year warranty. Got a new card, been working fine the past several months.
Ok. Thanks for the input. I've got a Kingston Class 10 on the way.
I was hoping it wasn't in the phone hardware.
Thanks, I just reminded myself to do a backup of that card itself to my PC.
Sorry to hear about your problem though.

Yeah, I lost some New Years day photos and vids with my wife. I'll NEVER find her in that good of a mood again!
It makes me wonder about my decision to place my TiBu folder on the external card, along with Nandroid backups. True, it syncs to Drop Box for TiBu but do I need the extra headache of wondering if my card is going to get smoked again? I suppose I should be backing it all up to pc..
I'm not sure but it seems to be a problem with the phone and class 10 cards.
My first one was a 16gb class 10 micro sd that one day just decided to stop working (lasted a month or so). Couldn't access it via the phone or PC.
So I went out and got a 32gb class 10 and after a month or so again it stopped working
Knowing this I refused to buy a class 10 card again. I went to Walmart and got the cheapest 32gb micro sd (Sandisk class 4) and so far so good. no problems at all
Lost everything I had too on the first 2 cards so learned the hard way to do backups to my PC.
Not the class, it's probably the brand. Some brands have terrible quality control, especially if you go for a cheaper one. I have one from Amazon Basic and it works just fine. My brother uses one from SanDisk with zero problem.
Class 10 is also newer. The technology to manufacture these is not that old. I suspect some manufacturers still need to refine their process.

Got a similar problem here.
Transcend Class 10 32GB Card
Works in PC, HTC Desire - no probs.
Put in Galaxy S2, it starts Media Scanning, a few seconds later reports SD Card Damaged, requires formatting.
It's right - take it back out (again, umpteenth time!), put it in PC or HTC - card is "damaged". (Nothing permanent, can reformat.)
Samsung support claim to not know anything - mind you they "play dumb" about the camera "pink spot" issue, until you challenge them to get real...
Oh, dear!

Sounds like a brand issue, but have you ever tried checking the drive for errors?
Given that even your PC gives you a "damaged" message, it may not work. Once inserted, go to "My Computer," get to properties, and check for errors (enable the "automatically fix file system errors" option). In the past, this has corrected "corrupted" SD cards for me.

The only corruptions I have experienced on this phone were when using MTP to transfer files from the PC. Since I stopped using MTP and use only USB Storage mounting, I have not had any more problems.
I've actually experienced this twice. Both times flashing to AOKP. I'm not blaming AOKP but just saying. The first time even my PC wouldn't read it and it needed to be reformatted. The second time my pc could read it and after nandroiding back to shostock2 it was fine.

Please note I have no custom kernel or ICS, my phone is stock.
I bought a SanDisk Mobile Ultra 64GB microSDXC Class 6 back in April. The card installed fine and everything was great until last week when I turned off the phone which I have always done with my phones every other day just to let it reset everything. The phone kept looping and would get an error msg saying adroid process kept failing. I tried turing it off and on agaid several times same effect. Finally after waiting about 5 minutes and turning it on again it came on and worked. Well the damn thing did it again this morning after freezing up on installing a game last night. It kept looping and looping. Screen unresponsive everytime and would not get a data connection. Only thing custom I had on this phone is widget locker. I tried unistalling that one time when it let me access before it looped again and that didn't work. So I decided to try taking out my card. Well that did it and the phone is working fine now. Has anyone else had this issue? It is a problem it seems when the phone trys to scan the Micro sd card that this starts. Any sugestions would be greatly appreciated.
Sounds like your card went bad. I had the same thing happen to me a few months ago. Just had to buy a new one and rma the bad one.

Would my computer still be able to read and write to the card if it was the card that was bad? I was able to pull and delete my photo's off the card when I stuck it in my PC's Micro SD slot. I am totally new with Android. I have always had Iphones.
Some times yes your computer can still read it but for a short time. Don't think a computer is as picky as your phone. Took them almost 4 weeks to send me a new card. I had already bought a new one. So got a backup.

So I am having a problem where my Sandisk 32GB MicroSD card is getting dismounted from the phone. It gives me an error message like "SD card has been removed. Please use the Safely Eject SD card option to prevent data loss" or something like that. Then, it finds the card and runs the media scan, which renders my card useless for that time period. The screen also turns on for a minute or so during this time. Then it stays mounted for maybe up until 5 minutes before starting over again.
This absolutely rapes my battery, taking it from a full charge to dead battery in less than two hours. I thought maybe the SD card was going bad even though it's fairly new, so I took it out and tried it on my old Motorola smartphone, and it works fine and never dismounts. So I thought perhaps it's something with my phone, so I tried an older 8GB micro SD, and it works fine without dismounting at all.
Some info. Phone is running stock 4.0.4 with root and unlocked bootloader. The 32GB SD card worked fine for maybe 3 months until this problem suddenly started. Any ideas?

I went through four RMA replacement 64gb class 10 SanDisk cards, ate the $90 loss and spent $80 on the Samsung equivalent. It's faster and I have had zero problems with it. However, I used SanDisk cards for nearly a decade before those without any problems.
The SanDisk hi capacity cards seem to not work well in the lgog. They worked fine in my card readers, just not the lgog slot.

I have the 16 gb s4 and its great an all that we have a micro sd slot but I have found the whole concept unreliable at best. For one I have had 2 different sd cards fail. One gskill 32gb class 10 and a samsung 64 gb fail. All my pictures, roms and app gone. I back them up but still not being able to trust them is a huge concern. And the 64 gb seemed like a great idea except you have to format it fat32 to get recovery to view it, and when I did that my phone constantly wanted to format it back exfat. I pretty much have no option to get a 32 gig with a mdk rom either. Just my rant as I figure out how to rma both of these cards.

Sounds like you've just had some bad luck. I've been using a 64gb Class 10 SanDisk formatted for exFat and it's worked fine so far (I even use Folder Mount to move a bunch of stuff from internal to external).
Surprised the Samsung card failed on you.
Btw, the exfat/64gb issue only exits for some implementations. I'm running Barebones ME7 rom w/ktoonsez kernel and Phils/CWM recovery and both the recovery and the kernel support 64gb exFat.

I've never had any SD card fail me. Never heard of gskill and there is the possibility that the samsung sd card you got was a fake...depending on where you got it. I've used PNY, Samsung, and SanDisk sd cards and all have lasted me a long time through heavy usage.
I have a 64 gig sd card and never had an issue. I use it all the time.
first thing I did was wipe and format it in twrp recovery to whatever format it wanted.

Two cards failing? Unbelievable bad luck (I have never had a storage device of any type fail...not even platter hard drives...and I'm 43 and have had my own pc of some sort for 25 years), a bad card reader in the phone, or operator error.

I had an almost identical issue a while back. I used to always use a Sandisk 32gb class 10 card in my S3 and other devices. I used the same card for 3 or 4 years. When I got my S4 I decided to make the jump to a 64 gb card due to the small internal storage. So I went out and bought a 64 gb Class 10 Sandisk since I have always had good experiences with their cards. First thing I popped it into my computer and re-formatted it to Fat32. Then I plugged it into my phone and it seemed to work fine for a while, then randomly it would unmount itself and remount for no apparent reason. It would do it randomly 3 or 4 times a day. I tried wiping and reformatting to fat32 again, tried exfat, and even NTFS. Failing all that I took it back and exchanged it for another identical one. Same EXACT issue... So I gave it one last shot and exchanged one more time. At this point the ladies at Wal-mart are looking at me sideways like I'm running a scam or something. Lol. Anyways, the third one worked spectatularly. I haven't had one single unmount with it and I have all the storage I could possible need. I keep two Nandroid backups on my memory at all times (and with the S4 they are HUGE, 4gbs or better) and I have like 15 gbs of music, not to mention other miscellaneous files and apks and such, and I still have 30 gbs left.
I say just try it again man. Third times a charm. And I personally would always recommend Sandisk. I have never had one fail me and lost my data or anything. They have always worked for me.

Did you format back to Fat32 on your third try? I am going through the same thing and I am on my second card, waiting for the third to come in the mail. The first one I did Fat32 and out of the blue it would get extremely hot, and then say safe to remove card without me doing anything.
The second one, I left as is, copied everything over and left it exFat. That lasted about a week and then stuff started disappearing in gallery view, BUT it was there in Root explorer. The card it a Sandisk 64 gb Mobile Ultra.

Did you format back to Fat32 on your third try? I am going through the same thing and I am on my second card, waiting for the third to come in the mail. The first one I did Fat32 and out of the blue it would get extremely hot, and then say safe to remove card without me doing anything.

Yeah mine was the same issue, only I didn't notice any heat to speak of. And yes on the first card I got, I used a windows program called fat32format and formatted it before ever even putting it in my phone. It would intermittently unmount and remount exactly as you are describing. So I took it out, wiped and reformatted to fat32 again. Still did the same thing. So as a last ditch I tried formatting to exfat. My phone and recovery both read the card just fine, it would just unmount randomly, or when I was either listening to music or viewing my gallery (something that required high read speeds) and it would unmount and interrupt it. So, thinkiing that it was just a faulty card I exchanged for a identical new one. Same issue. This time I used a different program to reformat to fat32, I forget the name of it, but it was a command line based reformatting tool for windows. I used it and had that same problem even after several reformats. At this point I was starting to wonder if it was a problem with my phone's SD card slot., So as a last effort I did one more exhange, reformatted using the command line tool and haven't had one single unmount since then, and I have ALOT of stuff on it. I would just suggest keep trying. I think that Galaxy phones are just sensitive to card reading and if you don't have an absolutely perfect one it will have problems. Or who knows, maybe I just had that off chance of one in a million by getting two bad cards in a row. Either way, I would suggest reading this thread (if you haven't already): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1773735
Use the first method on your new card. That I think is the most foolproof formatting method. Good luck, you will find the right card eventually.
Thank you!! Ill give it a shot tomorrow when the new card arrives. I appreciate that thread reference too! Fingers are crossed.

Yeah no problem. Good luck
There may be a pattern....
But I am not sure exactly what it is.
I have two nearly identical SG4s (1 for + 1 for my wife) and both have the 64GB SanDisk Micro Ultra. One phone is completely stock (my wife's) and the card is lightly used and formatted exFat. Mine is rooted and Roomed (Synergy) with TiBkup and CWM. Like other folks, I had to reformat the card to Fat32 in order to work with CWM.
As far as I can tell, she never sees any un-mount/re-mount messages on her phone but it is lightly used and she might not notice. I DO see occasional un-mount/re-mount messages, but I cannot tie it to a specific program or event. Sometimes happens right after reboot. Sometimes happens when I launch TiBkup. But goes for days with no issues.
I have never lost any data or noticed any performance hits, but now I am worried that I might.
Guess it is time to take more backups of the backups...
I have had lots of computer equipment fail over the years, but never exactly like this...
Well I followed everything nicholi2789 suggested and low and behold my card is actually working good. It does not get hot when reading ( not as hot as the other 2 anyway) and I can see a big time difference in speed. So I guess its true, the third times a charm in the case of these 64 gb Sandisk Ultra cards.
Big thanks again to nicholi2789 for pointing me in the right direction!
I bought a SanDisk Microsdxc class 10 64gb and let the phone format. It's working great. It has the fastest speeds out of all I've seen.
It's a SanDisk Ultra 64 GB MicroSDXC Class 10 UHS-1 Memory Card with Adapter (SDSDQU-064G-AFFP-A)
At Amazon.

Glad you figured it out man. I didn't really do anything except to say keep trying. Lol. Good deal though.
Randomly when I use either the stock camera app, or stock gallery, the SDCard will randomly disconnect itself and take about 5-15 minutes to come back up. Does anyone know a fix for this? I am using a sandisk 16GB card.
I have tried doing a FDR with wiping davlic and system cache with the same results, I have even tried re-installing the ROM on the phone with the same results.
Your card is going bad. Happened to my sanddisk as well. Back it up and reformat. Might help for a bit. It did with my wife's.

The problem is only in gallery and camera. I can view files on the card even in the same directory with any other app with no problems. I called sandisk already they said it is a software issue that I need to contact Samsung about it.

My card failed after one month and my wife's same sandisk class 10 failed after 2 months. It has been covered in the threads over and over. Sandisk had a known bad batch of cards. Mine would not work in phone but would in PC so I was able to back up. My wife was not so lucky and lost everything.

I bought mine at radio shack. When I took them back they were even familiar with the problem at radio shack.

I bought mine at Wal*Mart, the one near me gives people a huge hassle on returning or exchanging electronics.
