Everytime I flash a new ROM I lose voice and data?? - HTC EVO 3D

Like the title says, everytime I flash a new one, or if I flash ziggy kernel especially I cannot get voice calls or data, i get radio interface shortage errors when texting ect, i have to do the ##3282# reset about 5 times to get anywhere, any theories or suggestions? I haven't seen anyone else with this problem and it started when I flashed xron ROM a few nights back..

Are you a google voice user? Are you gsm or cdma?

I only use google voice for voicemail, its Sprint CDMA

Did you update your radios AND firmware? I think the file was radio firmware nohboot or something like that?

It doesn't happen to me EVERY time, but I find myself having to go through the whole reprovisioning and re-setting data thing a lot more than I would prefer to. Hell, I've had 6 of these handsets since release date and I've had to **** around with this issue right out of the box on EVERY one! Love the phone but cmon HTC....wtf!! They really screwed the pooch on this phone, lol.

My problems are usually data problems. As far as losing voice, that happened once after using one of the older "superwipe" files floating around. Took a whole Saturday to get it back, had to get Sprint involved...boy was I pissed! Been using XRON superwipe lately and it's doing the trick!

Try ##scrtn# from dialer then enter your msl. After it reboots let us know if that works.

Still didn't help, when I go to more info on the radio interface shortage error the error code is 67,wasn't that the code a lot of people were getting after revolutionary first came out?

Call sprint and have them reset on their end....and good luck

I might have to do this, for some reason this actually happens after every single reboot, had to clarify that.

This happened to me too, even with those resets you are talking about I wasn't able to fix it. You have to call sprint, they do something on their end, guide you through the same process you are talking about, and then it works. Dial 611, tell them the error and any error code you have. Apparently they are familiar with it because they know exactly what you are facing and know how to fix it without doing any research or any other diagnostic steps.

I don't think this problem has anything to do with HTC, or the phone itself. I think it has to do with Sprints Google Voice integration. I use GV for voicemail only and I have this problem every once in s while. Next time it happens, try making the call using GV. If it works you know this is your problem. For some reason, even though you have it set up differently, GV will take over. This is a completely separate issue from the error 16 that a lot of people are getting with this phone. If it is an error 16 a simple call to Sprint will fix it. If it is the GV integration thing, then it is much harder to fix and rebooting to recovery, wiping cache and dalvik will sometimes fix the problem. Also, reflashing the kernel will sometimes fix it too. I haven't figured out a definite way to fix it yet though. It seems every time this happens, it takes something different to fix it.

I'm actually not even setup to make calls on google voice, I went directly onto the voice. Google. Com website and changed the settings to voicemail only and turned off all other integration.. Can it still be interfering?

Yes. Mine is set up the same way and when this happens if I choose to ask me every time I make a call in the GV app settings and choose GV to make the call it goes through, but when I chose do not use GV it won't work. I get a message that says, "I'm sorry, we are unable to complete your call at this time. Please try again later" and that's it. Since the Google Voice integration with Sprint I have noticed that no matter who you are calling you must dial 1, then the area code, then the # even if it is a local call.

Txt messaging after flashing

OK I just flashed ComRom 2.0 and i started noticing that My txt were not sending. So I did the *228 option 2 then they all send . Is this normal after flashing a new rom?
Anyone Know why this might happen?
I have no idea but I've had the same problem and found no causes... the only thing that fixes it for me is a reboot or a rewipe/reflash, problem with my fascinate is the txting stops working every week or so.. haven't found any perm. fixes or reasons why it does that

bsannes: Yes, that's normal, and it's always a good idea to do that after flashing a ROM. *228 option 2 (or *22891 to skip the prompt) updates your Preferred Roaming List, or PRL, which essentially tells your phone which towers it should connect to.
It's an even better idea to do *228 option 1 instead (or *22890 to skip the prompt) -- that programs the MDN, MIN and Home SIN as well as updating the PRL. You don't need to do option 2 if you do option 1, mind you, as it covers both.
Note that you won't always (or even most of the time) necessarily have problems if you don't perform the above after a ROM flash, but I can tell you from personal experience that if you dont/forget to there is a definite chance you'll have missing or disappearing texts or calls.
Anoninja: What you described is decidedly not normal -- if it were a programming issue I think texting should either work or not -- though I'd still suggest doing a *22890 and seeing if it fixes your problem.

I've tried and nothing fixes it.. MMS will work fine at the same time though but SMS stops working, I've just come to the conclusion that I have a defective phone or I messed something up in my early days of rooting/flashing

Great thank you for the replies just wanted to make sure I didn't bork something up lol but the phone has been doing good since I *228.
Thanks again for the answer

[Q] Can no longer receive calls!!! *resolved*

Seems that all of a sudden I can no longer receive calls. I thought it was just certain people since I had received calls before but now the people who were successful in the past can't get through any more. It's either just dead or says call not allowed from this device or those beeps you get when the recording says "if you'd like to make a call...".
I'm wondering if I inadvertently did something to cause this. I'm totally new to smartphones, android and sense. I've gone through settings that I know I went into and I can't find anything. I rebooted phone, leaving it off for a few minutes, still no incoming calls. I can call out though, even before reboot. Have not done any temp rooting since I'm still reading up on all that stuff and don't have a grasp on it yet.
I did install some apps but this seems to have started without connection to that although I can't be certain. I can gather a list of them if needed.
I'm thinking of doing a factory reset. I've backed up all the pics and videos I took over thanksgiving to my computer and I believe there's only one app that wasn't free that I got from the Amazon app store. Will all my contacts stay if I do a factory reset? I still have my old phone so I suppose I could get Verizon to transfer them over again, or maybe I can get them off my car since I just put them on there.
Oh!!! Would it have anything to do with me having set it up to use in my car? I was sending out music via bluetooth so I had to set it up as a "portable player" in my car. Maybe I changed something in the phone... I can't really remember and I'm not finding any settings in the music app or in the main settings.
Anybody know if there's something I might have done? Am I safe to do a factory reset?
Edit: One other thing I did to the phone was add a "Music" folder on the external sd and put in a bunch of music. I couldn't find how to do this in the manual or via google so I just hooked it up to my computer and tried that and it worked as far as listening to music. Doubt it would affect phone but wanted to be complete in this post.
Installing apps and making music folders should in no way affect your ability to receive phone calls. Sounds like you need to call Verizon.

Agreed, before you go resetting anything call *611 from your handset or whatever Verizon's 800 number is and see if they screwed something up(more than likely)

Yeah, I called earlier but I don't have another phone to call from so I'll have to go down there. I made her promise they would compensate me for my time since I complained about switching from AT&T and having problems already.
Hahahaha.... I inadvertently turned on call forwarding and it was forwarding to number 9. I know exactly how I accidentally did it too. I was clearing out my old AT&T contacts which had come over and they all start with *. I wanted to be certain they were not Verizon numbers so I dialed each one first and one of them activated the forwarding. I didn't seem to get any notification of it being turned on that I noticed.
Needless to say I thanked the guy at Verizon for finding out what it was and did NOT ask for any compensation.
Glad you got it all figured out I would have been in panic mode!
I almost did that when he started talking about me having to return it to Amazon for a replacement. I immediately started thinking no! I have red buttons! My phone doesn't overheat or reboot on its own! What if I get a bad one. Plus they're on backorder there! I need a phone, my old one is AT&T!! LOL.

Need help with google voice..

Pardon my french, but what kind of bull**** is this? Does anyone know how to fix this?

this isnt a google voice problem and did you "disable" it or "unintegrate" it?
Step 1 - Set your mom's voicemail back to Carrier (If Sprint, the code is her 10 digit phone number).
Step 2 - Go to Settings -> Update profile and allow it to reload her profile.
Step 3 - Restart her phone.
If this fails, you should call *2 and request that a reset be sent to the phone.
I went from a 3.5 rom to a 3.0 because sprint wanted me to access the "system update" screen. When i first booted, before i added a google account, i was able to call her. Added her google account, then i couldnt call her. Seems like a google problem to me. What im thinking of doing is taking her blackberry to sprint and having the numbers put into a dif google account.
Call Sprint to reprovision your phone.

I would try first what this member is suggesting, there are codes availabe to disable GV voice mail, I believe is *72 or something, you can go to the GV help in the website for more info.
Now, if after unlinking the account to GV you still get the same reaction then go to sprint for help.
Question does your mother and you have different carries, e.g.: Sprint & Verizon?

Text SMS

I'm having this weird issue it seems every weekend now, for some reason my SMS do not send using the stock SMS or a 3rd party app. However I can send and receive my SMS through Google Voice? I called *2 and it run those serious of test but the Voice test connection usually fails. I then hit PRL Update and it supposedly updates my PRL but still have a failed Voice test. After repeatedly doing this sometimes it will pass the Voice & Data test and then all these text that I did not receiev through my stock SMS or 3rd party app will all start coming in rapidly. Anyone else have this issue? Yes, I'm rooted and it has happened on all my ROMS that I have used. Thanks
Sprint is adding the Network Vision update to their towers. I have had the same issues in the past. I fixed it by a complete wipe, unroot, stock Rom, called Sprint went through the usual bs, and it worked.
You're saying i need to go back to Stock?
That's what helped with mine. Wish you didn't have to. Full wipe, stock Rom, unroot. Best bet for sms to work. It could be a bug in sprints network, I would wait to unroot and wipe. But its up to you. Just a question when you spoke with Sprint, were you rooted and ROMed?
It's weird cause I still can get SMS through Google Voice though?
That's through Sprint-Google Voices servers-Phone. That means you most likely will have to put to stock.
I'm stock now and on my second EVOLTE and both phones had this issue. My current stock EVOLTE still has this issue.

I'm on charmeleon Rom v.5.0.0 without any issues. Maybe both of you flash that, and tell me if its fixed. It could be a radio issue, which the Rom does address.
I did use Charmeleon ROM and had this issue! The issue comes and goes very inconsistent. Since around approximately 9/10p the issue has stopped.

Could be a sense issue, perhaps an ota will solve the issue. Sorry for your troubles. I know HTC Sense does have a "bug" (they say its a "feature" but its not.) That you're radios become weaker at 7pm-7am to conserve battery.
I think it is a sprint issue. For example when i use the stock or 3rd party SMS, in some areas of the city I won't get text all, but when I enter another area I will get all my text at once. Then they start to repeat themselves at least 3 or 4 times throughout the day. It sucks.

Agreed. I'm actually starting to have problems with 3G and the network. It's a sprint problem, sorry if I caused any inconvenience to either of you! It was well worth a try!
No issue or hard feelings NP, this forum is all about helping others. I know you where just trying to help out and I appreciate your responding! It's funny cause I'm having this SMS issue now. LOL I've never experienced any network issues with Sprint until now! For now I guess I'll just have to use GV as my SMS app of choice, although you can't send or receive MMS through GV.
Are you both using GV right now? I just installed it back on and had the issue. Didn't occur to me at the time. I will try unpairing my GV number and my number and see if it helps.
I also use GV. I wouldn't mind, but GV is really ugly and limited.

Can't Send MMS But Can Receive

Been waiting on AT&T to get back to me, having opened a tech ticket (On Sunday) to resolve issue. I can receive MMS messages, but I can't send one. Regular SMS not a problem. Have no issue with my Data connection. Reviewing the logcat file, I see a HTTP 502 error bad gateway showing up when the error occurs. So I am wondering if this is an issue with the HTC Phone on AT&T Network.
I have tried using different APNs, but that doesn't have any effect. I then decided to try a different ROM from Stock, and installed Venom latest. That had no effect.
So anyone else having an issue with sending MMS on AT&T with the M9?

Ruu and start over. Something has happened somewhere. I can't think of anything but a setting that would cause that. I would only backup your photos etc, i would not restore back to your current setup. Use ruu.exe or sdcard method, not fastboot method.

I'm going to wait for AT&T I think it's an error on their end. Supposed to hear by Friday.
I have had that exact problem with a different device before and it was an issue on the network side, not the device. They had to do some reprovisioning with line and that fixed it up. It is ridiculous that they are making wait so long when it is such an easy fix. Have you tried sending an MMS to yourself? Sometimes this helps with the provisioning.

Yes I have tried that, and sometimes it works but mostly doesn't. Supposed to hear back today.
AT&T never got back to me, so I had to call them. The girl I was working with seems to think it's the SIM card. That doesn't make sense to me, because if it works with the Interwebs, Facebook, Instagram, and I can recieve MMS, then I would think it's not the SIM card, whatever. Am going to test it the SIM card on my S4 to see if that makes a difference (Don't think it will.)
The people that answer the phone when you call are the first level of support. They know very little when it comes to technical support. If turns out not to be the sim card, calk back and ask them to pass you on to the next level of support.

I agree, the person I spoke with last Sunday elevated me to a next level tech who was still unable to figure it out. After trying a new sim card which still didn't work, I did a data reset from settings. It fixed the problem, and I still had root
