Anyone else seeing this so far? The connection says it's strong with 59mb connection but downloads from the store run roughly 8kbps and don't even think about watching netflix or streaming music. I'm on an N router with WPA2 psk encryption. i'm going to tinker with the different encryption options and see if no encryption changes my results but i'm not optimistic about that. thanks for any help.
zero security = no change in speeds.
I noticed some intermittent connectivity issues -- signal strength went down to nothing, then full again. I was sitting only about 8 feet away from my 2Wire g-router.
Mine works great try reflashing if that doesn't fix it doctor your web os part then reflash I was having issues and it fixed mine
It's normal and a known issue.
Encryption doesn't matter, had problems on open wifi and wpa2-psk wifi, had problems with 5ghz wifi as well. It worked, then it didn't. Wifi settings froze the TP.
Boot into webos and everything works fine.
Mine is super fast, usually 1,5-2MB/s on Android market. I don't use any encryptions, but MAC filter
I really haven't had any wifi issues, Definitely haven't noticed a decrease in speed. The only problem I've had is swapping from one network to the next, It will cycle between connecting and searching. If I just turn off wifi and turn it back on it will connect fine.

Try changing your channel: http://androidforums.com/hp-touchpad/429699-wifi-channel-optimizing.html
Every once in awhile after the pad has been sleeping, upon wake i have to toggle Wifi off then on...then it continues working as usual.
Other than that, has been normal operating speed for me.

So I know wifi in android is buggy, this isn't a question about that.
My Touchpad won't connect to my wireless network at work. (in webOS or android) It always fails the IP configuration part. My android phone connects fine, and my laptop, and my iPad.
Kind of kills the usefulness of the tablet for me. Wondering if I should call up HP before my 90days are up.
Thanks in advance
I have had no issues with webOS 3.0.2 or 3.0.4 at work or home (and I run a number of access points at both locations). Always connects by itself everytime. Too early to tell with 3.0.5 but no issues so far.
Have you tried other routers? It could be just some issue with your router. Have you tried to manually assign an IP, I know you can in android.

It connects to my home network fine, just not the work one. Tried manually assigning an IP and that didn't work in either OS. Going to install the update to webOS and see if that fixes things.
As poster above mentioned, corporate/work networks seem to be the only thing that webOS MIGHT not play well with occasionally. I've gotten it to successfully connect to my work's 802.1x EAP network. It actually worked quite well, but then sometimes it stumbles a bit before connecting.
For the most part though, webOS wifi works just fine. Of course, this is because HP dev'd it with the drivers they have, that we DONT have, and most likely will never have.
Wifi now connects on both OS's after updating webOS to 3.05
Lol go figure

It hasn't before for you? I'm curious about your experience.
The deal with Wifi in android is multi-faceted:
1. Accessing the wifi options sometimes crashes the thing, and you have to force close the settings app and try again.
2. With Wifi on, the wifi menu can be quite sluggish
3. A lot of times, it wont even scan for networks. It just says disconnected for ages, or will eventually scan, then try to connect, but never get past "Acquiring IP address".
4. A lot of times it will randomly lose its connection, yet still indicate that it's connected just fine. A toggling of the wifi usually fixes this, but also starts you at square 1 with attempting to connect to an AP. For some people, this process can be a nightmare.
5. Some people simply cannot connected to their secured network at all. Period.
Are you experiencing any of these issues still?

Before update:
never had any problems with wifi at all, except it just wouldn't connect to either of my two networks at work in either OS. Neither OS could get past the IP config stage. Tried manually assigning IPs in both OS's but that accomplished nothing. Home 5ghz network zero issues.
After update:
Instant connection, no issues.
When i downloading torrents using my android phone over the WiFi, its connection lost several times. My phone WiFi policy is "Keep WI-Fi on during sleep" as "Always". I use "Ttorrent" app client. Most of the time Ttorrent display "No suitable network" error. If i turn on the screen, problem not fix.
I have android 4.0.3 ROM and i connected my phone into my ADSL router, not a public.
Are there any solution for me?
Thanks!
Did you rule out the signal strength and wifi network quality? It might just be that the connection is flaky. One way to test is just sitting close to the access point or.. to change it to a different channel (when you suspect interference from neighbor routers is the issue)

Thanks friend your reply!
If I move my phone close to the router, its not fix. Also its possible affect, my neighbors Wi-Fi connections (because of the distance of neighbor houses, to my place). Is it a effect of my router settings?

Is there an option in your client to lower the maximum number of connections? That's a recommendation from the developers of adownloader, which is what I use
I am having the same problem.
I've tried so many things, on the phone and router.
Nothing has solved it.
I've adjusted a lot of settings on the router which have made no difference, I've used different types of security, wep, wpa, wpa2, no security at all. Static ip, changed dhcp lease times etc
On the phone I've tried setting a static ip, flashing different kernels, using different torrent clients, lowering number of global connections to 1 etc
I've also tried a few apps from the play store, wifi fix, wifi static etc
The wifi will just randomly disconnect when I download any torrent, there is no pattern to it but I can't download any torrent without disconnecting.
I would love to know a fix.
I'm using a galaxy s3
One thing I want to try is a different router to rule out whether the problem is the router side or the phone side.
At the minute I have no idea what is causing the issue.
I don't get disconnected when browsing the web etc on my phone.
If I use my pc or laptop to download torrents I don't get disconneted.
Ok I've finally worked out why I was getting drop outs.
For some reason when I use wpa2 with aes ecryption I get disconnected when downloading torrents.
When I use wpa and tkip I get no disconnects at all.
It's not a good solution as I get slower speeds using wpa and tkip but at least I don't get disconnected.
I wonder if this will be fixed?
This is an ICS bug. No matter what you have your wi-fi sleep policy set to, when the screen goes off the performance drops drastically. Download the Wi-Fi High Performance Widget from the market. When tap to enable the widget, your wi-fi will run at 100% performance no matter your screen state.
This isn't a sleep issue though. I have wifi set to always on keep wifi on during sleep.
Even the op said he tried leaving the screen on.
I set screen timeout to 10 minutes so I can monitor the application and also set screen on within adownloader and I get disconnected.
The only fix for me is using wpa and tkip encryption.
As soon as I use wpa2 and aes encryption I get disconnections when downloading.

Well, probably a hardware issue. I have no issues using the same wifi configuration and downloading torrents. And like I said..it really doesn't matter if you have keep wi-fi on during sleep checked. That doesn't matter at all. The performance will degrade so much when the phone is asleep that you might as well have it turned off. No, your wi-fi won't sleep, but it won't be running anywhere near its top performance, which is what the widget is for.
Wow. I have been trying to solve the same problem for last 2 weeks. upgraded windows drivers, router firmware, tweaked utorrent settings and whatnot. finally after reading your answer i changed my wifi authentication from wpa2+aes to wpa+TKIP and WOW. it worked. my wifi is not dropping anymore. I dont why WPA2+AES should cause this problem. BUt this tweak in authentication has finally worked for me.
I'm having an odd wifi issue.
So far I've only seen it happen at home with my billion router.
The S3 connects to the wifi fine, but maybe after 30min it seems it losing packets. The internet is really slow on the phone but fine on everything else. Web pages don't load and other apps struggle because of the lack of internet but its still connected with full wifi strength. I disconnect the wifi and reconnect and everything is fine again.
Woke up this morning and the same thing happened, so I had to reset the wifi on the phone.
I've tried channel wifi channels.
I'm using WPA2
Any suggestions?
My wifi connection often wrong, always in after a period of using, have no access to the Internet. Every time the wifi turned off to open another can get to the Internet, can wifi signal is always full. I searched a lot of method to did not solve, including XDA * # # 0011 turn off on wifi power save mode, when problem solving, but after a while just the same. And with only G mode and so on route, are not solutions. Change a lot of Rom, the kernel baseband all not line.Who's a way to solve?
I am not sure if this is the case but - have you tried different router? My S3 for example has issues when I go to my friend's house (he has some old/er Belkin router). However, when I am home wifi is blazing fast and no issues what so ever (cisco e3000).
my phone has a slight different problem, the phone detects strong signal for all my wifi, but will only save it, and not connect right away, some will not even connect, and sometime the speed is very slow.

I am sure there is no porblem with the router,SGS2 and IP4s with the same router is fine.
I'm getting WIFI problems when waking from deep sleep. My settings are set to keep WIFI on when sleeping only when plugged in, as i find this extends my battery life a little more.
Sometimes it reconnects when waking up, and other times it doesn't and i have to turn WIFI off and then on again to force it to scan and reconnect. If i don't do this and check WIFI, it says it's scanning, but never finds or connects to a network.
Anyone else get this?! I read somewhere about sleep of death on GS2?
There is a known problem with the wifi, I have just changed my phone and so far evrything is working.
been through 9-10 phone with different problems.
Ok, i've tried turning off WIFI power save in the system settings *#0011#
I'll report back with my findings in terms of waking from sleep and possible additional battery drain...
Turning off powersave didn't help on my speeds tho. My SGS2 can pull around 5-600KBs a second, while my SGS3 only pulls roughly half despite being at the roughly same location (ie laying next to each other)
Having problems with Wifi streaming and YouTube very slow, stop and start every few seconds, got to be the phone as all my other devices stream fine. I have unchecked avoid poor connections in wifi advanced.
Any one else having this problem, will try factory reset.

I've seen factory resets cure a few problems on here so try that 1st but isn't there a .69 firmware available now as well, maybe try that to?

Good old factory reset and it's working fine.....hasn't. Worked
EDIT.......wifi speeds are slow again, can't watch YouTube or stream films, it's only on this device, ipad 2, galaxy s3 and s2 all stream with no problems.
Can't download the 6 free promo films either as download fails after a short while.

My facebook app is not working great in my phone. Youtube has been fine so far but I find my internet quite slow at home as I have rubbish internet speed. Also in peak times I get very slow internet connection.
Wifi speed still slow, only on this device,
Also is the . 69 firmware carrier specific?
No firmware update prompt on my phone.
no option for 5GHz in wifi advanced menu

A couple of things to try:
* test with other access points
* restarting the router
* disconnecting other devices
* forgetting the network on the z2 and readding it
I actually got great wifi speeds with my z2. It was even able to max out a 100 Mbps cable broadband connection on an AC router. Worked fine in n-mode also.

Have you tested on any other networks?
Take a trip to Starbucks! See if you get any better speeds there (and a nice latte, damn I'd kill for one right now).
glas to see im not the only one. Google Play Store @ 0.02mb/s
What kind of router do you have and how far is it? I'm able to maintain 2-3MB/s (16-24Mbit/s) over a distance of 20 feet with walls and everything in between.
After getting my phone last Tuesday ive noticed this little bug as well, sometimes downloading/updating google play apps it'll be like 0.5MB/sec but usually when I use drop down menu and quick settings and turn off wifi(give it about 10/20secs) then reactivate it im back to around 8-14Mb/sec, some apps dont even show a download progress its that fast lol.
I believe it might be a 5Ghz wifi problem as my BT hub shows my phone connecting to 5GHz channel with no way to stop it apart from turning 5Ghz off at the router :/
So hopefully sony will either fix bug or give us more wifi options like already mentioned so we can make phone connect to what we want.
K stand corrected phone can/does switch between 2.4Ghz/5Ghz, router shows phone connected at 2.4Ghz now. Just updated an app while connected on 2.4Ghz and no problem.
Z2 D6503 Wifi dropping issues
I seem to be getting the same sort of wifi issues as previously stated. I cannot hold a wifi connection on the 2.4ghz band fro more than 20s before its dissociated (ie i still have full connection to the router (3 bars) but cannot get through to the internet). This happens no matter what router i am connected to, whether its at home or at work.
I have tried:
Setting the Wifi optimization checkbox off. No difference
Avoid poor connections is off. No difference.
Stamina mode is off. No difference.
Keep Wifi on during sleep is set to Always. No difference.
Sleep timeout to 30mins. No difference.
I have factory reset the phone. No difference.
I have also check to see if it is my router at home. I have switched between every channel available which made no difference. Security is Wpa/Wpa2 PSK AES which makes no difference. I only have the 2.4ghz available on that router at home (same at work).
My Note 3 and HTC One connect to both routers with no problems at all and do not drop out. Same goes with Sony Vaio Laptop.
I have installed Wifi Fixer on my Z2 to see if it can alleviate the problem and it does somewhat. instead of manually having to turn on and off the wifi toggle to reestablish a connection, the Wifi Fixer does it for me.Approx. every 20-30s in its log it will show the phone "dissociating" from the router, and the the app tries to "reassociate" the connection.
I can connect through wifi transfer to my Note 3 without issue, and the same goes for my TV, so it cant be a hardware fault, as the connection is still excellent strength for both (as well as the router, tested with Wifi Analyzer). This is a very frustrating problem as it makes watching youtube movies impossible, and hotspotting, skype calls, etc.....
And dont even get me started on the bluetooth dropouts. I am disconnected from a bluetooth connection every 66-70s without fail no matter what i try. No issues with my Note 3 and HTC One in the exact same conditions. It will disconnect then reconnect straight away with a delay of about 3 seconds, which makes calls and listening to music a VERY unpleasant experience.
Any ideas on how to fix this? I love everything else on this phone but this wifi/bluetooth connection issue is making it unusable.
connecting to my bt home hub 4 via 5GHz band only has solved my wifi drop out problems.

For me slow Wifi resulted in many issues, You-tube video cannot be played, video streaming from a network storage cannot be done, Facebook videos will stop at the middle etc where the most evident issues. I tried everything possible to resolve this issues and searching the internet also didn't help. Finally decided to fresh install, used PC companion and re-installed the complete software, then restored all apps using google backup service. After this there is no issue till now. The software version is the same I had before reinstall. But now the Video streaming and apps using internet become very responsive.
thanks
